  1. I heard on the radion earlier today that the driver said that he passed out. Supposedly drug tests came back negative, and he has had a clean record.
  2. Even under a flat tax, the more money you make, the more taxes you pay. Why should it be the more money you make, the higher percentage of it you pay?
  3. Ted had better watch out for the black helicopters.
  4. I had to go into work today, and was stuck by that on my way home this afternoon. I was wondering exactally what had happened. However, it LOOKED like the truck was crashed while going thru that truck Ipass lane. Maybe the car tried to go thru that, and stopped? I have seen that happen before. Whatever happened, it looked as bad as it was.
  5. e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-ltzm, -l-) n. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources. So, you CAN be a poor elitist, as long as you think your s*** doesn't stink like everyone elses.
  6. Maybe Juddling was right, and his head DID explode, which is why he keeps spewing this crap of which he knows nothing about.
  7. Broke my left leg in 3rd garde (got ran over by a bike, broke it in 3 places!), broke my nose in a fight in 8th grade, broke left foot playing volleyball in junior year of college, and right foot doing the same thing the next year, had surgery on both knees (also sports related), and have managed to break every finger at least once, 3 of them twice. The fingers were from everything ranging from fights to 16" softball to bowling (let's just say alcohol was also involved in that one).
  8. We have a closer already, don't need Urbina. I had him on my fantasy team this past season, he was a waste there, and I don't see a need for him with the Sox.
  9. If Lee were on another team, we needed a left fielder, and he was available, people would be salivating over the prospect of him playing left field for us. His play in the outfield has been solid, and improving every year. Now his baserunning that's a different story!
  10. I wonder if Michael Moore's cameras caught any of these blatent attempts at voter intimidation. I bet they would have had the intimidated persons been trying to vote for Kerry. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/pal...=sfla-news-palm Early voting brings cries of bullying By Brittany Wallman Staff Writer October 23, 2004 On Election Day, voters will be protected from campaign pressures by a 50-foot cone, an invisible barrier that campaign workers cannot breach. Not so for early voters. While the Voter's Bill of Rights in state law says they have a right to "vote free from coercion or intimidation by elections officers or any other person," a glitch in the newer early voting law does not include the same 50-foot guarantee. As a result, with early voting taking place in busy public places like City Halls and libraries, voters are voicing complaints of being blocked by political mobs, or being singled out for their political views. Others say they have been grabbed, screamed at and cursed by political partisans of all stripes. Republican Rep. Tom Feeney of Oviedo said the antagonizers are "Kerry thugs" out to harass Bush voters. "If you ask me whether I believe there is an organized effort to intimidate Republican voters, the answer is absolutely yes," said Feeney. The Republican Party is calling on the secretary of state's office for help, asking that early voting rules be clarified. The secretary of state's office has not yet responded. "Significant numbers of people have already been deterred from voting," wrote Republican Party Chairwoman Carole Jean Jordan to Secretary of State Glenda Hood, "and this will continue until corrective measures are taken." Democratic Party officials in Tallahassee said they've had some complaints, too. "We have had incidents as well," said Christine Anderson, spokeswoman for the Kerry campaign. "We've had quite a few." She said the party hasn't taken affidavits from voters and found it shocking the Republicans were so focused on the issue rather than working to make sure people can vote. "It's just absurd they would try to accuse us of intimidation efforts," said Anderson. Permits in Palm Beach County show that the SEIU union and other Democratic groups have been holding rallies at early voting locations, where they have a captive audience of voters standing in line. Elections Supervisor Theresa LePore said the lines are long because voters are brought in by the busload. "Special interest groups are trying to whip everybody into a frenzy and get everybody upset," she said. "Campaigns and their observers are confronting the workers and the voters. Things have gotten nasty and ugly." LePore said the county has an ordinance that forbids interference in county business in the building and they are citing that law to the campaigners. Her attorney has told her that an area at each polling place can be set aside for solicitation so she planned to do so. LePore said campaign workers followed voters into polling places and handed out literature next to the voting