QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) Why would that be illegal? People are using instagrams service, if a condition of use is that you give up all your rights to anything on instagram, dont use instagram. For example...what if I'm Tom Cruise...and you took a picture of me browsing at the local mall and post it on Instagram. Does that give Instagram the rights to use your photo, of Tom Cruise in their advertising as they're trying to say it does? For that matter, what if you take a picture of my daughter at a kids toy store because you thought it was a cute picture to share, and Mattell thinks it's a great picture...how does that give instagram the right to sell the likeness of my daughter to Mattell...again, like they're claiming it does. Just because YOU took a photo of something, doesn't mean YOU own the rights to it...and it sure as hell doesn't mean THEY own the rights too it. I can go on an on about the implications of this...it should be illegal...and I hope they get sued into the dirt.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) The "how much protein" question is probably the most debated in fitness. There are two things to consider: 1. There is an amount of protein that optimizes muscle growth. 2. There is also an extent to which eating protein instead of other macronutrients can result in a more favorable body composition. Depending on your natural propensity to gain fat, this may be very noticeable or not at all. When I'm going at it hard, I try to eat a gram of protein for every pound of weight. A better guideline is likely one gram for every pound lean bodyweight. The real optimal amount for muscle growth could be lower than that, but there really is no such thing as too much. It is also likely that getting to the optimal amount of point 1 is likely still below the optimal amount of point 2. There is such as thing as too much...you can damage your kidneys with routine protein overdosing.
-
Also, keep in mind these general suggestions hardly apply to anyone at all. Depending on your body style, weight, metabolism, current muscular status, etc...your needs will change over time. For example, I re-started working out again a few months ago, I take NO protein supplements and my bicep went from 15.5" to 17.5". Just because *I* don't need to supplement protein, however, doesn't mean you don't. So try to keep that in mind when you read any sort of general guidelines.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) for whom is this NOT the case? out of curiosity For skinny people that have a very hard time packing on muscle or weight of any kind.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) I work out in the AM - I need protein in the AM because of this. The process of rebuilding muscle takes place over 24+ hours...you need protein, but you don't need a megaton of it all at once. A steady supply will work just as well over a few hours time. You do need some, carbs, fat and protein directly after a workout, but you don't need to overload...the process of rebuilding will continue throughout the day and into the night.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) I'm 34. I'd say I have an athletic build (broad shoulders, thin waist (32), longish torso) However, my body stores fat easier than it builds muscle. I've usually stuck to a low fat/high carb diet in the past. It's hard for me to cut carbs and not feel wasted half way through my day on the bike. I've read that about protein intake before (30 g at a time). So, would I be better off doing a 1 scoop protein shake (30ish g) and replacing the Cliff bar with a bar higher in protein a few hours later? It would be better to lower the amount you take and just take it a few times a day, instead of packing that much all at once. Also, for your body type/style, you need to use a carb /\ protein ramp. Morning = High Carb, Low Protein Afternoon = Mid Card, Mid Protein Evening = Low Carb, High Protein The evening one is going to be hard for you...especially if you like beer. But, with your body style...that's the reality of it. Low fat won't do much if for you if you're eating a ton of carbohydrates, unless you're running 10 miles a day, that is. And don't worry so much about protein shakes, your body style can probably get away with minimal supplementation if you eat properly. Items such as lean meat and eggs pack so much protein you don't need to supplement much if you eat them a few time a day.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) Apparently Instagram's new TOS allows them to sell any of your photos. Wired recommends downloading your photos and deleting your account. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/12/how...l-your-account/ Thankfully a service I never used. But this sort of policy change sounds borderline illegal, and if it isn't, it needs to be. This is one of the drawbacks to these free service offerings and why I tend to avoid them when possible.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Yea I know those two are the bad ones, I tried reducing it and adding more brown sugar, but they still complained. I also ran into a problem with portioning the spices, i usually make a large batch of ribs at one time(at least 4-6 racks), so I ended up looking like the swedish chef dumping spices in a bucket Well, the one I posted is usually good for 2 slabs...if you make 4, double it. Just make sure you use 2x the amount of brown sugar than you use of any other spice.