Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread

Well at least it appears the Kohl Center is super jacked up. Hopefully that will negate the inherent Duke foul advantage and Wisconsin can stay close. -

Great win by Illinois! I thought that game was over but glad that they found a way. -

MSU just doesnt play UNC well. I think its because MSU loves to push the pace, which plays right into what UNC wants to do. Many teams cant handle MSU's style, but it just doesnt effect UNC at all. In fact many times youll see UNC push the pace faster than even MSU would like. -

Indiana-Maryland is going to end up being really close. I havent been that impressed with Maryland. I just have no confidence in the Wisconsin-Duke game tomorrow, even if its at the Kohl center. Duke has looked really good, and Wisconsin hasnt really meshed at all yet. -

Unless a team has much better athletes, NU will stick around in a half court game. -
Sox will not offer arbitration to Dotel, Dye, Pods or Castro
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Plenty of the people in that thread still post daily. There is very little accountability on the internet for a bad opinion. After a few years of posting here, you can tell what the post is going to say by the person who is saying it. -

Ranger is talking about how people were jumping off of bridges saying that the Sox got ripped off for Garcia. Those past threads have to be pretty comical. I know that there were only a handful of us in support of the Floyd acquisition. I think in the future the Brandon Allen trade will be sort of like this. After Allen was traded there were people on this board saying that Allen was a future All-Star. -
Marcus Jordan - Adidas Situation
Soxbadger replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The scenario is that Adidas told Jordan it would be okay before he committed. If Adidas had told him he had to wear Adidas from the start he would have never gone to UCF. Adidas pulled a jackass move, there is just no defending it. They changed their mind after Jordan already committed to UCF. The NCAA wasnt going to allow Jordan to transfer for this and not have to sit out a year. How can you defend a corporation like Adidas purposefully lying to Jordan and UCF about the situation? If you notice, Jordan was willing to make huge concessions to Adidas, Adidas was willing to make no concessions. -
No there is a problem with the means as well. The best way to use the Scientific method is to isolate a single variable(s) so that the data is meaningful. If you have innumerable variables the experiment is not really worthwhile because you can never be sure what caused that specific result. At least that is my opinion.

Wisconsin v. Az last night was one of the worst games ive ever seen. The refs made it unwatchable. -
Your not being a jerk, Im just some what perplexed as to how your last post explains how Ozzie's statements are relevant to whether or not Vizquel is being signed by the Sox. It seems you are saying that Ozzie is more interesting/newsworthy. I was saying that Ozzie Guillen is not a relevant source of whether or not Vizquel has been signed or is going to be signed. I said the other people would have more information on that subject. This isnt about whats "interesting" or what is "entertaining" this is about cold hard facts. And according to Ozzie Guillen, he is not in the loop, so he doesnt really have any facts on the situation.
-
Well I can name countless people who have more relevant thoughts (KW, Hahn, Reinsdorf, KW's assistant, Hahn's assistant, anyone who is working on the potential contract, Vizquel's agent, Vizquel's agents assistant): IE Those people who are in the loop. Conversely, if the question was about "Where will Vizquel play" or "How will Vizquel be used", Ozzie would be the most relevant source. Just because Ozzie is the manager of the White Sox, does not mean he has relevant information about trades. Ozzie himself admits this: Notice how he says "They aren't telling me anything." If he isnt being told anything, how does he have relevant information? I understand that Ozzie as manager, may be in the loop, but since he explicitly states that he is not, I just dont understand why hes being quoted on this potential deal. Unless the premise of the article is to show that Ozzie isnt being kept in the loop on trades because he leaks things.
-
Chisox, Exactly, if Ozzie isnt in the loop why are his comments on this trade relevant? Its just odd to write about the Vizquel deal and use quotes from some one who admits they arent in the loop.
-
What is strange about that article is basically the source is saying that he isnt in the loop because he has a tendency to leak things. How is that a good source?

Political Science is not a science. I have a political science degree, I in no way, shape or form believe that I am a "scientist".

If you're an NFL GM, what round would you pick Lebron?
Soxbadger replied to ozzfest's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
My guess is that if he had gone on to football they would have changed him to a LB/DE at OSU. And he wasnt just all-state, he was 1st team all state as a sophomore. -

Soxbadger replied to ozzfest's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He did a little more than just "play". As a sophomore I believe he was first team all-state. -
Ranger, I think most reasonable people believe that reliable established news media, whether it be print, radio or television have more credible rumors or stories. The problem I have with this situation was with the unnecessary attacks against people who have nothing but the best intentions in terms of giving Sox fans information. I would like to thank you for taking the time to post on this forum.
-
The premise of the attack was ridiculous. Basically if you had written "unidentified sources" or "sources close to the team" you would have appropriately disclosed that you had a source for the article. No one who writes these rumors ever says: "According to the Assistant to the GM the following trade may occur:" If you did something like that youd probably never get a story again. This entire thing is much ado about nothing. My guess is that for whatever reason there is some sort of rift between Chicago Tribune and Cowley/Sun Times, and this exchange was actually a manifestation of that rift. The comments or insinuations that the Chicago Tribune had anything to do with this article is what some what mind boggling. The silver lining is you cant pay for this type of publicity. Years ago when this place started I doubt you imagined that a sports reporter and sports show in Chicago would be taking time out of there day to talk about you.
-
Cowley really has done a great job of getting you guys free publicity. I also think the fact that you have handled it "professionally" is making him look worse.
-
So I assume your silence with regard to the "trekkie" comment is an admission?
-
I think you guys do a great job and I find this site more useful than most "reporters."
-
As I said, I dont read his articles, nor do I plan to. I can get second hand information from other sources who dont have to demean others.
-
I dont claim to know or read Cowley's article, but the sign of a poor argument is personal attacks. The statement, "written in the basement of a trekkie turned blogger," is completely irrelevant.
