When people are using the terms "conservative" and "liberal" it would be really interesting to see how they are actually defining those terms. For example: I assume the "yet those who want to give up their own freedoms" is referring to liberals. What is strange is that true social liberal should support of personal freedom more than a true social conservative. Social conservatives are the group who is the most for restraining personal freedom; war on drugs, christian coalition, morality in govt., tough on crime, pro-life, restricting marriage to heterosexuals, and so on and so forth. Conservative (imo) doesnt mean what you are trying to make it mean. In fact, I have never met a conservative who is willing to come close to my ideas on keeping the govt. away from our "freedoms". If social freedom is your top priority, your going to be a liberal. If on the other hand you are looking for economic freedom, you most likely would be a conservative. I personally think that economic freedom is less important than social freedom, so im a liberal.

Steve McNair shot to death
Soxbadger replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I disagree with this. But its just my opinion based on my experience with divorce. Each person reacts to a stressful situation differently, I dont know why McNair did what he did, but as I said before Im not one to be morally righteous. -
Steve McNair shot to death

Its a lot easier to say: "Man up and get a divorce" When youre not worth millions. I dont know his life or what he was going through, he seemed like a good guy, Im not about to get morally righteous on him. -
He could have donated sperm to a sperm bank at one point, therefore he would have to answer "To the best of my knowledge."

I actually dont believe there is much connection between the two. When Jackson was burned during the Pepsi commercial, he suffered burns on his scalp. There are basically no reports of facial burns, and in 1984 he already began to have nose jobs/other facial surgery. http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/Jackson.html

Perhaps in a better world Michael Jackson never has to face many of the childhood problems he had. But at the end of the day you play the hand that you are dealt. Im not sure how you could feel anything but sadness for his life, he was some one who could have had anything in the world but never was happy. It doesnt take a psych major to figure out that the reason why he had all of the surgeries and transformed so much was because he literally couldn't look at himself in the mirror. Everyone is a freak to some one.

If I had to guess they lost money last year and many of those subtractions were to make up for losses.

It is what it is. That was 15 years ago, I guess when the Sox won in 2005 and they have boosted the payroll to over 100mil, I dont really think much about what used to be. Would winning in 1994 have changed my life? I dont know. Right now the Sox are in the upper half in terms of payroll and in the lower half in terms of attendance. Unless you think the Sox are about bleeding money, either attendance has to go up, or payroll has to go down (unless they make the playoffs etc and get a boosted revenue stream.)
-
You cant argue the facts. If the Sox had a higher attendance, they would be able to support a higher payroll. Sox fans for better or for worse will only support this team if they are the clear favorites to win. Anything less they are going to be pessimistic. It wasnt always this way, but since the 1994 baseball strike Sox fans have a much different attitude towards attending games.

I guess imo it all boils down to when do you think the Sox best window for winning is. If you feel its the next 1.5 years, dealing for Halladay makes sense and you dont need to worry as much about the spects. If you feel that the window is 2 years from now, trading for Halladay may not make a lot of sense.

The younger US players looked really good against Grenada. Play Honduras next. -
Okay Buerhle is a soft tossing lefty, so the comparison is pretty horrific. Secondly MB had 34 gs last year, he had 30 the year before and 32 the year before that. Since 2005, he has not pitched over 220 innings. Third, last year Halladay threw 3552 pitches. MB threw 3385. The year before Halladay thew 3323, MB 3099. Fourth, prior to 2007 Halladay was averaging 3.46 pitches per plate appearance, since then he has been in the 3.58 range. I guess your not going to convince me a player who has that much wear on his arm is a good bet to stay healthy. If he was a soft tossing lefty like MB or Jamie Moyer, the pitch count wouldnt be as worrisome. But Halladay isnt that type of a pitcher, and Im not sure how much Id spend on a pitcher who has thrown 38k pitches.
-
Blue Jays can keep Halladay for most of these trade ideas. To put things into perspective, by the end of this season (barring injury) Halladay will have pitched around 911 innings in the last 4 years (ages 29-32). At age 25 and 26 he pitched 239 and 261 ip, and subsequently only pitched 133 and 141 innings in the next 2 seasons. So are we to believe that his body is more durable at age 32? My answer is no, and would say that the amount of mileage being put on Halladay's arm is an accident waiting to happen.

I thought there were some copyright issues with the photo that was used to make that poster, and that the photographer may be claiming copyright infringement. Which would be a pretty good reason why Apple would stay the away from it until all of that is sorted out.

Id have responded a lot better if Elle was still involved in the equation. /shakes fist

Im not sure how to find it, but my first post was about trading Paul Konerko for pitching and signing David Ortiz as a FA from the Twins.

What's the best seats you've ever had at the Cell?
Soxbadger replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Closest seats Ive been in are section 127 (I think thats right its the section immediately next to scout seats on visitor side) rows 1-5 on different games. -
Just the other day I was thinking Hossa to the Hawks would be a nice off season move.
-
Ace I think you meant "Osgood-Schlatters Disease" Ive had patellar tendonitis, but the symptoms dont match.
-
They still need 3 players to score. I have no problem with Dotel or Thornton giving up hr's as long as they arent walking people. (When you have this type of lead)
-
You could see Ozzie felt bad about yanking Thornton there, but at the same time he may need him again.

You mean that is what happens when the country that you grew up in forces you to play even though you are injured. Im sure that Yao playing in the Olympics did not help the healing process. -
Probably a good shot, does not equal conviction. Nor does settling = conviction. For all we know Michael felt he was 150% innocent, but his lawyers, managers etc advised him that the negative publicity surrounding the case would cost him more than the settlement, therefore he should settle. We live in America, where for better or for worse, you are innocent until proven guilty. Its a sad story and no one really won here.
