Nice work! The site has been up for over 15 years, so small bit of downtime is no big deal at all.

Good news is that now everything made of steel and aluminium will cost more. What a time to be alive.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 01:42 PM) I dont understand a word of his tweet or what he shared from Assange. Care to cliff notes that s***? From what I can tell, some show called "Morning Joe" argued that the messages from Wikileaks to Roger Stone asking Roger Stone to stop saying he coordinated with them was proof that Roger Stone had contact with Wikileaks. Without seeing the tape its hard to tell, but if they said it proves "contact" that is technically correct, although misleading. What I think he meant to argue was that it disproves coordination between the two. Seems like a lot of the problems are due to bad wording. For example if Stone said "I was never in contact with Wikileaks" these dms would prove that false. But he may have meant to say "i never coordinated" the problem again is when you use imprecise language it leads to nonsense arguments.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 12:59 PM) I think they should keep the system as is, but add a rule that you can't pick in the lottery more than 2 years in a row. So you get two chances, then you're bumped down to #15. This is a good start, but I think fairer would be you cant be top 5 in 2 straight drafts (unless you pick obtained via trade.) 15 is too harsh. -
2018 Winter Olympics Thread
Soxbadger replied to LittleHurt05's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 02:11 PM) I thought these winter olympics were really well done and enjoyable. Very much was entertained and NBC had our households nightly coverage pretty much the entire two weeks (when we had the TV on). Yep I thought they were well done. I think they could improve a little with showing more events late night, but I get that they want to try and keep their primetime numbers higher. -
HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THAT HERO? Lets attack the paid students.

My mom's office went to see Black Panther. It was the first Marvel movie she ever saw, and she said that it was surprisingly good. Now every time I hear about the movie I think about a bunch of suburban women watching it.

I like the irony that Trump's inlaws could be "chain" immigrants and that all of Trump's children have an "immigrant" for a mother. Wonder if the subject ever comes up at dinner parties.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 01:57 PM) What is the over/under for when a kid gets pissed off at his 115 lb. teacher, overpowers her and grabs her gun? Students are going to steal the guns. Teachers have enough distractions as it is, they are trying to watch 20-30 people at the same time. All it takes is planning and a diversion. But I heard arming teachers will be cheaper, because well now they are doing 2 jobs for the price one. Great deal for our teachers!

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) What are we going to do when these f’ed up kids start realizing how easy it is to make pipe bombs from everyday materials? I’m so surprised that never happens and I’m scared to death of the day it starts. No laws will be able to help anybody. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) Making functional explosives is much more difficult than purchasing a gun off the shelf from Bass Pro or going the even easier private sales route. They tried to make them at Columbine. They just didnt do it correctly. Making a bomb isnt as easy as buying a gun. Some people could do it, but I doubt an impulse shooter like the most recent one would have had the time/patience/space to do it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 02:07 PM) okay cool now that you've gotten that pedantic quibble over his specific rhetoric done with maybe we can actually return to the topic at hand /shrugs Just trying to point out how things like that can be detrimental to the arguments.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 01:54 PM) Nah, check my edit. He had a follow-up with links. It's from multiple studies. There's no twisting here and your guess was wrong. He's a guy who's known for writing about civil liberties and police. That doesn't mean everything he says should be taken as gospel, but he is a reliable and knowledgeable source specifically in this field. If Tom Skilling tells me it's going to be 60 degrees and sunny today, I don't demand that he link all of his weather models. And it still goes back to his statement being directly relevant. The reason he posted links is because my original critique was valid. You cant just say something like that and not provide any source material. Comparing him to Tom Skilling is pretty bad, and I think you know that as well. That being said, the articles he cited do not support his contention of "More likely" to be beaten or body slammed. Those numbers would be impossible to prove, because there is no way to determine how many students were beaten/body slammed prior to the police being there. A better post would have been: "Studies have shown that police presence could have a negative impact." That is supported by the facts and cant be parsed as easily to show faulty methodology.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 01:38 PM) Just because you don't have a citation to data on hand doesn't mean it's just an opinion, come on. That doesn't even make sense. It's a claim, and maybe you want to see the data to support a claim and that's fine, but that doesn't make it "opinion." It's either true or not. There's plenty of research on the "school-to-prison pipeline" if you want to dig into it, and expecting that every tweet someone makes has full academic citations is just silly. Anyway, the point still stands that "what affects does putting police in schools have?" is still directly relevant to the idea that we should put more police in schools. You can twist it however you like, but if you dont present the evidence to support your claim, how can I verify that the data exists? Where did I ask for "full academic citations?" If youre going to post something as fact, then at minimum you could say "based on research by" or "in a study done by" so that I could at least attempt to find the data. What you posted provides no way of verifying the claim. My guess is that its because its opinion. I mean what research do you think includes whether students were more likely to be "body slammed" before or after a security guard was hired?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 01:24 PM) He's a libertarian researcher/writer on criminal justice and civil liberties for WaPo and I think CATO? He does good, detailed work and I'm sure he has data to back up his claims there. I think it's really important that people consider secondary effects of proposals like "put more armed cops/ex-vets in schools!" Maybe that makes mass shootings less likely, but what other potential effects does it have? What impact SRO's have is directly relevant to how good of an idea "more cops and guns in schools" is. It's similar to the "well I need a gun and an ability to carry a gun to protect myself in public from all of the potential guns!" Zero consideration that, maybe, if guns were's so readily available you wouldn't feel the need to carry a deadly weapon on yourself for protection all the time. If he has data then he should cite it and post it so that people can review it. Otherwise its opinion. And I have no problem with people saying "In my opinion" and discussing ideas. I dont necessarily think armed guards/police will make a huge difference, but Im also not going to start the discussion by alleging a litany of bad things happen without providing any evidence to support it. If I call people out on these boards for that, then I would expect someone who is a "researcher/writer" to be held to a higher standard than "random message board poster."
-
Not sure who that guy is, but statements like that dont help the discussion. Security guards/police etc exceeding their authority has very little relevance to this issue. Not to mention whoever that guy is, provides no data to support his premise (doubtful that any such data is even possible to exist.) Its fine to express your opinion, but I just dont like when people try and pass their opinion off as fact.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 01:05 PM) SoxBadger where are you? Sorry was out for the weekend, but I thought you said as a moderator of this board that anyone could post whatever bulls*** they wanted in this thread? Last I checked Im not one, so not sure why you are griping to me. Im still waiting on you to present some evidence to contradict what Seth Rich's family said. /shrugs