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) Im looking for some ideas, I am planning on making some next week between Christmas and New Years. I usually use Bobby Flays Rib Rub recipe, but I typically end up eating most of the ribs by myself because it is a little too spicy for my wife and kids. I like heat, but looking for a little bit of a milder recipe. Any and all ideas will be considered. I am a big fan of doing an overnight rub so the it really gets absorbed into the meat. I have pre boiled the ribs before as well, but you really lose a lot of the pork flavor when you do that. What say you? I make my own rub, but it's pretty simple. 2 Tbsp dark drown sugar 1 Tbsp salt 1 Tbsp black pepper 1 Tbsp paprika 1 Tsp white pepper 1 Tsp garlic powder 1-2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper if you want them spicy/extra spicy, or in your case NONE at all. Your Flay recipe, the chili powder and the cayenne are what's making it so hot. Just use less of those or none at all. Keep in mind, that you can always use a special rub on a section of them for yourself and simply mark it...and let your family have the rest.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 03:13 AM) To the nonbelievers out there, what do you think of Obama being our "pastor in chief" the other night? Not trying to rub it in, just wondered if you were outraged or think his words quoting scripture and mentioning heaven, etc., were offensive to you. http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/12/17/m...hief/?hpt=hp_t2 Raised Catholic, but not much of a believer in a man made God. I believe that the primer mover represents what people believe is God. If the big bang was that prime mover...than to me, the big bang represents God. I have no problems with people believing in God, being spiritual, or whatever it takes to make them peaceful people. I don't even care if they use it in speeches, or for a way to speak about mourning, etc...so long as you don't use it as an opportunity to recruit or allow it to sway objectivity when science says otherwise. For an example of this, see Carl Everett claiming dinosaurs never existed. If you allow your religious beliefs to blind you to that extent, then I do have a problem with you. I have no problems with Obama's comments. None at all. I find it hilarious that people make fun of Scientology for their "insane beliefs" of an alien race, call it a man made religion, etc...yet most of these same people believe in a ghost floating in the sky from a different man made religion. Let me ask what's more likely, a God like extraterrestrial race, or an invisible benevolent guy floating in the sky, watching on as things this mass shooting took place? Case rested.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) I'm 6'1/185 lbs. My goal is to be lean and muscular. Brad Pitt from Fight Club. I'm a bike messenger. I average about 50 miles a day of varying efforts. I'd guess about 15 of those miles are a hard effort (20-22 MPH) and the rest are modest effort (14-16) MPH. As I've aged, I've gotten soft on top while my legs are really muscular. I'm like the opposite of your typical dude that works out. I've always eaten generally well, but I've recently started to work out too. I started doing the standard P90X routine, but the cardio days were wearing me out. Now, I don't do plyometrics and Ken Po. They just kill my effort on the bike. I've been doing the Chest/Shoulders/Tri work out on Monday and Friday, the Back/Biceps on Wednesday, Stretch X on Tuesday and Thursday (flexibility to improve cycling is one of my goals) and Yoga on Saturday. Every other week, I do the Back/Bicep twice and the Chest/Shoulder/Tri once. I was eating low fat, high carbs and moderate protein. I didn't think I was gaining enough muscle, so recently I've switched to something like this: On the days I "weight train," (M,W,F) my diet is typically: 60G whey protein shake after morning workout (8AM), Cliff bar (11AM), modest portioned lunch of left overs from the night before. I usually try to do 40/40/20 protein, carb, fat (2PM), Cliff bar (5PM), Dinner (8PM) is usually whole wheat pasta, chicken breast, veggies, or chicken tacos, corn tortillas, rice, guac, black beans with another 60G protein shake. On the days I only stretch, I stick to a similar diet, except the protein shakes are much smaller (20G). On Sundays, I rest and eat what I want, but I eat fairly well. I don't count my calories. I know I need to, but it's hard to tell how many I need due to the biking. My cycling fitness level is high, so I burn fewer calories, I think. Is my diet ideal for what I'm trying to achieve? Too much protein? Any suggestions? I know it's tough to judge without knowing the calories or my metabolism. If it helps, I've always been the type of guy that will get fat if I don't exercise or eat fairly well. It's hard to say...I'd need to know more about you, your body style, metabolism, etc... I don't have to take any kind of protein supplements and I can add muscle mass without trying very hard. Others cannot do this without supplementing...and others can't do it even if they do supplement. Genetics mean a LOT when it comes to body style/look. For example, that Brad Pitt look you mentioned, I could never achieve it...no matter what i do. So first, understand your body style so you know what kind of build you can achieve...then go after that. You can do a lot of things in a gym, but you cannot change your bodytype.