  1. http://www.kctv5.com/sports/23860558/detail.html Here is the link to the Texas information. What possibly could have happened is that Texas was a go to the Pac-10 provided that they took all Texas schools. Once Pac-10 took Colorado over Baylor, Texas was free to do what it wanted. The "Tech" problem which was spoken about in the Ohio State email, maybe referred to the fact if Am/Texas went to the Big 10, theyd have to make sure they found a place for Tech in another big time conference.
  2. Big 10 tried (or is trying) to get Texas. (depending on who you believe) Im not sure that Iowa State, Baylor or Colorado are that much superior to Nebraska academics to off set Nebraska's superior brand and reputation. One of those teams fills an 80k+ stadium every year, the other 3 dont. If academics are close, you look for the marquee brand. I guess I dont consider Colorado, Baylor, or ISU as academic schools that "the big 10 would be falling over for." They are solid schools, but Im pretty sure that they would be in the lower half of the Big 10 in academics. Its just not a really big selling point (imo).
  3. Im at work and lazy, sue me b****. Washington is a s***ty street for them to go down, not going to be a lot of room for people to stand. Id suggest the Daley Plaza (but it will be packed). The address is 55 W. Washington (I m pretty sure the north/south streets are clark and dearborn, 1 street east of Lasalle), youd think Id remember seeing as Im there every day.
  4. These are all rumors, but ive heard that FSU/Miami will never get an invite to the SEC. Florida does not want it.
  5. I was at the Sox one and I left my office about 15 minutes before it started. Depending on the route, you should be able to get a good view on most streets. In terms of getting a good view of where the actual rally may be held, you probably want to get there early. I kind of lucked out with the Sox one and followed the parade then found a way towards the front of the stage. Not sure if this will be more or less crowded. Anyone have a picture with the route?
  6. Tru, I should have said that they want 4 of those 5 to fill the last 4 slots.
  7. Football and academics are the top 2 motivating factors at the moment. If Kansas had a scholastic reputation like Michigan, it would already have been in the Big 10. Same problem Missouri is experiencing. The Big 10 just does not seem willing stray to far from its academic priorities.
  8. Fathom, You were the first person I really saw mention GT, but now it seems to be gaining traction. New rumors floating around are the Big 10 wanting Maryland, Syracuse, Rutgers, GT and ND to fill the last 5 spots. Every indication is that Missouri is the Big 10's last resort.
  9. Yeah all the talk has been in the college football thread.
  10. Lets go Hawks, time for the rally beard prophecy to come true. I stayed away from any Chicago bars. Im sure its fun, but Ill just yell off my balcony later if necessary.
  11. As of now Missouri would need to be part of that group. Otherwise they are completely left out.
  12. heads, Any talk of the remaining big 12 teams retaining the big 12 name and inviting new schools? Its possible they could inherit the BCS bid and the tv contracts depending on how those contracts were worded.
  13. Should have been more clear about KC when I said "decent population base" Also here is a post from a MU board, they seem to feel the same way I do. Nebraska is in as 12, the rest is a wait and see. http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-...message=7631170
  14. Its not about "markets" its about a very specific contract clause between the big 10 network and tv networks. The Big 10 network gets a certain amount per subscriber in states not in the "footprint" they get exponentially more for subscriber states in the "footprint". The footprint is based on teams being located in that state. This is why Pittsburgh is unnecessary because Penn St. covers Penn., its why MU is some what desirable because STL is located in that state and it has a decent population base, its why Rutgers is desirable because its in NJ, its why they want Syracuse, because youd get the entire state of NY. Texas is not coming to the Big 10, there was a chance months ago, but its not going to happen now. The Big 10 doesnt want Texas + and Texas will not move without bringing another Texas team. The alleged Pac-10 offer giving Texas a chance to bring multiple Texas schools, Oklahoma, etc is something the Big 10 wont match. Notre Dame is an outside possibility, it just depends on how they think its all going to turn out. If this marks the beginning of super conferences, ND will not want to be left out. There would be new BCS negotiations, and most likely the 4 super conferences would be the only ones with a shot at BCS/national title games. When you have 4 sets of championship games (Pac-16, Big-16, SEC-16 and mystery-16) it will make it very easy to have those 4 be the teams that play for the championship. Youd then have the rest of the conference go to bowl games against other super conferences to retain the bowl tradition. If that happens, ND does not want to be independent, because no way will those schools let them in the party. Before they were good enough where there was a question of legitimacy if they didnt have a shot, now I dont think thats the case.