machines. Other voters standing in line were told the machines don't work and that they should vote absentee. Gisela Salas, deputy elections supervisor in Broward County, said even though early voting "doesn't have that voter solicitation rule, so to speak," her office has posted signs saying "no campaigning beyond this point" and have had cooperation for the most part. Still, there were complaints in Broward. Florida Senate Minority Leader Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, one of the co-sponsors of the early voting law, said it's a shame that everything must be spelled out. "I wish people would use common sense in terms of how they approached these things," said Klein. "It's a new law. Certainly there's a few things we need to go back in the legislation and fix. We are going to have to go back and put more specific rules in about how early voting should work." State Rep. Irv Slosberg, a Democrat from Boca Raton, said he wasn't happy with the early voting, either, because the rules changed daily. "Someone from the elections office has to come out rather than relying on the county library to make these decisions," said Slosberg. "That's what's happening. It's up to the library people. ... Every day's a new game." Republican Party senior adviser Mindy Tucker Fletcher said she had more than a dozen affidavits from voters around the state that would be forwarded to Hood's office. According to the affidavits Fletcher released: One woman who voted early in Boca Raton, at the Southwest County Regional Library, complained that as she stood in line, two men behind her were "trashing our president," Fletcher said, declining to identify the woman. She tried to ignore them. Then the man touched her arm and said, "Who are you voting for?" "I said, `I don't think that's an appropriate question,'" the woman said she responded. "Uh oh! We have a Bush supporter here," screamed the man behind her. For the 2 1/2 hours she had to wait in line, she was heckled by the man. As they neared the voting room, someone in the rear of the line yelled, "I sure hope everyone here is voting for Kerry!" she reported. That's when the man behind her held his hand over her head and screamed, "We have a Republican right here!" There were "boos and jeers" from the crowd. "I felt intimidated, harassed and threatened!" the woman wrote in her complaint to the Republican Party. Elaine Fandino complained to the Republican Party that she took her mother to vote on South Military Trail in Palm Beach County and was confronted by 25 people supporting John Kerry for president. The crowd was "very angry and used foul language," she reported. She said the man next to her said, "Where's my shotgun?" In Broward County, at the regional library in Pembroke Pines, a voter complained that Kerry supporters used abusive language about President Bush and had signs and banners within 50 feet of the entrance. Kerry supporters were "shoving anti-Bush propaganda at us," complained the voter, who said he shouted back "Vote President Bush!" A woman who voted in Plantation at the West Regional Courthouse said she was offended to see five or six people with "huge stick on badges" for Kerry/Edwards, standing near the voting machines. "Never in all the years of voting do we remember being allowed to show a badge or poster or literature while inside the area where the voters are standing ready to cast their vote," she wrote. Juan D'Arce of Miami complained to the Republicans that he tried early voting in downtown Miami. He was wearing a Bush pin, but he couldn't stand the taunting, so he turned away and did not vote. Howard Sherman complained about his voting experience at North Shore Branch Library in Miami-Dade County. He found a crowd of Kerry supporters blocking the door. "They were positioned directly in front of the entrance to the library in such a manner that it would be impossible to avoid them while entering the polling place," he reported. Sherman said he tried to slip through the thinnest part of the crowd, but a woman in a Kerry T-shirt grabbed his arm and asked if he was voting for Kerry. "I seem to recall from civics class that this sort of electioneering is illegal," Sherman complained to the Republicans. Republican Lawrence Gottfried, who became a poll watcher in Delray Beach after what he thought was inappropriate behavior at the polls, said the things he saw upset him. Gottfried said that while working at the Delray poll, actor Danny DeVito and his wife, actress Rhea Perlman, showed up. Gottfried is a fan, but he didn't ask for an autograph. "I said, `Look Mr. DeVito, I'm a big fan of yours and Rhea's, but you are blocking the entrance. You're campaigning, you've got a Kerry-Edwards button on, and it's not appropriate." Gottfried, who used to be a Democrat, said the things he saw were "ridiculous." "There is a time for partisanship and it's OK to have a different point of view, but don't violate the sanctity of the polling area," he said. On an aside, does anyone else think that this new 'early voting' is a joke?
