Bears To Target Randle El
Soxbadger replied to nitetrain8601's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Its pretty clear the question is, Why do you think Leinart will transfer better to the pros than Young? or What makes you think that Young will not be successful? I did not think I had to spell it out and figured that my 2 statements and their divergent answers would give you a chance to make an argument of why you believe what you do. The position seems to be: Young wont make it in the NFL, Leinart will. I actually think the opposite. Leinart scares me, a lot. He does not have the arm strength, although he has pretty good accuracy. His drive also scares me, turning down going pro last year so he could stay around USC and screw around? That does not seem to be the make up of a champion. Its one thing if you stay to win a national title, or stay to win the heisman, or if there is something left to prove. Leinart just scares me like old Florida QB's, play in a good system with great talent will get you far in college, but will the pro game catch up? -

I think Young had the better passing game. He threw 0 interceptions, and it can be argued if not for Leinart's int USC would of won the game. He threw an int while his team was in a position to get no worse than 3 points and take a touchdown lead. I mean the fact is when you put together all of their stats, Young blew Leinart out of the water. The question I have is: Young was a good scrambler in college, good qb in college, but NFL defense's are going to catch up to him, eventhough he played in a far better defensive conference than Leinart. Leinart was a good qb, on the best offensive team in the nation, playing in one of the worst defensive conferences in college, yet he will have no problem transitioning with his weak arm. Unfortunately there are no YAC stats that I can find for that game or any other game, but I have a feeling that throwing passes to Bush and Jarret gave him quite an advantage. -

In this situation it does have to do with race. Leinart and Young went head to head, Young clearly was the better qb. He was the better passer, the better runner, the better field general. Yet no one questions Leinart, and everyone sees Young as the black guy who can run but cant throw the ball. Ill let Young vindicate me on the field. -

He said he had the same "mechanics". I personally dont see anything wrong with Youngs mechanics, and I think he has a good arm when he needs to use it. As for consistency through out his entire career, generally I look for improvement instead of consistency. Young improved immensely at QB, and still had the same spark in the running game. Nitetrain, If Young was white, no one would be questioning his ability to throw the ball. -

Ive been watching Grossman since he was playing under Spurrier. I think Young could be a better QB than Grossman day 1. I know you think Young will bust, there just does not seem to be any reason to that statement. Here are the projected top 3 QB's stats from last year: CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT 283 431 3815 65.7 8.85 67 28 8 17 157.74 212 325 3036 65.2 9.34 75 26 10 13 163.95 273 462 3073 59.1 6.65 47 21 9 23 126.07 Can you decide which one is Young, Leinart, or Cutler just off the numbers? I think you would be suprised. -

Rex Grossman is not the reason we lost against the Panthers. Rex Grossman is not the reason that we did not get to play the Seahawks. If the defense didnt play like high school bench warmers, Rex Grossman is a hero. Blind hate does not make for a good analysis. -

Well I was supporting you by saying that Young is better than Grossman, or "should be" because its impossible with 100% accuracy to call any player. Anyways, you have some strong opinions, but your opinion does not mean its true. Ive seen you on other boards talk up Cutler like hes the messiah. I just see Cutler more as a Boller. Time will tell. -

Ive consistently been a huge Grossman supporter, but please do not hurt your credibility by saying youd rather have Grossman over Young. And to say scouts think he is the 3rd best qb, well scouts thought Ben Roeth was the 3rd best QB in that draft so I guess it must mean its true. Or when scouts thought Tom Brady was a second day player. Young should > Grossman Grossman is > Orton Grossman could be > Young. He just has to show it on the field, people who almost win a heisman as a soph have talent, he just needs to step up. -

Why do you think Young wont be able to make it in the pros? I mean lets compare Vick and Young: Young is huge, 6'5 233. Vick is small for a QB, 6'0 200. Vick played 2 seasons at the College level, Young has 4 seasons under his belt. Vick has always been a run first pass second player, Young is a pass first run second player. Young has an amazing ability to hit his check down wr's at this point in his career, Vick almost always either looked deep or ran the ball. The better comparison is Mcnair, a big qb who can run the ball if necessary. That is why many have the Titan's selecting Young. Im not going to call Vick a bust either, he is still raw and young. QB is one of the hardest positions to play at the NFL level, and Vick still could learn the position. Vick is only 26 years old, meaning that he has plenty of time to develop. Im sure plenty of people thought another Young, Steve, was terrible because he did nothing in his first 8 years as a pro (2 in usfl). But now he is in the NFL Hall of Fame and considered one of the top QB's of his generation if not of all time. Young was 30 years old in 1991, Vick is 4 years younger and his stats blow Young's away at the same age. Im not saying Vick will turn into Young, but you just can not say a 26 year old with all the talent in the world cant make it. -

Young isnt going to bust, he is a good QB, and he is nothing like Vick. The only way you can say Young is like Vick is if you never watched Vick play in college. Also, Im not really big on Radel El, and think it would be a mistake to over pay for him when there are equal wr's that will be available in 3-4 rounds. -
The USC tight end Byrd has looked really good.