  15. I dont have any inside information, but reading between the lines it seems that Nebraska has an invite, but that MU does not at this time. Nebraska puts the big 10 at 12 and then they are going to wait and see on ND and their other choices to decide exactly where they are going. MU would put the Big 10 at 13, which is no more desirable than 11. There also is the question of whether the big 10 would prefer 7 team divisions (that way all teams could play every 4 years maximum) versus 16 where some teams will almost never play. I personally do not want a big conference because it will most likely mean Wisconsin not playing some teams, and what makes the Big 10 is that all team great is all teams play each other pretty regularly.
  16. I read the articles and they are speculative like everything else. My opinion is that Texas to the the Big 10 is not going to happen. They originally talked about it, and even may have made an exception to bring 1 Texas school with UT. But once the Pac 10 offered to bring 3-4 Texas schools, the Big 10 became irrelevant. Im pretty sure that Texas has to listen to the legislature due to the oil endowment. So they are going to stick with the other Texas schools if that means more money for them. I cant imagine ISU to the Big 10. It would make no sense for the Big 10, the whole idea of adding schools was so that they could have more "footprint" states. The Big 10 network contract has language that the Big 10 gets far more money from every subscriber in a "footprint" state, than it does from a non-footprint. Iowa is already in the footprint, adding Iowa State would effectively add 0 revenue, 0 tradition and 0 prestige (no offense but Im not sure anyone outside of the midwest even knows Iowa State). The Big 10 can decide who they want to add, they have a variety of options to go to either 12, 14 or 16 schools. I just cant imagine the Big 10 deciding that one of the next 5 schools would be ISU over say Syracuse, Uconn, Rutgers, etc. Those schools would bring in new states and tremendous amounts of revenue. Im not even sure why the Big 10 is entertaining Missouri, they really dont do much in the wow factor.
  17. That post may have been unclear. This meant that Texas will not be joining the Big 10 (ie any chance of them coming is done), due to the whole having to add other Texas schools and the idea that the Pac-10 is basically going to do whatever Texas wants. There is just no way that the Big 10 will try and woo the Texas legislator, I just cant see the Big 10 doing it. Right now I think Pac-10 expansion is going to dictate how most of this turns out. If the Pac-10 decides to expand, there is definitely a place for Nebraska in the B 10. After that you are going to have a lot of jockeying for the next 2-4 schools. If ND starts to worry about super conferences, it may finally go to the Big 10. Right now most press are speculating that Nebraska and Missouri have invitations, and the Big 10 is waiting on ND to see if it stops there or potentially goes further (Rutgers, Syracuse, people have even mentioned G-Tech). I dont think either the Pac-10 or Big 10 want to make the first move, so its both sides trying to make the other blink.

The thread where you posted all of the love letters and poems to me wasn't creepy until you posted that "Soxbadger's Life in Pictures" collage where you replaced all the other people with your face. Youve got photoshop skills, but a line was crossed.
  19. Dan Gilbert is a MSU alum (fwiw) and people on the Red Cedar Board (MSU fan site) seem to think that the Cav job could actually tempt Izzo.
  20. Kansas wont be in the Big 10. Id rather the Big 10 only added Nebraska, but if they are adding Missouri as well I would guess that you see them pick up a team from the Big East (Rutgers, Syracuse). The second part may be dependent on Notre Dame. I think Texas to the Big 10 is done, and that if the Big 12 goes down you may even see a split with OU and another school going to the SEC (thats what some people from OU are reporting.)
  21. Well Q changed to the line I wanted, looked pretty good on the first shift.
  22. If you are Kansas in those scenarios its not pretty, but youd probably call the Big East, ACC and SEC. Dont really fit geographically but if some of these expansions happen, geography wont really mean as much.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) Its a lot harder than it sounds when you have the first change, and the refs are allowing super late changes before dropping the puck. Its not about changing lines to match their lines. Its about putting out different lines so that their coach has to adjust his plan. If you keep running Towes, Buf and Kane out, he doesnt have to think much about what hes doing. If all of a sudden the line is Toews, Hossa and Kopecky (etc), that gives the other team a lot more to think about. Its why in the 3rd period when the Hawks switched, they had a lot more success. Its clear Philly found a weakness with the Hawks line, so you have to change.
