  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) You are kidding, right? Or is there someone other than Edwards? Tex, you can't be that deaf and blind. The media were in the bag for Edwards for the longest time until they couldn't ignore it anymore. by that time, it didn't matter anymore in regards to politics. They sat on the story, you know it. They had names, dates, details and they sat on it. All the have (for the moment) are unsourced accusations against Cain and they are going full tilt. Of course his lame attempts at handling it didn't help any. Just as an aside, I hope this does come out so we can define what is considered inappropriate contact or conversation. Just wondering if Cain's misdeeds rise to the level of cock-tweeting.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) at least with Newt Gingrich all the scandals have probably already been revealed. And there are stories out now where the daughter says that the oft repeated story of him visiting wife in the hospital to ask for a divorce are untrue. According to her, the wife asked for the divorce, and it started before she got sick and went to the hospital. I recall Newt saying something to that effect before as well and nobody believing him.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) Goldline has been charged with Fraud in California. Wow, they didn't waste any time getting 'Glenn Beck' and 'conservatives' into that story, did they?
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Which if it is a team philosophy can be useful. If you have one or two guys working the count and the remainder of the lineup swinging at the first close pitch they see, the walk is not effective. Boston and New York are successful because they can tax a good starter and get them out with the philosophy of fighting off good pitches and taking a ton of pitches. If Adam Dunn looks at a strike down the middle on 2-0 and gets a walk to get to the OPS terrible Alex Rios, this idea has failed. You have to have a team of OPS focused players not just a couple sprinkled in here and there. When Frank Thomas and Ray Durham were in sync it worked to perfection when Julio Franco was there to protect them. When Dan Pasqua was there to protect them, it did not work that well. NY and Boston don't have as big a drop off in production from 1 thru 9 as most other teams do.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) Politico is generally going to get a little more traction than the friggin National Enquirer, and so it should. Either way, it happened and was all over the press in both cases. Hell, if you will recall, I hated Edwards all along, so I am the last guy who would defend him. But his story ran a LOT in the national press, after a few days went buy and the Enquirer's story could be backed up by some believable evidence. When it was all too late to really matter. And I am not defending Newt in any way. Good politician, slimy guy. Seems to almost be the norm, for both sides.
  6. I don't seem to recall the press being this interested in a sex scandal when you had a Presidential contender screwing around on his sick wife. There were even details in that one, and no confidentiality agreements to get in the way.
  7. I seem to recall most people wanting Teahan gone whatever the cost, and not many liking Jackson either, so the fact we got anything for them should be a plus.
  8. Both sides can win in a trade. if what you get helps you more that what you gave away would, you win. Of course, sometimes hard to tell. Player A might never have actually hit while on your team, but a change of scenery somehow helps them to actually put bat on ball.
  9. Once again, my quest for the first 600 series of the year was thwarted by a 10-pin. 192, 207, 194 for a 593 series.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 06:57 AM) I did none of the above. The only thing I did was buy a house about 9 seconds before the market blew up in my face. And I believe you also said you were not in danger of foreclosing. I am in your boat, sort of. Bought in 2005, put a nice chunk down from the sale of our old house, and as of about a year ago, my house is worth about 35% less than what I paid for it. I am not underwater, but all the downpayment and equity so far are gone.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Kapkomet, what would you suggest they do? That, for the "greater good," over the long-term, it would be best if every single American behind on their payments was foreclosed upon more quickly, further adding to the 2.5-3.0 million inventory of unoccupied homes already without a market of buyers? Don't you accept the fact that 80% of the damage was caused by companies like Countrywide and by reckless oversight from Alan Greenspan? Or you prefer to blame it all on Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and Bill Clinton/Richard Rubin? The program in question is for people that are current, and not in danger of foreclosure, but instead owe $150k on a house that is now only worth $100k. As or who to blame, it is always a mix. Government pushing home ownership as the be-all end-all to people who had no business owning a home, banks lending to people who couldn't afford it because sugardaddy government said they would cover it as well as the idiots buying $400k homes when they knew they should have bought less or who took out home equity loans to cover vacations and cars.
  12. Damn racist Teabaggers OWS people are also violent! http://www.registerguard.com/web/newslocal...played.html.csp Down twinkles for this Occupy group.
  13. My first thought after reading this part of the story was "Hey pot, meet kettle!". Some people are just so clueless. http://bostonherald.com/news/regional/view...ticleid=1374637 Welcome to reality, dumba$$.
  14. Damn, 2 weeks ago, had a 185 bowler on the other team bowl a 700 series against us. We lost every game by his pins over average. Last week had the other team have a 250+ game from a different bowler in each game, us losing each game by about 25 pins or so. Then this week, a 170 bowler bowled a 250, 279 and 199 against us. Somehow we managed to win the last game. I guess we bring out the best in our opponents.
