  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) let's stop pretending that we need to even entertain the idea of widespread open, armed insurrection in this country as a legitimate thing You never know. I doubt we'd see anything like this in our lifetime, and perhaps even the next...but that's a quite shallow view of time. Someday, there will be another revolution in this country, that's not a guess, it's an inevitability. So while it's not a legitimate thing NOW, it will be someday.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawberry Wiki seems to indicate it's a fruit, it's just a different type of fruit It's an accessory fruit, but it doesn't fit the technical term of fruit, it's a pseudocarp.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 02:51 AM) "Oh, deed-a-lee-doo, just gonna go rebel against the country today. I have an assault rife, I'm ready." Army: "Air strike ready? Oh, it's done? K, let's go get lunch." Ok, since this seems to have become the defacto argument people like to use when it comes to this, let me be the first to shoot it down. It's an argument people make without actually giving it any thought...and, well, it's a bad argument. First and foremost, the "army" you speak of is made up of civilians, most of which will NOT fire upon the citizens of their own country (aka their own friends and families) even when commanded to do so. MOST of these men and women will turn these "air strikes" you speak of back on the very people who ordered them. Yes, some of them WILL remain loyal to the government that commands them to turn arms on their own people, some of them are brainwashed enough by their corrupt leaders to do this...and those are the ones that this armed militia will kill off, with the help of the many others that do NOT follow orders to kill their own.
  4. QUOTE (vandy125 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) I would still think that they would try to get their money by something like the number of devices connected to that DVR and not necessarily base it on whether you are using the Genie Mini Client as one of those or not. But, who knows? You can bet they'll find a way to nickle and dime it to death.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) What Motorola phones are you talking about? There were very few 4.5 inch Motorola phones. The only one that comes off the top of my head is the Atrix HD and that wasn't a big phone. Whatever sizes they were, they were bulky and heavy. Ok, maybe they weren't 4.5 but 4.6, maybe 4.3, or 4.2, who f***ing cares down to the exact micrometer. They were huge, ugly pieces of s***. That's the point I'm trying to make...they're not ugly, fat or heavy anymore just because they have larger screens. Nor do they feel as cheap as they used too.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) That's an exaggeration. http://versusio.com/en/samsung-galaxy-s2-l...g-galaxy-note-2 It is but you also cherry picked one example of many. The S2 wasn't nearly as ugly big as early Motorola's, nor was I strictly talking size but thickness.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) So basically a panel that was partially composed of labor representatives issued a report based on BLS data. Not counting benefits, they'd make less...counting benefits, they make more. Pure and simple. And taking out the top 1% of earners from both categories will completely skew it in favor of the public sector making more. Most people in the private sector aren't paid what CEO's are paid, so stop pretending they should be included in this just so your point holds up, that's absurd. And finally, don't just take salary as compensation, you have take the entire package, including benefits. Benefits are where the public sector tends to make up anything they're not getting in up front salary.
  8. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) You think Y2HH will ever tell me he was wrong? What are the chances? Wrong about what? I never said phones weren't trending bigger, that much is obvious, I simply said they will still make sub 5" sizes, which they will. There is a huge audience that want's a larger screen, but doesn't want a "phablet" screen. For every sasquach like BigSqwert, there is a munchkin from the lollipop guild like myself. We can't has no 5"+ screens in our hands. My opinions of screen size have changed over time...but more so because they're making the screens bigger without making the entire device too much bigger...those sort of advancements come with the technological changes/time...and I have no problem adapting my opinions when it happens. The large models that bothered me were the early models, think Pre Samsung S3 here...they had 4.5" screens, but they were nearly the size of modern Note 2's.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I know there's a strong chance I'll be blown away by something at Mobile World Conference but in case I'm not, this will be my next phone when my contract is up in June. What a gorgeous phone and the specs are killer. Disclaimer: I have huge hands. Large phones don't scare me. It's gotten to the point that these larger phones (5" or less) aren't as large as they once were, because the screen's are practically edge to edge, without much wasted bezel space...and they're orders thinner than they used to be. I'm holding out to see the next Nexus phone from Google/Moto they've been working on before I'll make a choice...that Sony phone looks great...but...it's Sony...I'm not sure I can get over my distrust of them at this point.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) the government, like i said, is retarded. tomatoes are fruits. The fruit/vegetable thing is quite confusing, and a lot of things people consider fruits aren't and visa versa. For example, a Strawberry is neither a fruit nor a vegetable...but most people call it fruit...to which, who really cares.
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) this is true, i should use raw honey. now THAT is $$$$. The most important thing to look for in regards to Honey is that it's made in the USA, different countries have different rules as to what constitutes "honey", the US's is the most restrictive, not to mention the safest. Raw honey shouldn't be much more expensive than any other honey, the problem is going to a place that doesn't purposefully overprice it. There are a lot of local honey producers, so you can find it.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) The government standards says normal is 150-175 for a 6 foot male. 175-220ish is "overweight" and anything about that is obese (based on a BMI scale). If I was anything under about 205 i'd look sickly on my wide frame. What Reddy said. That BMI scale is bad. It doesn't take into account muscle vs fat ratio. I'm 5'7" and weigh 165...I'm sure that according to the government scale I'm "obese" or near it...because it's wrong. I have a very muscular frame, which isn't taken into account with their height/weight scale.
