  1. Why would Bonds be reading a Ron Kittle book? If he does not sign autographs for white people, I doubt he reads books written by the same white people. Anyways I think its hyperbole, and I doubt Bonds is a racist. SB
  2. If the A's dont eat any of Chavez's salary, than I think at this point you do not trade for him. I think the White Sox could shop a very similar offer around and get a much cheaper player who is doing better this year (Blalock, Hillenbrand, etc). I am a huge Chavez fan, but $10mil a year is just to much for the Sox to invest unless they are going to raise the payroll next year considerably. SB
  3. How much of Chavez's contract do you think the A's will eat. The more they are willing to take, the better the prospects. SB
  4. When Koskie comes back Toronto might be looking to trade Hinske or Hillenbrand. SB
  5. Regardless of how he has played this year, its shocking to see a player who did so well last year treated so poorly. Who's scoreless inning streak were we riding last year? He has lost his control a little, and quite frankly almost every game Ive seen him got rocked the ump has been calling a tight strike zone. Thats no excuse, but the margin for error is so small in the majors that I think Shingo just needs to refine his stuff and he will be effective again. He has a no trade clause, so trading him to anywhere but the NY or the West Coast will probably be impossible (I wonder if hed waive for Seattle or SF, etc.) The reality is the Sox need to help Shingo get back on track, because otherwise we are Hermanson or bust. SB
  6. Nice to see that Gload is finally getting some respect. Gload and Willie have to stay. Willie can actually draw walks, work counts, and will hit above .270. Gload will do good, he might not be flashy. But with guys on base he is going to make contact, work the field, and atleast be a complete player. SB
  7. SF must be really down on Williams after his start this season. He could be a nice starter for the Cubs. SB
  8. Why wouldnt I want the White Sox to be winning? Well they are winning, and last I checked they have the best record in baseball. This is Ozzie's team not KW's. Last I checked KW was the GM, and Ozzie was the manager. How exactly did Ozzie make the trade for Pods? Or was it Ozzie who was out scouting Iguchi? Maybe Ozzie worked out the contract for AJ? The reality is, I could be the manager of the White Sox and we would atleast have the same record, if not better. Its not hard to fill out a starting line up and just let your SP go to work. Hell most of the time he has made really poor match up decisions concerning the bull pen, he plays Timo Perez over anyone, and we still some how manage to win games. If anything, KW has given Ozzie a team that no matter how many peculiar decisions he makes, he can not screw it up. God forbid KW be given credit, what will be the next excuse. He f***ed up trading Kip Wells, get over it. You win some, you lose some. The only place you are going to win every time in a trade is MVP where you can go back to your last save. Bet you would rather have Olivo and Reed than Garcia too. Laughable. SB
  9. The only reason the Mets would trade Wright is if they were getting some sort of great deal and were completely blown away. Lets say the A's offer Chavez, Harden for Wright and Floyd. The Mets may take that deal eventhough Wright is a monster, just because the other pieces would vastly improve their team. Once again I only said Wright because some one was listing the best 3b, and left him off of the list. I just was stating that Wright should be on the list of good hitting 3b. As for would Texas trade Blalock, it just depends on what they are getting and what they want. If the White Sox mention McCarthy, I have to believe Texas would listen. For a variety of lower calibre players, they may also be willing to work out a deal if we are giving them some SP who can produce this year or next year. SB
  10. I do not think Wright will be traded. But I do think he is one of the top 3b right now, and potentially could be one of the best hitting 3b for years to come. Sb
  11. Blalock could be had for the right price, Tex was a 3b coming up too, and the Rangers system is stocked with hitting prospects. For the right SP, the Rangers probably will entertain all offers. Sb
  12. Why would the Orioles trade for a 1b? Why would the Orioles let themselves get completely ripped off? Why would the Brewers trade away a cheap young player? Might as well throw in Rickie Weeks. SB
  13. David Wright is a good hitting 3b. Might even put up better numbers than half the players on that list, and most importantly hes a rookie. SB
  14. If we are trading McCarthy, we have to get the best player available. I really like Chavez, and would probably make the trade provided the A's give us a prospect back. You would think with a guy like Bmac Kenny can pretty much name his price. I used to love Chavez, but he just has not picked it up at all this year. It might be that the A's offense is so terrible that its impacted him, but even at his worst I expected more than this. The question is whether Blalock, Wright, etc could be had for the same price and are significantly cheaper. SB
