  1. He was signed as a FA, and he was relatively cheap as he had major health concerns due to his hip problem. I dont think he was ever really healthy with the Sox, but he was still a fun guy to have on the team. SB
  2. 1) The Cell is a fine stadium, I mean its not a throwback, its just a staduim built to have ameneties and allow you to watch a baseball game. 2) During the early 90's the White Sox were really starting to gain a lot of fans and popularity, but the strike really hit the South Side harder than the North Side. Many people think and thought that the Sox team that year had a good shot in the playoffs, and the fact Reisndorf was so strong in favor of the strike really hurt attendance in the years to follow. I believe prior to the strike year, the Sox outdrew the Cubs every year that New Comiskey was in existance. SB
  3. Duque and Perez both come with concerns about how deep they can go into games. Duque has a greater health concern. Perez has a greater risk of not changing leagues well. Therefore Perez is not worth 2x as much as Duque. Perez at $6mil probably would go in his favor due to age. But anything above that, Duque is a better risk, because he goes from the AL East to AL Central and because he has played in the AL before. Perez will go from a pitcher park in the NL West (not exactly an offensive division) to Comiskey a hitters park in the AL Central (a more offensive division). SB
  4. Why would Willie sulk? If anything, whenever hes been put on the bench, all hes ever done is give 100% and not complained. I think there will be plenty of AB's for both Eck and Willie, because Willie can play against RHP, and Eck against LHP. Also Eck can play for Uribe, and Uribe can play for Crede. So we could have different line ups depending on who we are facing: Willie 2b Uribe SS Crede 3b Eck 2b Uribe SS Crede 3b Willie 2b Eck SS Crede 3b Willie 2b Eck SS Uribe 3b 4 players splitting time between 3 positions will give them all chances to play, and even better for us, we can take advantage of match ups, and hopefully prevent Crede, Uribe, Willie from prolonged slumps. And I think Willie will be a good lead off hitter one day, he is still developing. But he has very good discipline and works counts very well. SB
  5. If AZ will take Williams, there is a chance. But I cant see NY parting with Sheff or Matsui. SB
  6. And it is stupid for the White Sox to let a contract that they never were even part of the bargain for, dictate who is going to play. Gload and Everett had equal chances last year, Gload out produced Everett. I think Everett will be the "starter" out of respect to him and in hopes that he can put up numbers that come close to worth $4mil, and if he does not Gload will replace him very quickly. SB
  7. Im sorry, but really there should be no circumstance where a team that wins 90 games should the next year just pack it in and not think they can win it all. Also, if Beane is a GM that does not think he can put out a competing team each year, than he really is not as great as people think he is. He traded for Kendall, is Kendall > Mulder? And I have heard and seen a lot of stocked farm systems, it means nothing. I mean if you could predict preformance based on rankings or ratings, then 1st round picks would always be greater than 38th round picks. Personally, I think Mulder could win a few cy youngs. SB
  8. Hudson is understandable, although I would of tried to sign Hudson before I traded for Kendal. But Mulder is just puzzeling, not only was he signed next year, I think he also had a team option on the year after. And I would not risk so many young pitchers at one time, consistency is a major strength of good pitching teams. SB
  9. They may put up as good of seasons, but what are the chances they consistently put up as good of seasons as Mulder and Hudson? 4 straight years 15+ wins, no more than 10 losses, sub era of 3.5 in 3, 200 ip in 3. Beane may be smart, buf if I were the gm of Oakland I would of clung to Mulder and Hudson until the very end, especially while they were making sub 10mil. I mean Pavano got $10mil. Just cant comprehend. SB
  10. As an A's fan I would of pretty much preferred they trade every single contract before getting rid of Hudson and Mulder. Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Harden and a bunch of nobodys on offensive could still win games. SB