  13. I love steel cut oats, but they take too long to make, but IMO they do taste the best. That said, they have the same nutritional content as any other oatmeal...so the regular 5 minute oats work fine for me. I prefer the texture of steel cut > regular 5 minute > instant...but I'll also eat whatever is available. Also, Reddy, dump the brown sugar and use honey.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) haha right? i really do love when people say that home workouts are bulls***. I had my brother (who was talking s***) try Core Synergistics from P90X and he died halfway through. Would love to see him attempt Insanity. lol Your brother "died" and you think its funny?
  15. This is more of the same thing we've already been talking about it... It's about personal choice and having some self control. I LOVE me a fountain Coke once in a while -- no, not that fake ass diet s***, either -- but a REAL Coke, out of a fountain...not sure why, but I love it out of the fountain. That said...it doesn't mean I have to drink 5 of them a day...or a week...or even in a month. Have some f***ing willpower. Just because some fat retards have none, doesn't mean I should lose the choice of a Coke, or a Big Mac, or whatever the f*** else for that matter. I'm sick of brain dead, no willpower having asshats ruining s*** for everyone else. Stop blaming Coke for making you fat, and stop f***ing drinking it.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) And here I always thought you were a guy. Congrats on being pregnant!
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) I redid all of my indoor bulbs a few years back. Getting a new HD-TV a few years back made a big difference too. I just discovered this year that they actually made CFL flood bulbs for overhead lighting...so I was happy to find those...they also last around 7-9 years as compared to the 1-2 years my old bulbs lasted...not to mention 11 watts vs 50. They were also only like 4.50 cents each. The only thing is they need about 30 seconds to 'warm up' to get to full lighting strength, but for how much electricity they save...I don't mind the wait.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) They take your yearly average and divide it by 12 so you don't have huge seasonal fluctuation in what you pay. We keep the heat at 71 when people are home, 70 at bed time, and 68 during the day when no one is home. We do keep it much higher in the summer, usually 78 or 79. We also unplugged a lot of things, and turned off powerstrips that don't get used very often. Ah ok...well, that is my prices WITHOUT being on a budget plan. So expect your bill to really go down quite a bit. During the spring/fall, my gas bill is usually around ~55$ a month, during the summer, it's as low as 40$. Right now, at it's peak, it hits around 140 at the most... I had a lot of overhead flood lighting in my house, which were burning at 50W each, so we're talking ~400-500 watts upstairs at any given time, and another 400+ downstairs. I replaced all of those 50W floods with 11 watt CFL's...so what was taking up 400 watts will now only burn like 88.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) We are on the budget plan for $118 a month now. I already got our bill down from 186 after we bought the place. Without changing anything else, ours dropped almost in half. We keep the house between 69-72 ALL day/night. I'm sure I could cut my bill down even further...but I like it warm. Your bill will probably go down ~40%. ...and what's a budget plan?
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) btw posts like reddy's are why I refuse to self-identify as an atheist. I agree with this...I once started identifying myself as such, but I noticed an overwhelming hijacking of what atheism has come to represent...and what that is, is pure, unadulterated intolerance. And I want nothing to do with that.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) We did windows and a bit nut into the Christmas club account last year. The roof is on the list for after the furnace/AC units. We have an 80% efficiency that was in the house when we bought it, so I can't wait to see what it saves us. I can tell you that now... I had an 80%, replaced it with a 96%...my monthly heating bill went from ~240 to ~120-140.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) Overpay by $4k or so. Its our interest free savings program that will turn into our new furnace/AC. Hahah, I did that last time. 2 years ago I replaced my furnace with a 96% efficiency Rheem, yes, I also have a Nest Thermostat. Last year I replaced my old A/C which was a now no longer legal 9 SEER rating to a newer/bigger model thats 14.5 SEER. All done with tax return money. This year...it's getting the roof re-shingled.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Not sure what Ill get back, I usually purposefully overpay so its always been over $1k. Same. I know this is a bad practice, too...but I'd rather be over than under and owe...the goal is to not be TOO far over, though.
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) well... that's still being debated. GMOs, chemicals, preservatives, etc... i'm not willing to rule out that they can cause ill effects over time. we just don't know yet. Will take 40+ years for any kind of conclusive evidence of this...it's even possible that those preservatives are preserving our bodies, causing us to live long enough to die of things like cancer, where in the past we just didn't live long enough. I don't really think GMO's are all that bad for us, if they are at all...I think a lot of this is hype and misinformation. I think lack of exercise is more the cause of these issues than GMO's...people are lazy...so let's make s*** up to justify that.
