Derrick Rose's High School Grades Were Altered
Soxbadger replied to maggsmaggs's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Itll stop if they kill Cal's career and take Memphis down with it. No coach would risk their career and no school would risk their program. The problem is that the NCAA is complacent and does not want it to stop. They cant have the top players playing JUCO or over seas for a year. It will hurt the NCAA product and eventually would cause people to consider creating a new league that allowed 18 year olds. In order for the NCAA/NBA to keep the status quo they have to bend the rules so kids can get into top programs. Which is why there will be very little done. -
Derrick Rose's High School Grades Were Altered

Well it wouldnt change for me. NCAA athletes do so much for the school that if it was up to me they wouldnt even have to take classes. I dont care what grades Ron Dayne got or what Devin Harris scored on his ACT. They went to Wisconsin to play football, I went to Wisconsin for school. Their "degree" should be based on football. I dont understand what the relevance of this statement is. I doubt that its Derrick Rose didnt want to learn, he just obviously wasnt very bright. Some people can play basketball, some people can learn. If one of the tests to enter college was to dunk a basketball, Id never have been able to enter college. No matter how hard I tried or work, Im limited in that respect. Maybe Rose has a learning disability, who knows. I guess I just dont care and in some ways feel sorry that his education was so poor he couldnt pass the SAT score necessary to get into the NCAA. -
Derrick Rose's High School Grades Were Altered

The problem is that everyone won by Rose going to college. Memphis won because its program got recognition and went to the Championship. NCAA won because Rose played in the NCAA and therefore presumably brought in more fans, viewers etc. NBA won because they didnt have to draft Rose right out of High School so he got 1 year of development free. The NCAA wants these players in Division 1 programs, they dont want Rose going to a Juco and then the NBA. So if it wasnt Memphis, it would have been somewhere. I think thats why Rose is some what being let off the hook, because the NCAA knows this is what it takes to make sure the the top players go to big time NCAA programs. -

The reason why I dont really care what Rose did but think that Cal should face sanctions is as follows: Derrick Rose is a basketball player. Derrick Rose is not accused of cheating while playing basketball. Derrick Rose is being accused of scholastic cheating, and I dont think anyone here really believes that school matters at all with his profession. In comparison John Calipari is a basketball coach. A large part of his job is recruiting so that he can win basketball games. When Calipari cheated he was screwing all of the other NCAA teams who did not cheat to get players on their teams. -

If I had to bet, the person who changed the records was an employee of CPS and made some nice money changing 4 transcripts. -

I dont think its all about winning a championship. I think Cleveland needs to bring in a legit star to play with Lebron and show him that they are dedicated to being more than just Lebron and friends. -
hahaha No one thought that a Catholic Spanish judge may not be pro-choice? Obama should have consulted his teleprompter.

I really believe that Lebron feels he has outgrown Cleveland. Obviously no one is sure, but I think Lebron will really weigh all of his options. -
If you are going solo practitioner I suggest that you join Chicago Bar Association, etc. People will call up the CBA asking for an attorney and they give out names of people who are members. I assume by your first post that you already have passed the bar?

John Calipari is a dirty coach?
Soxbadger replied to Palehosefan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He took the SAT before he went to college. As for worrying about school, I guess I dont even see why some one who is leaving after 1 semester would care about school. Its not like he was going to flunk out, all he had to do was worry about academic eligibility and if the coach is willing to cheat on the SAT, hell make sure that his grades work out as well. I guess I really just dont care about atheletes and their grades. They arent going to school for a degree, they are going to school for sports. It would be like me getting a grade for a Saturday pick up football game. -

No I meant Nike may push Lebron to Chicago over NY because of how much success Nike has had with Jordan in the Chicago market. NY market they have not been nearly as successful. -

I think you are missing the point. I dont agree with age restrictions past the age of 18. I dont agree with them on Senators, I dont agree with them on basketball players, I dont agree with them on any job. If an employer is willing to hire you, you should be able to get the job. The problem with the NBA, and why its different than your examples, is that some NBA employers would hire players at the age of 18. They just have colluded to make it so that they can unfairly limit the market. In a word no. The ADA requires "accommodation" at the work place. I remember the Casey Martin, the argument was based on "accommodation" that Casey Martin was just as good of a golfer, but due to disability could not walk (which is not part of the game). This is far different than an person who is not qualified to be a player, getting special treatment. An example of a similar accommodation would be: An NBA player has a strange condition that he has to wear pants when he plays. The NBA rules state all players must have similar uniforms. It is likely that a court would say that player is allowed to wear pants and play in the NBA, because it has no impact on the game. I guess at the end of the day I dont think the NBA has a legitimate argument for why it should be allowed to discriminate by age. I think that the NFL has a much better one, and as such while I disagree with the NFL rule, I understand that it is most likely for the best interest of the player. -

By 4, I meant the 4th reason why Lebron may come to Chicago is because of Nike. I still consider Chicago a long shot because the Bulls just dont seem to ever get the top free agent. I know they got Wallace, but thats a lot different than Lebron, T-Mac, Kobe, etc. I also think that New Jersey will be a much bigger player than you imagine. -

