I could see guys like Mike Caldwell (Jets) and Chris Hewitt (Ravens) get interviews. -

Right about what exactly? So far the best anyone can argue is that 1 time the Bears paid 1 coordinator as "one of the highest." How in anyway does that prove that the Bears usually pay a lot for coaches? Ill hang up and listen. (edit) I mean really this is one of the most inane arguments Ive ever had. My comment was about why may sign with TB. The phrase included "usually" which does not mean "always". Im not sure why that comment was so bad. TB is obviously paying Arians a lot of money, they are most likely going to pay Bowles a lot of money. I cant recall the Bears winning a lot of bidding wars for coaches (again maybe Im wrong and people can provide evidence.) The entire point of the post was that Bowles to Bears is not guaranteed, and I was shocked that so many people were acting like Bowles had to come here. -

We have no idea if that is true. Bowles could be just saying that because it turned out that AZ paid him a lot more money and it makes him seem like a good guy to the TB fans. Regardless the Bears didnt get him. -

Strangest thing was that Nagy's dad had been Bowles HS coach. So the Bears actually had a pretty big connection. -

Money. I could also see Arians giving him a co-HC title. -

You guys Bowles is going to the Bears because all of these posters are right and the Bears will pay him! Dont listen to me. -

It was about paying new coaches. Sorry if that wasnt clear. Thought the context of "TB offering more money" was clear it was about coaches. -

What that the Bears dont pay the most for coaches? Nagy, Trestman and Fox made no where near what the top coaches made. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2755442-the-10-highest-paid-coaches-in-the-nfl#slide10 Heres Arians on Bowles today: "He's like a son to me," Arians said of Bowles, whom he offered words of encouragement to after his firing. Arians then offered Bowles the Bucs job. "He thought hard about it. I was doing my best sell job and this happened. We're really excited to be back together." -

Thats different than being the highest paid coach. And so far no one can show a time where the Bears outbid another team for a coach. If Arians really wants Bowles, hes likely to be the highest paid DC. Are the Bears really going to do that? Also the context of the first post was why Bowles would pick TB, which was money. Well see what happens, but TB needs him (probably wants him more) so id bet they offer more money than the Bears are going to. You dont sign Arians if youre going to cheap out on a DC. -

Right so if Fangio had to get an increase to be "one of the higher paid coaches" it means that when they originally signed Fangio, he probably was not "the highest paid DC." We know Trestman Fox, and Nagy were not the "highest paid" coaches. And Im pretty sure that Arians is going to make more than Nagy next year. So why do we think the Bears are going to outbid TB? Maybe they will, but I cant find a single time when the Bears outbid everyone for their new coach. Giving a raise to retain someone is different. -

Where are you getting this information? Assistant salaries arent reported. As for spending a lot of money consistently, from what I can tell Nagy isnt a top 10 paid coach. So do you guys have any actual facts to back up that the Bears are paying coaches more than anyone? Because Im pretty sure Belicheck and Gruden are 1 and 2, possibly making 2x as much as Nagy. -

You guys are all presuming that the Bears are going to offer the same amount of money as TB. Usually the Bears are cheap. -
Madrigal: BA Prospect who could move fast
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The article doesnt make a lot of sense for Madrigal. Its premised on the team wanting to win now. Why would the Sox burn a year of Madrigal this year? No matter what happens they are giving Anderson/Moncada a full season of at bats. It would have to be some sort of bizarro world where the Sox are doing amazing, and Moncada or Anderson is sucking so terribly that the Sox are giving up on them (or traded). -
Its hard to believe that there are people who post on this site who werent even born back when this all began.

I think unfortunately we are living in what one day will be referred to the social media age. Discourse has definitely gone down since Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. Its all about the likes and internet fame. I sound like a dinosaur, but I guess thats what happens when you have spent almost 50% of your life on the same message board. I can still remember my first post, its a damn shame it got wiped in the first extinction. It was so brilliant and terrible at the same time.

Everyone just wants to hear about sauces and leaks. Although I did correctly state earlier that no way White Sox Dave had the actual contract figure and that he was likely just guessing based on widely known information to make it seem like he had sauces. Turns out, high level executives dont leak stuff about hundred million dollar contracts that could alter the face of a franchise. Go figure. But again, that type of commentary doesnt really move the needle. People would rather post about how Machado was seen in NY (even though his instagram showed him in a warm area, which I also pointed out) or see if someone saw Machado in JR's nonexistent Bears box. Video killed the radio star.
-
So exactly what i said hours ago...
-
Theres an argument both ways. Is 10/300 really that much worse than 8/275? Technically you could argue that the last 2 years is a 2/25 so thats not really bad. Id basically give him the option, because either would be fine if I was the Sox.
-
They dont, the guy is just making it up. I said 8/275 yesterday, so I think 8/280 range is definitely possible.
-
Just because he was reliable in the past doesnt mean he knows this information. The Machado negotiation is in a different stratosphere of anything he has broken. Furthermore, he now is doing this full time, so there is pressure to get an audience. After the "Machado is at the Bears game" stunt, I just dont have any reason to trust him or the people on his podcast. Seeing as most people know that JR doesnt have a Bears suite. I could be very wrong, but I just cant imagine that someone actually gave him the exact contract figure. Its also hard to believe that the Sox absolutely know they are the top offer.
-
I really dont trust that he actually knows the offer. I think he is guessing at the offer based on reasonable assumptions so that it looks like he has inside information.
