  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) internal affairs investigation is not pretty and it is not a procedural form of sweeping it under the carpet. I wouldn't think it was. But what about the stuff that never makes it to IA? Where they 'talk' the person into not pressing the case or something? I am sure there are a lot of incidents that don't get reported. I also know that there are a lot of made up cases of violence against cops, which I am sure makes it difficulty for IA and supervisors. During all that Occupy stuff, there were emails going around telling people that if they were arrested to claim they were beat up and/or otherwise abused, even if they weren't. it happens.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) Getting rid of police unions won't suddenly change police management's mind on excessive force. I never said get rid of them. I believe there should be easier ways for departments to rid themselves of bad cops without the blue wall getting in the way.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) i agree and disagree. i can see the importance of a union, but when a cop is tried or investigated by the internal affairs, that ruling is a lot more severe and harsher penalties comes from that. but its the ones that don't get there, like your case, that just build up tensions but never get addressed. I bet the chief or a supervisor knew about it, or cases before yours. Yes, there has to be a 'want to' from management, but you have to start somewhere.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) lol, yes clearly the problem here is unionization. Clearly it is the retention of bad cops. How do we get rid of bad cops? Suggestions?
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) but people opinions of cops is all wrong, and the bad cops make it worse. we the citizens needs a police force, to protect us. Maybe if the police union wasn't so strong, they could get rid of bad cops...
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) This is a statement by Oriole's COO John Angelos made over the weekend after they had the first issue at the ballpark. What does that have to do with the people not voting for change? That is a screed against the current power structure in the area (which happens to be Democratic). If the people want change, make it change. Elect people that will make the changes. Join the police force and help your community. Stop burning it down.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) The point I'd add is that even though it's not justified...when a community feels wronged by the police over a long time period, that community is primed for an explosion and that's what we keep seeing. The way the police treat these communities on an everyday basis is what sets up these situations. It's not justified, but if all people do is say how unjustified the riot is without dealing with the underlying causes, the end result will be more riots. Hence the gas can analogy i'm using. With voter turnout less than 50% in Baltimore, how do they expect to affect change? They need to do something other than just b**** and riot. The party that supposedly cares for them is in charge, why can't they fix it?
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Samardzija's not your typical Notre Dame douche but a douche he is. Did you ever play? It doesn't seem like. This "shaming" idea and letting cooler heads prevail seems like a societal approach that can't be applied to a bunch of testosterone filled athletes. On the field it's all about respect and having your boys back. Everybody good team has a chip on their shoulder one way or another. I played many sports in high school and college (not baseball however, as I couldn't hit ANYTHING, despite being an OK pitcher). Guys would talk smack all the time. It gets them more mad when you ignore it or laugh at them. And when they finally do something, they get ejected, not you. The other guy is only showing you up if you let him show you up. It would still end a lot of the fights as not as many people will want to charge the mound without teammates to 'hold them back'.
  9. While I am all for teammates sticking up for each other, I have long thought that if the league really wanted to stop fights, automatic suspension, no appeal for ANYONE and EVERYONE that leaves the dugout or bullpen for a fight. if teams have to forfeit games, oh well. Then the batter has to think twice before charging a pitcher. Do I really want to go after this guy when he will have 8 other teammates on the filed to help him? Hmmm. Now you may think this gives the pitcher an advantage, and it sort of does, but the same goes your the other teams pitcher as well. What Eaton should have done when Ventura yelled FU at him is just stopped, pointed at him and laughed. Just mock him for his childish behavior right there, loudly. And then make sure to let everyone know how much of a childish ass he was at every opportunity. Shame is a powerful motivator. And feel free to talk smack to him next game as well, perhaps inquire if he learned any new words since the last meeting or something.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) I'd love to be able to but that information is not public. Perhaps you'd like to support a bill that would require such things to be disclosed? I am all for complete disclosure of all the money. it will bring to light both sides shady donations. I believe both sides would be shocked at what donations their own side gets.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) And what amounts do they give through super-PACs? You're not as stupid guy, look it up. You gave 4 examples and I showed you that 3 of the 4 were profoundly Democrat-leaning. If you are worried that the 4th one spent enough to out do the other 3, you would be mistaken. Why do you have such a hard time believing that reporters are mostly Democrats? Does that simple fact challenge some fairness view you think you have of the media? Would admitting that the 'other side' is correct on anything just eat at your soul so much that you have to find some way to parse it into being false?