Im not saying Rose is innocent. I am saying that what Rose did, did not give him an advantage as a player in NCAA. So at the end of the day, why do I really care? I guess I dont, because I dont care about NCAA players as "student" athletes. Everyone knows they are held to a different standard, so why not just get rid of the arbitrary bulls*** like how high your SAT score has to be ect. If Rose graduated high school and a college accepts him, let him go to college. Its the college's reputation that suffers. Im just tired of the ridiculous rules instituted by the NCAA and NBA to create a farm system where players are entirely at risk for thousands of dollars in scholarships. Playing in the NBA is not a right, employment is not a right. But age discrimination is against the law, and unfortunately for the NBA and its players, it is seen as a "thug" league, so it is held to different standards than say, MLB, NHL and MLS (Adu played when he was like 14 professionally. (Changed because Adu was drafted at 14)) Some times I catch this show called "World's Deadliest Catch" you see 18 year olds going on ships in the Bering Strait to make a few thousand dollars. They are risking their lives, yet there is no rule that stops them from doing it. Yet basketball players at 18 cant enter the NBA draft? Its all about money and in this case its about the NCAA and NBA trying to make the most off of the player, while paying them the least. So personally, Im glad that Rose screwed the system. Now Calipari, he is a different type of cheater. Because his job is to coach a basketball team against other basketball teams. Having Rose on his team made his team better, and therefore made him better at his job. Rose's SAT score made no difference in whether or not he was a good player or not. And its not a good argument to say: "Oh he could play in Europe." Because otherwise we could say that for everything. (Edit was to correct Adu's age when first playing in MLS, I thought it was 16 but was actually 14.) -

4. NIKE I think the Bulls would be considered a long shot. -
Dr's crying about lawyers is one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on America. At least in Illinois, in order to even file a case for medical malpractice another Dr. needs to certify that the other Dr committed negligence. http://www.mcandl.com/illinois.html Try and find another area where you need an affidavit from an expert that there is a "reasonable and meritorious cause" before you can actually file the case. Which is why most medical malpractice cases settle.

King of the Hill>Beavis & Butthead. Some of the sketches were good, but King of the Hill is hilarious. And I will never forget Cornholio. Also didnt realize Goode Family was by him, I was watching the Hawks.

The logic for absolving Rose is that Rose should have never had to go to the NCAA in the first place. If Rose could have entered the NBA draft there wouldnt be so much pressure on him to get a good SAT score, so that he can then quit college to go to the draft. I doubt it was about going to Memphis, my guess is that if his SAT score was so low that he couldnt get into Mephis, he could not have gotten into any Division I program. If he cheated the system, it was so that he could go on to play in the NBA. Cal cheated the system so he could get a competitive edge. Some one taking the SAT for Rose didnt make him a better basketball player. -

Puyol was really able to be physical with Ronaldo, and whenever Ronaldo was physical back Puyol would fall. Ronaldo will become a better player for playing in the more physical Premiership, but last night the game favored La Liga style play. ManU could have won that game, but some times the ball just doesnt find the net. -
Millions of people starved to death in Northern Vietnam before the conflict with the French and US. All it did was make them even more fervent in their devotion to Ho Chi Minh and the Communist leaders who starved in the fields with them. Many Chinese are unaware of the Tiananmen Square protest and if shown a picture of "tank man" could not identify where or when it happened. It is possible that the people of North Korea's minds have become warped over time. I dont know how they would react to being shown western values (or even South Korea), but I do know that historically speaking, Democracy and to some extent Capitalism have not always been able to sway people. My guess is that the people of North Korea may very well believe that it is the west/capitalism's fault for all of the ills of the country.

Well tonight is going to be a big one for Huet. If he cant keep the Hawk's competitive you really have to wonder about the goalie situation going forward. If he can keep it close, at least its something to build on. -
The better question is: How many of her rulings were appealed to the Supreme Court and were never heard? Supreme Court only hears the cases that it wants to hear, and usually that means it is going to change something. Very rarely (if ever) does the supreme court take an appeal and just say "Oh the appellate judge was right, we just wanted to reinforce it."

So you also believe no one should have guns, or anything dangerous because we dont know what they might do?

There are no real implications that Kim Il-Jong will actually use a nuclear weapon. (Damn posted before I was done) My guess is that they want it for "deterrence" in that if they have one other countries are less likely to invade for fear of atomic reprisal. Nukes arent that great for offense unless you have a lot of them. If NK nuked some one it would kill a lot of people, but also be the end of NK, so not sure why they would do that for no reason. Second, Im not always sure that "if people see how others live" theyll immediately change. North Vietnam was well aware of how South Vietnam lived (to the point where thousands if not millions starved to death in NK because of rice not being shipped in large enough amounts from the South to North), but at the end of the day they preferred communism, because it was the communists who had fought off the west and gained Vietnam's independence, not the democrats. Im not that familiar with Korea's history. So I am not going to sit here thousands of miles away and believe that my way of live is better and that all that it takes is people to see it and theyll change. My way of life is 1 way, maybe not the best, maybe not the worst.

The problem is that unlike Saddam, Kim Il-Jong (or whichever son you believe will be the successor) may believe his own cult of personality that he is invincible and may be willing to send thousands to there deaths without even caring about crippling the country. Im not sure how strong the North Korean army is, I dont think anyone is. I just dont think that attacking North Korea is advisable.