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) IIII know, none of you believe that two people can actually be open and honest with each other, but regardless of what y'all think, that's exactly what we're doing. I can't speak for anyone else, but IMO, people can be open and honest with each other TO A POINT. It's simply accepted that you don't tell her everything you think or feel, and she doesn't tell you everything, either, because let's face it...we're a flawed species, and some things are better left unsaid. If I have a crazy ass dream about having sex with a plethora of other women, or even an ex-girlfriend, would waking up and telling my wife about that awesome dream be a good idea? f*** no. But it would be open and honest. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) And she hasn't convinced me of anything. I was completely prepared to walk yesterday if she said no, or even I don't know. I said as much to her. I told her if that, by the end of this conversation and after our date, the answer was still "i don't know" then we need to go our separate ways, go no contact, move on, and truly heal. As for this...we call this stringing a person along. You told her, if you say X or Y, I'm leaving...and since it's obvious shes not 100% sure she wants that to happen...yet...she didn't say either X or Y, but instead of saying A, like you wanted, she said B. Now things can be kept alive while she's doing whatever else it is she's doing. I'm convinced something is up here...something doesn't feel quite right. Then again, I realize I'm completely guessing since I don't know this person...but I do know this situation quite well...and this situation looks like a job for Scooby and the Gang.

* Google terminates ActiveSync support * Google Apps no longer free for business use * Google Apps no longer free for new signups Those who already have free accounts, or paid business accounts will not be affected by this -- YET. I do not know if and when that will happen, but I assume its inevitable. I see no way Microsoft will extend it's ActiveSync contract with Google after this, when it expires... The search giant announced that it will stop supporting Google Sync, which enabled access to Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts via Exchange ActiveSync protocol. After January 30, 2013, new devices will no longer be able to set up the functionality which will however continue to function for existing users and users of Google Apps for Business, Government and Education. It will also be shutting down some Google Calendar features, which were termed to be ‘less popular’. Among these are features like Appointment Slots and some Calendar Labs functions like Smart Scheduler. Finally, it will be shutting down the Issue Tracker Data API and the Punchd app that was available for Android and iOS devices. More information here: http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?...;answer=2716936 ----- Thankfully I already have a free non-business account, so my email will continue to function as normal (I did not use ActiveSync anyway, so this news doesn't affect me). But for users or businesses that were using it, this is huge news, especially to those that had a BYOD (bring your own device) setup, ActiveSync allowed all of them to be implemented very similarly. My thoughts: An absolutely brilliant tactical maneuver by Google, but it highlights one of my recent arguments as to why Apple (and other companies) would be wise in accepting a short-term hit in order to remove reliance on anything Google related on their platforms. Google is smart...and Google is in business for Google, not for Facebook, ans surely not for Microsoft or Apple. * A lot of businesses started to incorporate Google Apps/Email specifically because it supported ActiveSync...this is a massive blow to these companies, because now they're going to be left wondering when all support for this protocol that Google doesn't own will end, via a decision from Google or even Microsoft. Google essentially lured them to become reliant on their services, and now they remove a very important protocol, especially when it comes to calendars/contacts. * Google uses CalDAV and IMAP, which covers everything I need, specifically, but this is going to hurt many people that thought it would be wise to use Google for email services.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) I swear that if WBC members showed up to a funeral of a family member of mine to protest it, whether it would be because one of those little kids were related to me or if God forbid one of my cousins in Iraq (two were serving there) were killed, they'd have to peel me away from them. These are some sick twisted f***s. I know this is one of those responding to absurdity with violence type things, but here we agree. These are vile, evil people and while I know it's an animalistic response, I'll make an exception in their case. These people need to be disposed of, violently.