  1. OK,. check this out. ABC has a slide show of 13 political sex scandals. Guess how many of them who are Dems actually are named as Dems? And then guess how many who are Repubs are named as repubs? No cheating, guess before you look. If I counted right, they picked 5 Dems and 7 Repubs. How many of each were named as such? http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Blotter/pop...x=1&page=13 And for all those liberal who claim that there is no bias, the old media can put a stop to this any time they want by instituting a style guideline, that says something like a politician's party affiliation must be mentioned inthe first paragraph or when their name is first mentioned. But they don't, so they can just move that little D or R around to wherever it seems to fit best for them in the story, paragraph 1 or 15.
  2. How long until someone tries to blame this on Rove and 'illegal Bush wiretaps'?
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 12:21 AM) Did he act alone? Yes. Did he receive aid and comfort from Christian Identity folks in North and South Carolina while in hiding, who knew exactly what he did there and at other abortion clinics and gay bars? Yes. So I think the plural works fine. Oh and Catholic is a Christian faith, knightni. He identified himself as part of the Christian Identity movement before, now he's identifies as a Catholic. There was no subtext there. I'm sure you would. And because you have a lone 'Christian' nutbag cause this disturbance, it somehow cancels all the disruptions caused by people identifying themselves with other religions? How many acts of terrorism have been carried out in the name of Christ in the last 50 years? Compare that to the amount done in the name of Allah. The Christian attacks are probably even outnumbered by the enviro-wackos like ELF. They are not on the same playing field, so to mention him as any kind of comparrison to Islamist terrorists is absurd. That being said, I am concerned about how the article mentioned China's real lack of anti-terrorism abilities. All we need are Islamist terrorists taking the Israeli athletes (or Americans) hostage or blowing up their dorm building or something. The world as a whole doesn't need the kind of instability that would cause. Gas would triple, people would panic and stocks would tumble, and it would not be a good thing.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) The last terrorist attack on the Olympics involved Christian Extremists, no? I think that should be singular, not plural. UNless you are suggesting he was trained at some secret Al-Jesus traingin camp in the Bible belt or something.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) They're gerrymandered alright. But I don't see how that connects with the number of them, or the number of residents they serve. Think about it another way. Most of the suburbs have less than 60,000 residents. And they have a mayor/town manager, and a whole city council. Yeah, but the suburban city council people usually don't get a staff and budget of $40,000+ and office and have the ability to steer multi-million dollar contracts on a regular basis.
  6. Hey guys, back to the aldermen for a sec, each one now only serves about 60,000 residents. And have you looked at a ward map lately? The gerrymandering done on some of these warss is pretty bad. There really shouldn't be any reason why the city couldn't do with 10-15 less of them. Ans sure, it would be a drop in the bucket over all, but you have to start somewhere, right?
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) And the reason for your highlighting job? I just found it oddly curious that China of all places was having problems with Islamic terrorists. I thought they hated the Great Satan for simply being, and hated us and our allies for being in Iraq and Afganistan. I don't see China in those places, or even on the same side as the US, so that struck me as odd.
  8. Does Chicago really need 50 alderman? Los Angeles only has 15. I think New York has 50, but really, with that many of them, they are just parasites on the tax base, and job pools for family members.
  9. In general, I would fear for the olympics. We have had posts here arguing that the atheletes should refrain from political statements and such while at the games, but I think that it would be the terrorist scumbags (of ALL ideologies, faiths and political persuasions) trying to make political statements we should worry about more.
  10. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,336250,00.html I would bet that these guys would give their left nut to be in Guantanamo instead of whereever it is thet Chinese have them now.
  11. How about we trade our Uribe for Columbia's President Uribe. He has some stones, and maybe he can throw better than Marquis.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) atleast no one on the Sox has a twisted testicle Wasn't that the heavy metal band with dick snyder as the lead singer?
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) This is for Alpha... sorry no link, it is out of Thursday's Sun Times in the Quick Takes column... News Item: Moses was on drugs when he heard God deliver the 10 commandments, a researcher claims in a new study. In other news, thousands of outrages Christians made death threats against the researcher and rioted across-- Wait. No death threats or riots? Hmmm. Yeah, i saw that somewhere. There was also a small fake post about Christians rioting and stuff. Funny, eh?
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) McCain vs. an NYT reporter today. From what he has been known to do, I would hardly call that losing his temper. More like putting a brat back in her place. A much better response than Obama saying 'Hey, I answered 8 questions, that's enough' and leaving just because he didn't like the questions, or the reporter.
  15. I am also suprised I didn't gain this week. For some people, stress causes weight loss. Opposite for me. But at least I didn't gain. I did, however, discover by accident that I can now fit into a pair of jeans that only last year were so tight I had to do suck the gut in just to attempt to close.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) So fine, since your issue with this has nothing to do with the actual accommodation and has more to do with the religion that these people are - I think we're done arguing here. At least until you post your next thread about Americans who happen to be muslim exercising their religious freedom in a country that guarantees it. I'm done. I didn't say I wouldn't have issues with it otherwise, but the fact that it is yet another group of Muslims trying to get something or someone in the US to bow to their ways instead of adapting and going on does set me off. Would you be defending this if the group was something different? Someone on here asked if it would be ok if straight guys wanted gym time away from gays. How about if it was a group of ultra-conservative Christians who didn't want men gawking at their pure bodies for Christ and wanted some alone time? Can't have those evil lecherous men checking them out while they exercise, that would be bad,and could lead to impure thoughts! And yes, I would have a problem if they set aside time for them as well. Would you? Exercise your religion (and body) all you want. But quit trying to turn us into the EU. France and the UK are too f***ed up from all their bending over to accommodate and I don't want the US to be the same way.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) Why the outrage? Not because the accomodation, not because they're women but because these women happen to be muslim. Yes. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) For all the talk about media bias in this forum, you sure neglect to note the fact that because you can't swing a cat in a story about changing the gym hours without a religious reference. The request was made through the Harvard Women's Center. Not the Harvard Islamist Women's Center. Yes, it was made THRU the womens center, at the request of six Muslim women, for religious beliefs. The Women's Center had nothing to do with it until the Muslim women complained. They made the religion issue front and center when they complained due to religious reasons.
  18. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) I also think that nobody, not even Alpha, would have given two s***s about this if the word muslim wasn't in this story. I can say that you are probably correct, unless Muslim was replaced with White, Black, Christian, Jew, Gay, etc. However, it DOES say Muslim, resulting in this thread, and Jenks, Strange and Yas just made some good points.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Except exit polls showed that GOP voters in the Dem Primary broke for Obama 53-47. Then I guess Obamites have no room to b****, eh?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) Karmatic after their was talk of the Dems doing the samething in Michigan, isn't it? I was thinking the same thing.

QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) I just ate my first Fontanos sub and it was amazing. Who knew that a sub sandwich could taste so good. They closed the one right across from my store a few years back. It was a sad day. The Italian beef from there was most excellent.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Well, why don't you read the article again before you spew your fake outrage over this. Again, this is one gym, the least used in the university. That is available to women only for 6 out of 70 hours a week. You don't have to be a muslim woman to work out during those hours. You just have to be a woman. So why would a University spend thousands, if not millions of dollars to build a new gym for women to work out by themselves when they could just change the operating hours for a gym that isn't used very often in their system? So because it is ONLY 6 hours, thats ok? How many hours would it take to not be ok?
  23. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) Can we all just agree that they're both poor analogies? I think I just did.
