  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 16, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/04/16...act-obamacare/# Just want to give some expert insight on this. The claims that the changes are political are pure BS. The Census Bureau has thousands of employees and exactly one employee is a political appointment. The rest are career statisticians that have served through multiple administrations. The changes to the survey are purely for statistical reasons, and were in the works well before Obamacare was passed. There is a very extensive testing and review process before even one question can have its wording slightly changed. It's the same as the BS about how the Census Bureau is fudging unemployment numbers. Never happened, never will. All it takes is one.
  2. I have to share this since I don't win things often. One of my vendors was hosting a NCAA tourney pool. They are nation wide and have thousands of customers. Free to enter with tons of sports prizes offered from a memorabilia shop. I won. By 1 point. Woo Hoo! What I won was was a Magic Johnson autographed Michigan State jersey with case. I don't have many non-Sox things in my sports room, but I can find room for this.
  3. Damn, i forgot about this! Let's go with Abru for my first choice. big stretch, I know
  4. Just secured a 2-3 night stay (depending on the location) at any Hilton Grand Vacation Club Orlando area location that goes with the airline/Disney/SeaWorld pacjage to make it that much better.
  5. Not sure how much of a draw this would be, but was told that we have a Branson vacation package to add as well. Hotel, food and shows included, but travel on your own. Interesting place to see.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Sounds like a great cause! It is, as most of them are. And should be a fun time. And whoever wins those Sox tickets will be my new best friend...even if it is Balta.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) What's the alternative? Bare earth or concrete? No thanks. I wouldn't mind decking over about half my back yard. My WALLET would, but I wouldn't.
  8. OK, I have a brother in law that uses a battery mover for the last few years and i recalled that he had nothing but positive things to say. So I emailed him and here is what he said: I have a Black & Decker CM1936. It runs off a battery that has to be charged. It takes about 12 hours for a full charge and lasts about 1 hour in normal grass. If the grass is higher or wet it might only go about 45 minutes. I never had a problem finishing my lawn on a single charge. That is my front, side, and all around the back. I’m very happy with how it works and you don’t have to worry about gas or oil. The battery is about the size and weight of a car battery. In 3 years I’ve had no problems and the battery holds its charge.
  9. Hello everyone! As some of you may know from the charity thread, I volunteer for a pet rescue called Help Save Pets. Short answer is we are a no kill animal rescue located in Plainfield, Channahon, oswego and Hinsdale. last year we helped over 1000 pets find new homes. Now, as one of the many fundraisers that organizations like ours does, we are hosting a comedy show in Aurora on May 9th. Real comedians, not me trying to tell lame jokes. I would break out into a pool of sweat standing in front of that many people. The flyer is attached with the specifics. Ticket price includes pre show appetizers and cupcakes. Cash bar. There will be at least 25 different prize 'baskets' of things being raffled off ranging from a bunch of booze to sports items (we got 2 8x10 canvas portraits with laser autos of Forte and Briggs from the Bears, Wolves tickets, an Autographed Dunn baseball and MAYBE a autographed Magic Johnson Mich State Jersey, not sure n that one yet), to pet items and gift cards. Those will be done with the usual 6 tickets for $5 thing, you drop in the one you are interested in, they pull winners. There will also be a separate $10 raffle for 2 round trip SW Airlines tickets, Disney Tickets and Sea World Tickets. Still working on getting a hotel stay thrown in, hard to get done for now. NOW, there will also be a door prize. You buy a ticket, you get entered. Only 220 tickets will be sold. The door prize is 4 tickets to the Home Run Club at The Cell. You know, the seats behind home plate with the buffet and OPEN BAR included. $1000 value thanks to our friends at the White Sox and specifically a high school friend of ours that works there Tom Sheridan. So, what I am looking for is anyone who wants to help save pets, watch some comedy, enjoy a night out and hopefully win a prize or three. Contact info for tickets is on the flyer, or just message me. We are selling 220 tickets max, have about 65 sold right now.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) I don't see how they could possibly enforce that without some sort of collusion with the NBA, which I have to imagine the NBAPA would fight. You enforce it like a regular contract. You agree to play for 4 years and in return you get scholarship, room, board, and exposure to the NBA. Not a thing the NBA could do about it.
