Right, they dont care that Kavanaugh isnt qualified. All they care about is their team winning.
-
Republicans started this nonsense with Garland. Its an election year according to Republicans we should let the people decide.
-
Didnt Grasserly say they could have gone to her to do an interview? Seems pretty selective who the blame is being placed on. It all boils down to Republicans trying to rush this through and not caring about the qualifications. It they cared theyd be looking into whether Kavanaugh lied under oath and taking enouh time as necessary. Merrick Garland wasn't given a vote for over 8 months, why are we rushing now?
-
I think the goal posts for a judge have always been being honest under oath. Maybe that isnt something you care about, but to me its a really low bar. /shrugs There are plenty of conservative judges who dont lie. But if Republicans are fine with perjury, that's their call. If roles were reversed id say the Democrat nominee should step down. Supreme Court Justice should be about the law, not the teams. If they cant follow the law, then they shouldn't be a Justice. Again feel free to disagree, its the Republican parties character who is at stake.

Well that fell apart quickly looks like multiple cases of perjury by Dr Ford. Tell me how this exonerates Kavanaugh from lying under oath. Oh wait it doesnt. My argument against Kavanaugh doesnt rely on Ford, so its interesting you keep bringing her up but failing to address the real issue which is Kavanaugh's testimony. How many posts can you make where you avoid the issue of Kavanaugh's perjury?
-
To sum up your post, you dont care Kavanaugh lied under oath. Because your so angry that stories came out late and so Republicans should give out a lifetime appointment to an unqualified person to teach Democrats a lesson. So how should Deomcrats treat Republicans over Merrick Garland? He by all accounts was a highly qualified judge who didnt break the law or lie under oath. Arguably more respected than Kavanaugh... Republicans didnt even give him a vote. So how angry are you about Republicans? I assume much more angry because Kavanaugh at least got a vote even though he likely committed a felony. Garland got nothing. Oh yeah you just care about your team, you dont care about a potential felon being a Supreme Court justice. /shrugs Thats why no one takes your argument seriously.

Right but for the sake of argument Im willing to say that even if somehow Dr. Ford's version is proven false, Kavanaugh still disqualified himself. And I think that really is the point here. She isnt up for SC justice, he is. He had to prove himself qualified and he failed. Lying under oath should be immediate disqualification, and I cant imagine the Republican's who are defending him would say its okay to lie under oath. And had this been a Democrat candidate, I have to imagine there would have been hundreds of hours of investigation to try and see if the candidate even lied on the slightest detail. So any other conclusion is basically just cheering on your team. There are many qualified candidates for SC, if the Republicans and their base had any care for the court or for our society they would be demanding Kavanaugh step down or be voted out.

There is a huge difference. One of them is about to be a Justice, the other is a regular person. Lets try and convict them both for perjury. Why are the Republicans so afraid to go after Kavanaugh, who most reasonable people believe lied under oath? Why are you protecting this guy so much? He lied that disqualifies him. I get that his past is embarrassing. But so what, he would have been confirmed had he admitted to being a drunk idiot when he was younger. All he had to say was: "yes I used to drink when I was younger. Yes I probably drank too much, maybe even forgot some minor events. But I never drank so much that I would forget trying to rape a girl." He wasnt willing to say that. And if he cant be honest, he cant be a Supreme Court Justice. Would you want a liberal judge who blatantly lied appointed?

The fact that they stopped letting the prosecutor ask Kavanaugh questions as soon as she started to zero in on a day when the assault could have occurred should tell you the same. Had they wanted to know the truth, Graham wouldnt have given a speech for his 5 minutes, he would have asked questions. Had they cared about the truth, Grasserly wouldnt have interrupted Blumenthal and basically helped Kavanaugh avoid questions. And "no case" isnt the bar for a Supreme Court Justice. No one is suggesting Kavanaugh could be convicted for sexual assault. What I am suggesting is Kavanaugh lied under oath, that should disqualify him from being a Justice. All he had to do was tell the truth about his drinking. But he lied and the Republican's attempted to cover for him. Any objective person would come to that conclusion. Thats why the American Bar Association immediately called for an investigation. Because lawyers lying under oath is a big deal, let alone potential Supreme Court Justices. You can keep avoiding the issue, but the issue is the perjury/lying. The entire point of the hearing was to see if Kavanuagh would be honest, he failed. IIf the Republicans cared about the situation at all, theyd have immediately voted him down and moved on. There are many qualified judges who they could submit, who wouldnt have to lie under oath to be confirmed. You seem to not care about the perjury, which is astounding because that is the entire issue. Kavanugh lied, why would I trust anything he says? Ford may or may not have lied, but she isnt about to be a Justice. And if she lied, they should prosecute her. Just like they should prosecute Kavanaugh. Put them both in jail for both lying if it happened.
-
You do realize Ford isnt being nominated for the Supreme Court? Who cares if she lied, all Kavanaugh had to do was tell the truth. When he lied under oath, he disqualified himself. The only reason he would lie is because he is trying to cover something up. What other reason would he lie about drinking?
-
You have no idea what Republicans would or would not do. From what I can tell there is nothing to suggest Republicans care at all about perjury, sexual assualt etc. Who cares about timing? If they cared so much about the integrity of the Supreme Court, theyd have pulled his nomination immediately after he testified. They clearly dont. So the idea that somehow they would have done the right thing is completely unsupported by facts. Last I checked the Republican's have no standards or ethics, lest we forget they refused to even give a vote on Garland because there was an election 8 months in the future. Now when its their pick, they are trying to jam it barely less than a month from an election. Their hypocrites, and anyone who thinks for themselves can see it.

