Home Opener Game Thread! White Sox vs Tigers
TheBlackSox8 replied to TheTruth05's topic in 2018 Season in Review
QUOTE (Richie @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 09:00 PM) This seems like a strange reply. #1 - I am not telling you that "Yoan will be fine"... That would imply that there is a problem with Yoan. Which there most certainly is not. If you expect every highly touted prospect coming up from the minors to perform like Rhys Hoskins - you will be supremely disappointed. Most do exactly what Yoan is doing. Flashes of brilliance - but mostly inconsistency. Moncada is slashing .227/.331/.400 (with a .730 OPS) up in the Major Leagues. Through 275 Plate Appearances. Some here are in panic mode over this. While they simultaneously rejoice over the emergence of Yolmer Sanchez. Yolmer is slashing .243/.289/.369 (with a .658 OPS) up in the Major Leagues. Through 1240 Plate Appearances Hmm... There's no way this could be a knee-jerk reaction to one week of baseball. Could it? #2 - You listed off a number of White Sox players who didn't pan out to support a claim that we should be worried about Yoan. If I listed off a number of White Sox players that DID pan out - would you be satisfied that Yoan is going to be as good as those players? No, you wouldn't be. Nor should you be. Therefore, the logic just doesn't hold up. I remember Hawk pretty clearly saying those same things about the likes of Konerko when he went through funks in the early 00's. How about this? Some players pan out - some don't. What the likes of Hawk Harrelson or random Sox fans re-iterate to you is irrelevant. Just try and remember how silly this is going to look the first time Yoan has a good week offensively this year. Anyone here would have just as much of a right to crown him the next White Sox legend. In reality - I don't know many of you guys yet. However, I think some of you all pretty clearly had messiah like expectations for Yoan from the get-go. That's not fair to him. Let him have his struggles. Let him have his flashes of brilliance. Keep an even keel through it all - and let's evaluate after a proper sample size. There's no denying his ability - or that he's only had roughly a half-season's worth of PA's under his belt. The kid could go on a tear next week, for all we know. Onto the next one. Eventful first thread to be introduced to the forum with. lol. Cheers. haven't posted here much over the last few years, but let me say that you're a welcome sight on this site. I've enjoyed level headed replies. I'm totally on board with what you and others have iterated. Let all the players figure it out on their own and workout their struggles, how else are they going to be able to do it in the future??? Everything is a necessary experience for Moncada and Davidson and Delmonico, all the ups and all the downs. Let them have that. Then evaluate when it's over...except the bullpen. That s*** needs to be blown up. -
Home Opener Game Thread! White Sox vs Tigers
TheBlackSox8 replied to TheTruth05's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Sanchez is quickly becoming my favorite. Caught a couple of his off season workout videos, and I could tell he was focused and committed on having a great year. Shows right so far this season... -

Not sure if Omar has always had that gear...but I'm a fan of the all white/grey catchers gear he has. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 07:21 PM) If it makes anyone feel better none of the pitchers allowing these runs will be on the team next year. Hell, some might not be here by August. Shields might last til the end, but more games from Miguel like tonight, he won't last until August. The bullpen will look completely different by July probably...hopefully

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:02 AM) I don't think there's a team out there that would give him a big payday right now, even if he comes back and shows #1 ability for the final 4 months. I'd offer him a team friendly extension and see if he bites on some financial security in exchange for some free agency years given what he's gone through in the last year plus. After the winter Boras had with some of his clients, I bet he's willing to listen to a team friendly extension, especially with the injuries Rodon has had.

Any interest in Y.Tomas after he clears waivers?
TheBlackSox8 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox were without a piece they currently have I could see going after him...but I think it's better to let Delmonico and Davidson play without having to throw someone else into their starts. You wouldn't be able to play Tomas as much as you would like to, to get his stock up for trade bait. -
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 08:53 PM) I really don't want to move Avi. Dude is 26 and is legitimately one of the best hitters in professional baseball. You don't want EVERY player to be rookies...having a leader like Avi when that window really opens will be worth more than some prospects. You figure the Sox will be LEGIT in 2 years, Avi is 28, in the prime of his career. Unless someone gives us a ridiculous overpay he should stay in Chicago and we build around HIM and the kids. Gotta have that veteran leadership, Abreu and Avi fit that. Hell, Konerko was 29 when we won it all, Dye was 31. Abreu would be 33, and Avi 28. Unless we get a crazy deal on either of them, I'm fine with keeping them...Their production works for the team.

