  1. In league 2, I finished first, and right now its Southside Hitmen versus my team for the championship. The finals is tied at 6-6 right now, but hopefully my team plays up to potential and wins. SB
  2. Williams may not of wanted Maggs at $12-$14mil, but he sure wanted the first or second round pick that Maggs would have brought in. Offering an All-Star arbitration would of surely meant the Sox got compensation, now they are going to have to be real smart in what they do, because it could back fire in so many ways. SB
  3. This could end up screwing the Sox. Before no matter what we would have atleast offered arbitration, and been assured that we would have gotten some picks. Now if Maggs health is looming, we cant just automatically offer a contract, because what if no one else offers, and then we are stuck with a hurt player making over $14 mil. Although, I guess they could put in a clause that the contract can be voided if he does not pass a physical, etc. Still a lot of money is at stake, and his health is no longer assured for next year, or beyond. SB
  4. I cant possibly see how they could come up with a case that says you cant be a professional baseball player and be enrolled in college. He cant play the sport, but nothing should stop him from being able to successfully enroll, or stay in enrolled so long as the school accepts him. SB
  5. I agree, we should be thanking you. Anyways, congratulations on the season, and good luck in the playoffs. SB
  6. It would strike me as very odd that the Sox will not offer Maggs arbitration, because they could easily just make part of the contract that he pass a physical, so the only risk would be that he accepted arbitration, not that he was healthy. I think that Levine may have meant that the White Sox are not going to offer Magglio a long term contract, or a real offer, as opposed to the fact that they will offer him arbitration, which would almost certainly be a mere formality. SB
  7. The difference is simple. In a criminal trial the standard for conviction is, beyond a reasonable doubt. That means the defense would ask the jury if they had any doubt what so ever, that they acquit. Now in a civil trial the standard is a preponderance of the evidence, and of course you have the sympathy of the jury, and the knowledge that Kobe has millions, so even if they error, would an error of say $100k be that devastating? If the case is dropped because she refuses to testify, there may be severe consequences on the civil trial, because no jury is being sequestered at this moment for said case, so almost every juror will know that it was not that she lost the case, like the Goldman Simpson case, it was that she did not even want to testify anymore. And I really never thought that the prosecution had a chance, but I am suprised that they didnt go for a conviction, knowing that by losing the criminal case she would look even more sympathetic in the civil case. Because now they could say she was a "victim" whos only recourse now is monetary. SB

    He gong!

