  1. So, SS's and BS's arguments have dwindled down to constant sarcastic calls for "more guns". We get it guys. We got last week. We got it the week before that. We got the month before that. We got the year before that. Just like you're both getting this, right now.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) So how close to forcing a default on the debt (or requiring some extraordinary actions) do you think we'll get? The same as usual, and then they'll raise the meaningless number to avert the "crisis" they created.

    Resolution Time!

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) Gain weight, start smoking, and call my mom less. Maybe do some recreational drugs (in a state where it is legal). Spend more time online and less with people I can actually see.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Since she sued and wanted her job back, suing for harassment would be nearly impossible. Based on her comments about the doctor, harassment would be very hard to prove at this point. As you said, a person suffering from harassment usually wouldn't want their job back in the first place. She's probably going to have to suck it up and walk away, go find another job.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) The problem with the Republicans claiming compromise is that they can't deliver their sides votes in the house. They couldn't even pass a ridiculous bill aimed to pass among only republicans in the house. With that in mind, they are going to need heavy democratic support, so the idea that the democrats need to give 90 and them only 10 is delusional. The Republicans don't seem to realize it yet, but as it stands, their party is dead man walking. They need to step back, reevaluate what "center-right" actually means, start communicating this to the party and to the people...but changes need to be made internally. The Democrats have their own problems, but as it stands, IMO, they're the more sane of the two parties at the moment...and this is coming from me.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) In discussing compromise, remember: Republicans lost the election snippet: Look at the ignorant, uninformed and just flat out stupid comments in response to that article from both sides. Those comments highlight why it's impossible to have any sort of meaningful political discussion these days. A thousand people in the street, Singing songs and carrying signs, Mostly saying, "Hooray for our side." The more that things change...the more they stay the same.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) This is crap, frankly. Both sides cry foul when they lose a case, and for both it's because of activist judges. Scalia, Alito and Thomas are just hard line conservatives that hate gays, women and freedom in every decision they make. And liberals whine incessantly about Fox News and how awful and biased they are. b****ing is part of the American way and everyone does it. I despise the fact that people think that's one sided. It's the most hilarious part of the argument...because you can tell when a person has gone too far into one side or the other, because they believe exactly this.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) I use this for common cold, but I had bronchitis quite often and am good at getting ahead of the symptoms. Sometimes, not so good. They can prescribe the medicine for that, too.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Now if the power grid goes down like in Revolution... So long as everyone has perfectly cut and styled hair, as everyone in Revolution does -- somehow, without electricity -- all is fine. Apparently, losing electricity culls about 99.9% of the ugly people in the world. Sadly, that means most of you people are dead.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Hmmm Hey, if anything I've actually calmed down over the years...but I'm still an over the top version of myself online. At least, I like to think that.
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) I'm trying to expand my mind on that actually. Me too...it's just easier said than done. Though, admittedly, my online persona is like a completely 'roided up version of my actual self. I'm a bit more likable in RL.