The difference between a team shooting bad and a team having good defense is which team you are rooting for. As for the Big 10, I think it still is Wisconsin's to lose. I already had figured they were going to lose to OSU, and losing to ND State really could be one of the best things that happens to them all season. They started to become complacent at home, just thinking that they were unbeatable there. \ What I dont get is how the MSU fan does not give the Wisconsin team respect? Wisconsin thrashed MSU at full strength, and their last 2 losses have been shorthanded (down Stietsma and Landry) and 1 was away at a tough OSU. Wisconsin shot the worst percentage against ND that I have really ever seen. Hopefully they get on a roll before the Illini come in, otherwise Wisconsin's season could slip away really fast. Its just hard to tell at this point what the impact is of the lost players. -

Panchero's burritos are good. And winning on the road is never easy. -
Travis Johnson was never that dominant in college. He is a rookie and playing on a bad defense. Not to mention the Texans ran a 3-4 right? Which means Johnson has to play out of position as he is more suited to be a 4-3 dt.
-
Edge and Champ way down the list. Its just hard to project High School players. I mean Courtney Brown was supposed to be a sure bet in the Pros, but never has reached his potential showing that even the jump from college to NFL is often hard to predict. Alot of good players are in the middle of the pack, Thomas Jones, Backus, even Plaxico. And Ron Dayne was 44 as a FB? Also Coles as rb lol.

Wimbley will be a nice player for some one, generally cant go wrong with FSU front seven. Unless they are named Wadsworth. Damn was that guy awesome in college, just goes to show.

MSU lost to Wisconsin, who lost to ND State. Basically extension of loss. -
That more has to do with the "agent" than with the player. You see the agent has to try and get the best deal, so that they can go out and get more clients. That is why it takes so long to get draft picks signed, eventhough the basic outline for what the pick is worth is already out there. It is up to the player to tell their agent that they want to get into camp, that their career is what the agent should be worrying about. There are just no underpaid top 10 draft picks, and when a player holds out for a pittance, that is what $1mil is when you are talking about $30mil (or 3% of the contract) you have to question their desire and want to be there. I believe that had Cadillac been drafted by the Bears he would of signed for less than Benson, because getting the biggest contract was not as important as being the best rb.

There are other sources of revenue than just tickets. Its practically impossible to predict how the acquisition of 1 player will increase the revenue of a team. On the other hand there is a business term called "goodwill", and some times that can be worth more than anything.

Larry Johnson is a freak example where his predecessor completley destroyed his value. LJ came out of PSU on the backs of Ki Jana and Enis, 2 very high picks who busted out. When LJ came out, people could not get that out of their head. As for Benson, sure we can put him in the "we shall see category", but that goes against all the reasons why the Bears drafted a RB in the first round last year. I can remember the pitch, about how RB's make the most impact their first year and how RB is the easiest transition from college to the NFL. Benson has set himself back. I have no sympathy for supposed "Low ball" offers that are in the range of $30mil. I have not seen anything from him since he joined the Bears besides a suspect "I should be starting attitude". I think Benson can still turn the corner, he just needs to dedicate himself and realize that he is talented, but he is not so talented that he does not need to work. Also LJ will be paid less than Benson next season, and he did not feel that he was being "low balled". Benson is making more money than most people will make in their entire lifes, yeah its a business but businesses do not always make the most profit maximizing plan. Some times the outside costs are so great that the money just does not matter.

I didnt get to see the game, but its a pretty bad loss. I just hope that they use it as motivation, the only good thing is it does not affect the Big 10 picture. -
Ive seen this value chart used by other sites, its getting old now but atleast its some sort of a guideline. Draft Value Chart

It was a joke. Not to mention if you took a rb, it would be the most insane pick for the Bears ever.

Jets are looking to trade down to a pick between 10-15. And I feel sorry for the Bears With the 26 selection the Bears take Michael Hart running back Michigan. yikes