Id be part of the Shingo fan club, I still remember the night when I chose not to add him to my Soxtalk Fantasy league team. And barring some crazy thing like Shingo's arm falling off, I think its safe to say they will pick up his option for next year. Id expect jerseys of his next year as well to try and tap into the Japanese and Asian market. SB
  9. Situations like that are where Willie has to realize it doesnt matter if he gets thrown out. There were already 2 outs, and the line up had already flipped over so this inning we start 1,2,3 with no outs. By getting to second a single scores him, and with a bad throw or something he could get to third. And Ben Davis hitting a 3 run home run, crazy. SB
  10. Esteban seems to have run out of gas, where as Contreras has the stuff, just hasnt put it together. Perhaps being on a team with Ozzie and knowing hes going to be a starter for the next 2 years will boost his confidence. He has the stuff, now he needs to put it together. I like the trade, and hope to love it after Contreras next start. SB
  11. Our offense without Maggs and Frank should still be able to score 4 runs. Our pitching staff is good enough to keep other teams at 3. We can win 5 in a row as easy as lose 5. Just cant panic with this much time left, the next time we face the Twins it could easily be us sweeping. SB
  12. The Sox have made 2 trades, while most contenders have made 0. Are some people only happy if we are doing something every week? SB
  13. Im all for trading minor league talent for major league talent, but come on, Sweeney for Floyd, thats over paying. Ive always thought Floyd could be a good addition in Chicago, but hes an aging veteran with health problems and a $6.5 million dollar contract. I hope the Sox add Floyd, but I hope the cost is significantly less than Sweeney. SB
  14. You say you want people to come together, then you preemptively slam anyone that said the White Sox might not make the playoffs, if they later on change their mind. Seems strange. SB
  15. For better or worse I will believe the Sox have a chance at the playoffs until they are statistically eliminated. I always thought thats what being a fan is about, believing. SB
  16. Burke is no Kendall though. A Kendall, Burke, Alomar platoon would be fine for the time being, especially because we could put Kendall at dh a few days and have Everett in RF. SB
  17. Sox vs Twins Were we not going to lose to the Twins for the rest of the season? We still are leading the head to head series, and there is no reason to believe that we cant win tomorrow, and next time take 2 of 3 from them. Radke is a Sox killer, and Santana has been lights out. They just have to try and maybe get an early lead and build on some of that last innings momentum. Kind of like when Paniaqua or whatever his name was last year. SB
  18. Im going to say this is completely a rumor. Now had it been phrased, RJ has told AZ that he is demanding to be traded. But there is no way he is demanding to be traded to only 1 team, seeing as it puts the Diamondbacks in the drivers seat. They now can threaten that, unless you accept a trade to another team, you remain a Diamondback, or retire. I just doubt an agent would want to risk one of his biggest clients retiring when hes still set to make over $10 mil. SB
  19. When Columbo was injured I said that it looked like it would be career ending. Just the way he fell, it looked as if the whole knee was going to have to be reconstructed. As for Harris, I hope you dont get to far behind Tank, because I think many in the Bears organization feel he can replace you pretty easily. SB
  20. Already posted in the Lidle thread my thoughts on Benson. He projects to be a 4.25 (low end) to +5 era pitcher in the AL. When you look at opponents BA against, its clear that he uses the lower half of the NL line up to get through the game. Not to mention after 75 pitches, the BA against dramatically increases. End result, hell probably burn out the pen, and if Morn(eau) slumps, they are going to be really sad they lost their veteran first baseman. SB
  21. While it was a sad event, the move by Hunter is a sign of desperation. If the Twins think they can outlast the Sox, they are not going to be cheap shotting us, they are going to try and beat us on the field. Even in a game where they were winning, they needed to make a "bigger" statement because we had already stuck it to them so many other times. If anything it shows a lack of confidence by the Twins. They realize that they are not as talented as they have been in the past, and with their second half schedule, they need much more distance between themselves and the Sox. It is my belief that all retaliating would of done was fire up the Twins at that moment, so we might as well be the team that is all fired up and ready to go, as opposed to the team that will be looking over their shoulder the rest of the series. By not addressing it last night, the question is not if, but when. Id rather have inspired play, then vengeful play. Plenty of season left, and burying Hunter wont be that hard. SB
  22. Benson will be this years Suppan. He can suceed in the NL, but look at the averages of the 1-5 hitters against him. ESPN Stat He gets a break in the NL because the 6,7,8 hitters are weaker, and the 9th is the pitcher. Also with runners on base BA against is almost .290. Also after pitch 75, the BA against him is over .320, meaning that he rarely can go into even the 7th inning. Hes a good 5th starter in the AL, but if your rotation is going to depend on him, youll have a lot of problems. SB

    My Letter

If that was your draft, here are some ideas for your finished copy. First, tell them who you are. My name is, I am this age, I have been to this many games, this is where I normally sit. Just give them a background of who you are, and what type of things you have witnessed. As an anonymous email, they really have no grasp of who you are. Letting them know who you are, puts a face on your email, and their response could be more personal, instead of just a form letter they send to all emails. Second, do not threaten them about a response. Instead you should probably do the exact opposite and preface, I understand that you are busy right now as the White Sox are involved in a very exciting season, but that you hope these issues are resolved quickly, and that you would like to hear back from them as soon as possible. Third, grammar, punctuation, and all of that is less relevant than the tone of your email. If you are condescending, they will be less likely to listen to what you have to say. If you act like a person who just wants the best for the White Sox, they will be less likely to be on the defensive. I doubt that anyone would have a serious problem over a 16 year old's writing style, its not like you are writing your thesis paper. Fourth, just be yourself. People are more likely to listen if they truely think you care, and are not just complaining. I know this is kind of a repeat of the others, but theres no need to be fancy or anything. Your a Sox fan, just be that. Anyways, good luck, hopefully they respond. SB
