  1. I just dont get what Brett Farve did wrong. I mean okay so he said he retired and then changed his mind, big deal. People change their mind every day, people unretire every single year in some sport. The difference is that for some reason the Packers felt that they were the victims because Farve needed some time to rest and think. Youre right on that count, its a million times worse. Jordan only would come back if certain conditions were met, Phil Jackson returning, Scottie Pippen etc. Favre (I spell it Farve because Im a bears fan and well its funny ) wanted to come back with no conditions. He did not even ask to be named the starter, all he wanted to do was play for the team that he spent his entire career busting his ass for. How exactly are those situations comparable? If Jordan walked into Krause's office the day before the season and said: "Hey Jerry I want to play." You think the Bulls say: "Oh sorry MJ we moved on." The answer is no, Michael immediately becomes the starter. I mean I can remember a certain year where Jordan unretired in the middle of the season. I guess the Bulls told him they didnt want him anymore because they were tired of his indecisiveness? (lol)
  2. lostfan, That article leaves out the most important part: Prior to the draft Farve wanted to see if the Packers wanted him back. The Packers made it clear they did not. Farve at first thought he could live with not playing football and being run out by the Packers. Eventually he realized he was not going to let them run him out of football. /shrugs
  3. Balta, I disagree that the Packers had to make any decisions before or after the draft. Who cares that they drafted Brohm with a late second rounder, it really does not change the dynamics of the team at all. Maybe they could have used that pick on something else to make the team better this year, maybe they would have drafted Brohm regardless. The pick of Brohm should have no impact on whether or not Brett Farve made the Packers better this year. Its not like they used the first pick over all, its not even like they used a first round pick (Rodgers), they used a late 2nd which is not exactly a huge investment that you have to stick with. This was all about Ted Thompson wanting to show the world that he is the man and the only way he could do that was to get rid of Farve. Look at last year, the Packers were not supposed to be going anywhere. Then all of a sudden they are in the NFC championship game and Farve is 2nd in MVP voting. All the media, all the fans say its all Farve, but you know Thompson thinks it was all him. As a bulls fan Ive seen something like this go down before, the only difference was Jordan would not play unless the Bulls did other things too (sign coaches bring back other players), here all Farve asked was just to be allowed back on the team. It was the Packers who did not want him back, and when he arrived they made it 100% clear that he was no longer wanted nor part of that team. The problem I have is that Farve would have missed 0 training camp, 0 preseason if the Packers let him back when he wanted to. Its not like game 4 he decided "Oh let me come back", he decided well before the season started. Its odd that the Jets a team who he has never played for can some how find a way to work them into the system, but the Packers who he spent basically his entire career with have "already moved on." It doesnt bother me, Im a Bears fan and this is good news for the Bears. I can remember before Farve played, the Packers were a joke. I can remember how Reggie White helped change the perception of the team and make it so free agents would actually sign there. I wonder what will happen now, who is going to want to play for a team that betrayed the player who gave them so much? http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/sto...mp;sportCat=nfl How does this fit into your argument? The NFL draft was on April 28... Green Bay Packers had 3 weeks before the draft, they just didnt want Farve back under any circumstances.
  4. Not exactly, there have been some whispers out of Packer land that Brett Farve and Ted Thompson have had a rocky relationship stemming from personal problems between the two. My opinion is the entire reason Brett Farve retired was he did not feel that the Packer management really wanted him back and he was just after last season where he lost in the NFC championship game. Instead of the Packers just telling Brett, "Hey take as much time as you need, youve been our entire franchise we can wait on you", they started to push him for a decision. When backed into the corner of "committing" or "retiring" he decided to say screw it and retired. Flash forward a few weeks/months and Farve actually having some time off to rest and get over the loss of the NFC Championship game now wants to play again. Instead of the Packers taking back the man who has defined their franchise, they basically tell him: "Oh you were gone a few months, we moved on." That is where the Green Bay Packers jumped the proverbial shark. Can you imagine before Jordan went to the Wizards him asking to be back on the Bulls, and the Bulls telling him they moved on? That he no longer is part of their plans? The Packers organization put themselves in this position when they decided that they cared more about putting "their guys" on the field than putting the best product on the field. I have not heard one person associated with Green Bay say that this was because Rodgers was better. Its as if they were punishing Farve for being unsure how much longer he could play at 38 years old. I guess after all the games Farve played for them, youd think that theyd have a little more loyalty to the guy.
  5. He played on the Sox opening day, I know I was there to see him. Maybe it was not clear, but I was comparing Griffey playing his first home game, to the White Sox playing their home opener (opening day for the Sox at home). CQ was on the field that day, although Ramirez was not.
  6. I guess my post should have said a "super star" starter sit on opening day. Pods had 2 good seasons and a lot of meh seasons.
  7. Now isnt the time to be hoping that Fields can turn it around while hes butchering 3rd base. He also hasnt been hitting in AAA. Not to mention Fields last year barely hit better than Uribe... .234 .284 .394 20 HR- Uribe .244 .308 .480 23 HR- Fields To each his own, but with Uribe in the infield the Sox have one of the better defensive infield in the games. With Fields that defense is drastically reduced.