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) We obviously need better baseline federal regulations, but you can still modify on the state or local level from there. This was more my point.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) That doesn't undermine the concept of differing levels of gun safety in different areas...that just means you need to have some level of cooperation to make it work...or you need a registration system to just bypass the local dealer's jurisdiction. Agreed. But getting that kind of cooperation is next to impossible. Especially with neighboring suburbs, cities, and states constantly undermining each other for a multitude of reasons, including trying to lure businesses there with promises of less tax, better services, etc... If it's not done federally, it will never happen.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) I actually kind of like the local laws...but they'd actually need to be backed up by state and Federal laws and enforcement of laws against transport (preferably along with registration). Chicago ought to be able to have more stringent gun laws than some ranch in West Texas, for example. I can totally find logic in that. The issue winds up being the one you've pointed out...that a ban in Chicago only works as long as the cities next door aren't deliberately undermining it, and if the ban itself has teeth. If you had registrations for handguns, a handgun ban in Chicago, and confiscation+fines+prison for the owner if the handgun gets picked up in the city of Chicago...you could have a system that would work well. And I see no reason why the middle of Wyoming needs the same restriction. My point was addressed in your second sentence. The problem is they ARE undermined by neighboring areas.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) I just wish they could find a way to time the flyovers with the national anthem a little better. Those fly overs are for logging flight time/practice in order to retain your ability to pilot those jets. If they had no need to constantly log flight time in order to stay in practice, you wouldn't see flyovers happening at sporting events. It's not like they do them just to waste money.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) If this purpose is the best one you can think of for having such lax gun control laws then what the hell is wrong with this country? I never said having such lax gun control was a good thing. As a matter of fact, not long ago I said it needs to be federally mandated, no state laws, no local laws, etc...without that, there will never be real gun control here. I'm absolutely for effective restrictions on gun use/ownership, etc...I'm not arguing against it. I'm arguing against silly "bans" or restrictions that are local law only...they mean nothing.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) What is that purpose? Target practice? What's the point of target practice? To be better at shooting AT SOMETHING. Sorry but we have to agree to disagree. No, for some people, and I know people like this, the point of target practice is the point itself. They find it fun. They don't even take the guns home with them. They leave them at the ranges locked up. So, whether you want to admit it or not, this DOES happen.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Guns have a wide range of purposes: - Kill people - Kill animals - Practice shooting at targets so that you can one day kill a person/animal if you have to Or shooting at targets never having an intention of using it for any other purpose. People like this DO exist.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) It is not false. A car has a purpose outside of deadly harm. I agree with you about drinking and driving. But...a gun has no other purpose. As does a gun/bow/crossbow. It CAN be used for a purpose outside of deadly harm, whether you like it or not.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) Take up throwing darts. It's cheaper and safer. Well, we agree. My friends are into that shooting range crap...I went a few times for training on guns (my brother taught me), but I'm just not into it. I don't get a rush from it...and it makes me uncomfortable being there, knowing that any of those people could just start killing people for no reason. It's a scene I'm not into at all. I'd prefer darts at the bar. But you've been known to attack me at bars, so I wont play darts with you. Ever.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) OK...so by that argument...if I leave my house with a gun, it is also my intention to kill something, because the only use of a gun is deadly harm. That's simply false. Maybe you enjoy shooting at targets at the range, it's a hobby of yours. That right there is a use of a gun that's not deadly harm. Same goes for people who are into archery. Yes, you CAN kill someone with a bow/arrow, but that doesn't have to be it's ONLY use. Edit to my point: The use of a car isn't intended to kill people. But IMO, if you love having 10 drinks and driving, that IS your intention, whether you're sane or smart enough to admit it or not.
