  1. Thome will pinch hit. Thats why he had to think about it...
  2. If they already cleared waivers the Sox can trade them to NL or AL. It could be any team.
  3. I agree, but at the same time they could be more successful using some common sense in what they are doing. Instead of just "screwing around" with the Japanese to mess with them, they should wait till they are actually hunting whales and then try and stop them. If the Paul Watson had a prop fouler and used it when the Japanese were actually going after a whale, it may save that whale. Their tactics resemble vandals and people who are just trying to create mischief.
  4. Well it was pretty obvious at the end of last season that the Japanese whalers had one upped Watson and crew. In the last episode I wondered why they didnt put one of the zodiacs in the water to try and get in front of the harpoon ships to stop them. Im also surprised that with all of the publicity the show has been getting that the Japanese are still able to whale.
  5. No I gave you reasons. Yesterday, 03:54 PM Yesterday, 04:04 PM You are the one arguing that he is something more than a "solid 1b spect". When I say "plus" in terms of 1b, they have to be an excellent hitting spect, some one who is going to have a chance at an all-star team, which means they really have to hit.
  6. Kenny, Are you really comparing Otsuka (35) to Pena (27)? I guess that just further shows how there is no way to have an "intelligent" debate on this subject. Although after you stated: I really stopped caring because what is the point of discussing a prospect if you think that you know more than everyone else? Also in your first post you said "uninformed statement" which is questioning my knowledge, not my intelligence. But hey thanks again for the smartass remark, its interesting that I am able to express my opinion without insulting you, yet as soon as you are questioned you immediately begin to insult others and state that "your opinion doesnt matter." That is the telltale sign of a weak argument. But my guess is that in your next post you will say I dont even know what an argument is.
  7. Yes A plus prospect is one that is above a "regular every day player" its a player who you are expecting to be at least above average with the chance to be an all star. Frank Thomas was a plus 1b spect. Prince Fielder was a plus 1b spect. Brandon Allen, not so much. Id be careful about calling people uniformed. And he meant this player http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/Chris-Carter.shtml An "average" spect to me is some one who will be a bench player/starter for a bad team. A plus spect is some one who has the potential to be a star. I dont throw around the term "plus" as easily as you. But thanks for the insult, you get to go on the small list of people who have insulted my knowledge. I hope that Allen makes an all star team for your sake, otherwise youll look pretty silly for your "uniformed" statement,
  8. Um you said in the eyes of a lot of people Brandon Allen was already the second coming of Frank Thomas. Also That type of player hopefully wont be starting at 1b for the Sox in the next 5 years, so Allen was a bench player to them. Hence why he is easier to trade.
  9. Well if people are thinking Brandon Allen is as good of a prospect as Frank Thomas, I just dont know what to say about that. From what I have seen (obviously limited as i dont see many minor league games) he seemed like a solid 1b spect. Unfortunately 1b is one of the easier positions to fill, so generally unless you feel it is a "special" player they are easier to give up. Frank Thomas was minor league player of the year in his second season in the minors at age 21. he hit 18 home runs, 71 runs batted in, and a league-best 112 walks as a member of the Class-AA Birmingham Barons. (His obp was .487) Im not sure how you can say Allen is comparable.
  10. Before a game its Christian players doing a Christian prayer. I assure you if before the game a bunch of Christian players put on yarmulkes, wore Hacidic outfits and said The Shema prayer people would be offended.
  11. Cowboys had their punter test it out as well. The problem for the NFL is the rules are the rules, and if they felt that 85 feet was to low they could have at any time amended their rules prior to the Cowboys building their stadium. If I was the Cowboys and the NFL changed the rule and wanted me to move the scoreboard, Id fight them and at worst say that they should have to pay all the costs associated with the move.
  12. Soxbadger

    LOST!!!!

Must refuse urge to see any spoilers.
  13. Now Brandon Allen is a plus positional spect? Eventually hell be the second coming of Frank Thomas.
  14. NFL is going to be in for a huge lawsuit if they try and change the rules and then retroactively apply them to Cowboy stadium. From what ive heard the scoreboard can be moved (it has to be moved for some upcoming concert) but Jones likes its location. If its the same for both teams, it really doesnt matter to me, and if the rules were 85 ft he did follow them and gave it an extra 5 ft.
