  1. A very similar thing happened at Wisconsin with a store called the Shoebox, although not sure if tickets were involved or just getting merchandise free. Anyways I think a couple of game suspensions came down, nothing to major. It was pretty funny though as the football players would walk around wearing t-shirts that said "Shoebox" and talking about how they were getting shoes etc for free. Most of the time these things are not very discrete.
  2. If his b**** is that no team should have better than 10-1 odds statistically because no team has better odds than those he listed, the article has merit. But if the b**** is only towards the Sox, and some how the Yankees at 3.4-1 makes sense, the article loses all merit. Its called betting on every other team or "betting the field" where you chose to bet on the longshots, and of course the odds are better when you have 31 teams with a chance to win instead of 1. I feel dumber for reading this article, and I question why he thinks he knows more than the Vegas sports books.
  3. Steff, I agree that its most likely Jose's statements were true. The problem for a celebrity though, is even if they are untrue, they have to prove that Jose knew that they were untrue when he made the statement. I just saw some one, I think it was Jason, post he hoped he didnt get sued. And I wanted to say that it would be extremely unlikely give the law in that area.
  4. Steff, I was just saying that if some how a lawyer was able to craft a way to make Soxtalk liable for the statements of its posters, that even then they would further have to prove that the posters or Soxtalk, knew that the rumors were false. Its the same reason when Canseco's book came out a bunch of non-lawyers started saying how Canseco was going to be sued, etc. And there was to my knowledge never even a complaint filed against him. Its very hard for a public figure to be defamed.
  5. Well if there are any lurkers who want a poster to be their new favorite, I think that Soxbadger will be the one for you. Also I wouldnt worry about any legal ramifications for the thread, etc. Both Clemens and Damon are public figures, meaning that they would have to prove "malice" or actual knowledge that what they said about Clemens is false.
  6. Damn I remember that thread, now I gotta see what i wrote. Some SI guy could of read it and now be stealing my thoughts.
  7. Im glad YASNY brings a different perspective. Its much different for a Sox fan who prior to last year might be thinking they would never see a World Series win in their life time.
  8. Its basically the end of the world. A website where there is no interaction, just polls. Not to say I dont hate the idea, it just makes me laugh. I also signed up but what is the point of guessing now when most of the polls are open for 20-30 days? Probably will be better when some real sports are on, not just Women's basketball and the NBA. You know its a slow sports night when ESPN is running WNCAA highlights, I think women's sports deserves its own network. Some may say that is sexist, I say its what the people want.
  9. Well that is why Bohannon will be a really big addition for the Badgers. One of the biggest problems at the end of this year was that they had no designated 3-point shooter. In years past they had Chambliss, etc, who would hurt people with the 3. Once that part of the game started to fade this year, teams were able to triple team Tucker and everything just started to get out of whack. Butch needs to grow up, and use his size. Steitsma should help, as when he is on the floor Butch does not have to play a true center or post position and can do what he does best, shoot the open three, create space, and work in the swing offense. This was just a wierd season for the Badgers. Prior to the academic problems, they looked really good. Then they looked really bad. And finally they ended as an okay team. Ryan seemed not as good as finding match ups and often seemed to rely on the "throw the ball into Tucker and see what happens" method. Next year the Badgers barring injury/academic problems, will have a much deeper and talented team. This year they just ended up relying on guys like Gullickson, who is a nice player and hard worker, but just not talented enough. Also Krabbenhoft should get to play a 2 guard more, and not have to get the defensive assignment of a guarding some guy that is like 6 inches taller.
  10. Okay who wants to bet that even a coachless Indiana would still get better recruits than ISU? That article is some what silly. When you are not even the clear #1 in your state, how can you start saying that a team that has such a basketball history as Indiana will be impacted at all? I guess its just because they are looking for a coach, but last time I checked it wont make that much of a difference if Indiana hires a coach today, tomorrow, or some time in May-June. Wierd article.
  11. Wisconsin should be fine next year. They get back 2 players lost to Academic Ineligibility gain some good recruits who will fit holes (2 guards 1 who can dribble, 1 who can shoot), and bring back everyone not named Ray "I missed about 20 shots in the last 2 games" Nixon. The question is whether Gavinski is going to redshirt as Wisconsin will have a plethora of big men.
  12. Nah because most likely the guy he is going to be used over would of been just as bad. Who knows learning how to throw strikes is much easier than learning how to hit.
  13. Thornton is as good as you are going to get for Borchard. I think the trade made the same sense for both teams; White Sox need a lefty, Thornton is a lefty with upside and control problems. Mariners need a hitter, Borch is a hitter with potential but strike out and over all hitting problems.
  14. Some one elses trash is anothers treasure. I think the Sox will give Thornton a shot at the MLB roster for the first few weeks, see if change of scenery does him any good. As for Borchard, it sucks to get nothing for him, but it was hard to trade a guy that we gave so much money to. I hope that he can get his shot at the Majors.
  15. Zona scored 46 points. There is no way Wisconsin will ever win a game where some one scores 92 points.
  16. Best situation for me really. BC wins which means I get the points, but they have to play 2 OT game going into Sunday's match up.
  17. I couldnt pick UWM because they lost to every top 50 team they played. But at the same time the Big 12 was terribly over rated, not sure how OK got a 6 seed. The seeding was pretty horrible this year. And BC to the Final Four is as crazy as Wisconsin to the Final 4, and Im the only one picking that.
  18. Eventhough I picked BC in this game, I have to agree: Go Pacific
  19. All fear the mighty badger. Even your name pays homage to the great Wisconsin. (Anyways I know in reality its unlikely for Wisconsin to get past them, but hey the key word is "unlikely". We wouldnt be fans if we didnt have some faith, and if all the number 1's won all the time there wouldnt be much excitement. So until for the next few weeks, until Wisconsin loses, I will not be rational, I will be a fan.)
  20. Actually I never said Bonds did or did not take steriods. My argument was "even if Bonds took steriods it wont matter", and I stand by that argument. If you want to go read through my posts and find a statement where I say "Bonds never took steriods" feel free. You wont. I made many statements on the fact that no prosecutor will touch the case, that baseball wont suspend him, etc. So no I have not backtracked, you just actually took the time to read my post instead of jumping to conclusions about my statements.
  21. Wisconsin to the final 4. What a f***ed up draw, but of all the #1 seeds Nova is probably the most beatable for the Badgers. And if we can get past them Minnesota is basically home court for the Big Red Machine.
  22. No problemo, Jets got the player they have wanted since the draft began.
  23. Booo I asked for a PM when it was my turn. Anyways the Jets select: D'Brickshaw Ferguson D'Brick is heading to "the bricks"