https://www.yahoo.com/news/republican-lawma...-155008158.html Senate Judiciary committee is getting push back from WH/Sessions on bill that would potentially reduce sentences for nonviolent offenders. Seems like the only people that Trump and Co care to protect are violent offenders.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) You and Dick haven't addressed any of the particulars. I am saying it isn't a random incidence that's it. You guys are just naming other things and saying conspiracy a bunch to shut down discussion. Then you usually ramble off topic for a while. All your link says is police say "looked like" a robbery. That's it. You're naive for taking CNN's word for it. Keep doing the "move the thread" thing to shut down discussion you can't handle. I am a mod and have talked about shutting this thread down so it wouldn't become a catch all and it was decided to keep the thread open despite it being a catch all. I am waiting for you to police SS and caulfield on posting irrelevant stuff. I am sure you'll get around to it eventually. He's a creep. Look him up. He's been accused of sexual assault and you're comparing him to victims. Keep defending the assaulter. How am I off topic? I have stayed completely on topic the entire time. What part of my last post was not on topic? Seriously, instead of just lying your way through posts try and be responsive. Here is the truth, when the evidence doesnt suit you, you hand waive it. What I posted wasnt quoting CNN, it was quoting Seth Rich's mother. If you dont believe his mother, that is fine. But Im pretty sure she has had access to better information than you, I or any of those conspiracy theorists who you are so hellbent on believing. Instead of thinking for yourself, you just parrot over and over again. You barely research, you barely link, you barely cite, you just post opinion after opinion, and then make up nonsense about other posters when you dont have anything to say. Show any evidence that what Seth's mother said is a lie. You want to say "im naive" for believing his mother, show me something to suggest his mother is a liar. Or maybe shes part of this conspiracy too? Here is a statement from his family (im sure youll call me naive for believing them but hey, I guess I should believe Joe Rogan) https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/wer...m=.db256ffae461 So now please, write another post how Ive "changed the subject", "im not responding", or whatever other nonsense you want to say. People know your shtick by now, so Im just going to hang up and Ill let you try and find 1 piece of reliable evidence that contradicts what Seth Rich's family said. Because at this point you are either saying 1) they are liars or 2) they were part of the conspiracy. And I really dont think many people will find it believable that Seth Rich's parents would lie to protect the DNC or Hillary Clinton. /shrug