  8. Probably the fact Uribe is the better defender and Josh Fields isnt exactly hitting a lot better... I mean Fields is hitting .182 with a .240 obp and a .227 slugging percentage. Uribe is hitting .218 with a .277 obp and a .351 slugging percentage. I guess the real question would be why should Fields be starting over Uribe?
  9. Really? Have you ever seen a starter sat on opening day for match ups? My guess is no because the bottom line is sports is a business, and entertainment is that business. There would have been way more people upset that Ken Griffey Jr. did not play last night, than he did play for the wrong reason. Its not about Brooks Boyer, its about the owners of the White Sox. Last I checked they were running a business, "goodwill" means something and playing Griffey last night was goodwill. Thousands of fans came to see him play, Sox werent going to let down their fans. Just my opinion, but I believe that under no circumstances Griffey was sitting yesterday.
  10. It wasnt sarcasm, there is no way Griffey does not start yesterdays game. In terms of marketing presence, Ken Griffey is the biggest name on the South Side in years. He was a legitimate superstar that brings fans to the game. I went to last nights game, I cant even imagine how the 35k+ fans would have reacted to Griffey not playing.
  11. Milkman, The last time the Sox tried to rebuild Id consider the "White Flag" trade. How did the fans react to that?
  12. Never been to many college football games? In Madison its a tradition that if some one wears an opposing teams shirt into the student section that their shirt is ripped off and thrown out of the stadium. There is also a tradition that a dead fish is thrown at them. In all my times at Bears games Ive actually felt that their fans were not that bad (Ive seen Cubs and Sox fans be way worse) so I guess im not exactly sure how this is a "Bears" thing. I cant imagine that a Red Sox fan would be welcomed in Yankee Stadium?
  13. Ive got an awesome idea, the Sox should start Griffey the first game he plays in Chicago regardless of pitcher because thats who the fans want to see. Some times the business of baseball isnt the same as winning in baseball.
  14. Griffey is in the middle of the pile wearing a helmet, his helmet falls off... Rewatch the tape again, but 17 is in the middle. (Edit) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...detmlb_chamlb_1 Using that link watch the "Nick Swisher walk off" replay. At 25 seconds you see "Gri" at 26 seconds you see a 17. Contreras (I believe its him) has his hand on Griffey's back.
  15. One of the best games Ive ever been to really amazing to see them come back.
  16. Yeah according to Packer Chatter, Farve left and there is a press conference at 4:30 pm. Just speculation as to what has happened and whats going on. Personally I think its hilarious and the Packers are going to end up regretting this move. Barring Rodgers coming in and taking the Packers to the playoffs there is going to be constant second guessing and no one will really get over the way that Farve was treated. People retire all the time in sports, they also unretire all the time. I cant imagine Bulls fans not have accepting Jordan back if he had wanted to play for the Bulls, I cant imagine the Bulls telling him that they "moved on" and he is no longer part of the plan. I think that this is a case of pride and ego getting in the way of making good decisions. Thompson and McCarthy want to show that they were the reason for the Packers doing well last year, not Farve, and as long as Farve is around they will never be able to prove their own merit. I think Farve felt that he was not as beloved by the management as he used to be and that was part of the reason that he retired. I also think that when he started to realize hed never play football again he figured he had a few seasons left and would rather play them out then think about what could have been. At the end of the day I believe that you dance with the one who brought you, and Farve brought the Packers to where they are. He deserves to play for them until he is no longer the best option and in all of this no one has ever once said that Rodgers would beat out Farve, just that they moved on and no longer wanted him to be the starter. As a Bears fan I cant help but be pleased because I really feel it will be difficult for Rodgers to succeed under these circumstances.
  17. Or BA can pinch run for him after he gets on base 3 out of 4 times.
  18. If the Sox cant beat another team lets beat each other!
  19. Hmm so could it have been the Sox were going to send some one to the Dodgers, but then they got Manny instead?
  20. I wonder if I knew your bride Jimbo! And congrats
  21. Masset seems like a pretty classy guy so nothing but the best for him.
  22. 1) Growing marijuana is possible as it is a weed and therefore can grow pretty much anywhere. The problem is that its hard to grow high quality marijuana without investing in the right materials. So while people may grow on their own, they would be growing plants that generally have lower THC content. 2) Depends on the user. Some people have extremely low alcohol tolerance but extremely high marijuana tolerance. They are different drugs and its just really impossible to compare. Even if marijuana is as bad as cigarettes health wise (which is unlikely), its not only savings, but the govt would be making money. The govt is losing sales tax on all that money, they are losing income tax on all that money, its just a black hole of nothing. Not only that, but they are expending money to prevent it. http://www.prohibitioncosts.org/mironreport.html Not sure who that guy is, but he estimates that the govt could make 6.2 bil in revenue off marijuana taxes.
  23. Wording on the article makes it hard to tell whether or not he posted $2500 (meaning the Bond was $25k) or the bond was $2500 meaning he had to post $250. Seems like a pretty weak case after reading it though.
