  1. Agree with Jim about a SP. Jason Schmidt would top my list there. Could use another LHRP too. Mike Gonzalez and Scott Eyre would be nice. I think San Fran is a team we should be talking to. Besides the aforementioned Schmidt and Eyre, we've already beaten the Feliz horse to death.
  2. I'm more concerned with Frank continuing to be selective at the plate. The power threat is a huge addition to the lineup though.
  3. I will be at the game Friday with a sizable contingent, good to see Buerhle is pitching. I should have a nice quick game to watch.
  4. Sean Burroughs cannot hold Crediocre's jock. The guy has 0 power, and the only reason we'd be looking at a 3Bman would be to upgrade the offensive output we're getting from that position. I would puke if we traded for Burroughs.
  5. Yep. Trade scenario between the two would be hard to pull off. That said, if Theo was convinced we could improve his pitching staff in the bargain I have no doubts he'd make a deal. I just don't see where we could do that without weakening our staff. I'd much rather add more pitching, maybe in a larger deal. San Francisco has 3 guys that interest me: Jason Schmidt, Pedro Feliz, and Scott Eyre. Schmidt would be hard to fit into our rotation, given how well our pitching has performed, but the other 2 would have no problem finding roles on this club.
  6. I don't like the idea of losing Politte either. Quite frankly, I think we should be adding another LHRP, not trading RPs. I was merely pointing out that Epstein is not going to trade a starter of the caliber of Mueller in the heat of a pennant race for AAAA fodder like Luisa. Theo will be expecting someone of value who he can expect to perform now.
  7. I don't think he has any problem with discussing possibilities, as long as that is what they are advertised as. If you start a thread titled Bill Mueller to be traded to the White Sox, I know I'm going to be pissed off if I start reading and find out its just another strat-o-matic scenario. I don't disagree with your premise that it is possible and a legitimately interesting trade scenario. I think the problem is how the thread was advertised.
  8. I would love to add Bill Mueller to this team. But I find it hard to believe Epstein would trade him to us without getting immediate help in return. Since Epstein is a moneyball man he will be looking at performance. In other words, Luisa is not going to look like an enticing proposition. Marte is hurt. We would likely have to give up Politte. In other news, the St. Paul Pioneer Press expects us to sign Jim Brower in the next couple days. Which, if we're giving up a bullpen pitcher, makes sense.
  9. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) I think we have pretty much ran this topic into the ground. There are NO untouchables on the team or in the system IF Kenny thinks it will improve the team. He isn't going to trade B Mac or Anderson for Randa, but he might for someone else. And no, I'm not going to speculate on who that is. Hah! You obviously don't understand the rules Dybber. If you think somebody could be traded, you must know to whom, for what, and have evidence to prove there is interest. You are not allowed to just post thoughts on possible trade candidates.
  10. I don't remember anybody doubting Carl, I certainly have thought he would have a productive year since I saw him at SoxFest. But as KW said, if there's a deal that can help the club, or if he doesn't feel comfortable playing in a platoon role, he'll trade him. He certainly won't be going anywhere today, tomorrow, or next week. But as we get toward the deadline, if Frank is healthy, the ABs just aren't going to be there for him unless someone else goes down.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) You were throwing out trade ideas like Everett for this, and for that, and you couldnt say anything specifically that made sense and I called you out on it, dont get all crabby about it. Oh no. Trade ideas. And I don't have any GMs telling me they are or aren't interested. Horrors.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) Ok, so you think that Cincy would be interested in an aging DH, especially when they play in the national league and already have too many OF'ers?? You still havent given the teams that would trade what for what, trade Everett for a reliable RP, who? Why would we need another OF when we already have too many? Maybe claiming a player off waivers is a good idea, but then who would we send down to make room for him? Take a deep breath. Cincy has all but given up on Kearns. He is their Joe Borchard. Griffey is an injury waiting to happen. Dunn and Pena are their other 2 OFs, and there has been talk they would trade Dunn if they could get quality arms in return. Everett can play corner OF. He is not just a DH. I don't know who the other teams are that would be interested, nor do I much care. I owe you nothing. Who are the teams that aren't interested, andyou must prove it. Who have you talked to? What GM has told you they aren't interested in Everett? Silly to ask such things, isn't it? You don't think he'll be traded. Fine. In less than 2 months we'll know who was right.