O's and Sox "getaway day" game thread
TheBlackSox8 replied to Ducksnort's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) He was good last year though. Just big time regression this season that we've seen far too often from WSox hitters in their sophomore season Rollins had a similar regression his second "full" year. I'm willing to give Tim Anderson the whole year until I judge him. He'll likely get another season to prove himself though. -
John Wick: Chapter 2 was ridiculous fun. Love this action franchise.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Safe to say any of us would trade Robertson for Robles in less than a heartbeat straight up I'd probably do Jones and DROB for Robles...

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 6, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) I'm for the rebuild but if the Sox want to compete then they need to do whatever it takes to sign him if they want to compete with this roster but they'd need to make more additions. Jerry won't shell out the money nor do I believe Cespedes would come to the south side, so it's likely a moot point. But let's just think about a Cespedes addition for the sake of argument for competing. Cespedes addition along with other additions: Eaton-RF Cabrera-DH Abreu-1B Cespedes-LF Frazier-3B Anderson-SS Lawrie-2B Catcher: Free agent catcher Wieters or Lucroy? I know Hahn liked Castro in the past but I don't think he's much of an upgrade CF:Tilson or bring back Jackson? Rotation Sale Quintana Shields (needing a bounce back season from him is big but I don't see it) Rodon Fulmer (is he ready?) Bullpen Free agent or trade addition Petricka Putnam Burdi LHP free agent or trade Jones Robertson That's a lot of money Jerry would need to spend to make this team a legit playoff contender. I don't see it along with guys bouncing back. I just did this on a whim so flame away. Miguel Gonzalez is in the rotation no?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Band of Brothers (does it count)? If so, it is easily Band of Brothers, followed by Game of Thrones, followed by Entourage. Just saw the thread, without seeing any options, that was my pic...and it's not even close if we're counting it. Otherwise I'd go GoT then Deadwood, then Sopranos then The wire... But those four are neck and neck, band of brothers is way ahead though.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) Nonsense. I'll believe Reddick is not a sox target when he retires. Even then KW might still want him...
-
My poor, poor, poor F5 button...
-
Eaton and Quintana haven't over-performed. No on Rich Hill, especially if it's for Rodon. I'd give them Avi for free though. I like getting Lucroy somehow, but realistically i dont think the sox can get a top of the line starter. I'm in the selling boat not the buying boat.

Miguel Gonzalez getting called up, Danks skipped
TheBlackSox8 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) I don't think he had any more velocity than Danks from what I saw. But, his changeup was pretty good. I am not sold on the guy as there wasn't any real improvement then what we saw with Danks. Comments about Danks being lucky his last time out when he gave up only two runs because his defense turned three DP's is really kind of strange statement. The defense did what it was supposed to do. If it hadn't would we say Danks was unlucky that the DP's weren't turned? I am not sure where luck comes into this equation. I guess Miguel should get another start, but I think Danks will keep his spot, but maybe one of the two ends up going to long relief? I was a bit surprised that Johnson wasn't kept and given the start. Maybe cause he hadn't pitched at all since he was recalled? He had velocity...he was gone for Baltimore throwing mid to upper 80s. He was in the low 90s last night. -
Miguel Gonzalez getting called up, Danks skipped
TheBlackSox8 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wanna see 1 more. The guy had velocity and good movement. Give him some time with Coop and another opportunity to see what he can do. Guy got called to pitch against Toronto on 2 day notice? I've seen great pitchers get rocked just as hard as Miguel has. s*** happens to the best of them. I give him 1 more, then reevaluate Danks, Turner, EJ. -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:01 PM) So did I hear right that Albers set the club record for consecutive scoreless appearances at 30? Matt "the Cat" Albers

[Websites removed] Google prosports installed on [removed] I use it for my phone. If you don't know how to install or anything, just Google it all and there's step by step YouTube videos. I use it for TV shows and movies also. I have mlb.TV so don't really use [removed] for sox games...just everything else.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 11:12 PM) The LHH is nice but his splits are just awful. Atleast Braun his both righties and lefties well. eh...I wouldn't call them awful. With the exception of last year, he's been serviceable against lefties, while crushing righties. I'm ok with his career splits. He's a really good defender as well, with a decent arm.

Hoping Colorado becomes terrible. Cargo is my preferable OF

Love seeing Rodon continue 'sale'ing through his last 10 or so starts. Hoping Fulmer can come up and provide an exact replica of the success.

Single issue voters have to be the ones supporting the GOP. I can't for the life of me think how any level headed person can support some of these ideals they dole out. Cut taxes, cut programs, but invest more in the military complex? Give more breaks to the wealthy?