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 16, 2015 -> 06:49 AM) For the most part you're getting the opinion of a reporter, who was hired because their opinion aligns closely with the higher ups at those companies. Especially when they say 'Some critics say...'. That is the laziest form of journalism because they don't have to identify any of the so called critics. Usually the critic is the reporter themselves.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) If I am watching the evening news or a 24-7 network...am I getting the opinion of that reporter, or am I getting a story selected for reporting by higher ups who report to Disney, Comcast, Viacom, or Newscorp, or is it a mix of both? Sumner Murray Redstone (born Sumner Murray Rothstein; May 27, 1923) is an American businessman and media magnate. He is the majority owner and Chairman of the Board of the National Amusements theater chain. Through National Amusements, Sumner Redstone and his family are majority owners of CBS Corporation and Viacom (itself the parent company of MTV Networks, BET, and the film studio Paramount Pictures). According to Forbes as of March 2014 he is worth US $6.2 billion......A longtime Democratic supporter, with a history of donating to many Democratic campaigns, including regular donations to the late Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle,[32] Redstone endorsed Republican George W. Bush over Kerry in the 2004 Presidential election, allegedly because he argued that Bush would be better for his company and the economy.[33] Despite this public endorsement, he donated money to Kerry during the primaries Comcast was among the top backers of Barack Obama's presidential runs, with Comcast vice president David Cohen raising over $2.2 million from 2007 to 2012.[44][45] Cohen has been described by many sources as influential in the US government,[46] though he is no longer a registered lobbyist, as the time he spends lobbying falls short of the 20% which requires official registration.[47] Comcast's PAC, the Comcast Corporation and NBCUniversal Political Action Committee, is the among the largest PACs in the US, raising about $3.7 million from 2011-2012 for the campaigns of various candidates for office in the United States Federal Government.[48] Comcast is also a major backer of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association Political Action Committee, which raised $2.6 million from 2011-2012.[49][50] Comcast spent the most money of any organization in support of the Stop Online Piracy and PROTECT IP bills, spending roughly $5 million to lobby for their passage Both those are wikipedia. I'll give you Newscorp, but then again, I didn't say all. As for Disney, handy guide at opensecrets showing they donate waaaay more to D than R. 14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) Because you guys keep saying it and if republicans say it often enough it must be true. Do you dispute that the media in this country is heavily Democrats? I know you can google donation histories.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 02:08 AM) Why is that her fatal flaw? Everything I've heard is the country is in love with the Clintons and Hillary will win by one of the greatest landslides in history. All you have heard is that the media in general is in love with Hillary. Most of them are die hard Democrats anyway, so not such a stretch.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) No more Bushes and Clintons please. Somewhere in that statement is a perverted innuendo. I can agree with you on that one. Although would have sounded a little more perverted the other way, no more Clintons and Bushes...
  17. All is takes is one to derail the death penalty.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) I guess some Republicans do want the challenge of running against Hillary. Good luck to them. She's going to be running on a very general platform, issues that nobody can refute. i.e. Equal pay for women in all jobs. And other women's rights issues. That's what I read today. Brilliant. But what Republican is dumb enough to want to be defeated by Hillary? Why not wait eight years and give it a better shot. Yeah, go ahead and make that front and center. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Hillary-C...2/23/id/626388/ All she is going to run on is 'i am a woman, vote for me' and 'they are saying mean things about me because i am a woman, not because I am totally incompetent at every thing I have ever done and am a truly evil person!'. She can't run on her record because what little there is happens to be pretty bad. Her biggest claim as the S of S is that she is the most traveled secretary ever. Oh boy, vacations on the Federal dime! Woo hoo! She also treats subordinates like crap ie. staff and cops and Secret Service agents assigned to protect her. “Where is the G-damn f**king flag? I want the G-damn f**king flag up every f**king morning at f**king sunrise.” (From the book “Inside The White House” by Ronald Kessler, p. 244 – Hillary to the staff at the Arkansas Governor’s mansion on Labor Day, 1991 “Son of a b*tch!” (From the book “American Evita” by Christopher Anderson, p. 259 – Hillary’s opinion of President George W. Bush when she found out he secretly visited Iraq on Thanksgiving just days before her highly publicized trip.) F**k off! It’s enough that I have to see you s***-kickers every day, I’m not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*damn job and keep your mouth shut.” (From the book “American Evita” by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 – Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with “Good morning.” “You f**king idiot.” (From the book “Crossfire” p. 84 – Hillary to a State Trooper who was driving her to an event.) “If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king ass over here and grab those bags!” (From the book “The First Partner” p. 259 – Hillary to a Secret Service Agent who was reluctant to carry her luggage because he wanted to keep his hands free in case of an incident.) “Get f**ked! Get the f**k out of my way!!! Get out of my face!!!”(From the book “Hillary’s Scheme” p. 89 – Hillary’s various comments to her Secret Service detail agents.) “Stay the f**k back, stay the f**k away from me! Don’t come within ten yards of me, or else! Just f**king do as I s ay, Okay!!!?” (From the book “Unlimited Access”, by Clinton FBI Agent in Charge, Gary Aldrige, p. 139 – Hillary screaming at her Secret Service detail.) “Where’s the miserable c*ck sucker?” (From the book “The Truth About Hillary” by Edward Klein, p. 5 – Hillary shouting at a Secret Service officer) “Put this on the ground! I left my sunglasses in the limo. I need those sunglasses. We need to go back!” (From the book “Dereliction of Duty” p. 71-72 – Hillary to Marine One helicopter pilot to turn back while en route to Air Force One.) “What are you doing inviting these people into my home? These people are our enemies! They are trying to destroy us!” (From the book “The Survivor” by John Harris, p. 99 – Hillary screaming to an aide, when she found out that some Republicans had been invited to the Clinton White House) “Come on Bill, put your dick up! You can’t f**k her here!!” (From the book “Inside The White House” by Ronald Kessler, p. 243 – Hillary to Gov. Clinton when she spots him talking with an attractive female at an Arkansas political rally) “You know, I’m going to start thanking the woman who cleans the restroom in the building I work in. I’m going to start thinking of her as a human being” -Hillary Clinton (From the book “The Case Against Hillary Clinton” by Peggy Noonan, p. 55) “You show people what you’re willing to fight for when you fight your friends.” (From the book “The Agenda” by Bob Woodward, ch. 14) “The only way to make a difference is to acquire power” (From the book “I’ve Always Been A Yankee Fan” by Thomas D. Kuiper, p 68 – Hillary to a friend before starting law school.) “We just can’t trust the American people to make those types of choices…. Government has to make those choices for people” (From the book “I’ve Always Been A Yankee Fan” by Thomas D. Kuiper, p 20 – Hillary to Rep. Dennis Hastert in 1993 discussing her expensive, disastrous taxpayer-funded health care plan) “I am a fan of the social policies that you find in Europe” Hillary in 1996 From the book “I’ve Always Been A Yankee Fan” by Thomas D. Kuiper, p. 76 – Hillary in 1996)
