No because everyone here is failing to understand supply and demand. The supply of 27 year old GG cfers who can hit 30+ hrs is almost 0. Where as there is an abundance of rightfielders who can hit for .300 25 hrs. So wed be losing some production at RF, but gaining so much in CF and another Pitcher. SB

Maggs makes $14 mil per year. So lets say we some how get him to agree to just keeping the same salary. I believe $14mil is still > $13.5mil. Unless you think Maggs is taking a pay cut? SB
-
Jones is making less money than Maggs wants for the next 4 years. Thats why Jones is tempting. SB
-
I was commenting on the article suggesting Maggs could be placed in center. Guess those 22 games in 1998 caught their attention. SB
-
Ordonez would be an interesting CF lol. And I bet if the Jones Maggs part enters into the equation whether it gets done or not depends on how much the Braves will pay each year. If they start offering $3mil per year... SB

Atlanta is 4.5 games back, they arent the type of team that throws in the towel. I dont think they consider themselves out of it at all. SB
-
Well thats why on a basic level it makes sense. We know that Williams liked Beltran, and has always been looking for a CF upgrade. We also know Williams once tried to trade for Ortiz, so he probably still has aspirations of acquiring him. The Braves are struggling and need a big time bat, they have the money and probably think if they trade for Maggs, and start working on him now, they can prevent him from getting to free agency. I mean with talents like this, some times the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. I hope it happens, but after watching the Nomar A Rod trade saga, Ill say Im not optimistic. (Last I can see he signed a 6 year 75 mil contract in 2002, which means he has 4 more years after this. Its probably about 4 years 48 mil, which is less than Maggs wanted. Also of note, he is a Boras client. So extra suspicious. SB

Thats from the Atlanta County Journal, I dont feel like subscribing but a Brave's fan posted the link. I kind of expected that we would have to throw them a prospect, but whatever the case both Brave and Sox fans are talking about it. Probably means that we never will see it happen. SB
-
It would be about +4mil for th White Sox. Jones makes 12 mil, Ortiz $6mil. Ordonez makes 14mil. Wed add some salary, but it would be a pretty huge reward. SB
-
lol Or they read my posts this morning. If its that deal straight up, the Sox have to seriously consider it. (I would say take it if you can get Jones signed to a deal of a little less than we were going to offer Magglio.) SB
-
Thats a different story. Andruw Jones I would trade for as a long term solution in CF. Ive watched the Sox be victimized by Hunter, it would be nice to see us with that sort of talent in the outfield. I believe Jones will outproduce Drew almost every single year they play, there may be a rare exception where Drew can put it all together, but for the most part Jones will be the player who may make the HOF, where as Drew will always be remembered for turning down his first contract. Would I swap Konerko for Drew, Id think about it, but I also think the Braves would want money. There is something to be said for staying with the players who have been part of your team, Konerko has been a Sox, and if we were in the World Series I would prefer Konerko batting to Drew. As at any given at bat would I prefer Jones over Drew. SB
-
You think we should trade for JD my agent is Scott Boras Drew, and you dare mention the fact Konerko makes 17 mil over 2 seasons. Drew is going to be looking for $10mil, minimum next year if he plays the entire season. And some sad team will give him that money, but I gaurantee you its not the White Sox. I dont know why people have this fascination with Drew, and even more importantly why people think that hes going to be cheap. SB
-
Drew could turn out to be amazing. Just right now, my money is on Jones, and I think he could be actually had this moment, where as the Braves would be more reluctant to trade Drew. Our defense would get a whole lot better, and if he started hitting would be great. I doubt we get either, but I will stay with Jones being my preferrence. SB
-
No I was considering that pretty similar, seeing as all the other stats I pointed out were so drastically in Jones' favor. (Averages vs Right Handed Pitcher over last 3 years) .267 .340 .500 .840 .293 .386 .529 .915 That is what you are chosing Jones over Drew for. Now think of all the risks associated with Drew. Think about the fact hes a Boras client on I believe the last year of his deal. So we are trading Maggs for a rent a right fielder? Count me out, Id trade some prospects Colorado's way and get Larry Walker, or some other lefty than trading one of our best players just to fill an immediate need. Jones will fill a long term position CF, and we can get a lefty in free agency in the Ibanez mold for cheap. Where as CF's who hit 30+ hr, will always come at a huge price. Buy low, sell high. Buying Drew now is at its peak, Jones is at his lowest. If this was a stock, youd have to put your money in Jones, there just is no reason to believe that Drew will keep up the pace and Jones wont turn it around. SB
-
You act like Drew hits consistently over 300 while Jones is under 250. Over their careers they have had very similar ba and obp, with Jones being the more durable and better defensive player. In any given season I would expect Jones to out produce Drew, and to say Drew is a better fit just because he is a lefty is not really true. Where would Drew fit? 5th? 2nd? Where as Jones would go into the 2 hole, and get the same sort of pitches Uribe has been popping up. Cept for Jones hits those pitches out of the park. SB
-
Oh this will never happen. But I can dream about Andruw Jones being in the outfield for the next 5 years. SB
-
Hes had 1 bad year and hes 27 years old. Your saying that Rowand is better than Andruw Jones. I cant even argue with this lol. 2003 Atl 156 595 101 165 28 2 36 116 53 125 4 3 .277 .338 .513 .851 Thats what Jones put up last year, if you have some sick dream where Rowand hits almost 40 home runs and over 110 rbis, then thats your fantasy. But 1 bad year for a 27 year old whos been in the majors since he was 18, please. YEAR G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS CAREER 336 746 114 208 45 2 24 90 45 130 12 3 .279 .331 .441 .772 CAREER 1207 4374 715 1168 234 28 233 712 466 933 120 46 .267 .341 .493 .834 I think Ill take stat line number 2. SB

