  1. Texsox, If the trial was about whether or not Bonds used steroids than I might care. As it is, Bonds is not being charged with using an illegal substance. I dont care that he used steroids because I believe many other MLB players used steroids at the same time and you can only compare Bonds to the players of his era. Football had a steroid era, but everyone seems to still love the Pittsburgh Steelers. I guess I just dont understand what Barry did so wrong. He cheated at a game, he cheated to better himself, and maybe you have never cheated at anything, never looked at some ones answers, stolen a line on a paper etc, but I myself am not that perfect. At the end of the day I just believe that Barry was not the worst player to step on the field, not even the worst player of his era. I think corking your bat is as bad, using vasoline, ky jelly, etc all equally as bad. But those are all just part of the game of baseball, slaps on the wrist. I dont care that Bonds cheated, because I expect every player to try and cheat. It was up to baseball to stop cheating, and they really didnt care. Now in retrospect after Sosa, Big Mac, Bonds etc made them millions they want to clean up their act.
  2. Okay Kevin Ryan the lead prosecutor of the Balco case is on now. He thinks Anderson didnt testify. And there is no evidence in the charging document, there are allegations. Unlike a grand jury, the federal govt now has to prove the allegations. And I think its more of an embarassment if they never get an indictment and bring charges. You make 0 of the shots you dont take, and i think at this point the fed knew if they wait any longer Bonds is unconvictable so they are taking their shot. (edit) I dont believe Bonsd didnt use roids, I think he did. Whether he knew or not is up for speculation. I think thatmany other players used roids and its a shame that only Bonds has to be held accountable. Wont it be funny if A-rod used roids.
  3. Civ Pro I hell no. Forum, venue, jurisdiction is ridiculous. Civ Pro II thats minimum contacts, that shoe case, class actions, etc? That one wasnt so bad. Linnwood, Nifong is a perfect example of why not to believe an indictment. He got an indictment against the Duke Lax players, so that must mean they are all guilty right? We will see but I would say 50/50 is giving the feds great odds in a very tough case. Unless they have some sort of surprise evidence, but at teh same time if they had that evidence why were they waiting?
  4. Linnwood, Well Lester Munson is a real attorney, he came and spoke at my law school. I am a real attorney, I have a pretty little license, degree, and card that lets me get in the Daley Center with out having to pass through metal detectors. What legal expert has exactly disagreed with any of the attorneys that have been on ESPN? I assume your an attorney since you can just dismiss people that actually passed the bar like Munson. Some one just brought up Vick. His indictment came out in less than 6 months. Bonds indictment took 4 years. Why? Simple, Anderson was told that he would be in jail until he told the feds what they wanted. Anderson finally told the feds that Bonds knew he did steroids. The fed is so hell bent on getting Barry that it is willing to go to trial basing its entier case on Anderson. Sorry but there is no smoking gun. There is no tape of Bonds saying : "I know the cream is roids" Its going to be Anderson on the stand going: "I told Barry it was steriods" And then it will be Barry saying "He never told me it was steriods" Then youll have the prosecutor argue you cant believe bonds cause hed do anything to save his career/life, youll ahve the defense attorney argue you cant believe Anderson because he would do anything to get out of jail, and clearly the fed was fishing for an answer because its to coincidental that they only released him once he gave the information they wanted to hear. Then it will go to a jury of San Francisco fans, and they will be asked to convict their hero. Yep I can see why you are all so confident in this case as compared to vick where they had a myriad of evidence and multiple flipper witnesses. I believe the terms are analagous and distinguishable.
  5. Did you even read the link: Indictments come at the drop of a hat. I guess the Black Sox were convicted no questions asked because they had an indictment against them. Oh wait no they didnt. http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1446555 A lot of people are going to be sad when Bonds is not guilty, whats funny is none of the legal experts on ESPN seem to think that its such a slam dunk. Most are saying its a hard conviction and very strange it took so long, and that relying entirely on Anderson may be risky.
  6. http://www.ellison-law.com/answers.html You can see what they tout a 95% rate, because that includes plea bargains. Most indictments come out in less than a year, the fact it took 4 years raises suspicion. And Barry Bonds is not anyone, he is like OJ. Which means those stats mean nothing, you are looking at 50/50 odds on a conviction if it goes to trial. No matter what the evidence, he will get up there and say he didnt know they were steriods. His trainer will get up there and say that Bonds knew they were steroids. Bonds lawyers will shred the trainer, and it will be a "who does the jury believe most". Some of those people are going to be Giants fans and feel hes a victim. /shrugs Thats just the reality, Bonds is not a normal defendant, all those convictions are not coming against attorneys like Bonds has. Lets see who is attorneys are, and what type of acquital rates they have. Im sure it wont be 5%
  7. Hmm Lester Munson just compared it to the Chris Webber perjury case. http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/whitecoll..._webber_pa.html Bonds really will be hurt by a $100k out of his pocket, should the fed even be able to win.
  8. Convict. We have things like the pound etc to take care of stray animals. If we let people just start shooting cats, dogs, etc, where does it end?