  13. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) The articles I read were only speculation. Has KW actually made statements to this effect? Ozzie said there aren't any trades in the works. KW isn't about to call a press conference and announce who he's talking to and for what. We won't know until it actually happens. As for Ozzie, I HIGHLY doubt that he is privy to everything KW does. The thing I find most funny is that I say it will be "likely" and that "if we trade Everett". But I'm making claims. Meanwhile, RR shouts to the world that Everett WILL NOT be traded and anyone who disagrees is stupid. Yeah, that makes sense
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Who are these phantom trading partners that value an aging DH that are willing to part with a starter or a quality back-up?? And it definatley does not make sense for us to trade for prospects in the middle of a title chase. Defend your claim of Carl is likely to be traded and please mention something of value that we can get in exchange for him, because your claims are unfounded. My claims are unfounded? They aren't claims jackass, it's an opinion, same as yours. Unless you'd like to take this moment to claim you and KW are drinking buddies and he tells youeverything he is planning?
  15. "try interjecting trading someone for that same reason on for size, and you will find that an even worse idea." If you bothered to read, I am not advocating trading Everett for a backup 1B. My very first post alluded to the point I'd like to either claim Phelps off waivers outright or trade some B level prospect to Tampa for him. If we trade Everett, it will be for 1. A replacement starter such as Randa 2. A reliable RP and possibly a prospect 3. A 4th OF and a prospect. I don't buy the Ozzie/Timo bulls***. I don't expect we'll ever see Timo at 1B again.
  16. QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) I'm not calling for a trade, but many people seem to be. I'm saying for the few games a year PK needs off, why can't Crede move over? There's a recipe for success: Have Crede suck ass at multiple positions.
  17. If Crede keeps struggling, I don't think a trade with Cincy is out of the question. The salaries match up well for Randa. Everett will likely be traded. Whether its for a current starter's replacement, or a backup piece that fits better/prospects remains to be seen.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) How do you claim that Everett is likely to be traded??? And why trade a good bat for a prospect when you are in a pennant race?? Gload wasnt up on the roster anyway, plus there are other players on the 40 man that can play 1B. How do you explain that trading someone just for a backup when we have backups in our system is a good idea? Maybe because several sources have already indicated Kenny has started working on a deal? I like Carl, but he will not be happy as a platoon player spot-resting Dye, Podsednik, and Frank. There are other men on the 40 that can play 1b? Really? Then Timo was put there why? Kenny is not going to take at-bats from Rogo to bring him up just to back up Kong.
  19. Cotts has found some command, which is good to see. I'm certainly not ready to anoint him proven.
  20. Once Frank is healthy it's hard to believe he'll be out of the lineup often. Everett is likely to be traded for prospects or possibly a prospect along with either a 4th OF or a RP. Thomas will not be playing the field this year, and with Gload injured we need a backup for Kong not named Timo. Personally, I'm interested in seeing what happens with Josh Phelps. Tampa designated him for assignment, if he has to clear waivers I would claim him. I don't think it would take anything of value to pick him up, and he could back up Kong at 1B and Frank at DH.
  21. I'll take Rowand in the 3 spot. He struggled a bit early in the year, but he's quickly heading back to .320.
  22. We should not be adding crappy vet RPs until we know what we have in Baj.
  23. Dmitri Young is getting the shaft at DH, and Manny should not be in the OF. Otherwise, hard to argue with those selections.
  24. I think it's dumb to tell someone the thread they started is dumb. It's an opinion forum. If someone has something to share, they should be encouraged to do so as long as it is in good taste and in keeping with forum policies concerning language and content. I wonder how many people just look and don't participate because they're afraid some jagoof is going to tell them their ideas are dumb.
  25. Willie has done a nice job off the bench this year, and it's certainly nice to have him for depth. But I have no problem with him being sent to AAA for Gload. As for Timo, his days are numbered anyway. He may last the year with the Sox, but Brian Anderson will be here sooner rather than later. I expect Jermaine Dye to be our DH/4th OF next year.