Why does the author of the post not mention the fact that privacy laws exist and doctors are usually weary of giving out patient information? And the reason he started a new thread is because he wants to avoid the issue of Kavanaugh lying under oath. Committing perjury over something as innocent as drinking, makes me believe he is willing to lie about things that are far more serious. Im pretty sure judge Kavanaugh would agree that if you have a witness who perjures about one thing, it casts doubt on their entire testimony. I mean why lie unless you have something to hide?

And Im pretty sure the amount of restaurants within walking distance is smaller, not to mention not as many entertainment venues, museums, etc. I can completely understand why people would move to Indiana. But to many people "Its still Indiana", and that is kind of a no go. If one day they became more progressive and didnt vote people like Pence into office, maybe I could see more people give it a shot. But you just cant really put a price tag on that. We have some what different political philosophies, so at the end of the day, I may have to pay more to ensure I live where mine are accepted. The reality is that most of those places have high price tags, I think Ive identified 2-3 states where Id consider living and in those areas they are as costly (if not more costly) than Chicago,
-
I know, I could have gotten a mansion for what I paid in Chicago. But, I didnt even want to move to the suburbs, let alone to Indiana. I like living in the city, I like the public transportation, being able to walk to the lake, walk to restaurants etc. That life isnt for everyone, but the fact that rent prices keep going crazy and that more buildings are being built, seem to suggest that other people are interested in it as well. Thats why I think its going to be interesting what happens. Rauner really screwed up Illinois bad. Nobody likes paying taxes, but eventually you have to generate revenue to pay for expenses. I hope that Pritzker will open the door to some other money making avenues such as legalized marijuana and gambling on sports.
-
I like the idea that she should have trusted the Republicans. They are trying to push through a nominee who clearly lied under oath. If he was just a regular attorney who didnt have the President/Senate trying to cover for him, that could potentially get his law license suspended, let alone disqualifying him from being a Supreme Court Justice. I wonder in the future if other people lie under oath if this laissez faire attitude will continue. Maybe just get rid of perjury all together, because from what I can tell Republican's think its no big deal.
-
If you want good things, you have to pay for them. I gladly pay higher taxes to live in Chicago versus Indiana. Well see what happens, but anything is better than Rauner.
-
I think what happened is that one of her friends called the Intercept and told the story. They then started investigating which lead to the the letter ultimately being turned over. There were a few people who knew the story.
-
Jenks, We are talking about the Supreme Court, not any judge in America. The guy is already at the second highest tier of judges in the country (and from what I can tell no one is even suggesting that he be removed from that position), but I think we deserve a Supreme Court justice who isnt going to commit perjury. That really isnt a high bar for Supreme Court Justice.
-
My understanding (and I could be wrong), is that they dont actually need approval to take it to the Senate. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/brett-kavanaugh-vote-no-senate-judiciary-committee-what-next-supreme-court-confirmation-a8559996.html

Flake isnt voting no. Flake was going to push it through, he got contacted by reps from other senators who said they may say no. And even if Flake said no they could have taken it out of the committee. (this is just my guess its not fact)
-
Yep, I think they are worried that 2 Republicans may defect without the investigation.
-
Reading between the lines, I think Murkowski or Collins may have said they could be "no" if they dont get the investigation.
-
Do you think lying under oath should preclude someone from being a Supreme Court Justice?
-
You do the best you can.
-
Do you think Kavanaugh lied? Or at minimum purposefully answered in a way that was deceiving.
