  1. Then the ISA is actually pretty efficient, they had good profits and they renovated soldiers field expecting a return on investment. Its hard to put the whole picture together because there are multiple stadiums, and other revenues expenditures. SB
  2. My bad it is footnote 1, its hard to read the print. Some of the numbers are harder to read then others i thought it was 10, not 1 in brackets. SB
  3. Okay so this contains all of ISA's expenditures, and does not explicitly state where the Sox come in, or any other part about the White Sox really. And it just seems strange that the ISA went from making a consistent profit to huge losses in the last 2 years, in excess of 100's of millions for a redevelopment program. I dont know, from my perspective its just so much money. I wish I knew what the little number 10 was a footnote for, I bet it explains it. [i would also suggest you take it down, I doubt that you would get in trouble, but there is a possibility especially with it stating who the accountants are that they could get in trouble.] SB
  4. What is Lakefront improvement payments? $128 million in expenditures in 2002 $229 million in expenditures in 2003 SB
  5. Zero's Stats in Japan I was looking around for articles about Takatsu and found this site in English, havent really had time to look around that much but it does have all of his stats from Japan, and I think you can look back and see Sasaki's, or Ishii's to compare. Interestingly, Zero does not strike alot of people out, but of the batters faced, only 25% get hits, must be a lot of ground balls or fly balls. SB
  6. Its a trade that is about potential ability vs present ability. Burrel could come back to pre2003 or could hit sub .270 the rest of his career. Rollins could be great, or he could turn into Royce Clayton. Wolf is a good starter, could be great, could have a 4.5 era or more in the AL. Its a risk for the Sox to take if this trade is for real, especially if we have to give up a high level prospect. SB
  7. The pattern is outside of Ray Durham the Sox have not had a good 2b in a long damn time. And just mentioning Joey Cora as our coach makes me remember the days he was our 2b. SB
  8. I concur, I also had forgotten about Jiminez. I thought the bad news was going to be Steve Sax finally came through and became a real 2b. I have my decades confused. SB
  9. You play to get into the playoffs, once your there anything can and has happened. You can not put the cart before the horse, and you can not be such a defeatist. These are just teams, and if you can not think of a scenario where your team wins 11 games that really is a bigger problem than talking on a message board will solve. The Sox had the second best record in the AL in the second half last year, they lost to the Tigers more than any other team. They beat the Yankees 2 out of 3 times in Yankee stadium, they took it to the Red Sox and lost some close games. Had they made it to the playoffs anything could of happened, I would give anything to get the Sox into the playoffs, it all starts there. SB
  10. On another note, a Dodger website said on the Dan Patrick show it was repoted that Nomar would go to the White Sox who would trade him to the Angels for 2 pitchers. Id guess, Nomar for Percival and Washburn or Nomar for Wash or Ortiz, etc etc. Either way, Im just getting so damn sick of these huge rumors and nothing happened. I was all for the Nomar trade back in December when free agents were available etc, etc. But the time has come and gone, Sox just need to buckle up, try and trade Konerko for Perez, or something or just go to spring training and hope our own talent steps up in pitching. SB
  11. If I wrote that article I would hope that I was shot immediately. The day I root for any team out of New England is the day that ill be in the fetal position thinking that I too was cursed over a trade that happened 90 years ago. SB
  12. lol Dont shoot the messenger, I am just posting what Ive read about the new proposed A-Rod deal. Seems that the deal becomes more and more far fetched as time passes. SB
  13. Because you can keep Maggs and have much better options. 1) See if the Sox are in the race come the All-Star game, if they are keep Maggs and try and go to the playoffs, and perhaps sign him next offseason, or get draft picks. 2) If they are not in the playoff picture, trade Maggs for prospects to the highest bidder, come the All Star break teams who are in playoff contention would love to place Maggs in the middle of their lineup. Look at what it cost us to add Everett, and imagine what we can get for Maggs... 3) Beause Damon and Williamson are throw aways, and if we are trading Maggs, a player who even some Boston fans percieve as better than Manny, should we not be getting Miller, Mota, Perez, etc... That is what Boston is getting for Manny who is paid more, and is unwanted. Maggs is paid less, his contract will not handcuff most teams, and is not a clubhouse cancer like Ramirez. 4) The option of being $5mil over budget is not so horrendous that a good owner should not be able to overcome it. If JR is as good a businessman as he thinks he is, then he will not make a terrible mistake and sell low. You hold on to Maggs, and his value will get more and more as the All Star break approaches. What if Sheff gets hurt, what if JD Drew fails miserably, and so and so forth. Now teams are knocking at the Sox's door and saying "We need Maggs". SB
  14. Red Sox Trade Well lets just say how ridiculous this is. The Dodgers completely getting ripped off: Miller, Perez, Mota for Manny Ramirez, (have to wonder why they would want Ramirez when they could get Maggs for this price, save $$$ and not have his albatross contract hanging over their head. Even worse is the fact LA could of just taken him off waivers for free and not have to give up anything. I doubt that this has any semblence of truth, the White Sox getting Damon and Williamson, would need to be supplemented by some sort of prospect, or other cheap player. If you notice Boston gets to keep almost every good player in the deal Trade Williamson, keep the cheaper Mota. Trade Damon, keep Beltran Trade Manny, keep Maggs Trade Kapler, get Jenkins. Rangers get the second best trade. Milwaukee third best. And the lowly Dodgers and White Sox, the only way this trade can be facilitated get completely ripped off. Sorry, but I would rather keep Maggs and take our chances with what we have. I dont need nor want other teams castoffs. SB
