  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) lol ok. see this is the reason this country is so divided. people like you won't see logic and reason if it smacks them in the face. First you need to be logical before people can see your logic. You aren't being that. Northside pointed out your hypocrisy pretty well, too.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) You can't out of one side of your mouth say you want out of the two-party system, and say out the other side that a vote for a 3rd party is wasted. If you want other parties or independents to have greater voice, then you need to support them when a candidate appears that better matches your beliefs. Bingo.
  3. This is why I voted for Gary Johnson. Hoping to make a difference someday in our rotten to the core two party system. While my vote may be viewed as wasted to some, at least I voted for 'something' other than the status quo.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) I would kill for an out of my wallet and out of my bedroom candidate. I actually wish they'd all be forced to add a vote of no confidence to the ballot (none of the above), I heard Jesse Ventura pose this idea once, and I thought it was brilliant. Worse, I think he's right...they won't do it because they know none of the above would win.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) I would kill for an out of my wallet and out of my bedroom candidate. The worst part is, from what I know of him, Reddy is a good guy...as are most people here. But this attitude that unless you vote for a D or R (or a winner), is wasting your vote is absurd to me...and unless he was kidding, I find it kind of sad.
  6. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) how's it feel to waste your vote? Is it a wasted vote to show that there is a section of the United States that's sick and tired of the D's and R's? I don't think so. How's it feel to be part of the problem that feels that voting other than D or R is wasting your vote? Less people like you would give us a more vibrant political system. What's worse, you don't even recognize that.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 06:50 AM) I also voted for Gary, but the numbers I saw this morning were that he didn't even make 1%. I believe he needed 5%. I also voted for Gary Johnson.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 06:46 AM) Nate the first one I've seen do a comprehensive study of how accurate all of the various polls have been historically, and factored in their historical biases into his equations. He actually gives more weight to polls that are historically more accurate. On the very last day before the election he flipped Florida from Romney having a 55.6% chance of winning to Obama having a 50.3% chance of winning, and look how that is the one state still too close to call, and he was right on the rest of the states. There is always the chance that one or more of the polls he uses acquires some new flaw that he can't account for, and there's always the chance that something major happens at the last minute to sway voters after it's too late for polling to pick that up, but his methodology is extremely solid. He's very good at what he does...but I don't think he's great at it because he's discovered some super secret algorithm or method that nobody else is privy too. I think he's great because of who he's being compared too. While doing this sort of work is time consuming, and I won't pretend it's not, I think he's successful because he's trying to NOT screw with his numbers when practically everyone else IS. When you look at others like Dick Morris, etc...it's apparent they fudge their numbers for who knows what reason. Maybe they want a segment on a talk show to talk about how they came up with their absurd numbers, and they realize that a week after the election nobody will care about how wrong they were, and then they can write 8 books on polling conspiracies! Silver seems content with extrapolating the truth (or as close to the truth as he can get), whether it shows his choice of candidate is winning or losing, while most of the others don't seem content with that. He probably sees this as his path to riches, while others see a different path. For some reason, they'd rather make it look like their candidate is winning when reality says otherwise. I think television stations also have a vested interest in making these races look closer than they actually are to keep eyes on their product (and advertisements). I'd probably feel Silver was some sort of mega genius if his "competition" wasn't a bunch of incompetent party shills. As it stands, I agree he's mostly accurate, but I think others could be too if they didn't have some other agenda in play.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) I am hesitant to do that...and while I don't think weed is a "gateway drug," I have to think that legalizing it might placate folks enough to not seek illegal drugs in as high of numbers I wish I wasn't ready to sleep, because this is a discussion I'd love to have with some of you. We should all earmark this for tomorrow, or a future discussion.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) well that's a poor idea. I don't have time to argue with you about it now...but I disagree. Legalize all of it, control all of it. Versus what we have now...no control at all.
  11. Well, anyway, I have to go eat some frozen yoghurt and go to sleep shortly thereafter. Three cheers for Obama, the President of the United States. Whether you stood with him or against him...stand by him now. He's my your our President. Respect that. To everyone who believes their guy won, congratulations. To everyone who thinks their guy was cheated, grow up and respect the office. Goodnight!
