Beckham's bat gets through the strike zone really fast.
-
Today's strike zone has been interesting.
-
Konerko and CQ had great pitches to hit, do you want them not swinging? Its baseball the best hitters only get a hit 1 out of 3 chances.
-
Sox are just getting themselves out on some of these pitches. Lackey has been leaving a lot of breaking pitches over the plate.

Beckham named AL Rookie of the Month for July

Shouldnt the title be: Gordon Beckham preemptively elected to the Hall of Fame. Because the HOF loses all legitimacy without Beckham in it. -
I think the problem is that Jake Peavy is not Todd Ritchie. Where as Wells/Fogg/Lowe are comparable to the package that was given up for Peavy. So if back then the Sox had traded those 3 players for a former Cy Young winner, I doubt you see anyone complaining. The problem was that some people didnt like Ritchie from the start (turns out they were right).

I wish that guy was a real GM. We could trade him buckets full of crap for elite players and hed think he was ripping us off because elite players cost more. What a great article.

The point was Ozzie was implying that he was not going to consistently play Beckham. McDowell thought that was a mistake and felt that if Beckham was going to be on the MLB roster he had to play every day. I dont really know how you can say McDowell is wrong because it appears that what Beckham needed was constant at bats so that he could over come his initial struggles.

Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter

The Sox havent been cheap in a while. They have been putting the money back into the product, the money just hasnt been producing. Throwing money at the situation doesnt always solve the problem. -

The injury obviously hurt his value and maybe he realized that running the bases as a pitcher isnt that great of an idea. -
Im sure Walker wishes nothing but the best for Anderson, Fields, etc. How many young offensive players have done as poorly as Anderson or Fields (for the Sox) and then when traded set the world on fire?

You think we are getting posthumous Ted Williams? Hawk would go crazy! -
Im not going to spend time retyping what has already been said, but im some what shocked that other people arent noticing AJ's defensive inefficiencies. I understand that AJ plays to win and plays hard, but if he doesnt have the confidence to stop a ball in the dirt in the 9th, then he really cant be our catcher much longer. His pitch calling has been on the decline and I wonder if i because he is trying to over compensate for base runners and for balls in the dirt.

I guess the word "most" has lost all meaning? Not to mention: They are omnivores, they obviously eat some meat. Which is why I said you "generally" as there may be an occasion where it actually did happen. Im not sure where you are going with the argument, other than to support the fact that most of our ancestors eat more fruits and vegetables than meat.
-
Depends on how you view history. Are we talking 100 years, 1,000 years, 100,000 years or 100,000,000 years. Most ape and chimpanzee diets are comprised of fruits and vegetables. You generally dont see silver back gorillas hunting down gazelles.

Right but we dont know how a human would act who was in the same situation. Lets say that there is a more advanced species on planet earth that keeps humans for pets. If they fed us a bowl of cereal every day would we still eat it, or would we refuse even if we thought it was the only food available? I know that some dogs will eat their treats or human food before they touch the food thats in their bowl. It shows that they have preference, but also have a need to eat...
-
I dont really believe this is true. I dont own a dog, but I do have cats. They may eat the dry food that is in their bowl, but if a cheeseburger is available theyd forget all about the food in their bowl. I personally do not hunt, I just dont know where I stand on the issue of eating meat and I understand that I am hypocritical so I just dont get involved. Any type of rationalization that I have come up with just does not work, so I just have given up on trying. I think what is interesting though is that I have seen humans compared to carnivores (its not our choice argument), but fruits/vegetables are the primary food for most (if not all) primate species. I also think there is a difference between hunting for sport and killing for food. I dont get any enjoyment out of thinking about an animal dying to feed me....

Official Soccer Thread
Soxbadger replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Im not so sure what yesterday's game proves. Sure the US lost in devastating fashion, but some times in soccer once a team goes up 2-0 the score can get out of hand because the other team brings to many people forward. The US defense failed to step up to set the off side trap properly and gave up some good chances to Mexico. As for the depth argument, I believe that about half the players on that team will be starting for Mexico in Azteca. On the other hand 1-2 may be starting for the US. The real shame here is that the US did not field a better team. I mean does Altidore and others not need the experience all of a sudden? -
I thought Bobby looked good, I just really dont understand how he threw basically all fastballs. I didnt see him shake off Aj either... I think that inning was because of how the game was called.
-
0-2 why no curveball or something in the dirt? Just strange.
-
Didnt look like he was throwing his fastball as hard but had better location with all pitches.
-
Bobby has this.