Because I was accounting for the fact that Drew puts up superior numbers when he doesnt play a full season. His highest OPS seasons, he only plays 100 games, only in 2000 did Drew "put it all together" but even those numbers arent great for a guy whos gonna ask you for $10 mil next year. 2000 StL 135 407 73 120 17 2 18 57 67 99 17 9 .295 .401 .479 .880 2000 Atl 161 656 122 199 36 6 36 104 59 100 21 6 .303 .366 .541 .907 He gets more walks, Jones generally will hit for more power and k more. Jones can develop more discipline, and then he will be far and away better than Drew. But I cant argue, if people want to be stuck with Drew, then so be it. But Jones would make more sense in the 2 hole, and a change of scenery may be all he needs to be lights out. SB

Lets look at Jones and Drew: Jones is 27 Drew is 28 Jones is a GG CF Drew is an above average OF who can potentially play any position out there if youll take that risk. Jones over 30 home runs 5. Drew over 30 home runs 0. Jones over 100 rbi 3. Drew over 100 rbi 0. Jones over 100 run 3. Drew over 100 run 0. Jones over 30 2b 4. Drew over 30 2b 0. Jones over 20 sb 4. Drew over 20 sb 0. Jones right handed. Drew left handed. So simply for the last fact you are going to take JD Drew over Jones? 5 years from now people may be looking back and saying how didnt people realize that Jones could of been the better CF than Beltran. Hes going to have 250 home runs by the age of 28. Beltran has 123 home runs and he is 27. If some how the Sox got Jones, that would be sick. SB
-
In Jones we would be trading for a long term CF solution, who at this point might be signable for a little less than the package we were going to offer Maggs. Jones would bring defensive abilities in the OF we havent seen. As for getting a left handed outfield hitter, that really isnt to hard to accomplish, Everett would of made a much better RF than CF. Its hard to get young dynamic CF, its eaiser to get corner outfielders who can hit. SB
-
No you trade prospects for a left handed hitting of, or play A-Row, Harris, Gload platoon. Regardless we would have a significant defensive upgrade, and potential offensive upgrade. To go along with a nice pitcher. JD Drew, just doesnt excite me, and I believe hes a Boras client. SB

I guess I must watch a different team, because I do not think that the Cubs are that much better. Starting pitching: Cubs more talented, but have injury questions. Prior has not looked right since coming back from the DL, and most of his fastballs were in the upper 80's yesterday as opposed to the mid to upper 90's we saw last year. He has been unable to go past the 5th inning since returning. Wood is on the DL, and when he gets back, if he gets back, I would expect the same treatment as Prior. That leaves Maddux, Clement, and Zambrano. The reality is without Clement or Zambrano the Cubs would be dead in the water, Maddux is nothing more than a glorified 4-5 starter, who still has enough to be successful in the NL, but would get ripped in the AL. That leaves the Cubs with significant starter question marks, just as the Sox. Bullpen: I dont know where you get the Cubs bullpen is so great, most teams know that is their most glaring weakness. Outside of Farnsworth as set up man, and Hawkins as closer the Cubs have really no players in any set position. Not only that, but by the end of the year, Marte will be the better set up man, and Shingo will be the better closer. Both teams face significant problems of bridging from the starter to the closer (6th 7th innings), and to not recognize that is foolish. Line up: The Cubs have a good line up, but will not produce as consistently as the White Sox, especially since they have a few players with weaker plate discipline. When Maggs is healthy, the White sox have the better line up, when he is not the Cubs have a slight edge. Coach: Both coachs make terrible mistakes, Ozzies are just becoming much more apparent. I would call it a draw because they are both player favorites, not because they are good at outdueling the other manager. In the end, the White Sox have a better chance at the playoffs because the Astros and Cardinals are better than the Indians and Twins. Both teams need to make a deal. SB
-
If your going to talk about far fetched trades, the one that would make sense for both sides is; Ordonez for A. Jones, Ortiz, cash. We might have to send a prospect, but Atlanta papers have been saying Jones can be had especially since hes slumping. Hed really solidfy our defense, and with our line up may be able to get back in the .280 30 hr, 100 rbi range. SB
-
Would anyone else prefer Adkins in close games at this point? Because I would. SB
-
Why Willie wasnt playing today Ill never understand. He is much better at working pitchers than Uribe and Rowand, and thats the type of player you need against Prior. Hopefully Ozzie has him starting tomorrow. SB