    Charities

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 07:52 AM) I was doing some early tax work. This year I cut back on the number of charities I contribute to. This year I gave to Boy Scouts of America Rio Grande Council (BSA) Troop 41 (BSA) Surfriders Barak Obama Rick Perry United Way American Cancer Society AARP Catholic Democrats Not charities, FYI. You've been robbed. For me: Salvation Army & Amvets (not sure if either are actually charities since the term has been thoroughly bastardized these days), I donate all of my kids older toys and cloths (and my own cloths) to them. I even donated a few official White Sox jerseys to them I had for years that I never wore (a Jose Valentine one and a Keith Foulke one), prior to last year it was older blanks I had laying around, but I'm sure someone stole them instead of giving them to someone that actually needed cloths (I know, it's bad of me to think this way, but I do). That's the problem with charities these days...can you even trust them to give away the stuff you donate, or are they sorting through it before hand and taking the good stuff for themselves?
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Which is? Don't you know me at all yet, Reddy? I'm always right, and you should do as I say, not as I do (unless I say you should do as I do, then do that). You know, almost exactly how you feel about most things.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) You do realize that almost every post you make in this forum is condescending right? I had to double-check that you're in fact the guy on here who talks down to everyone about everything. Don't know why I'm even wasting my time arguing with you. The mighty Y2HH already has all the answers! Yes, I do realize that. They're designed that way for a reason.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) You've done a great job proving this yourself with your last few posts. Well done! ...and you fail again. Maybe if you learned to be open an honest, all your problems would be solved!
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Your point is that the word "extremist" is exclusive to terrorists? Then you're just plain wrong and are apparently arguing for the sake of it. No, that wasn't my point.
  17. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 04:50 AM) Christmas Eve - preparations all done. Meeting my Da for lunch in town, then back out to the local for pints, and home for more grub and gargle. Up early tomorrow for the full day of festivities. I love it. Best wishes to you all on Soxtalk. It's been a pleasure to be on the board since the summer and I look forward to 2013 and sharing the fortunes of the Sox on here. Be safe and be merry Same to you and the rest of you readers here...
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) I don't think you should be upgrading the processor on a laptop yourself unless you are really good at working in small, fragile places (no sex jokes please) and have the ability to solder. It's also worth mentioning that it's very hard to obtain a mobile version of a CPU. So no, you should not bother upgrading your laptop CPU unless you mean upgrading to a new laptop. Pretty much this. Laptops have custom designed motherboards/chips that you cannot buy in non-OEM formats, making them harder to fix and/or upgrade.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) I actually don't understand your post. Yes I called him an extremist, I didn't know its use was limited was limited to terrorism. Here's the definition of the word: Where does it say "terrorist" in there? Duke takes an extreme view on gun control, which makes him an extremist on the issue. I'd call someone saying to ban guns altogether an extremist as well. You're arguing semantics right now and missing the point entirely. Actually, that WAS the point...so it's you that missed it...laughably.
  20. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) Ugh I hate when you paint yourself as the angelic middle man who is holier than everyone else on the board. I am.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) I love this, because it's not even close to cherry picking. Nuke has called Chicago a "war zone" multiple times and said you'd "have to be an idiot to not own a gun" or something to that manner and I've already called him out on this before. I'm sorry, but Nuke lives in Lincoln Park. It's not a war zone over there, I know because I live 5 minutes away. Unfortunately, it is a war zone is some areas of this city and it's a god damn serious issue. It's offensive to the innocement victims of gang violence when Nuke acts like it's a city-wide problem and then uses it for his political agenda. This is an absolutely LOL worthy reply, which I expected. Yes, it was cherry picking, for the exact example I posted. If it's ok for you to take something he said and compare it to others in an extreme situation, then it's equally ok for me to cherry pick you calling him an extremist and compare it to ACTUAL extremists. By the way, a lot of people have called Chicago, as a whole, a war zone. Of course, he lives in Lincoln Park, which I wouldn't dub a war zone...but it's not all that far from one.
  22. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) i don't even want him to agree with me, i just wish that his opinions were well thought out and rational and that he could argue them without jumping the shark in every post. You do this often, by the way.
  23. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) you don't think that an opinion backed by rational thought and consideration is worth somewhat more than an opinion based in ignorance? so if I have an opinion because I've looked at the data, done the research, and thus I've decided to believe A, that it's worth EXACTLY the same as someone who says "screw all that, I believe B because that's what my daddy told me to believe." or "that's what this 2000 year old book tells me to believe" or "that's what Glenn Beck tells me to believe"? because the problem with this is that ignorance is EASIER, so more people are going to be ignorant than not. giving them equal voices is probably what's led us to dive headfirst into the crapper like this the last 15 years, because major corporations, news media and pundits are choosing to FEED the ignorance and misinformation to create support for certain parties and platforms. the fact that we have instantaneous access to information would - theoretically - help people become MORE informed, but unfortunately it's done just the opposite, and strengthened and increased the amount of ignorance in this country... and it's really a shame. Of course I think that opinion backed by rational thought and consideration is worth somewhat more than an opinion based on ignorance. However, you being the person that gets to decide what's rational is a different story altogether. Ignorance IS easier...and it's ignorance that leads people to believe their way is the only way. In some cases they may even be right...but the second they start thinking that, it takes on a life of it's own.
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) i don't even want him to agree with me, i just wish that his opinions were well thought out and rational and that he could argue them without jumping the shark in every post. And because YOU see them as rational doesn't mean they are. That's the part you and the other guy are conveniently forgetting.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 10:26 AM) http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/i...ksEnabled=false Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/i...8#ixzz2FtPPN5bS Employers in most states can already fire employees for any reason whatsoever, but I do understand the differences here. I think she'd have more of a case if this was a publicly traded company or even a company with more than a handful of employees. I can somewhat understand the predicament as this is a small privately owned family practice, which creates a different set of situational rules...at least, I think it does.
