4/25 Game thread: @ Toronto, 6:07pm, CSN
Y2HH replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2016 Season in Review
It's a shame it looks like they're merely skipping a Danks start...because if this was my world, both Dank and Avi would receive the same message: -
*Gamethread* 4/21 - Angels vs White Sox
Y2HH replied to Bigsoxhurt35's topic in 2016 Season in Review
Why aren't they sending Avi down by now...he's totally useless. -
Hyperbolic, I know...but when Danks pitches, I won't bother watching anymore. I go out of my way to make sure Danks doesn't pitch games I attend. I just assume we lost when he starts, which we usually do, unless the offense puts up 7 runs, in which case he isn't winning, the offense is. Danks sucks...I want him gone. Replace him with anybody, I don't care.

I used to store it on iTunes, but I finally bit the bullet and just use Apple Music...too good of a deal these days to bother with music storage and organization. Any changes I make automatically syncs across all my devices/computers, and in the event I do a complete wipe, when I login it's all back to how I had it without having to deal with backups. 15$ a month for 6 family members to access a catalog of 30+ million tracks, comedy albums, videos, etc.? Done deal.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 01:40 AM) The back end of the rotation, Danks and Latos, have a combined 3.34 ERA. That would be the greatest coup in baseball history if it continued for the whole season. It won't. Latos isn't that good. Danks isn't that bad. It's pointless to care about these numbers now. Pick any baseball player and you can find a 15 game stretch last year where they were peak Ken Griffey Jr./Greg Maddux and another 15 games were they were busted feet Conor Gillaspie/2005 Shingo Takatsu. People are irrationally overly invested in this particular 15 games because it represents "THE ENTIRE SEASON." It pointless, it's stupid. Trevor Story, though he might be good, isn't Roy Hobbs. The only actual meaningful facts to note regarding Danks is that he's in the final year of his contract and the team has absolutely zero reason to do anything bother than use the best 5th starter they own, unlike the last few years. If he stinks amazingly and terribly enough for long enough the guys in Charlotte will get a shot and assuming we're competitive in June, a trade acquisition becomes a top priority. Thank you, Drake LaRoche. While I agree Latos isn't this good, I do believe Danks IS this bad.

QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 17, 2016 -> 09:48 PM) Finally upgraded to X1 from Comcast. The operating system is nice and generally smooth/easy to use, but the ability to stream almost all live TV (including Sox games) to my iPad is the killer feature. Ironically for Comcast, that feature alone is going to allow me to ditch my second box all together, because I've only kept it for live sports in the bedroom. Now I'll just use the streaming service and save $30/month. Less money for Comcast! How much did it cost to upgrade to X1?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) That doesn't make him everyone's favorite player. Good thing I never said it did.

22 is Pods. Period. He hit a walk off homer in the World Series. That alone wins him #22.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) That was a decent year. Meh, couldn't even win 100 games.

Trever Bauer crashed drone into new scoreboard
Y2HH replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, if a little plastic drone can cause that kind of damage, maybe the people that installed it should pay for it for selling us a scoreboard with the durability of Chris Conte. Seems like something that should be a bit tougher. -
Ohhh, baseball...welcome back. Now, please, please, please, please...let's get off to a decent start so I can enjoy some of this season!

I also love Hawk, and I'm going to miss him when it's over. Love him or hate him, he's OUR Harry Carey. He was the voice of a generation of White Sox fans, and despite the fact he's a total homer, he's OUR homer. He announced for us, with near complete bias in doing so. And I love him for it. His historic run in baseball is coming to an end...and when all is said and done, and all I have left is the memories, both annoying and not, I'll remember him with a fondness that's missing from a lot of sports today.

Hahah, I so love that someone made this just to put this whole stupid complaint to rest...

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 06:05 AM) Saw 10 Cloverfield Lane yesterday. Really great movie with John Goodman stealing the show. As it has been mentioned before, his performance is Oscar-worthy. I loved the ending. It didn't feel forced as to tie in the Cloverfield name. There were some clues throughout the film that helped make the ending work. Even before the ending, which was intense, there were some extremely suspenseful moments that had me gripping the arms of the chair. I would highly recommend the movie. Was really good. I think what hurt this movie (if anything) was the fact they tried to make it look like a sequel to Cloverfield in the previews when it had nothing to do with Cloverfield, and that kind of messed with my expectations.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) He listed all the problems he had with it. More than just the email thing. I can see some of his complaints. Everyone has an opinion. I agree, I can even agree with some of complaints, but others, not so much...people feel how they feel. Even the things I had issues were I just find minor to how much I enjoyed it overall.

On a lighter note, for any Batman fans, here is a cool phone wallpaper!

