He doesn't need to match Vlad's production, you don't get that from a SS unless he's named Alex Rodriguez or Miguel Tejada. Uribe batted .280 with 25 HRs last year. He'll probably bat around .265-.270 with 25 HRs this year. Not a guy you pinch hit for, especially when he's on one of his hot streaks. I can't believe Uribe is even being discussed here. What Uribe did or did not do in the 9th is not why we lost.
-
Nobody complains about Vladimir Guerrero's free swinging. Uribe is not to blame. Uribe shouldn't be PH for there. We shouldn't be batting there. The game should be over. Our offense put up 7 runs. When your offense puts up 7 runs, it's on your pitching to execute. Meet last night's goats; Jose Conteras, Kevin Walker, and the King of Bullpen Mismanagement, Ozzie Guillen.
-
On the bad side, Luisa is still on the roster. We really need to demote his sorry carcass.
-
On the bright side, Kevin Walker will not be available anytime soon.
-
I didn't vote for Frank, because I feel best of all-time should include defensive career as well as offensive. IMO, that came down to Shoeless or Nellie. I went with Nellie.

Mondesi is a cancer, and an unproductive one at that. We have nowhere to play him, and I'd be more inclined to call up Anderson for any opening in the OF than bring someone of Mondesi's mediocrity in.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) That's all good and all, but it has gone on in other threads. The same crap is being recycled everyday about 10 times a day. Again, Aboz, I suggest stickying a "I want to b**** about the White Sox thread". Anyone who doesn't b**** in there and takes it elsewhere gets a temporary ban. Hell yes! Damn freedom of speech or expression. You will be all fuzzy and cuddly or you will leave!
-
C'mon aboz, this one has Chicago White Sox written all over it. We really should have a forum pool. $1 for each date you think Walker will be made the sacrificial lamb for Joe Crede, Jermaine Dye and Carl Everett all being in the same lineup.
-
Ahhh....the traditional White Sox scapegoating method; fire the hitting coach. The memories.....Ron Jackson....Von Joshua....Walt Hriniak.... Don't worry, Walker's time will come. It is his destiny....

I'd take Chavez over Sweeney, and I want neither. Too much money tied up in one player for our budget. Mackowiak, Polanco, Randa. Those 3 look good. Huff and Ensberg would be interesting to look at. I don't know who would top my list. Haven't looked at who might be available outside the obvious sellers.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) Uribe is best suited for 2B is what I was trying to imply. PK was a catcher, should the Sox consider trading AJ and putting PK at catcher? Didn't think so. Uribe is best suited at the 2B position. If you can't see that, then I suggest you get your eyes check. Ozuna is more of a SS because he has the agility and quickness. Uribe doesn't have that agility of a SS, hence the Sox wanting to leave Uribe at 2B for the most part. Sorry if the trade doesn't note that. I guess Frank Thomas still plays 1B and Scott Hatteberg is still a catcher. And Jose is still a SS. Uribe was brought here for the sole purpose of being our SS of the future. We had a 2B prospect in Miles that we traded for him. The belief at that time was that Willie would be manning 2B. Not sure where the quickness/agility argument comes in, I'll take Uribe over Jose in any agility/quickness contest you'd like to hold.

3B is a difficult position to play defensively. To his credit, Crede plays it very well. Our improved defense is no small part of our pitching staff's success. If we trade for someone who is going to supplant Crede as the starter at 3B, it had well be someone who is comparable defensively.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) get used to it, the next 0-4 game that anyone has will bring about more trade threads than you could possibly imagine. I, for one, am trying to stay positive through everything, and as much as yesterday pissed me off, I saw lots of good things. Best things I saw: 1. Timo earning his 1 mil. 2. Buerhle being the ace 3. Rowand heating up
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) Uribe is more of a second baseman, I can't begin to express how much I disagree with this. Uribe has been a Godsend to a position that was mucked up consistently by Jose E-6 Valentin.
-
Related argument, someone just deleted a trade topic regarding Houston. I don't see anything wrong with that topic, Houston may well be a seller. Ensberg would be an intriguing guy, although a downgrade defensively.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Well if you can hold your breath until at least the end of June please be my guest. Big difference between Crede and the others you mentioned (Harris Rowand) in terms of experience at the time. Neither Harris or Rowand had proved anything at the ML level. Crede at least has shown he's good defensively for a whole season and can drive in some runs. Anything else on this? Again I reiterate ... Sox will not be trading Crede straight up for Randa, nor will they trade for Randa and have Crede sit on the bench. It will not happen. As to why, revisit all the comments from Guillen and KW about showing faith in players and sticking with the decisions they made before the season started, at least for a while. Oh, and the team is in 1st place which somewhat negates a panic trade. I can't see us trading Crede for Randa. I assumed it would be for prospects, most likely pitching. Somebody suggested Crede for Randa? Wow. As for having Crede sit on the bench, I disagree. We're a 1/3 of the way through the season. Crede had a nice stretch at the end of April, he needs to have another one. I'm sure the org wants to give Crede every opportunity, they've invested alot of time in him, but KW's job is to fill holes before the trade deadline. If Crede hasn't picked it up before July, I have no doubt his starting role will be in jeopardy.

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?
ISF replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Had to be one of the bottom 2. Buerhle was only at 93 pitches, he certainly wasn't being overextended. McPherson was overmatched against Marte. He was lucky to get the bat on the ball. I about had a conniption when Hermanson wasn't brought in after Iguchi's error however. And then I needed a paper bag and some aspirin when he ph Everett for Iguchi. Ozzie had better have bought Timo dinner last night. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Everyone on here needs to take a xanax, drink an Old style and breathe. I wouldn't wish Old Style on my worst enemy. That's harsh.
-
Too much money tied up in Chavez. Randa would be a good fit for our budget and has been a consistent producer. I also think Polanco could be plugged in at 3rd, even though his best position is 2B.
-
In case there was any wondering what group I belong to, I enjoy having my whipping boy. It allows me to vent, and venting is healthy. Good for the ticker. Now, about WTF Ozzie was thinking....
-
At the risk of being called a negative nabob, there is some validity to that argument, IMO. There seems to be two groups here, one that is quick to jump on situations as negative and one that seems determined to obliterate any negative analysis from the forum. Dropping the F bomb was probably over the top. However, I think the point is that someone shouldn't be dumped on for having negative comments any more than someone should be dumped on for being a kool-aid drinker.
-
Actually I was yelling that at my TV about Ozzie in the 9th yesterday.
-
I don't think any positive topics should be allowed until we get an answer to the WTF was Ozzie thinking? topic question...

QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) Foulke has a 7.29 ERA. Would you pass on him too? Why yes, I would. Foulke is toast. He looks as good as Luisa this year. Why go after Graves? He always puts runners on. The only difference now is that he's getting lit up like a xmas tree after putting guys on. Bring up Baj. Give him a shot before we go looking outside the org. If he can't cut it, there are plenty of available arms, and my search would start with Danys Baez in Tampa.
-
Timo will be joining the Ben Davis millionaire's club at AAA when Thomas is called up. Viz should be sent down for Baj. We should do our minor tinkering now while we have some cushion in our division lead. Find out now if we need to deal for a bullpen arm or if we have it in the organization already.
