Is it as windy there as I have heard? And if so, blowing in or out? All I have in the espn gamecast which gives me almost nothing.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) If they sign up to do it for a paycheck that's the whole problem man. The only qualification then for becoming a cop is to give up on your hopes and dreams to take the free ride. That's my point. So therefore they shouldn't act like pricks since they are living on our dime, admitting they don't want to participate in the economy. They should act like butlers instead of pricks. You can't have it both ways. You have obviously never been a boss of anything other than your own ego. There is no free ride. They exchange their services for money. They do the policing that you don't want to do however need someone to do. While I will agree that they shouldn't act like pricks, your fantasy of butler service shows how removed from reality that you are. I bet you just get down on your knees and thank your boss every day for the opportunity to be employed and bring him coffee and rub his feet and god knows what else.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) you my friend are trying to rewrite what i wrote to make some points or to make your statement a valid one. cops were always people who wanted to help or make a point in doing right, that is also most prevalent when lawyers calls cops in and in trial questioning their integrity. now i will not use my own opinion to color all the PO dept's in the country a certain color, or accuse them of abusing their position. 10-15 yrs ago, the cops were using cars that were confiscated for 1 violation or another. they were in turn put thru a complete maintenance overall. so this beater or dilapidated condition, cars, esp for undercover are redone mechanically. come on, pls don't try to assume i am ignorant, i do not know what you are talking about, your point is beyond common sense. and if the cops will spend more time patrolling and doing their jobs instead of 10-15 cops at a time going for lunch or breakfast or mtg in a parking lot to discuss BS. work, to protect the citizens, if you do not want to put your life on the line......... QUIT ... go and become a priest or find a less hazardous job. And then the pay gets even higher with even better benefits because they will HAVE to in order to attract people to do the job. As for the cars, they still do that. And the beater comment was perhaps confused with the jerks guy wanting them to drive crap. And please note I didn't disagree with you entirely. There are many abuses in the system. Vehicle and other confiscation just being one of them. Using swat teams and no-knock raids to deliver non-violent warrants is another. There are many.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) i am divided with this, at what point does it become necessary for them to get new yrly patrol cars and suv's, the police is suppose to be about keeping the street safe, but writing moving violations and letting the drug dealers get away. i know this for a fact, some patrols will avoid the risky area, b/c they claim they don't get paid enuf to risk their lives. but they sure loves driving in the new police vehicles. That's a valid question, when is enough enough. But you don't want them driving beaters that break down when they are on the way to try and stop someone breaking into your house, do you? The over militarization of the police and the blatant abuses that occur with seizures in a lot of cases are very good topics to discuss. But saying that they should just go police because they WANT to? How f***ing absurd is that? As for the writing moving violations and letting the dealers get away, sounds like a conservative argument there, enforce the laws you currently have.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) I have heard that same argument made about teachers before. You heard it coming from teachers, until it comes contract time.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) which part, the poverty of the inner calling. That they should do it because it is a good thing to do, and not a paycheck.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 12:58 AM) Poverty creates the necessity for police, but those that police should do it because of an inner-calling to serve the people. I have no clue who you are, but that is the single most idiotic thing I have ever read on these boards.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Easy boys, we can sign the papers any day we like to head to the academy but we all don't want a free ride. Really? For some cops, yeah. But you think most cops working ANY inner city beat have a 'free ride'? YOU get shot at daily just because you are trying to enforce the laws that others made. A nice car to ride around is isn't enough. The $70k, 80k and pension isn't enough. I'll be one of the first to complain that the police are over militarized, but a free ride? Perhaps you should arrange a ride along some time with an inner city cop.

So...officers should be fired for something they said (texted) in private and what appears to be mostly while not on the job. So should people who tweet/text death threats to pizza owners also be fired from their jobs? If we are policing thought and speech, I would think the death threats are just as bad as racial comments. Or is headhunting only OK for certain groups?

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Oh I know but it's a fairly known Republican concept to let the market sort them out and leave handouts out of it. It's just ironic that in this case they are rallying to save a pizza place that single handedly caused its own destruction. It's actually a Conservative concept, not necessarily a Republican one. Also a Conservative concept is private giving and charity, not force help thru taxation.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) People are really really loose with their money. Wow! I guess these people believe in handouts. I am pretty sure someone else started it for them, not their idea.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Just to make sure I get this straight then: People who send death threats to pizzeria: indictment of everyone who opposes this bill. People who send death threats to Obama: totally not an indictment of you or anyone else who opposes Obama. I agree with the sentiment of this post. Anyone who uses the rantings of some lunatic as a means to smear another side in a political debate has embarrassed him or herself and does not deserve respect. For example, this person: Your hatred seems to make reading comprehension an issue for you. I never said death threats were an indictment of all. I expressly said that. Yet here you claim that is what I just said. Have fun in your closed little world.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) There are many examples of people sending death threats to Barack Obama. Therefore, all christian republicans are black-hating murderers. You make me sick, how dare you threaten to kill the president just because he's black? Well that is certainly what Huffpo and most screaming liberal talking heads kept saying every time one of those popped up. Strangely though whenever someone threatened Bush, it was always some lone crazy person, not representative of the left as a whole at all!

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) He's refusing service to someone based on their uncontrolled attribute that has zero affect on the product/service. It's no different than rejecting black customers, or Christian customers, or Mexican customers. Because this form of discrimination is bad for society, and people shouldn't have to worry about getting service at public accommodations. They wish to not perform in or for a wedding. The store in the link above said they have no problem serving gay people, they will serve anyone, just don;t want to be endorsing something they believe is against their religion. Now if they said 'gays stay out, all of you', that would be closer to your analogy.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) If you're going to play the "any time someone gets death threats it condemns anyone who agrees with you" card, you better be ready to have that turned back against you. Did I say anything about it encompassing all? Just showing an example, of which there are many.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) I feel like this is a riddle. tounge-twister!

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) How exactly is the tolerance crowd supposed to be tolerant of intolerance? If they tolerated intolerance, they wouldn't be the tolerance crowd. How is the baker who doesn't want to bake a cake being intolerant? He is saying that he doesn't want anything to do with your ceremony, but go ahead and get married, or whatever, just don't involve me. The other side is saying 'do as i say or we'll force you to do it thru the use of government power'. It is not a crime to think that gay marriage isn't right or against your religion. (a stance I do not share, btw) SO why try and force someone to do something against their will? An example of real 'tolerance' here. http://hotair.com/archives/2015/04/01/cris...r-gay-weddings/ Death threats. Threats to burn the place down. Yeah, way to win over hearts and minds there with your extreme tolerance.
-
If only the tolerance crowd weren't so damned intolerant of those that disagree with them, some states might not feel compelled to do these things.
