See thats where I disagree, I felt McCain sounded like a broken record and doesnt understand Obama's plan thus making him look just angry. The idea that the United States is some how going to cut spending or stop spending is one that never happens. Almost every President has consistently increased spending. I dont believe that McCain will really cut spending, I just believe that he will create more deficit spending. Obama is just telling it like it is, if you want to spend more money, you need to make more money. The United States makes its money off income tax, so if we want the society we have grown accustomed to some one is going to have to pay for it. Obama's plan takes advantage of the fact that the govt makes a disproportionate amount of its money off the highest tax payers, and therefore understands marginal tax increases on the richest result in massive tax cuts for the poorest. McCain imo is still in fantasy land where he can fix Social Security by sitting down at the table and getting it done or fix medicaid by asking the smartest people in the United States to give their opinions. Just like Obama, Id like to pay 0% taxes, but at the end of the day I understand that in order to spend money you have to make money.

Really? I thought McCain came off as bitter and angry, and feel that most people are going to feel more connected with Obama. /shrugs I really doubt that this debate changes anyones mind, but once again my opinion.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
Soxbadger replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
I dunno maybe they have a point and this is going to be a "trap" election. You know the Democrats are going to over look this one because they are going to be focusing to much on the next one... Oh wait this isnt a sport and this is like the Super Bowl for Democrats. My guess is that if victory seems imminent you are going to see more Democrats come out of the woodwork so that they can all tell the great tale of"How I voted for the first black President." At least thats my opinion. -

I posted about this in the other thread, but I think that every 4 years having an extra day or half day off would not drastically hurt the economy. I dont think that every election is that important, but Presidential elections are and its especially important to note that every state has different laws regarding the right to vote and employment. Normal elections its irrelevant as most votes are for people who will only represent a state, thus since all voters who vote on Illinois senators, reps etc are bound by the same rules on voting its fair. But in the Presidential election its a national election. So if 1 state allows people 2 hours off to vote and another state offers no time to vote, the people in one state have different rights than the other even though its for a national election.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
Soxbadger replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
Sorry about the date haha I was just typing and not really thinking for some reason. Here are what I believe to be different laws on state voting rules: http://www.wildman.com/index.cfm?fa=public...4949F14613FBC9B Usually law firms are pretty reliable for statute information. About 20 states have no laws requiring employees to be allowed to vote. On to early voting, why is that a good thing? There is still a debate, there is still 3 weeks for things to change, for one of the candidates to do something to make me not want to vote for them or to vote for them. Why should I be forced to vote early just so that I can be sure that my vote works? Voting for elections is one of the most important things in America, no one should ever be forced to chose between their job and having the right to vote. The problem for many is that where they work and where they vote are not very close so they cant just leave work for an hour to vote. Ive always wondered why the Presidential vote is not a national holiday, or even a national half day. Sure not every election requires a day off, but once every 4 years American voters can get the day off to make sure they vote. Hell make it so that you get a receipt or something and if you dont have proof you voted the day isnt a paid day off etc. -

Why do people get upset when courts try and allow people to get to vote? It seems ridiculous that voting hours are the same hours that people are expected to work and that employers are not required to allow their workers time off to vote. Now if Nov 2 was a holiday where there was no work, I could see the argument that they had plenty of time to vote. -

I dont really watch wrestling but I was at Bound For Glory last night. It appeared Abyss got legitimately injured in the Monsters Ball as security had to help him out after the fire scene. -
This is just sad. Im 42 pages in and basically for 2 years Todd Palin followed some Wooten guy around tattling on him every time he did anything wrong in an attempt to get him fired. When the police department responded that some of the crimes were ridiculous (hunting moose with improper license) or things like driving a snow machine with an injured back (turned out he had drs permission) werent offenses a police officer could be terminated for they just basically fired the people they could fire until they got the result they wanted. As for it not being against the law, I guess its against the "statute" but then laws are technically "statutes". I doubt I read more though its kind of getting repetitive.

Damn Im just finding out south parks new season started? How many episodes have I missed?

I dont think there was a snub, he patted Obama on the back so it would then have been odd to snub him. Maybe his arm was hurting or something, I tried to watch the rest of the tape to see if McCain then shook hands with anyone else but I didnt see it. Judging from the tape it seems like McCain was actually acknowledging Obama.

You missed that millions of jobs are going to be created by making new nuclear plants. Its going to be like the Simpsons, everyone works in a nuclear plant. Its going to be awesome.

I really doubt that the Angels have any interest in trading Figgins for Konerko. Aging power hitters are pretty cheap and easy to come by, so not sure why the Angels are going to take Konerko off our hands when hes coming off a pretty bad season. My guess is that Thome and Konerko would bring slightly more than Ken Griffey cost, so thats Masset and Richar. Figgins had a .367 obp last year and .390 obp the year before. Some how I doubt the Angels are just going to give him away for old players who are on the downside of their career and are over paid.

Its odd that Floyd went away from the curveball against Upton. Upton has been hitting fastballs well, really strange. -
