4/6/11 - Sox vs. Royals - 1:10 (CSN)

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) So it' more logical to do nothing at all when you have a recurring problem than at least TRY something when you, in theory, have nothing to lose? Yeah, good logic. Seriously, do you think a hitting coach is this teams problem? Because if you, you're wrong. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) I know that but they atruggling to be a team a home that can esily lose 100 games and the D'back starting pitching has shut them down and they suck. They're .500, we are about to be less than .500. And the Cubs aren't considered good, we are. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Someone can't word posts correctly I guess. "Hitting coaches are pointless." "Then no reason for us to try a new one since things need to change, right?" "No..." lol. At the very least it's a contradiction. Again, no. My belief that they're pointless, because they are, kind of goes hand in hand that changing a pointless position won't change anything. Someone can't read...again. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) cubs are keeping me entertained at least. the D'backs are terrible and they easily could have swept the cubs at home. Only the Cubs won the first two. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Instead of changing the hitting approach, I'd rather there be a change in the mind-set that outs while up to bat need to be valued, so stop making stupid running blunders on the bases and eliminate stolen base attempts. On the other side, show some type of proactivity in holding runners on or pitching out in obvious steal attempts. Or not pitching to good hitters in the 9th with a man on second, one out, and first base open? No, let's blame Walker...again. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) You're the one making excuses. You claim hitting coaches are pointless then when I suggest the changing of ours you avoid the idea? Typical around here. When bad habits don't change, you try new things, simple as that. This team has been offesively stupid for years now and no one's gonna say Walker has *nothing* to do with it. Wtf? I'm the one NOT making excuses. Someone can't read. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Cool, then you'd agred with me if I said fire him (and try out someone else just to see if there's any change), right? lol. No, because it's a poor excuse for professionals to pretend they require a batting coach. They should hit regardless, especially if they're good hitters. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) History and current evidence says that won't stay that way. You can quote me on that. They're professional hitters. Batting coaches are not necessary in the majors, and everyone here knows it. Blaming walker or crediting walker is just dumb. -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) I believe this has been said the last 3 years, too. Sorry, but blaming Walker is retarded, we've scored a lot. -

QUOTE (zygoat @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Lasting Milledge should not be playing left field. Put him at DH - he has misread a ball and double clutched which cost us both runs. Does it matter. We would still be getting destroyed. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Masterson is a good pitcher, especially if his command is on. Against the Sox, all bad pitchers are Cy Young. -

