As for Blankely, see first amendment. Unless he wants to prove that it falls in some public policy exception, you wont get very far with going after the press. Especially since he used, no names, and no real identifiable information. Just general information, which is generally not exempt from 1st amendment protection of the press. Secondly, if you really think that an Iran will allow us to airstrike them, and then not do something about it, I would like to move to your dream world. If Iran is attacked, expect Iran v Iraq II, except this time the millions of soldiers in the desert wont just be Iraqi's and Iranians, there will be a lot of Americans there too, especially since which side will Iraqi's fight on? Even though Iran is their enemy, there is an old saying: An enemy of my enemy is my friend. For futher information on this subject, please go to your local library and look up where Iraq got its weapons to fight Iran. SB

Juggernaut, I just do not think 1 season is enough to say that he will not be an every day player. Look at Konerko's stats from 1998, in 350 ab's he hit around .210, 11 hr, and had 70 ks compared to 26 bbs. The next year he hit .298 Unlike most Sox fans, I think Willie can be a legitimate starter, and perhaps in a few years be a quality player. From what I have seen, he works the counts well, tries to see as many pitches as possible, and tries to get the bat on the ball instead of trying to swing for power, extra bases. With more confidence and better consistent playing time, I think you will see Willie at around .270-.280 range. Which is not terrible considering he is an above average fielder, has good speed, and will be batting 9th. SB

As stated before, people are putting Brown at 4, because they think that is where he should go. Its to hard to mock with trades, so they just put players where they think they will get drafted. Many people think the Bears will trade down, therefore 4 is a place where a team might try and jump up and take Brown (makes sense cause there are rumors Bucs may be looking rb at 5). If this is the case, then the Bears 4 is going to start increasing in value. SB

w/o= with out. So he probably does not like to lose, but probably does like to read the posts before commenting. SB

Bernie Mac is hilarious. When he sang the song, I was with my girlfriends family who was all Cubs fans. My first remark was "Isnt Bernie Mac a Sox fan and from the South Side?" Then when he started saying "Champs", I kept saying: "I think Bernie is trying to curse the Cubs." Regardless of intent, I think Bernie singing the 7th inning will forever live as one of the greatest stretches of all time. SB

Yahoo Fantasy Baseball sign ups!!!
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
I was involved last year, I believe I was in Sox talk league 2, I was also the champion. I dont care what league I am in, I just want to be with other active players, also want to be in one that is head to head and has a live draft. SB -
Ive posted this before, and Im sure teams have variations but: Trade Value Chart It just depends how far they trade down what type of package they could get. Also next years 1st round picks are valued much lower than this years, because you do not know what selection you are getting. According to this the Cowboys picks are slightly more valuable than the Bears pick. SB

Interesting details in CBelts contract
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
He may get disciplined for his actions, but its really a non-issue. I mean how many people know that Clinton was prohibited from practicing law for 2 years for lieing under oath? I mean even a censure for Boras is pretty unimportant, as he does not really practice law, and he really does not even need his license. Probably just keeps it for prestigious reasons. SB -
I understand trying to get as much money as possible, but the difference between $4mil and $8mil, is significantly smaller, than $4mil and $0. SB
-
This is where agents like Boras off miss the boat. Weaver's first contract, they are asking for 11mil for what 5-6 years he will be under contract from the team? If Weaver is the next Prior, then you would want him to play as soon as possible so that he can hit free agency earlier, where the real money is. Weaver could go into the draft again, and have this same scenario occur. I mean at that point he would be out almost $4mil. Also, after missing a full season, his stock will start to drop, so whatever he originally might have gotten will go down. I really do not see how it can be in the players best interest to turn down millions and lose an entire year of growth. SB
-
If the bears trade, I think they will have to accept something like: Number 4 over all for Teams first round this year, 2 or 3 this year, and 1st or 2nd next year. I dont know who will want 4 bad enough to give up 2 firsts this year. SB

Yanks and Red Sox were interested in Iguchi It may just be the Sox are actually going after him harder than other teams. SB

Best Pitcher, Buerhle. Best upside on pitcher, Garcia. Best Hitter, Thomas. Until Garcia out performs Buerhle in a Sox uniform, you have to give it to him. SB

