The "believe me" stuff is overblown. Its a figure of speech, I dont read it literally. If some one has sources great, if they dont, I dont care either. Its all for fun and reputation Same for the steve knock, what he believed made sense, but logic doesnt always win.

DH Gamethread 2: White Sox (60-45) vs Tigers (52-53) 6:05PM CDT

Way to early to scoreboard watch. Sox just need to try and win 2/3 or 3/4 games each series and see how it plays out. -
I really doubt anyone claims Manny. And he doesnt make that much sense in the NL because there is no DH.

Konerko doesnt need to DH, but I guess they want to give him some rest. Sure 1b isnt high impact but DH is less work. -
Im thinking about filing frivolous lawsuits until they hire me. I mean who doesnt want to hire the guy that sued the Sox for starting Mark Kotsay to much? In fact I think I could make a good case for a temporary restraining order against playing Kotsay.

I dont make the line ups. And I probably would have started Vizquel that game at 3b. That being said, its easier to have a defensive liability who has a 1.000+ ops versus a .667 ops (Dayan vs lefties as compared to righties). -

If you look at the line up, Konerko is playing DH. So if you want to sit Konerko in favor of Dayan, that would be an interesting argument. As for Dayan starting at 3b, he hasnt been that great defensively (arguably a liability) and I believe the game Kalapse is referring to the other team was starting a lhp. I want Dayan to get more at bats, I just think that the majority of those at bats should be coming from the DH spot, which is being used by Konerko tonight. -

Im sure people want Dayan. I think with Torres out there you want the best defense possible. -
Just for the sake of conspiracy. If Farve is "retired" for the 1st week or 2 and misses games, I do not believe that would count against his streak of games played in a row. Conversely if Farve was "injured" the streak would snap.
-
Or hes just putting him on waivers in case he does get through and then he can try and negotiate for another 30 days.

If that doesnt peg Jones its a passed ball that probably scores CQ. Crazy inning. -
The fact Kenny wouldnt trade Dayan should say enough about what the Sox feel about him as a player. They are just taking their time with him because I think they believe that he has a chance to be a good player. After Beckham struggled this year, I think they are trying to be more cautious because a lot of the game is mental for young players. First you get Dayan a ton of success against lefties. Then you start having him face tougher right handed pitching.
-
Maybe they are bringing Dayan along slowly so that he can be a big contributor down the stretch? There is more than 1 strategy on how to handle a young player, and not everyone believes you should just throw them in the fire and hope for the best. Ruining Kotsay's confidence isnt a big deal, ruining Dayan's could end his career. So do I want Dayan to play more? Absolutely. Am I going to make a huge deal out of it while the Sox are in 1st place? Absolutely not. Its not how you get there, its how you finish. If Dayan is raking down the stretch, who cares how he got there?

No it doesnt. The Sox very well could have a payroll budget next year that allowed them to add $8mil in salary, but did not allow them to add #$20+ mil in salary. It doesnt ring hollow at all. Dunn at $15mil, is a hell of a lot different than Jackson at $8mil. First of all projections have Jackson at 10mil on open market, not to mention that even at his current productivity he probably would get 3-4mil, meaning that its only a 4-5 mil over pay (next year). This year Dunn would have cost almost that much in 2 months alone, let alone then having to give him over $50-60 mil to sign him long term. Its way easier to pay $8mil one time and extend a budget, than it is for $15mil 4-5xs.
-
Dunn was going to make 15mil + for 4-5 years. Jackson is 8mil for 1 year. Thats a huge difference in terms of payroll.
-
Yeah it seems like if the Yankees hadnt been in the picture Berkman would have gone to the Sox. He even complimented the organization and said that they had to be good because they beat him in 2005. Would have been awesome to get him, but hard to argue with his logic.
-
Would you have even wanted to trade Mitchell for Dunn? It just seems the price was exceptionally high.
-
Not really, but you have to believe the following (which I do) 1) Hudson was a mediocre prospect with limited MLB upside that the Sox sold at almost his peak value. 2) That Jackson has a dynamic arm and just has not been able to put his pure potential with the ability to pitch. That the Sox have seen something that will change this. Jackson would give the Sox 3 pitchers who have pretty good stuff and that is what you will need in the playoffs. And best moves ever was for KW, I guess I could have made that more clear.
-
Jackson's babip has been up this year. The rest of his peripherals have been pretty good. If the White Sox have a reason to believe that he has a problem that can be fixed, this could be one of the best pick ups ever. If they dont really believe that and it was to just flip him, it may be a disaster. Obviously its hard to tell which is true, but I think that the Sox wanted jackson and were hoping to get a hitter as well. The Sox will need a guy with electric stuff, and Jackson could ft the bill.
-
Why do people keep thinking Dayan is getting sent down>? The Sox wouldnt trade him for Dunn, hes on the team. Lilly will be sent down when Teahen returns. Teahen/Vizquell/Kotsay will play the majority of games vs righties, Dayan will play against lefties.

If Rios was putting up HOF numbers hes never on waivers. The entire reason the Sox had a chance at him was because he was underperforming for his contract. If you look at this stats, he had ops + of 120, 122 and then 112, to go with outsstanding defense and good speed on the basepaths. Was there a chance that at 28 he all of a sudden fell off a cliff (+83)? Sure there was a small chance. But absent injury or any explanation as to the fall off, it just seemed like Konerko 2003 all over again. (You can even check my posts at the time which make this comparison over and over again.) I think that Jackson is a far higher risk than Rios, but at the same time Jackson has extreme talent and still has time to develop it. At 26 I wasnt exactly the most determined or focused worker, but some times things just click between 26-28. Ive always liked Jackson's stuff and feel that this may be the wake up call to get him focused. Who knows, but I think that the Sox turned an overhyped prospect into an underachieving young starter. Im fine with that most days of the week.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Well it looked like we got caught with our pants down last year on the Rios thing, and that's worked out well. It appears we got caught with our pants down again on Edwin Jackson, guess we'll have to hope this works out well too. Wait what? You didnt like the Rios deal last year? That was one of the greatest highway robberies ever. Sure Rios had been struggling but not every player can go their whole career with out a bad season or 2.