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Too early for This.Team.Is.Dead? lol No, it's not. This team just isn't good from everything I've seen. Can't field. Can't pitch. And can't hold what should be insurmountable leads. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Haha - Me too. I have a few techy friends that have there's jailbreaked solely for that reason (on ATT, I don't personally know anyone who has an Iphone unlocked on Tmobile). I'll be curious to see if they have gotten hit. They are all on grandfathered unlimited data plans and use there phones for everything. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/03/att-tethering/ That's the story on hacked tethering.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) If all you were getting was both. Why not buy the iphone and ipad at full price (assuming you want to blow all 1500 on those two things, which I'm not sure that you do), and jailbreak it and put it on the tmobile network, where, for the time being you can be saving cash on the monthly dues. Plus by jailbreaking your iphone you have a walking hotspot for your Ipad. You spent more of your companies $1500 and maybe lose out on another device you'd want, but at the same time, you cut your monthly bills, which you'd have to pay out of pocket. That's not jailbreaking, it's unlocking. Jailbreaking can be undone, unlocking cannot be, as it alters the baseband code, and makes future updates harder to perform, as now you can only install hacked code onto the phone, because default upgrades would again alter the baseband back to AT&T's and brick the phone. As for the stolen hotspot software, that's over with. You can't get away with jailbreaking and using the 25$ hotspot software off the black market anymore (yes, it's 25$, not free, although a one time cost). AT&T has figured out how to tell if people are illegally tethering and are charging them now...so that free meal is over. Most carriers will be following suit on this. My assumption on how they can tell if you are tethering is the browser code and identification codes coming across their network are changed...or, it could be that they can tell via out of norm traffic usage. Either way, they've been signing up hackers for tethering plans. This applies to hacked iphones and androids, in either case, they can tell if you are illegally tethering now.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) I look forward to Sara Palin's comments to McCain after his state is suggesting implementing fines for unhealthy citizens. I mean she has to say something after crucifying Michelle Obama for merely suggesting kids eat healthier, right? Dude, seriously...I know you're being sarcastic, but why in the world would you look forward to anything Sarah Palin has to say?! Even if for the comedic factor, there are far better stand up comedians out there you should watch, instead. The ENTIRE left needs to stop obsessing about Palin...she's an idiot. A rich idiot that struck gold while the gettin' was good...but still an idiot. Now let's move on and ignore her...the world will be better off. I hate watching people like Palin get rich off of people obsessing over her being a leader or being retarded...either way, she wins...and us middle class people LOSE. Stop making idiots like her win. Please. For the love of the world, stop it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) What kind of %@##$% locks a thread!?!! No seriously though Y2HH and I had a very civil discussion via PM and I think we both agreed that it was probably best before we both made one too many flippant/sarcastic insults at each other for SoxTalk's tastes. Ahhhhh, thread reopened! StrangeSox sucks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) People who don't want the US to get involved in foreign wars and affairs at all are living in fantasy-land. I agree and think we should help when we can, for the right reasons and under the right circumstances. However, the way we do it, which involves getting the US in lengthly (multi year) and very expensive war(s) is something we can no longer afford, IE, we do it the wrong way these days.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Well, presumably he's under 26, so under the new health care bill he can stay on his parent's insurance for some additional time. And if he's taking a 3 month vacation, vacation time might not be the concern. That depends on a two important factors. 1) His parents have to be willing to keep him on their employee sponsored insurance (this isn't free for them), as the difference in cost between family coverage, husband/wife coverage and single coverage is hundreds of dollars, which they will be paying out of their checks. So depending on his families situation, this could cost his parents 100+$ per month, or cost them nothing if they already have other children and continue to require a "family plan". 2) His parents insurance plan has to allow it, and they don't have too in light of his new employment status. Most people don't know this, but if your child is elegible for their own employee sponsored coverage, you have to notify your (the parents) insurance company, as under the new law, the parents insurance company can opt to NOT cover that child until 2014 under those circumstances. The Law: Coverage Extended to More Children. The goal of this new policy is to cover as many young adults under the age of 26 as possible with the least burden. Plans and issuers that offer dependent coverage must offer coverage to enrollees’ adult children until age 26, even if the young adult no longer lives with his or her parents, is not a dependent on a parent’s tax return, or is no longer a student. There is a transition for certain existing group plans that generally do not have to provide dependent coverage until 2014 if the adult child has another offer of employer-based coverage aside from coverage through the parent. The new policy providing access for young adults applies to both married and unmarried children, although their own spouses and children do not qualify

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Thanks everyone! As you can imagine, it's a tremendous weight off my shoulders. Now for one more question: Should I start on May 23 or August 8? Those are my options. I'm leaning towards August since that would give me a whole summer to do whatever I wanted. But, I'd also get 11 more weeks of pay if I start in May, and I'm really excited to start my job and I feel like I'll go crazy waiting 3 more months. Any suggestions? Btw, I graduate on May 13 so that would give me 10 days if I choose the May start date. Start the job in May, they may be trying to figure out if you are serious about working there, or would rather have a summer off...while they may still hire you, they may think less of you for future promotions, etc. in light of your decision. Or, it may be nothing...and they may not care if you start in May or August. Personally, you got the job you wanted the most...so take it now, and start in May. With the current job environment, I would leave nothing to chance to be perfectly honest.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I'll say again... nice idea, and I'd agree, except for the whole problem where we are beholden to a lot of these countries for our resources. Get us materially off foreign oil, get our debt significantly rolled back, and get more of our basic resources handled either in-country or from friendlier nations, and then your idea has merit. Until then, its simply impractical. For some of them sure...but we involve ourselves in many things that have no bearing on us...like Libya...we get NO oil from them. Let the EZ handle them from the get go, they're the ones that get resources from there...not us.