  15. I agree with Credepops, it appears to be the shadow from the basket above the ball. SB
  16. I just resaw the play and it appears Uribe said nothing, and just merely raised his hands as if it was a foul ball. That play is fine in my book. For some reason I thought this thread was suggesting that not only did he raise his hands, but he was saying foul ball. Sorry for the argument. SB
  17. I drafted him in 2 fantasy leagues which meant that he got cursed. SB
  18. Steff, Here are the facts that I am going by. 1) Uribe knew that the ball was fair. (damnit i keep mixing half of it up) 2) Uribe said as Lee was coming to 2nd, "foul ball". Lieing, is deceptive in its very nature. So yes in that he did deceive Lee. I am trying to split deception and lieing, into 2 categories to show where deception in baseball is always considered fair and part of the game, ie hidden ball trick, pick off move. In a deceptive move, the player believes something that is not really going to happen. In a pick off move, the player is deceived into thinking that the ball is being thrown home, when in reality it is being thrown to first base, ie hidden ball trick, the player is deceived into thinking some one else has the ball. In both of those scenarios, it is entirely up to the opposing player to view what is going on, and to decide what is happening. When some one lies, ie tells a something that is false. It goes beyond deception, because it is no longer just acts that lead to manifestations, but instead they are direct manifestations. SB
  19. Dick Allen, As I said before. If Uribe thought it was foul, its neither deception nor a lie. He just made a mistake, and the Cubs listened to his mistaken belief. But no one who is arguing with me is taking the stand point that Uribe may have thought it was foul, they are arguing he knew it was fair, but that it was okay for him to say it was foul. SB
  20. Jabroni, It should of said: What Uribe did went beyond deception. IE to the area of lieing. Lieing is always deception. But deception is not always lieing, this computer is lagging to hell so my posts are all f***ed up. SB
  21. Damn work computer is blowing so this part should of been in the other post: Lie: A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood. Deliberately presented as true, compared with deception. Now a lie can be a deception, but a deception does not have to be a lie. If you can not understand that, then you just will not understand the difference between the 2 words. Jimh, I would have to hear the specific examples to get into the details of whether I thought they were low brow or not. This is just 1 specific fact pattern where I believe that Uribe should not have said, the ball is foul. He could have acted as if the ball was foul, he could have done other things to decieve Lee, I just think actually saying: The ball is foul, goes over a line of sportsmanship. I agree that Konerko should not have commented in the newspapers, its not his team, or his call. Steff, As I said before, lieing is always deception, deception is not necessarily lieing. I know this is a hard concept for people to grasp, but the words themselves pretty much state the obvious. Lieing is the act of decieving, but deception is not the act of lieing. It is getting some one to believe something based on their own manifestations of what they think is occuring. When Uribe said the ball was fair, Lee did not come to to this conclusion because he misinterpreted the reality, he came to the conclusion because it is what Uribe told him. SB
  22. Not arguing that Lee should not have listened to Uribe. Just that two wrongs do not make a right. My stance is what Uribe did is not deception, and therefore is a low brow play. Not illegal, not against the rules, just low brow. SB
  23. If Uribe thought it was foul then what he did was not wrong. Not that hard to understand that part of it being a lie or a trick is that you are knowingly doing it. Edit: Made a mistake saying "fair" Deceit: Deliberate and misleading concealment, Concealement. As I stated before, concealment is different than making a false statement. Not really a fine line, just a basic understanding of the difference between deception and lieing. SB
  24. Once again, straw man argument for Jabroni and people wonder why im frustrated. I never said it was not allowed, just that it was beneath the White Sox. You want to argue, argue against that argument. Do not keep saying that I said its wrong, or not allowed. Its f***ing annoying as hell. SB
  25. Once again, Hidden ball trick is much different than what Uribe did. Uribe lied, not deception, lieing. Deception is when you do things to make the other team believe something that is not there. Deception is when you play action, deception is when you make a pick off move to first base, when you pretend at second that a ball is being thrown to you. The difference between deception and lieing, is that in deception the other team makes moves based on what the percieve you to be doing. When you lie, ie tell some one it is foul. It is no longer deception. SB