  11. Of course Osama endorsed Kerry. His whole speech practically reads like a Kerry endorsement (which these days is a Bush bash!). Here are a few quotes from his 'speech': http://www.drudgereport.com/flash2.htm "I am so surprised by you. Although we are in the fourth year after the events of sept 11, Bush is still practicing distortion and misleading on you, and obscuring the main reasons and therefore the reasons are still existing to repeat what happened before." This line sounds like it could have come from just about any Democrat around! "...during the visits of Bush to the region while people from our side were impressed by the US and hoped that these visits would influence our countries. Here he is being influenced by these regimes, Royal and military." Gee, I seem to have heard the complaints about Bush being in bed with the Saudis before. "We agreed with Mohamed Atta, god bless him, to execute the whole operation in 20 minutes. Before Bush and his administration would pay attention and we never thought that the high commander of the US armies would leave 50 thousand of his citizens in both towers to face the horrors by themselves when they most needed him because it seemed to distract his attention from listening to the girl telling him about her goat butting was more important than paying attention to airplanes butting the towers which gave us three times the time to execute the operation thank god. " More bulls*** about that damn goat book. Get over it already. What did you want him to do, jump up and run out of the room? Then what? "Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or Al Qaeda. Your security is in your hands. Each state that doenst mess with our security has automatically secured their security" Does anyone really think that if we just 'leave them alone' that they will leave US alone? If you do, I have a bridge to sell you. Man, I can't wait for this election to be over, either way. Just get it over!
  12. http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2651184 What is Fellowship 9/11? A) Michael Moore's searing examination of the Aragorn administration's actions in the wake of the tragic events at Helms Deep. B) A short film already viewed by more than 100,000 people on IFILM.COM. C) Funny. D) A documentary that should be aired by TV stations the night before the election. E) All of the above. Synopsis Michael Moore's searing examination of the Aragorn administration's actions in the wake of the tragic events at Helms Deep. With his characteristic humor and dogged commitment to uncovering - or if necessary fabricating - the facts, Moore considers the reign of the son of Arathorn and where it has led us. He looks at how - and why - Aragorn and his inner circle avoided pursuing the Saruman connection to Helms Deep, despite the fact that 9 out of every 10 Orcs that attacked the castle were actually Uruk-hai who were spawned in and financed by Isengard Pretty funny stuff, although it looks like Moore has lost weight while filming this. Enjoy!
  13. Beck, were you also complaining about the unsealing of Jim Ryan's divorce records? WHat does his divorce records have to do with his ability to be Governor? If you didn't have a problem with that, I don't see why you have a problem with people requesting that Kerry come clean with the rest of his records.
  14. If some of those businesses are running on a tighter budget, that $10,000 could be the difference between being open and being closed. Maybe these owners lifestyles have grown to match their income levl. That happens for MOST people, whether they realize it or not. After I bought my business, my income dropped by about 30%, since I had to take out a HUGE loan to do so. I have adjusted, but get pissed at myself when i realize all the money I could have been saving. Maybe some of these business owners need to adjust their personal lives in order to stay open. but then again, they may decide it is not worth it, and close. You did say ONE thing I agree with earlier, both sides are overplayign their hands. This IS a problem, but probably not as big as some make it out to be.
  15. I can't hire a computer designer part time for $5.25 per hour. As I mentioned earlier, it would take something like $15 per hour to get anyone that knew what they were doing. I could take a chance and hire someone out of school, or with no experience, but then I would be spending just as much time training them and checking thier work. As for doing the work, i will do whatever it takes to keep the bills paid, the lights on and food on my plate. I have done it while 'in-between' designers (one got an offer at a downtown advertising agency), and I will do it again if I have to. I just don't want to have-to.
  16. Most business are ALWAYS trying to increase their sales. My designer is simply the one person who's job I can do if I have to. She is not a luxury. If I were to let her go, it would mean extra hours every day for me, since I still would have to do sales, and all the usual admin stuff. As for the college thing, those numbers may be right! I don't know what various colleges cost these days, but the one I went to now costs $25,000 per year. I think a $10,000 hit in income would seriuosly effect anyone's ability to fund a college education.
