I think its obvious that Iranian leadership is trying to bait the west into involvement so that it can gain back popular support. Which is why the West just has to let the chips fall where they may.

My argument is that the manager's job is to put players in a position to succeed. After Linebrink looked bad and the game is starting to slip away, what purpose is sticking with him, besides for blind loyalty? I mean if the Sox get out of that inning, its luck. I guess I just dont feel that Thornton is being handled the way that I would like him to. I think that he should be used more often, and that he should be able to come into innings when there arent people on base. I dont think its Linebrink's fault, I think its Ozzie's fault for leaving a player out there who clearly wasnt capable of getting the job done today.
-
It would be irrational if this was the first time it happened. It starts to become a valid complaint when half of the thread prior to Linebrink even throwing a pitch become nervous about his ability. Not only that, but its why did Ozzie just leave him out to die. What good pitching calls has Ozzie made lately?

I thought the Sox should have had this series, the Cubs arent that great of a team. Obviously they can still take 2/3, but these are the type of games that teams who make the playoffs need to win. We tied to make the playoffs last year, I dont want to think back on this game and think "What if"

Chisoxfn, My biggest problem is that to start the inning I commented about how this would go. And it went exactly in that fashion. Maybe Thornton does go out there and get shelled, but im so tired of losing with our best pitchers still in the pen. If Thornton is going to have to pitch an inning today, let him pitch the 8th with no one on base. If its a 3 run lead, the game is "close" but if its 4, its "in hand". I guess to me it was just to close for comfort and Id rather go with the best and lose with the best, than sit here and say "What if". No one would have questioned if Thornton came in and lost, because hes the best we have.
-
Chisox, Thornton had basically 0 margin for error, if Thornton does the exact same job starting the 8th, he retires 1 batter, 1 batter gets on base, and retires the next 2. Ozzie puts his bullpen in positions to fail.
-
Well if you put your team in a position to lose, they are going to lose. To bad for Floyd, because if thats an AL game he starts the 8th for sure.
-
The worst part of this is the Sox have been the better team for every single inning except 1. And in that inning all they had to do was get 1 out per run.
-
I dont care if I should be able to retire 3 batters, as soon as you see that the pitcher you put in is not going to be able to do that, you f***ing yank them. How many games have the Sox lost because Ozzie goes to Dotel or Linebrink first, and then calls in Thornton when its to late. Its not like Thornton has been over used, its just f***ing stupidity.
-
I hate Ozzie's use of Thornton so much. After the 3 run hr, you have to f***ing pull Linebrink. He pitched a ton of pitches and wasnt even good. How can every Sox fan understand this, but f***ing Ozzie screws it. 4 runs in 1 god damn inning, Id rather have f***ing brought in Jenks when it was 5-1 still and 2 men on base.
-
Well my prediction was correct. Ozzie dicks around and the Sox give up a 4 run lead in 1 inning. Why not just leave Gavin in? Why not bring in Thornton? Screw you Ozzie
-
Why does Ozzie not use Thornton to start the inning? This could be one of those games where you dont close it out when you have the chance and it slips away. Hes had plenty of rest, god damn it.
-
Thornton hasnt pitched in 3 days though (right?)
-
Does Ozzie hate Thornton?
-
If the Sox had a decent defensive 1b replacement you could pr for Konerko here.
-
How can they not respect BA!
-
Or Dempster just throwing one right down the middle that Danks can easily bunt. Without control its hard to be out there.
-
If only Jordan was on the team maybe they wouldnt notice.
-
Huh? I can see Wrigley out of my balcony and it was raining all night. The game would have been horrible conditions, especially considering that Wrigley doesnt drain nearly as well as the Cell (its actually one of the worst at handling water.) Would you rather that they started the game, had it go 2-3 innings and then called it? At that point we lose Danks for this series...

Well that is the thing, I believe that Khamenei will begin to distance himself regardless of the outcome in an attempt to show that he "wasn't part of this". Im not sure that the entire govt has been shaken to the core where some one could outright challenge him, at least not Mousavi. Now if another high ranking cleric or clerics, began to speak against Khamenei and implicated him, then perhaps you could see both the President and Ayatollah go down at the same time.
-
The longer it continues, the more serious it is. No matter what happens Ahmadenijad's legitimacy has been seriously challenged. Even if he stays President my guess is that the clerics, etc will try and reign him in so as not to start a full scale revolution.
-
My opinion is that Obama is keeping his mouth shut so as not to give Ahmadinejad any momentum. Right now Ahmadinejad is still speaking out against the West and US. If the US stays silent its hard for him to use his "Western threat" rhetoric which has been good at rallying his base. I think silence is the most prudent decision.

Who cares about beer, if your going to be in Wrigleyville, I suggest hitting up Ian's Pizza. http://www.ianspizza.com/ It started in Madison and has good thin sliced pizza (exotic flavors).