  15. I'll play tourneys in vegas (anywhere from $40 to $100). I money in at least one every time out there, probably play 6 or 7 different times. Best haul was a $1000 win there. I took out an Elvis impersonator to make it to the money table! Also had a freshman congressman from one of the NW states playing in my game. He didn't play very well. Will hit the charity games that pop up here in Joliet every month or so, will money in a sit-n-go a few times out, so far never finished higher than 25th in the 200 seat early bird game. Those get tiring as you have a mix of wannabes and the people there just for the charity that really don't know what they are doing. Now just do home games about every 6 weeks, $20 a head, 2 games a night. All the players are friends, so friendly banter all around, but we still fight it out on the table.
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) It's cheap entertainment, the sex that is. Kids are not cheap. You would think that even the dumbest excuse of a human would learn that after the first one or three.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) However, they do involve "Biology". I'm sure when we realize that we've made people even more unprepared to make decisions based on anatomy and about reproduction, and they wind up surprised that diseases they have carry down or they start asking the government to make more decisions about exactly which treatments they should undergo, you'll have no issues with them stepping in to fill the role, right? Don't they learn all about the babies stuff when they are trying to teach them sex-ed in grade school? Or do they just concentrate on how to put a condom on cucumbers?
  18. My quest for the first 600 series of the year falls short. 173, 202, 223. I chopped the 6-10 in the 8th frame that killed me, struck out in 9th and 10th to make it close. Liking the new ball. Global 900 LongShot.
  19. I guess his Nobel Peace Prize was getting bored and needed to be involved in yet another war. Do you think Code Pink will protest THIS one? They still stuck on Bush and Cheney, but wont say a peep about der komander getting us involved in even more conflicts.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) If "Taking out a mortgage" is the "Extreme example" in terms of the requirements of financial literacy, then we're truly screwed. Part of being financially literate is knowing when a situation may be beyond your knowledge base and consulting a professional. Know your limits, seek help when in doubt.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) It doesn't shock me at all. Have you actually tried to read an understand the fine print on a finance contract? I filled out a couple hundred when I was in sales and I couldn't figure out at least 1/3 of the material in it. I read thru the leasing contracts every time I upgraded my copiers. they always try to slip something in there, which CAN be negotiated out. The big one is they keep trying to put in there that if you choose to not renew the lease, that you have to ship the copier to their headquarters in NY, at your cost, using only approved carriers. That ends up costing you over $1k in freight to get it there, even when it came to ME from the warehouse in Schaumburg. I always get that stricken before I sign. but you are correct, they are tough to follow. Damn lawyers and their legalese!
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) I was going to post the same thing. You have every right and freedom to go after the major you want to (well, as long as you qualify), but don't go complaining if you chose an obscure major that doesn't have much in job perspectives. The school should have resources available to tell students what to expect, but ultimately it's up to the students to actually take this info into account. Just like it was up to home owners to realize that maybe it was a bad idea to take out that $400,000 interest only loan so we can live in a house 3x larger than we need AND take that trip to Bermuda? Seems that when you replace schools with banks, it is suddenly predatory lending. I think the schools didn't to anything to persuade students that just maybe they might want to reconsider that double degree in Art History and Latin. With the government backing student loans and making them easier to get, the schools just kept jacking up the tuition and lowering the bar to get in, chasing the all mighty dollar. And FYI, I agree with you that people SHOULD take job prospects into account when trying to choose a major. But after all the years of the liberal education establishment telling them they are special, to do what they LIKE and making it so there are no 'winners' and 'losers' with 'participation' trophies and such, can you blame them for thinking it is all someone else's fault?
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Yea I gotta agree here, you are free to go after any major you want to (or can go for) but don't go complaining if your degree doesn't intrigue recruiters. And that second one, your paying $1000 in rent!? For a place over 30 miles each way from your place!? I just think that a lot of these people should be pissed at their colleges for selling them useless degrees at ball-breaking prices instead of banks actually expecting them to get paid back on money they lent out.
  24. http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/post/1...-with-a-useless Um, Classical Studies? Just what the *ck DID you think you would get a job doing? http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/post/11300019170 Ok, you are complaining that you pay too much in taxes, and want (tax) money help rom the government, who has to tax people (you and others, the rich alone wont cover it) to spend ANYTHING. So, should they raise your taxes? And, you are 26 and already making $52k a year, STFU already! There are others, TONS with misspelled words that can't be attributed to fat fingers typing like me, and so on.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Links to pictures of the differences in signatures are included at the story's link. http://articles.southbendtribune.com/2011-...-primary-ballot But, but, but, vote fraud just doesn't happen!