  12. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) I assume youre right since federal obviously trumps state law. But in regards to Colorado, a local police force would not be able to do anything about you smoking your joint on your front porch, if its the DEA though........ I actually don't know...I wonder if anyone here could shed some light on this. Personally, I think ALL drugs should be completely legalized. Enough of this black market s*** that kills more people than the drugs do.
  13. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:10 PM) and colorado legalized marijuana for recreational use http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/06/a..._n_2079899.html Isn't this all just for grins, though? Until *Federal* law, which supersedes state law, says it's legal...it's not. Or am I mistaken?
  14. QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:09 PM) Not necessarily your mouth, but others. I don't know why...I guess people want to convince themselves of some alternate reality. I just don't understand why. The ONLY way Romney stood a chance -- and I said this early on -- was if the economy suddenly crumbled, unemployment skyrocketed, and gas hit 5$+ a gallon immediately before the election. Neither happened. IMO, you don't need to be a genius pollster to predict Obama wins considering the circumstances.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:09 PM) Maine just did too! Maine. Maine is like a different country.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:06 PM) Where are you getting that info? Seattle Times showing both winning. I was just being me, Big Man. I think it will pass in a few places, but overall get rejected by the masses. Why...I don't know. Maybe I've just given up on people. Look at you. I met you and I started to believe again...and then you moved away.
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:02 PM) Maryland voted to legalize gay marriage. First state to do so by popular vote. I stand corrected. Maryland contains people that are not ignorant f***ing dumbasses. Too bad the other 49 states do.
  18. QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Before the election Nate Silver is a clueless dumbass and after he just knew what everyone else did. And please, don't put words in my mouth. Before the election, Silver is exactly the same thing he was after the election, someone that doesn't manipulate numbers just to make his 'side' the winner. He's more interested in reality than fiction. Again. Comparing him to the likes of Rove, Morris, et al...yes, he's a genius. And again, that's like comparing your baseball skills to a 6 year old with down syndrome. It doesn't make you smarter/faster/better...it just makes you not handicapped.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) Come on Washington. Where are the marijuana and gay marriage results? Rejected and no. People are still dumb.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:56 PM) Unfortunately, a lot of people tried to claim that all of the polling was in the tank for Obama (because for some reason they'd prefer that to being accurate). Many folks believed them. This board...not really -- you guys are smart, I'd imagine the Cubs message boards were the ones thinking Romney would get 300 electoral votes. I post on a HS Baseball Recruitment message board and they thought Romney would win 55% of the electoral vote. Lots of people are standing in echo chambers and never accept facts. This election is one more step towards the acceptance of facts. This is my point. Yes, in comparison to a bunch of retarded partisan kids, Nate Silver is a genius of polling! But in reality, he's one the the few that isn't manipulating numbers.
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) *sigh* Sigh yourself. You want to make Silver a genius when all he's doing is not lying with his educated predictions, while conversely, many others are lying for partisan reasons. In other words, STFU with your sigh.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:51 PM) The ridicule/celebration of silver isn't directed at soxtalk posters but dumb pundits. This is pretty much more along the lines of my point. People are making Silver out to be a genius when, in reality, he's simply being real, and not manipulating numbers to come to his conclusions. I don't think his "algorithms" are any better than anyone else's, he's simply not futzing with them for no apparent partisan reason.
  23. QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Did you ever think that was because of Nate Silver? Because I know my blowout prediction was based off his. Gotta love people. Before the election Nate Silver is a clueless dumbass and after he just knew what everyone else did. Never heard of him before this election, and didn't make my prediction based on anything he said. Yet I was still right. OMG I'M THE BESTEST.
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:44 PM) he is smarter... his polling models are pretty much perfect Practically everyone on this site made the same exact predictions.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 10:39 PM) There were plenty of dumb pundits who said otherwise. George will, Dick Morris, rove, , noonan and others were Al predicting big Romney wins, and many other pundits were saying "toss up" and "too close too call" So comparing myself to a bunch of retarded kids makes me smart, then?