  9. This really means nothing, and indictment is no big deal and the fact it took this long to get one shows that the case is pretty weak. You have to remember that an indictment just means that a grand jury found probable cause to charge Bonds. Bonds was not able to present a defense, he was not able to cross examine witnesses, evidence that will not be available at trial can be used there. It took 4 years to get the indictment, if that is any indication of the speed of the process, Bonds will be retired before this ever gets to court. Its not like an indictment means Bonds is in jail, it just means that the Fed can actually charge Bonds with perjury and obstruction of justice, and then start the proceedings in a real court, where the rules of evidence will apply, and where Bonds will most likely be found not guilty, or receive some sort of slap on the wrist penalty. So this really proves nothing as they most likely used tons of evidence that will not be able to be used in the real trial. (Edit) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12289760/ Now remember the prosecutor in this case was eventually disbarred and all charges thrown out. But they still were able to get a grand jury indictment. Indictments are just procedural, its almost impossible to screw them up.
  10. Do I need the game to join? My laptop still is down, but I could just do line ups etc of a team.
  11. I was going to list 2 really horrible ones: 1984 and Brave New World. 1984 is really really bad as a movie, i felt almost unwatchable.
  12. I just disagree. If the Sox are willing to trade for Cabrera, Id bet my last dollar that they feel that have better than a 75% chance to sign him long term. Otherwise why would you ever trade your whole farm system for a 1 year player? It makes no sense, and it doesnt follow White Sox logic either. Generally if they trade for a player they sign him long term.
  13. Given Ozzie and Cabrera's relationship, I believe its some what like Freddy a few years back, the Sox know he would be willing to sign a fair deal with us.
  14. It has not happened in baseball, but it has happened in football. Emmitt Smith while under contract with the Cowboys sat out the first 4 games of a season while he was in his prime. Its not often, but will A-Rod really bite the bullet if no great offers come.
  15. I was just going off the fact that Rivals didnt ever rate us preseason high. I looked back and was surprised that according to Rivals: 2003 not in top 25 2004 not in top 25 (not even in considered section) 2005 not in top 25 2006 25th Hence why I said "Its the first time Wisconsin is getting national recognition" because it will be the first time ever Wisconsin has appeared in back to back years. And they arent even top 25 this year, they are lucky it was added to 30. I more meant that Wisconsin players get really under valued because they are not signing with what many scouts consider a premier program, or program that gets sexy players. But I still stand by the fact that Bo has much more talent now than he did even 2 years ago. The depth is amazing compared to where it was. I mean they have a Mr. Iowa on the bench, that was unimaginable 2-3 years ago.
  16. Ive always believed in Javy. He has the best stuff of our staff, and I really dont see why the fact that he now has stability and consistency gets over looked. He was good in Montreal, he started of as an All-Star with the Yankees. A lot of players have gone south in the Bronx and never came back (Steve Sax). You cant blame him for Chris Young, he didnt make the deal. Blame the people who thought Brian Anderson was the next big thing, and in reality a lot of people on this board thought Anderson was going to do big things as well. Some times you make a bad decision, but why are we punishing a guy that had nothing to do with it? Javy pitched well to start his first season, he lost some tough games and then started to give up runs. By the end of the season he started to turn it around and this year he was pretty good. He signed a fair deal with us, has shown that he wants to be a White Sox player, and yet people constantly want to knock on him. What really has he done thats so bad?
  17. I think this is the first time Wisconsin has ever had any real national recognition for recruiting. Going to be nice to see Bo Ryan with higher level talent.
  18. Of course its conjecture, but thats what happens when a play that results in 7 points is blatantly missed. I dont really see how you could argue that OSU getting the ball there would not have changed the game, but Im pretty sure that regardless of wehther or not it changed the outcome, the game would most likely have been played quite differently. Instead of it being 7-7 immediately, OSU dodges a bullet and Illinois remains down. As I said though, you cant complain about it because in the end the blame is with Tressel.
  19. Im not an Illinois fan or OSU fan, but that play changed the game. If OSU gets the ball back at that point it would have entirely changed the game. But, Tressel should be blamed for not calling a time out. Illinois did not rush to the line of scrimmage, the play was replayed on TV prior to the snap, and if he calls a time out they probably review the play and over turn it.
  20. Hey they should be lucky, I bet if they were being given Red Dog or Keystone they might not even want to drink at all. Ah college frat parties, where you find out what truly is the cheapest worst beer.
  21. I read all the books as well, Glass Elevator was my favorite, but then again never made into a movie. Adaptations of James and the Giant Peach, Witches etc were not as good. I just thought that the movie of Willy Wonka was as good as the book, even though it is different.
  22. I doubt many people are after Meyer when he won the NC last year. If Zook won the NC, I dont think he gets fired from Florida either.
  23. I think the movie and book Willy Wonka (original movie) is one where both the book and movie were equally good.
  24. Weeks was sent down to AAA last season and then recalled. After his recall he went on to be very successful. But at the same time, the fact he had to be sent down after already playing in MLB for a season suggests he is no longer the cant miss spect he was once considered. I dont think the Brewers would trade him, does not mean I wouldnt ask though.
  25. Well Kenny could want a 3b because he thinks he will trade Fields for cabrera, let Crede play 3b this year, and then have a spect to take over in the future. Also id love to get Weeks, I said that in another thread.
