  1. Well Beckham was one of the higher picks the Sox have had. Sale was a player that fell and the Sox decided to go after. In seasons past theyve taken a much more conservative approach or havent had a shot at the big time players due to draft position. I just want a team that has a chance. If the Sox come back as is, 100% healthy they have a chance.
  2. It shouldnt happen, but there it looks like Toon may not play which could really hurt the pass game. Wisconsin has made a few dumb plays each game, which have made the end score look closer than it was. They also have been using Clay less to ease him back from ankle surgery and to limit his carries before the Big 10. Its hard to tell what ASU will bring because theyve played 2 FCS opponents. There is always a possibility that the more talented team lays an egg and something bad happens. If Wisconsin can control the line of scrimmage on offense, they should be able to control the tempo of the game. If Borland comes back on defense they should play a lot better than last week. I hate to be overly confident because Ive just seen to many bad things happen. On the other topic, just depends on how you define favorite. I dont really respect sports media personalities when it comes to picking games because they generally have bias. Michigan is one of those teams people generally love or hate, and its easy to try and pile on them when theyve been down.
  3. I dont like the idea of rebuilding. Sox had a chance, it didnt work out. You go back to the drawing board and come back better.
  4. I understand how betting works. Vegas wants to make sure that they get 50% on each side so that they get their take and always win. If bookies make bad lines they dont get action. If an "expert" makes a bad pick no one cares the next week. But in general Bookie lines are far better than "expert" picks.
  5. Bookies know more about sports than "experts". Bookies have accountability, "experts" dont. As for the Michigan controversy, they are obviously better than their previous teams. But I think they at best are going to end up 5th in the Big 10, possibly worse.
  6. What teams exactly average more than 87/88 wins every year? The Sox spend a good amount of money. They wont be the Yankees until they sell more tickets and charge you for a pay per view Sox channel. As for the ridiculous Wirtz comment previously. Before Bill Wirtz died in 2007 Blackhawks were rated as one of the worst hockey franchises less than 3 years after his death Hawks win Stanley Cup. Here is an article after the 2006 season. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...0417_blackhawks So yeah this thread is ridiculous.
  7. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) Not spending money on the team isn't giving up. It's investing wisely, and not throwing your money away.... If Chicago fans understood this, we might not go 50-100 years between championships. One could make an argument that the biggest reason the Cubs have sucked for years and years on end, is the fact that Wrigley is filled, win or lose. Same with the Bears and Soldier Field. Honestly, the only Chicago fans that "get it" are Blackhawks fans and Sox fans. The team sucks, and makes no efforts to get better, and you stop spending your hard earned money on them. It is common sense. Why should I pay for an inferior product? WINNING is the best marketing strategy you have as a sports franchise, so it's in your best interests to win. This post left me speechless. Okay it left me with so many words I dont even know where to start. If Chicago fans understood what? Chicago is the only city to have a Championship in every major sport in the last 25 years. So what exactly do other cities understand more than Chicago? What does NY understand? What does LA understand? You act like fans not showing to games will make the White Sox a better team. It wont. So you can say the Sox should throw everything away and not support a team who has brought in Jake Peavy, Alex Rios and Edwin Jackson in 3 seasons, or you can realize that all you can ask for is that the management puts together a competitive team and does what it can to win. The comment that Blackhawk fans some how had an impact on the change of the franchise shows that you just are throwing things out there. Im not the biggest or most knowledgeable Hawks fan, but Im pretty sure that the Hawks sucked until Mr. Bill Wirtz passed away. Then when new management took over they completely changed the franchise and turned it from one of the worst rated to one of the best. Im pretty sure that had Mr. Bill Wirtz not died the Blackhawks would be in the exact same position. As for Sox fans getting it. The Sox won in 2005. It wasnt ater they had some sort of fan strike where fans didnt show up. That was after 1994 when the strike happened and the Sox had one of the best young teams in the majors. Due to the Sox going from one of the top attendance teams (Sox prior to 1995 outdrew the Cubs every year that New Comiskey was opened) to one of the lower, attendance dropped from 32k to 22k, the Sox would not return to the playoffs until 2000. So thats why I dont believe a word of that post
  8. Would you be happy with making the playoffs and losing ever year? How do you value success, if winning is all that matters then shouldnt it mean nothing if you aint got no ring? Sox spend to win. I will support them as long as they try to win. For most of my life they tried way less and I supported them, why am I going to go give up now?
  9. When were the sox good at drafting, developing and promoting? Theyve had some good years and some bad years, but not exactly known for building a home grown team. 2005 roster 1B Konerko- Trade, 2B Iguchi- fa, 3B Crede- drafted, SS Uribe- Trade, C AJ- FA. RF- Pods- Trade, CF- Rowand- drafted, LF- Dye- free agent, DH Thomas- drafted SP Buerhle- drafted, SP- Freddy-trade, SP- Garland- trade, SP- Contreras- trade, SP El Duke- fa In the pen they had Cotts who they drafted. I think the Sox need to add some hitting and they are fine. They have one of the best returning staffs next year. s*** happens you move on. (edit put AJ as trade because I was thinking of the Liriano deal)
  10. Single and ready to mingle? Thanks for making me feel young again
  11. I understand why people are against it. I just believe that America is about religious freedom, and they all deserve the same respect.
  12. If the Sox can sweep the Twins they are far from done. Its a big if, but if they deserve to be in the playoffs its something they have to do.
  13. Kap, What would be my bias? Im neither Democrat nor Republican. I hate political parties. So what would be my bias?
  14. Really the use of "only" makes it impossible to prove. Im sure I can find numerous occasions where the "left" has supported freedom for numerous other undesirables. The reason why "liberals" protect the rights of those who others may deem unworthy of protection, is because it is the worst who we most often bend the rules for. Why? Because its easy to bend the rules if it hurts a mass murderer or terrorist, people just go along with it, they dont question. Its hard to defend those who may not deserve defending. But that is what makes me a "liberal", I am willing to defend the rights of those who most would deem unworthy, or those who do not have the capacity to defend themselves.
  15. Might be tacky for lawyers to call themselves Dr's but as you stated "its technically true." Not to mention the reason why you dont call lawyers "Doctors" mainly comes from the fact that in some countries/states you dont need to go to law school to become a licensed attorney. But if you have successfully been given a "juris doctor" you are in fact holding a doctorate.
  16. Yeah but he stops about half way to recheck where the ball was because it looked for a moment to be caught. As soon as he determined it absolutely was going to fall he began to run.
  17. The ball hung up, he could have gotten back to 2nd if it was caught. For a second it looked like the CF might get it and he had to play it safe because you cant get doubled off to end the inning there.
  18. Need to play good baseball and score the guy from 2nd.
  19. Unless there is another angle that ball is pretty far foul, even Inge could see it.
  20. Damnit Beckham you gotta realize thats Cabrera running and you can roll it to first as long its on target.
  21. My guess is that they hoped Edwin could get through Cabrera but probably should pull him
  22. Jackson hasnt pitched his best game, but Sox need to score more runs for him. Our starting staff cant keep the other team under 3 runs every game.
  23. Id describe Kotsay's hit as a sinking line drive. It wasn't a hard hit ball but it wasnt a pop up. Could have easily fallen. (Edit) He kind of flipped it into left field, you could call it a blooper but it didnt really get that high off the ground.
  24. Ozzie left him in for 1 to many batters. Thats the problem when you have no faith in the pen.
