  1. You run on that play when the bottom of the order is coming up. Not when the tieing run in your 3rd hitter is coming up. It just makes no sense. SB
  2. Its given away free every morning at El stations. Also Im glad that the readers of these boards enjoy the Economist on salmon paper, but I do enough reading that at 6:30 am I just want to know the facts. SB
  3. I guess people fail to realize the Tribune and Red Eye have the exact same stories, just they are shortened. More like the cliff notes than anything. And free is free, when they give you a free paper, you just read it, play Sudoku and move on. SB
  4. I think of any team, the White Sox have the highest liklihood of adding an impact player. Whether it be Griffey, or some one who completely shocks us, KW will be as aggressive or the most aggressive GM. That is all you can ask at this point. SB
  5. Sox take 2 of 3 even with out 2 of their top pitchers starting. Looks good to me. SB
  6. You do not bring Jenks in to close at Yankee stadium in the 10th inning. Jenks will get his chances against teams that are not made up of multiple MVP's. SB
  7. I hate ignorant people. Chacon since coming from the NL has an era of 1.42, k/9 of around 6, and a whip of 1.21. His starts were against Cleveland, Angels, and Sox. Each game he k'd 4, so there goes the conspiracy that Sox did worse against Chacon than others. Small has an era of 3.15 and a whip of 1.30. He has only given up 3 er in 2 starts, 1 against the Rangers and the other against the Twins. Its not like these guys have been rocked, they have been good. Generally the first time a hitter sees a pitcher it is in the pitcher's advantage. These 2 guys have not pitched against many Sox hitters. Seems like nothing more than the pitchers beating the hitters, which is what everyone always says. Good pitching > good hitting. SB
  8. How can you compare 2000 and 2005? An offensive team slumped in 2000 and we lost. If our pitching slumps in the postseason we will lose. The difference is this year we are dependent on pitching (notice how the highest paid offense in the league has not even outscored us in this series), not offense. The constant complaining about offense is ridiculous, thats not our team. If you want to watch a consistent offense, go watch the Rangers, Red Sox, etc. Then cry when they get beat by teams like the A's, White Sox, and Angels. Its your choice, but with out paying over $100mil you can not have it both ways. SB
  9. Wisconsin is the best imo (I graduated from there). For me it was really down to Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. I really did not like Illinois for a variety of reasons, and it was mostly my parents wanting me to go there because the price tag is cheaper. I never considered Marquette, and just know what people at Wisconsin who were from Milwaukee said about it, which I doubt means much as they are not going to say something good about a school that they chose not to go too. The reality is, most colleges are fun and you will have a good time. If money is no object then just go with the one you like the best. I did not want to go to a small school, or a school that did not have a quality football program, etc. Even though they should come secondary to education, they were what was important to me. I also liked the Wisconsin campus, and the lifestyle etc. And Ap Euro is senior year now, it was sophmore year when I took it back in the day. SB
  10. The old deadline for joining was after his birthday. Thus his parents could register him for kindergarten at age 4. SB
  11. The coolest offer I ever received was to study at the University of Cambridge in England when I was entering High School. Unfortunately in High School I spent more time having fun than studying and never was invited back. hehe SB
  12. I turned 18 in June before my freshman year. ::shrugs:: It means you have a late birthday. What I dont get is how your contemplating U of Chicago at the same time as those other schools. Generally if you are UC material you are looking at ivy league or full ride scholarship to Big 10. SB
  13. Ill try and watch both to the best of my ability. Eventhough its preseason, its the 1st game in almost half a year. SB
  14. The Bullets changing to Wizards happened way after the Colt 45's (Astros). SB
  15. We are not one of the 5 teams that Griffey could be traded to with out waiving his clause. Griffey stated nothing explicitly about not going to the White Sox, except for spring training in Arizona. Not sure why people read so much into these articles. SB
  16. How many World Series have the A's played in since Canseco left? People worry about our pitching staff, imagine if you were throwing out mostly first and second year guys. They may have all the talent in the world, but outside of Zito none of them have even seen pressure. SB
  17. Just to echo some others, the only way he can be charged with perjury is if they can get proof that he did steriods prior to the hearing. If I am under oath and I swear I never kicked Sosa, and then after the trial I go and kick Sosa, there would be no perjury. Because at the time of the trial, I was telling the truth. This suggests that he was lieing, but with out any hard facts, and with Angelo's law firm behind him, I doubt the DA is going to be investigating. SB
  18. I believe that KW put out good offers, if not the best offers for many players. The reality is, barely anyone got traded. Of the people that did get traded, most of them were no better fits for our team than we already have. Nothing can be done if there are no moves to be made. SB
  19. I could see Arizona wanting Marte, and we were willing to trade him for Burnett. SB
  20. Maybe bullpen guy to explain the Adkin's promotion? For Tracy that is. SB
  21. Yeah if I make the statistical category small enough any player can be in the top 10 in anything. He's average, the reason the Cubs needed him is their OF is below average. Not sure how you can say he is so great, he statistics are pretty meh. SB
  22. I count that as tied for 16th in the NL, around 30th for the entire league. The top 10 in the NL all have obp over .390. We shall see, but I do not think hed start on the Sox. SB
  23. Lawton is pretty average. Outside of his .380 obp, he has nothing to really make up for his poor defense. Not many good teams would have a place for him. SB
  24. Lawton is an upgrade for a 3rd place team, not a first place team. SB