  15. It may be a trend, but that doesnt necessarily mean there is a correlation to the hitting coach. It may be that Sox players hit better in warmer weather. It be that wind pattens at the Cell carry the ball better in those months. It could be Walker, but how does that make any sense? Is he doing his job differently the months that they are doing well and he only decides to do his job that way in the same months every year? That just doesnt really make much sense.
  16. Im not sure where to start. I never said no one is listening to Greg Walker, I just think that most Sox hitters are set in their ways and are unwilling to change. As for some one being held responsible, once again that is your opinion. In my opinion the Sox are a .500 team that had plenty of questions to start the season. They have kept the team in the race, maybe that is not everyone elses expectations, but those were mine. The organization will do nothing? They add Peavy and Rios, and youre acting like the team just sits around and consistently doesnt go out and get pieces to try and win. Sox have been competitive most years under this coaching staff. I am willing to be patient and give them a chance next year when the team should be better.
  17. So you are agreeing with what I first said; The last part I say "unless the Sox are statistically eliminated", as of now the Sox arent statistically eliminated therefore I am saying he should pitch. Are you actually saying something different, or are you just arguing to argue?
  18. The probabilities of either happening are pretty low. How many times this year have you seen a pitcher on the Sox get hit with a line drive on the elbow? How many times have you seen a line drive hit into the Sox dugout? Both are relatively rare occurrences which is why you dont manage your team based on "fear of injury." Well it would give Peavy a chance to play with the Sox in regular season action. It will allow him to get comfortable with AJ and his defense. It will also give our coaches a chance to watch Peavy play for us. As for being patient, this isnt about patient or impatient. Its not like Peavy has a shoulder strain and if he over works it he may risk next season. His injury seems to be completely healed and he seems fine. There is no reason he shouldnt be pitching. You dont just shut down players to shut them down.
  19. Wcsox, And Peavy could get hit by a line drive while sitting on the bench and have to have his arm amputated. If your healthy and your not "hurting" you play. He has pitched significantly less innings this year, he might as well get some work in before taking another long hiatus.
  20. Taking a line drive off the arm is not an injury where using it is likely going to cause more injury. It is either injured or its not. Unless you believe that a bruise is that type of injury? Im just going to assume that wasnt a serious answer for the sake of my sanity.
  21. Yeah lets put Steve on notice. STEVE YOU'RE ON NOTICE FOR YOUR WEAK ARTICLE.
  22. There is absolutely no reason to shut Peavy down just to shut him down. Its not some sort of arm injury where over use may hurt him. So unless the Sox are statistically eliminated you might as well have him pitch.
  23. Steve, I respectfully disagree. The White Sox under Ozzie Guillen and KW have been about as successful as any time in franchise history. Sure I may disagree with some of the moves Ozzie makes, but its easier to remember the times he made a bad decision. I assume that most people are frustrated with this team, but at the same time its not really Ozzie that has caused this team to give away games. Some of the players who the team needed to rely on (especially offense) are just not producing at the level necessary to compete every game. The Sox have no offensive stud, and there is nothing Ozzie's managing can do about that. Im not about to make any changes after this season, it just wasnt a team that I had a lot of confidence in. Next year should be the team that is judged. If they cant come together as a cohesive unit, then yes you have to look at Ozzie. But right now I just dont believe its his fault, and Ive been one of the more critical posters on his in game abilities.
  24. Or make for a legendary ending that becomes the best selling movie in Hollywood history when Gordon Beckham wins an Oscar for his role as Gordon Beckham.
  25. I want to ask a serious question: Do you really believe that is what Walker tells them that? Walker is a coach on a team run by Ozzie Guillen who loves contact and small ball. Do you really believe that he has a coach who is telling the players the opposite? Or is the simplest answer that the players are just not listening to Greg Walker? Im sorry but most Sox players after they leave the Sox do not all of a sudden become amazing hitters. Most of these players are pretty set on their ways and do not really take well to coaching.