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Maybe Steve hasn't seen those movies, like most of the world. It's his opinion. RT is down to 29% so he's probably not alone in his negative opinions. Completely understandable. But 29% isn't near the lowest RT score of all time. And also, what is with people and RT? That site gave Dark Knight Rises almost a 90%...and that movie actually did suck.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) In my opinion, it is the worst movie I have ever seen. Let me go send Wonder Woman an email about this like Bruce Wayne did. So it's worse than Glitter and Gigli? Eh, you may not have seen those...but I'm positive you've seen worse movies. We get it, you hated it...and that's fine...but your complaining over an email is a bit silly. Let me go send an email to Wonder Woman because sending email to a person that showed up at one of your company sponsored events is so hard to do these days... I mean, let's question sending an email in a world where people fly, shoot lasers from their faces and entire cities gets destroyed in god death matches.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) I always thought that Central City was Chicago. Chicago just seems more Gotham to me than LA. Hence why I always thought of Chicago as Gotham. A city of corrupt politicians and gangsters -- which is what Gotham is. That's Chicago.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) I always considered Gotham to be New York and Metropolis to be Los Angeles. To be honest, I don't think this matters. When both were created, they really didn't exist in the same universe at all...it wasn't until later crossovers of the characters, such as the Justice League, etc., where they even started acknowledging other heroes existed in their worlds. Myself, I kind of felt Gotham was Chicago and Metropolis was NY. That said, I don't care that they were next to each other "across the bay"...it was convenient for the movie, and makes things a bit more realistic, otherwise a hero like Batman who cannot fly to co-exist with Superman, etc.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) I loved the nightmare he was having about the future. I think it will help set up some stuff in Justice League. That being said, I can see how it confused people who don't read the comics. I had to explain to my wife about what that was all about. Did you catch the Flash in that scene? He traveled back in time to warn Batman what was coming, a power The Flash has via his speed that he rarely uses. But yes, the biggest complaint I can see is this was VERY comic-bookie, and if you aren't aware of the DC universe, you'd miss a LOT of what went down in this movie. Even I missed stuff, but I'm ok with that, gives it re-watchability.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) It was decent, although it could have (should have) been better. It is far, far from the travesty some are making it out to be. Worst movie ever? LMFAO I agree it could have been even better than it was, but given the creative challenge of basically creating the entire DC universe with a single movie, I think it did a pretty damn good job. First off, I'm a huge fan of Batman and Superman, by far my favorite two superheroes. I don't care about Jimmy Olsen. (SPOILERS COMING IN CASE ANYONE DIDN'T SEE IT) They kill Olsen off at the beginning of the movie without ever so much as even naming him. A lot of fans got what I tend to call "fake upset" about this, because let's be honest...Jimmy Olsen is a minor character of almost zero importance today. Batman has been doing this for decades, and he's come to the point (he says so much in the film), that he's tired of criminals and losing ground to them because he's always played by the rules and they do not. Alfred mentioned to him that he's become cruel in this scene...but it's clear that this Batman is damaged emotionally (see the Robin scene), and simply doesn't give a f*** anymore. I LOVED that about this Batman. He's just DONE playing games and he's going to punch peoples faces into the ground. Which he did. And it was awesome. I loved the dream sequence, and in case anyone didn't catch the dream sequence or what it foreshadowed, that was Darkseid: Note the winged demons in the dream and the omega symbol. While I wasn't fond of the way they created Doomsday in this movie, I let it go, because let's be real, logic leaps like this are kind of necessary in superhero movies...and also, when Doomsday first emerged, I thought it looked stupid...HOWEVER, after a few battlescars, I was like yes...NOW THAT'S DOOMSDAY. I loved the finale of the fight scene between Batman and Superman, and I feel this pivotal scene is what just flew over most peoples heads. The fact that Bruce Wayne and Superman's mothers shared the same name is what kicked this older, emotionally damaged Batman out of his rage long enough for him to finally put two-and-two together. Superman wasn't just some foreign alien that "could decide to kill all of humanity", which Bruce Wayne eludes too in his conversation with Alfred...and as Batman, at the moment, he realized that while Superman may not be from Earth, his connection with an Earth mother, etc., makes him human. Lois, I love the actor, but once again she's used to show up whenever/whenever she's necessary for little reason, and it's stuff like this I think they could have done better...BUT, that's why I didn't rate it 10/10. All in all, I loved the secrets hidden throughout the movie...and while yes, it could have been better...it was way better than a lot of other superhero movies I've seen.

QUOTE (bshah723 @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) $424 million dollars this weekend. Making it the highest grossing comic book movie of all time. Seems like critics and sox talk hate the movie but the world still went to go watch. Next few weeks like Balta said the numbers will more than likely drop due to bad reception. It's not a movie for everyone, but watching the trinity on screen together is/was amazing. Bring on suicide squad baby!!! Let's see how a non synder movie is made. I love David Ayers work. It will continue doing well because nothing is coming out until mid April that could possibly compete with it. I still loved it. 3/4 stars for me. Looking forward to Suicide Squad now.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) Marvel and DC movies are so much different from each other, I don't even like the compare them. I get tired of the constant "who's side are you on" question. I'm pretty sure both probably want the other to be successful. If each company starts putting out bad movies, the Superhero phase will die out, which it will eventually do anyway sometime in the future. But until then, if both companies make great movies, the competition will only help both franchises financially. I think most of that's just done in fun. We have to remember what these movies are, and it's pretty much pure popcorn entertainment. I think people trying to apply any sort of logic to these movies is silly.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 25, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) Yep, no one can have their own opinions and everyone hates it because everyone is taught to like Marvel and this is too dark. Everyone has biased opinions but yours are completely untainted. Seems like you didn't even read the post you replied too. You are absolutely free to have an opinion on it, and I'm free to disagree. See how that worked? It's crazy...like magical even.
