  1. If youre referring to my post, then youre missing the point of the statement. (That 2 months ago people wanted to give up on the team) The point was that you should enjoy the ride because 2 months ago this was a lost season. So instead of focusing on how badly everything might go, why not focus on how great everything went to get here? We could easily be watching a team that was 10+ games out like the Tigers. Instead we have a team with a chance. If you asked me before the season if Id take being .5 game up in August, Id have said yes. Would it be great to be up 10 games and coasting? Sure, but I dont see how you can look at this team and believe that to be a realistic scenario. This year is going to come down to the wire, you just have to hope that the White Sox have 1 more win at the end of the season. That is all that matters. There is nothing wrong with being critical, but giving up in a game thread when its 1-0, or proclaiming the game over etc., is not being critical. You can strawman my post all you want, but the point was, being negative for the sake of negativity doesnt make teams win, it doesnt make teams lose, it just creates a bad environment that people dont want to deal with. Sorry if that offends anyone.
  2. I agree and there is a reason why I dont post in game threads (or even on the Pale Hose Forum for the most part). I guess I just wish things were different. There was a time when game threads and the message boards were positive. Before 2005 most Sox fans just wanted to be competitive and make the playoffs. I never really imagined that the White Sox would win a World Series, especially when i watched the best Sox team get knocked out by the Blue Jays and then saw the Sox miss any chance to the strike. For all the negativity, for all the people who said that this team had no chance, that we should trade off all the vets for prospects, that we should rebuild, this team is in first place with 2 months to go. This team is not built on offense, its built on pitching. So you have to expect a lot of games where the Sox only score 3 runs or less. But thats the way that the Sox were built. And it may not have been the best decision coming into the season, but that is where we are. So whats the point of b****ing about Kotsay or Thome or any of that? It wont change, its not even like the girlfriend who left that you may get back, Thome wont be back this year, we couldnt even call him if we wanted. Maybe its because I woke up early to watch the game and it put me in an unusually ornery mood. For the most part I just stopped caring about how the board has been overtaken by negativity. But every once in a while, I just cant take it. But that is who I am as a fan. I dont leave until the final out and I dont give up until the Sox have been statistically eliminated. I just dont see what being constantly negative does, except for bring everyone else down too.
  3. Lostfan, I respect you as a poster, but I really dont care what you think at this point. If some one attacks me and says that "They care more than me" Im going to point out how ridiculous of a statement it is. /shrugs
  4. Where did I say anything about who cares more? I merely pointed out that your argument was in fact the dumbest argument Ive seen on this board. I dont care who you are, how many games youve watched. Ive read 99% of your posts, they are for the most part self serving and trying to show the rest of us how much you know about baseball using metrics. Unfortunately I could train a monkey to read statistics and then make after the fact arguments about a player. But I dont care, lol. Thats why I went to 10-20 games the first 2 months of the season when the Sox were drawing less than 25k. How many did you go to?
  5. A lot of people consider Mantle the fastest player down first base (when he was batting lefty). He got injured early in his career.
  6. I dont care as much as you? That will be 8 years Ive spent on this site. Thats 4x the amount of time youve spent on this site. And my guess is that Ive been spending "3 hours" watching the Sox daily before you were born. Last I checked it takes the same amount of energy to be optimistic and pessimistic. So Id rather hope for the best, then constantly b****ing about the worst. But to argue I care less than you, is one of the dumbest comments Ive ever seen on this site. And I was around when Brandofan posted. (Not that you knew who that was because you werent even here "caring" about the Sox)
  7. I think the Sox have a much better pitching staff than the Twins. And who cares how many runs they score the last X games as long as they are winning 2/3 of them? The Sox have built a team on pitching, if you dont enjoy pitching, youre not going to enjoy this team. They arent going to score the most runs like the 2000 White Sox. But then again, how far did the 2000 Sox go in the playoffs with that rotation? It wasnt so long ago that White Sox fans would have killed to just have a competitive team.
  8. It just gets really old. There is no going back in time and changing the decision, so you might as well either: Today the DH is Konerko, so where is the beef about the "rotating DH". I just have never seen a group of people who are so damn pessimistic. I generally dont even read these threads because I just cant stand the negativity. If you dont believe the Sox can win this game and take the division, then what is the point of being a fan? I cant see how Id enjoy complaining about my favorite team every day. They have problems, they arent perfect, but their my damn team and Im going to hope they win even if they had 9 Omar's out there.
  9. Do you guys ever get tired of being negative? Basically unbearable to read these threads every day. Its 1 damn run in the 4th inning. You think Twins fans were jumping off a ledge down 4 to the Tribe and potentially losing 2 out of the last 3 from them?
  10. It was an exaggeration to mean that I havent seen Pena use it in that situation before. Im surprised to see that hes at 19% change up, prior to this season he was historically at 10%. Which means that in most outings he would throw maybe 1. Its just not a pitch you usually see on 3-2 with the bases loaded. But now he just threw another one so maybe they realized its working
  11. Stone confirms change up. Im not sure Ive ever seen Pena use that pitch before. What a ballsy f***ing pitch on 3-2 with the bases loaded.
  12. That looked like some sort of change up? Whatever it was, Patterson loves to strike out.
  13. Well an 0-2 pitch is where you want to throw a ball. The good news is his fastball looks good, but you gotta give him a chance to succeed.
  14. I really was hoping that Sale would only be used in a game where the Sox were already losing. I hope for the best and maybe he just needs to calm down, but this is a damn hard position to put a guy in.
  15. Well Pierre is going to be running on one of the first 3 pitches.
  16. Way behind on those pitches. Hopefully they are working with Tank on shortening up his swing in certain situations.
  17. I thought this was a college sports site. Im confused.
  18. Lilly isnt on the bench so he couldnt pinch run. Best option would have been Rios, but Alexei needs to get the job done and not put Kotsay in that position regardless.
  19. Kotsay got a bad jump, but with AJ up next i think the risk was worth it because 90% of his at bats seem to be pop ups. Kotsay probably didnt want to get hit by a thrown bat by AJ.