  11. Why? If any of these pitchers do turn out to be great, when they are peaking the A's are going to have to get rid of them anyways. Slash and burn technique can turn out very bad. And I think Zito might be moved as well, if your going to implode might as well try and sell players off so that the younger players can get some experience. SB
  12. The A's might be the worst team in the AL West next year. Why trade for Kendall if you are just going to decimate your pitching staff? SB
  13. I dont like Timo either, but my dislike at $1mil is considerably less than my dislike for $4mil, because that money could be spent on some one who could actually play. I mean not even an oustanding player, just a guy like Grudz who can sub in for Willie against lefties. It makes no sense to waste Gload, and we need to see if he can be an every day player. SB
  14. Gload > Everett Now that we have Timo as a back up to an already filled outfield, Everett needs to be traded. Post All-Star Splits: Gload: 57 129 17 47 10 0 5 72 24 12 17 0 2 .364 .410 .558 .968 Everett: 43 154 21 41 7 1 5 65 21 8 26 1 0 .266 .320 .422 .742 Everett struck out more times. In fact: Lee: 70 267 52 86 14 0 20 160 49 22 35 4 1 .322 .376 .599 .976 Gload has less HR's but for all those OPS guy's he makes it up with the +.400 obp. Now Everett on the other hand had an OBP Gload should start at 1b, Konerko DH. SB
  15. Gload replaces Everett. And I think Gload can produce as well as Everett if he plays every day. Also when and if Frank comes back you dont have to send $4mil Everett to the bench. SB
  16. Who is talking Konerko? Everett, $4mil to sit on the bench, maybe will outproduce Ross Gload, maybe will not. Gload playing 1b every day is much better defensively than Konerko, IMO trading Everett is not that big of a loss, as Dye, Rowand, and Pods are going to play every day. Garland, being upgraded to Randy Johnson. Garland is in his walk year as well, if he does dynamite it will cost a lot to resign him. Johnson brings dominance to a staff that needs a leader. Prospect from bullpen, with additions of Vizcaino and Hermanson are bullpen is pretty full, we can trade the depth for an outstanding pitcher. SB
  17. I think the Sox still could get RJ, and that an offer of Garland, Everett, and choice of (Diaz, Munoz, Cotts, Borchard, or Marte) Could get the job done as LA's offer is slightly better, but is it $10mil better for a team that needs money. SB
  18. For the 10mil some one might spend on Clement, we can probably sign Milwood and AJ if we go for them right now. SB
  19. Seems LA paid to get rid of Green's contract. As Penny is just about as good as Vazquez, although slightly more injury concern. Strange trade for a team who went out of their way to trade for Penny just a few months ago. SB
  20. There is one potential problem in any Green trade, He has to waive his no trade clause. The question is, why would you waive it to go from LA to AZ? SB
  21. And I was a big Milwood fan after 2002, but the last 2 years he has just done nothing to prove that he is worthy of being a frontline starter. I think 2003 is what you will get on average out of Miwood, especially in the AL. 4.0 era, 150-170ks, 8-15 wins. in reality, he could do just as well as Clement, but you would be taking a bigger gamble as Clement has shown improvement, where as Milwood has declined. If you wanted to bet purely on innings, I would say Milwood could give you more bang for your buck. Also Wright got $7mil a year, and I would not bet on Wright having a better year than Milwood. SB
  22. I just dont think Milwood will take anything but $5mil minimum, with a ton of chances for incentives. Boras is his agent, last year he made $11mil. To come down all the way to $2-3 is hard to imagine. Also who knows who will be non-tendered, there could be a good $2-3 mil guy there, and the Milwood and Milton's of the wolrd probably will be the last to sign. SB
  23. We care that they overpay because unlike higher payroll teams we can not just absorb the salary if things go bad. SB
  24. I figured that after the Lee trade, the Sox had about $6-8 million to spend in free agency. It would be nice to think that we could go to $10 or even $12mil more, but I think if that was the case, then we would undoubtedly just sign players and not trade. But unfortunately I just dont see us spending another $10mil without there being some subtraction. SB
  25. How do we pay for AJ + Perez, with out giving up any salary? SB