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:55 PM) A democratic IT Director being murdered in the middle of the night with no explanation, no suspects and gag order is much like the the parents who lost their kids in a tragedy and the "people" (there's one person) that own Comet Ping Pong? What are you talking about? And why are you comparing parents who lost their children to one of the most powerful people in DC who is alleged of sexual assault? It's pathetic that people completely ignore facts when it doesn't suit their agent. Just eat up whatever the corporate media tells them. The problem is that you keep saying its pathetic when people ignore facts, when you are the one doing it. https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/24/us/seth-rich...ries/index.html The police have provided an explanation for his murder, robbery gone bad. You just dont accept this explanation. You dont accept the facts that Rich was in an area where there had recently been armed robberies, that there was evidence of an attempted robbery and that likely the robbers got spooked when they saw/heard the police car that was in the area and that Seth Rich made no statements after the police found him to suggest that it was anything but an armed robbery gone bad. Notice how the bold completely contradicts what all the conspiracy theorists want you to believe. "Why didnt they take his stuff?" Well according to the evidence, they attempted to, but did not get away with any of it. The reality is that there never may be a conclusion to this case. But all of the evidence supports the theory that it was a robbery gone bad. Is there anyway a moderator can move all of these Seth Rich posts to a new thread for the conspiracy, that way we dont detract from a thread that has nothing to do with it.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:52 AM) I 100% agree that this kids history of mental health treatment, legal and school troubles, etc. should have put him on a list and he should never have been able to purchase/possess any gun. But people blaming the FBI for not doing something...there's nothing they can do until he makes a legitimate threat. Under our current system, I agree 100%. But if we perhaps had different laws, maybe the FBI could have prevented him from getting the gun. The cultural problem is that we cant have a meaningful discussion on why gun ownership may be better off considered a "privilege" as opposed to a "right." If owning a gun is a "privilege" then it is easier to make rules that could help the FBI and law enforcement keep guns out of the hands of certain people. Now again, this wont 100% solve all problems but really how can people with a straight face argue that the shooter had a "right" to own a gun. Maybe one day people can have this discussion because our society needs to change. This amount of violence is not acceptable and clearly people arent adult enough to handle this "right."
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:45 AM) From the NYT it sounds like the local police new the kid because the mother would call them in hopes of curbing his behavior. But I still don't think there's anything they could have done in terms of charges or jail time. Jenks, What about this: Do you think with all of those police reports, being expelled from school, making threats about becoming a school shooter on the internet, that his ability to purchase a gun should have been revoked at least temporarily? Or perhaps that the govt should have had the right to confiscate his weapons? This is the problem. You could create rules that would make it less likely for people who are threats to get guns, but certain politicians are so hellbent on making sure that everyone/anyone can get a gun and a moments notice, that they dont even want any restrictions.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 07:07 PM) You provide no support whatsover. Shocking. I wonder why neither you or SB can't provide any support? Just throw out claims and slander and change the subject when called on it. At this point your just flat out lying. You constantly misconstrue my statements to fit your narrative. You keep asking me to "What specifically did they present as fact that was untrue." I never said "untrue". I said "Fun 10 minutes of conspiracy theories presented as facts though." There is a huge difference. I then responded specifically by saying that the whole "primary rigging" was opinion. They also went into a whole discussion about Hillary and brain trauma, with Rogan saying that he "knows brain trauma." Again this opinion, to the best of my knowledge neither of them are doctors, nor did they treat Hillary. All of that was responsive, none of what I said could even come close to being construed as "slander", and that is giving you the benefit of the doubt, because what you really meant was "libel", as slander is spoken. Just so you know, opinion is never defamation. And as both of those people would likely be considered public figures, youd have to show actual malice to prove libel. But again this is just another tactic by you to distract and obscure. You still have yet to answer why you posted this in this thread. The most simple question. You keep bringing up what Brazile said, but then when a quote by her contradicts, you dont even respond. You instead quote a huge article that doesnt support that Brazille said it was rigged. The article you posted showed how Clinton's campaign was more clever than Sanders. That she negotiated a deal with the DNC and Sanders did not. Brazille even comments about how Bernie's people didnt seem to care about the document. If football team a creates a formation that is legal and then runs it against team b, does that mean the refs "rigged" the game? Was not team b also capable of reading the rules? So why not be honest? I dont even know what your angle is at this point. You come running into an unrelated thread and post conspiracy theories. Why? Really, that is actually all I was curious to. Why are you posting this in the Trump thread? You could have started a "Seth Rich" thread, where you could write about the conspiracy all day and night. And if youre in a giving mood, answer why you cant have a genuine discussion. Why do you have to constantly misrepresent people and their opinions? I have my own theories, but Id just be interested for you one time to have a genuine discussion. Maybe it will never happen, but that is my hope for you. Because while I may disagree with you on many things, I do really believe that you could make quality arguments and posts, that could possibly make people think and respect your position.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 05:28 PM) She was the head of DNC. There are posts on this forum with me responding to her being replaced by Perez. Stick to the issue instead of trying to turn it on me. There's a record of me knowing this. She was the head when it happened. She said it was rigged. It's interesting that you think you need to change votes to constitute something being rigged. I guess you'd agree that Russia stuff is garbage. You say that they're misrepresenting facts and you provide nothing. Two posts no explanation. Just distractors. Jimmy Dore runs a left-wing youtube show. Your parallel makes no sense. If he were Mark Dice it would make sense. He's a liberal attacking another liberal because that's what the facts lead him to do. You are yet to post something they misrepresented. It wasnt whether you knew it, it was for me the reader. How do I know who you are referring to, if you dont name them. How do I know what they said, if you dont quote them or link them. You keep saying " she said it was rigged". I have posted 2 quotes that directly contradict what you just said. You still havent provided any evidence to support what your contention is. In comparison, I provided 2 direct quotes from Brazille that are contradictory to what the podcasts said. How is that "providing nothing". As for the Russia comment, that is seriously a garbage comparison. I cant recall anyone saying "Russia rigged" the election. I believe that people have said Russia "interfered" with the election. Ive actually started to wonder if you believe what you are writing, or if you just think that playing these type of games is fun.

Why are we destroying this thread with Seth Rich conspiracy talk? That will be the topic of my podcast later, in which I conclude it is a conspiracy by people to bury bad news about Trump.
