QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 05:11 PM) The head of the DNC believed it was rigger against Sanders. You didn't provide any examples of falsities they presented as fact. If youre going to say something, be kind enough to quote or cite who said it. I dont know who the "head of the DNC is" but Donna Brazille said: https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/05/politics/don...gged/index.html http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/36030...were-overturned Im not going to relisten to the podcast, if you can get me a transcript Ill go through it and point out the specific statements. You still havent explained how this is relevant to this thread.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 04:54 PM) What specifically did they present as fact that was untrue. How is it a conspiracy theory if they're just stating the facts? This is an unsolved murder. There is no confirmed story. They said that the primary was rigged against Bernie Sanders. This is opinion. Conspiracy theories are based on facts. The definition of conspiracy theory has nothing to do with facts, evidence, truth or fiction. It is: Conspiracy theory: a belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for a circumstance or event. or from dictionary.com: a theory that explains an event as being the result of a plot by a covert group or organization; a belief that a particular unexplained event was caused by such a group. By definition the implication that the DNC/Clinton were responsible for Rich's death and the rigging of the primary are "conspiracy theories."

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 04:51 PM) There is no argument that Jimmy Dore isn't a liberal. He's a huge Bernie guy and advocating "we" get together to keep HRC from ruining the Democratic party. He identifies publicly as a liberal. Rogan is arguable I guess but he believes in universal basic income, is progressive on most social issues and says he is liberal on most issues. Not shocked the post is made about them instead of what they said. They talked about conspiracy theories that have no relation to the current administration. Not sure what anyone could say to it? Unless I missed something, there was no new evidence in the podcast. It was just old evidence being rehashed by two guys who have no direct access to any part of the investigation. Its fun, just like watching "Ancient Aliens" is fun. But since I am not a part of the investigation, nor do I have any access to any of the actual evidence, my response would be nothing more than conjecture and hearsay. Which again, if people want my theory based on conjecture/hearsay (much like the podcast), id say that while the timing is odd, there is 0 credible evidence to suggest that there was some massive cover up. Maybe someday in the future someone will come out and prove that wrong. But if someone had that information, youd think they would have wanted to monetize it. But again, isnt there a "Seth Rich" thread or perhaps a general "Govt Conspiracy" catch all thread where this would be better suited? We could put the podcats with Dore on "building 7" there.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 03:58 PM) A couple of liberals in Joe Rogan and Jimmy Dore talking about Seth Rich. Bring in the character deconstruction! Not sure what this has to do with Trump or what you mean by "liberal." But both identify as independents, and many people think Rogan is a closet conservative. Fun 10 minutes of conspiracy theories presented as facts though.

QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 02:24 PM) Sounds like a big school shooting down in Florida. Reports are at least 20 are injured.

Id have to see the agreement, but the more I think about it, I think he may have screwed up. The disclosure to the FEC likely wasnt a problem, but once he started giving interviews it was no longer part of a subpoena so he may have really made a huge mistake.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 12:39 PM) But I didn't try to enforce religious morality through legislature nor did I support doing so. I didn't make comments about gay marriage which I have always been in favor of. These would be great points if I actually did the things you're projecting to me. I am not religious. I don't believe religion has a place in politics. You're barking up the wrong tree. EH? I dont remember addressing my post to you, I was just saying that its an issue because the party he represents has made this an issue. And that its hypocritical for those in his party who have tried to enforce religion through legislature and the courts, not to enforce the same against him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 12:32 PM) I adore Altered Carbon. First 2 eps took some time to get going, but since then it's just been f***ing wild. Finished it last night. Biggest issue is that I feel it was too condensed.
-
The reason its an issue is because conservatives have tried to enforce religious morality through the legislature and judiciary. If you cant see the hypocrisy in something like "Gay marriage should be banned because its against my religion" and then being okay with adultery, there is simply no point in discussing. I personally dont care what he did with another consenting adult. And since Trump has 0 credibility, his lies are just normal for someone like him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 02:53 PM) Just happened this afternoon. My cousin is an ex cop and just got the alert he died. It was his old commander https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/person-sh...hompson-center/ The articles keep saying "assisting a tactical team", but I cant seem to find why a tactical team was in the middle of the loop. Also nobody is reporting that it was fatal yet, so your cousin has inside information.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 09:41 AM) I think he was asking more about getting pick like 5 in exchange for picks 9 and 14. Unless you add in a future 1st or one of the Bulls young players I dont think other teams are even going to consider it. Depending on how you view Young, 5/6 is the real drop off point. -
2018 NFL off-season thread