  15. Yeah I know, sadly the Angels really do not need anything that the Sox have to offer, although I think the Angels have a bunch of guys the Sox could use. As for Davannon, I have never seen him play, just trying to come up with some guys who other teams likely want to move, or will lose who could fit into the Sox line up and provide them with a different look. Unless a suprise "blockbuster" trade happens, I think the Sox could still improve enough to make sure that they are in first or second place come All-Star break, and then be able to make a major move. SB
  16. I think that Chone Figgins of the Angels could be a really nice pick up if we could find something to trade the Angels. With the Addition of Vlad, Guillen, Figgins is now the odd man out unless they plan to play him at 2b. Figgins stats from last year: 2003 71 240 34 71 9 4 0 27 20 38 13 7 .296 .345 .367 .711 And in played both CF and 2b: 2003 Ana 2B 14 12 105 51 23 27 1 6 .980 4.29 .957 2003 Ana CF 44 40 354 109 108 1 0 0 1.000 2.77 .876 If the Sox are trying to imitate the Marlin's or get some speed at the top of the order, Figgins and Harris could be a poor mans version of Castillo and Pierre. Figgins SB are considerably lower than Pierre's first season, but he may be able to improve those numbers if he is given the chance to steal more frequently. I would try and offer the Angels Valentine for Washburn,Ortiz, Percival, (or any other $5mil or salary player) and Figgins. Angels would then have Eckstien as their super utility guy instead of Figgins, and have improved their power at SS. The reality is next years Angels are not going to be stealing alot of bases, etc with the lineup they have. Why not put a 20+ hr SS in your lineup when it is only costing you something you already have enough of. I doubt it happens, but Uribe, Figgins, and Harris (Or Rowand) up the middle would be fast and hopefully a defensive upgrade that would give our team some speed that we have been lacking. If we could add a SP or good bullpen pitcher, that would be all the better. SB
  17. Kind of a skewed vote. Most of us are active posters on a baseball message board, which means we are pretty dedicated fans. Dedicated fans rarely want less of the thing they are dedicated to. Unfortunately most people arent as dedicated to the sport, and could care less because they games dont "count". SB
  18. The Sox wont be contracted, it just does not make sense. Why would Reinsdorf be making Comiskey Park better if he thought he was not going to be getting his return on the investment. Maybe he just wanted to give Comiskey a $50million dollar face lift as a present to the City of Chicago before he contracted the Sox. Yeah right, Sox wont be contracted, they probably are not even in the top 10 of teams that are thought of. The Sox are the staple of the AL Central, with out Chicago it would have only midsize cities, just not a good formula. SB
  19. Frank Thomas called me and said he would be out drinking with his friends instead of going to Sox Fest, it has nothing to do with Ozzie, but instead has to do with the White Sox will not give him the prime location for selling autographs and they are using more pictures of Magglio on their press releases. Look I can make up a story as an unnamed sorc too. Unless there are quotations around what Frank Thomas said, the unnamed source did not even have to have talked to Frank for the reporter to print that. Since Thomas is a public figure, unless the writer wrote the piece with "malice", in legal terms actual knowledge that Frank Thomas did not say that, then he can print whatever he wanted. So take what you read with a grain of salt if there are no quotations, in most cases it is either fabricated or I heard from a friend who heard form a friend. SB
  20. Its fantasy based, so certain players have more value based on position. Harder for Lee to break top 50 when he is going up against Bonds, Pujols, etc.. SB
  21. Preferablly Scho or Person will be in the 5th or 4th spot, unless Rauch, Pacheo, Diaz, or Cotts just flat out beat them in Spring Training. If not, then put the veterans in the rotation and hope that they keep us close in games, and our offense can keep us above .500 until the All Star break where we trade for another starter. Id really like to see some of these starters get some reps at AAA, so they feel more confident going to the big league club. SB
  22. I think that Boras has poisoned I-Rod's mind. I sincerely doubt that I-Rod ever thought he would make this much money in his life time when he was a kid, let alone make it every season for 10 years or so. It is very hard for a player not to listen to their agent, players are not negotiators and many of them would be eaten alive if put in a room with a Cashman etc. So they listen to their Agent believing in good faith that their agent is doing what is best for THEM, not what is best for the agent's pocket. In the next 5 years I expect their to be many more agent player clashes, where the player feels that the agent is not representing his needs and just plain being greedy. Boras has already tainted so many of his players in the eyes of owners that they are being blackballed consistently: Maddux- Unsigned Weaver- Unwanted Milwood- No long term deal, had to accept arbitration. I-Rod- Going to Tigers, or will have to accept another 1 year deal. That is not exactly a good track record of getting your clients goals met. Oh well let I-Rod have fun in Detroit, I bet next year if hes had to suffer through 90-100 losses I-Rod will be wishing he signed for $8mil with a winner. SB
  23. The MLBPA is not as strong as everyone thinks, just the owners are so weak and petty that they never will take it to them. The best way to get the goals of world wide draft, etc are to be accomplished would be to get agents such as Boras mad that his clients are subject to a draft, but foreign players who usually have foreign agents are not. So MLB is lining the pockets of foreign agents while restricting US agents. Not to mention US players are screwed over because they are subject to a draft and can not sign with any team, unlike foreign players. Gotta make the players union turn on itself, perhaps say if there is a foreign draft, then they will allow draft picks to be traded, or another concession. Baseball has to many antiquated ways, look at the NBA, all players are subject to the draft, whether they are from New York or Yugoslavia. Selig is just a puppet with strings being pulled by to many masters. SB
  24. Ill just say this. Ive seen whats behind door number 1, Im willing to take my chances with door number 2. Nothing in life is certain, just more probable occurrences. I think that it is more probable that Trump will be a better owner than Reinsdorf. SB
  25. I agree that the Sox are a logical choice for Trump if he truly is interested in a franchise. Other franchises are just to expensive with little room for improvement, or cheap and not in a good market. SB