  17. bmags, how are they going to pay for those social programs when the businesses in those assf*** towns close, resulting in a loss of TAX REVENUE to PAY for the social programs? Who do you think PAYS the taxes? The small business owner. I pay a HUGE amount of money in taxes as a small business owner. The unemployment people get? I PAY FOR IT. Not the state, they take money from ME, even though I haven't laid anyone off in over 12 years. You think your taxes on your home phone are bad, look at the taxes on a business phone. Almost doubles your bill. Every government body imaginable dips their greedy hands in there. Social security? Sure, some comes from your check, but the same amount is also paid by your employer. Oh, and raising my prices isn't an option, at least not if I want to stay in business. And for most of the jobs I need, I couldn't get someone for $5.25 per hour, more like $15.25 per hour. Tex: To answer your question on a personal level,if my taxes went up $10k per year, my designer would be let go. I keep toying with the idea of hiring another person on part time, but that would just be a dream if taxes on me go up.
  18. Just a thought, but why is it everyone seems to think we would have to give up half our players to get RJ from Arizona? They don't want him, and financially he is an albatros to them, so the buyers should be in the better bargining position, not the desperate seller. Isn't he only signed for 1 more year? All this talk about Lee, Crede, prospects, etc just seems overblown. Lets trade them 2 position players, a relief pitcher and a stud prospect, for 1 pitcher, with a year who makes more money that all of them combined. Yeah, that sounds smart.
  19. First, if Bush was wired, wouldn't you be able to see the earpiece? Even the smallest military pieces would be visible upon closer inspection. But second, and more importantly, why are personal attacks always the first resort of people agains Bush? - " he flashes us a dumb little smile, like a toddler proudly showing off its first bowel movement. Forgive me for employing the language of the playground, but the man's a tool." - "But at least he's not a lying, sn*****ing, drink-driving, selfish, reckless, ignorant, dangerous, backward, drooling, twitching, blinking, mouse-faced little cheat. And besides, in a fight between a tree and a bush, I know who I'd favour" - "The world will endure four more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr - where are you now that we need you?" Now come on, that last one is uncalled for. Can you imagin the world uproar if say the Washington Post were to call Chirac (or however you spell it) any of these things, or wonder casually where certain assissins were when you really needed them? This column crosses a line somewhere. And where does Mr Booker get off presuming that the rest of the world bangs its head against the floorboards screaming "Please God, not Bush!"? My god, these people are just gonna have a stroke or something if GWB wins again.
  20. For a more comprehensive look at how full of crap Moore is, try this place: http://moorewatch.com
  21. He's not actually from Flint, I believe it is one of the better-off neighboring suburbs, Davidson. He just uses FLint because it fits the 'regular guy' image he tries to create for himself.
  22. Winodj, quit trying to change the topic. Temporary help is one thing. Lifetime support is another. How many times do you give money to all the homeless people you may pass? Even if you give to them alot, I bet there are some times you don't give. Does that make you a bad person? You drew a line somewhere as to when to give and when not to give. My line is for people who screwed themselves up and want everyone else to take care of them. I don't care if he dies. That is his problem, NOT mine. As for unemployment, I have been unemployed once in my life for longer than a month. I did take unemployment, and was on it for 6 months. When it ran out, I somehow survived for the additional 3 months it took me to get another job, I didn't go crying that I needed more help. A safety net is just that, something to help you get back on your feet. A TEMPORARY thing, not a lifetime thing.
  23. Multiply the 'pittance' he gets by the large amount of people similar to him, getting money from SS, and you have that much more money to pay to the seniors depending on it now or in the near future. The system misspent a billion dollars. Who knows what the amount is that is paid to people who 'can't work', for whatever reason. The government can't take care of everybody. You are only guaranteed life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness. Not $1100 per month in SSI payments because you turned your brains into scrambled eggs when you were 17.
  24. Propose an alternative that is not dripping in sarcasm, and I will give it a civil reply. I gave one, for him to have to rely on family and friends. Maybe church. Anyone instead of the taxpayers. Your reply? "Oh, I know, let's ask him to give the money back, and live in a box! Yeah, that is a workable solution!" Get down off your high horse. I don't want a pat on the back, just expressing MY opinion.