  11. In 10 years some rich guy is going to fund a developmental league for basketball. make maybe 10 teams and just sign people right out of high school to 2 or 3 year deals. Give them $40k and some insurance, play your games and make it part of the contract that the league also becomes their agent. Then the league recoups its costs with agent fees. you can get all the guys who can't even spell their name to join so they can skip the pretense of being a 'student athlete', you have them sign contracts ( with an X if need be!) so they can't leave after a year. At first the games would have to be played among the 10 teams you have, but after a while you will get the best players anyway, so the players coming out of your league will be the best prepared when they can enter the pros. You rep them to the pros after the contract is done, either by draft entry of as free agents. College basketball will go bye bye.
  12. I don't really have a problem with inter-league play but I really hate the pitchers batting. They have a specialized skill in throwing the ball at high speeds with precision. I don't need them to tear up hamstrings running to first, crashing into an infielder and ruining shoulders (Mark pryor anyone?) or any other opportunities to destroy that multi-million dollar arm. With few exceptions it is a more automatic out than Adam Dunn, not very exciting.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) First poll out since Illinois gov. primary. Rauner with a 14 point lead. He should be able to expand on that. If the GOP can't beat Quinn they are totally hopeless. Wonder if Rauner has any court sealed documents that the Dems can 'arrange' to have unsealed. Or is that just reserved for Senatorial races...
  14. Oh yeah. 'Undocumented', or whatever other bulls*** words they want to use to try and make themselves feel better.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) You know what this bullpen needs?? More cowbell!
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) There is already a national ID system--it's called the FBI (and likely the NSA) having access to all 51 state/district ID systems. And Social Security numbers. Try and get a loan or apply anywhere without it. Unless you are an illegal...
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) What do you think? Good or bad? I am not entirely sure what to think of it. If money is 'speech' then the correct decision was made and you can't limit it with the rules. But like speech, it sure can be regulated to a point. If we are going to have unlimited donations, make them have to report every penny. Not reporting has to have serious consequences. And make sure it is very clear who donates what. You all seem to know what Sheldon donated and can trace the dots backwards, we should know what everyone is donating. Ideally it would be nice if you didn't need a billion bucks to run, but not sure there is a way around that (that would work and/or get passed).
  18. So the people that shelled out $32,500 to be at a fundraiser for Obama tonight, that is a bad thing? Or the $10,000 each 55 people paid to meet with him at a wealthy donor's house afterwards? just want to make sure.
  19. http://philberger.com/news/entry/tillis-be...error-and-fraud Initial findings from the Board presented to the Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee today show: 765 voters with an exact match of first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in N.C. and the other state in the 2012 general election. 35,750 voters with the same first and last name and DOB were registered in N.C. and another state and voted in both states in the 2012 general election. 155,692 voters with the same first and last name, DOB and last four digits of SSN were registered in N.C. and another state – and the latest date of registration or voter activity did not take place within N.C. Nothing to see here. This isn't the vote fraud you were looking for, move along...
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) If they are reclassified as employees, and that those scholarships and actually employee compensation, wouldn't that change the tax status? According to the IRS regulations education benefits over $5,250 per employee are taxable. I guess what complicates it is the employee is working for the educational institution. But if, for example, AAA Corp pays for an employee to attend Northwestern and the expenses exceed that threshold, the employee is taxed on the balance. Why should it be different if Northwestern is paying for an employee to attend college? A private corporation can't call it a scholarship and magically make it tax free. And this happens whether they unionize or not. The classification has already happened, it isn't based on unionization or not. So all the future NW scholarship guys can now thank the guy for their huge tax bill about to come.