Jimmy Garoppolo got paid a lot of money. -
Greg, I saw the article on yahoo news. But outside of this thread, not a single person I work with, saw today or heard from mentioned it at all. Its really a nonstory that is being pandered to create fauxrage at the mythical "PC" culture. I will agree that there is no need to insult etc. I hope that you realize I try and treat you with respect and provide legitimate discussion about the issues, even if we may disagree. I also hope that one day by being reasonable and respectful, Ill be able to open your eyes to thinking for yourself and asking if what you are "hearing" make sense. Just think for yourself. Dont get outraged because some guy on the radio/tv who is paid to sensationalize false outrage told you to. There are so many things to be really outraged about, father daughter dances arent one of them. Especially when the premise of the outraged is based on false information.

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 05:31 PM) Having school events and stopping half the students is a bad plan. Fathers and daughters can go on "dates" during their own time. Damn I completely missed the whole Trump wants to date his daughter comedic angle. No wonder why all the Trumps are upset.
-
I remember when I was outraged about take your daughter to work day and having to go to school an extra day. Then where my dad worked created a take your kids to work day, but it was in the summer, so i didnt get a day off of school. Unfortunately Glenn Beck wasnt around to fauxrage out about this injustice. Now its take your daughter and son to work day, so do you think Trump/Hannity/Beck and co are going to get all fauxraged about how sons shouldnt be allowed, and that taking your daughters was a time honored tradition that PC culture ruined?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 01:58 PM) I did enjoy reading your post. It was a good one. You are obviously a smart person and appear to be a very good person (I shouldn't have written that line because you will say you don't care what a message board person thinks of you any way, so my bad). I did notice this sentence that I posted above. I would suggest she will want to go to the dance and you will go to the dance in this scenario. Why? Because these dances are fun for the little girls hanging out with their friends, etc. That's why these issues over fauxrage get brought up. We have all these fun events that now must be canceled because of gender issues, etc., and that leaves us with what? More of nothing cept having the kids get fat and happy playing on their computer and playing games on the computer. Are we going to get rid of sports next? Remember not everybody is capable of being on the team. I'm sure that makes several kids sad and unhappy and perhaps to the point of severe mental depression. How can we have sports in this scenario?? When I was a kid if you didn't make the team you better find another team to get on, try another sport or another club activity. If this PC stuff continues, we will have a whole bunch of nothing happening in this world for kids. Again, why cant the solution be a "dance" where the kid can bring 1 person? Why does it have to be father and daughter? As for sports, that is completely different. You are talking about merit. This dance isnt "top 10 dancers" get to go. If your a girl you can go, if your a boy you cant. SS2k, Yeah I know but its a slow day.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) You said: "I actually think it somewhat problematic. Not every kid has a father who is a part of their life, I dont really see the need for schools to exacerbate this issue." But this is one of the problems. There always are going to be exceptions. So the solution is never to have an event of any kind because it might exclude somebody. So we have no events and our kids just continue to sit on the couch and play video games cause there's no events to be had because of PC. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 01:48 PM) I'm sure there have been many creative solutions to the daddy-daughter dance concern of a child having no daddy in the past. My guess is an uncle comes through or a dear friend neighbor. Or a teacher or somebody important in the kid's life. I would suspect in the many daddy-daughter dances in the past there have been ways to make sure all the girls who want to go do indeed go and have a good time with their friends, getting off the couch and actually living life instead of playing video games all night, all day because of PC culture and fear of letting kids actually get out and be kids amongst themselves. Um how do you reach these conclusions? How does Father daughter dance, mean stay at home and play video games? And even more importantly, how are video games at all PC? Have you played an online video game? Because online is basically the least pc place in the world. Again, why do we need father daughter dances? Why cant we have a "dance" where the student can pick 1 person to go with them. They want to bring their mom/dad/aunt/older brother, why do I care? This isnt anything new. Back in the day my school used to have a day where you could bring a family member to school. They werent stupid enough to restrict it to "grandparent" or "father" because why exclude? If I want to bring my aunt, instead of my grandparents, why shouldnt I be able to? If my grandparents are dead, why should I have to sit out "Grandparents" day. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 01:52 PM) Supposedly Glenn Beck torched the topic today on his show. I don't listen to his show before u all freak out. Why should we care what Glenn Beck says? Asking for a friend.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 01:40 PM) Please don't turn this into a blast Greg issue. It's all over Twitter and the websites of news organizations. I'm not making this one up. People are outraged. And from what I read in other stories the dance was to be canceled before the outrage. Whatever the specifics this is a big deal. I'm not finding some obscure story. Do a twitter search on daddy-daughter dances. The story I linked is from a Staten Island newspaper. I dont care whats on twitter, news sites or anywhere else. I purposefully dont read nonsense sensational stories that are meant to create fauxrage. If your kid doesnt go to the school, what does it matter to you? Im sure that there were parents fauxraged about the fact that at the "Holiday Concert" they sang other songs besides for "Christmas" ones. Im sure that there were other parents who were fauxraged that Christmas was the only Holiday that got 2 songs. Or maybe they were fauxraged that they didnt interview a kid and ask them about Hannukah like they did Christmas or Dewali. But why isnt that on your talk shows? Why isnt Hannity and Rush outraged by the fact that Christmas was over represented in local kids holiday concert. Or what about the fauxrage over "Local apartment has Christmas tree in lobby but no other religion is represented." Have you ever noticed what these people say always fits into their world view? That they never run or tell you a story that is ever contrary to their position? Why would I care what a bunch of hacks say? I said what I feel. You want to argue why father daughter dances are somehow important for a public school? You want to argue why tax dollars should go to it? Feel free. But I stand by my argument, they seem unnecessary. And if my daughters school has one, Ill go if she wants. If they dont, Im not going to go to my safe place and cry snowflake tears about how PC culture has ruined everything.
-
I actually think it somewhat problematic. Not every kid has a father who is a part of their life, I dont really see the need for schools to exacerbate this issue. When I was a kid there werent mommy/son dances, I dont believe that there even were father/daughter dances either. So this "outrage" against PC culture, seems a few decades to late. If youre school wants to have one, whatever. If they dont want to have one, whatever. Not sure this should register on the President of the United States radar, seems like there are 100 trillion more important things that he should be spending his time on. And there is nothing stopping the fathers from renting out a local establishment and having their own dance. http://www.silive.com/news/2018/02/post_1947.html And that article explains what the school was actually doing. They were postponing it to make it more inclusive. If you strip out the sensational Hannity/Rush style headline, its not even that big of a deal. It was never cancelled. (edit) Greg, Instead of listening to talk shows. Try and read for yourself.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/act-kindness-h...-162103214.html https://www.desertsun.com/story/sports/high...jab/1087515001/ Not sure where to put this, but maybe we should have a thread for "good/positive" news stories. Short version is that Nike supplied a random High Schooler with a semi-custom hijab so that they could continue playing HS basketball. A coach at hjer school had been on the Nike site looking for custom shoes (for himself) and started talking to a customer service agent about her issue. The customer service rep then sent the hijab to the coach. (I made some corrections, it wasnt actually her coach, but he does coach at the school.)

Im 3 episodes into Altered Carbon and I personally like it so far.

I dont think there is anything wrong with Jabba being in the story (he may even be necessary). I think Fett could be in it, but it would be more of a side character as there wasnt anything that seemed to suggest Han knew Fett at all. Vader/Tarkin would be an extreme stretch but you could write a story where Han is smuggling something that Vader wanted. But that would seem to just be an attempt to make money off Vader's likeness, and not sure if the Skywalker estate would allow it.

What do you call it when someone falsely accuses the President of not being American? Before I just thought you called them stupid, but now I guess anytime you disagree with the President its treason?

The New Front in the Gerrymandering Wars: Democracy vs. Math
Soxbadger replied to StrangeSox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 12:40 PM) SCOTUS declined to hear the case, thankfully. So if the GOP state senators keep refusing to follow court orders, what happens next? Any way for the state SC to actually force a new map in before the elections? Penn SC said theyd make their own map. And Judges can sign warrants, so my guess is that the Republican's will begrudgingly figure it out before people with handcuffs come to their house.