This whole offseason everything coming from the Sox has been negative about Harris. If you have plans for a player, you do not destroy their confidence and bad mouth them, especially if they are young. It generally means that they are looking for a change. ::Shrugs:: I do not agree that we should throw in the towel so fast on Harris, but I think that is what the Sox believe. SB
-
I dont know why, but I have a feeling that this deal is done. A saw a Mariners site that said we offered a 2 year 2 mil deal, but that Iguchi was looking for around $3mil (this was posted on the 8th). Just seems to much coincidence: 1) Brooks Boyer talking about Iguchi to fans buying tickets. 2) The start of Sox fest. 3) Oz going after Willie. 4) Reports from the radio we have offered 3 years at 3 mil, right in the range that it would take. Also here is an interesting site about Iguchi from when the Mets were considering him or Matsui. Iguchi
-
While it is hearsay, you can easily go to WSI, and read the thread yourself to get the first hand knowledge. ::Shrugs:: I think it makes sense, and is what many have speculated for a long time, that the Sox will do something at Sox fest. Iguchi may have been the only guy they could wait with. SB

MLB and ESPN are junk sites. Anyone that reads them for more than 10 minutes knows this. Why would they not read one of the two major sites dedicated to their own team? Fan sites are like databases of knowledge. SB

Babybear, I gaurantee you that KW's job is not nearly as demanding as some of the people who post on this site regularly. My opinion, but being a GM is once again not rocket science. It requires no diploma, not even a high school education. In fact, Hawk Harrelson was once able to be one. And many people on this board would make a much better GM than Williams, and some person on this board may be the best GM ever. Who knows, but if you dont take the time to read and listen to other people, than you will never know. ::shrugs:: And a quick question, what job do you do that requires you not to find out about your customer? SB
-
If KW does not, then he should. While he is a professional GM, that does not make him a statician, or give him personal knowledge that some of the people on these boards possess. There is an old saying in business, if you want the truth, you go to the lowest person on the rung. If the White Sox organization wanted to see other perspectives, the best place to do it with no cost to themselves would be these websites. For $0 they can get first hand knowledge of prospects from guys like Rex Hudler, they can get stats from others, and so on and so forth. Being a pro Gm is not like being a CPA, Dr., lawyer, etc. There is no degree, no special skills required. If I owned a team, I would read these sites every day. For the hour it takes, I would be getting an invaluable way of connecting to my customer, to find out their concerns and what they like, etc. ::Shrugs:: Just my opinion. So to answer the question, I believe that not only has KW read this site, but that probably all the way from Reinsdorf down has, so long as they own a computer and have the internet. SB

Leinart likely to decide on his future tomorrow
Soxbadger replied to chimpy2121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Id hope any player that I was considering taking at 1, would think that they were good enough to make any team compete, especially a QB taken at 1. Also, with the 49ers having the first pick, he would most likely get a chance to be the 49ers QB, and as a Cali guy, I cant imagine what you could want more than being the QB of the 49ers, just like Montana and Young. Just my opinion. SB -
Leinart likely to decide on his future tomorrow
Soxbadger replied to chimpy2121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think the decision is easy. While you can break college records, what will that get you in the end? As a top 5 pick and probably 1 over all, regardless of what happens after that point his entire life will be set. Risk vs reward, there is no question, especially since he can not really improve his stock. SB -
File this as "I told you so" ....
Soxbadger replied to YASNY's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well Seles did nothing wrong, so no matter what Moss did, it would have to be worse. I just think that if anything is going to change in player fan relation, it will be the fans. Security guards, metal detectors, etc etc. Sorry but under no circumstances is pretending to moon some one a valid reason for hitting them, let alone shooting them. And are fans going to be prevented from swearing, giving the finger, etc? All of which are far more inflammatory than a simple fake gesture. SB -

Soxbadger replied to YASNY's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yes I remember Monica Seles, she was stabbed by a Steffi Graf fan. She was not stabbed for celebrating, or for inciting the fans. She was stabbed because she was "to good". Not sure how you can put Seles and Moss in the same category. If fans want to get out of control, they will. Sb -

Its lame that the announcers get so after Randy. I mean faux mooning, most 7 year olds have seen way worse things in the Austin Power's marathon that they probably catch on TBS. And a fan shooting some one? Why would you blame the player? Its the "pyscho" fans fault, and notice how the phrase pyscho means that they are unstable to begin with. No rational human would shoot some one, over being mooned as a fan. And as a player I would have no fear of a fan running onto the football field. I have pads, they have most likely nothing. As soon as their foot touches the field, you can say "I was afraid they were going to attack me" as soon as your fear is reasonable, you can defend yourself. I doubt many fans are going to be getting into fights with 200-300 lb football players. I think it was one of the funnier things Ive seen a football player do. SB -
Past performance can never predict future success. Also, you are looking at thousands of independent variables and trying to fit them neatly into a formula. Who knows how Dye would have produced in Lee's place? Lee was on a better offensive team, that played a large amount of their games in a better offensive park. But this could be a good way to evaluate a trade after the fact, as in compare Lee's ws to the rest of the gang after the season to see who really did profit. Sb
