  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) I am getting a lot of pop up windows while on the internet in chrome that I wasn't getting before. I ran two different anti virus programs and removed over 200 threats but still hasn't worked. Any ideas? Jebus...if you ran AV and it removed over 200 threats -- that probably means you're infested with self-repairing viruses and/or self replicating viruses (essentially, they return even after they're removed). If this was me, I'd be doing a full on format and start from scratch, because odds are your system is beyond owned. I sure as hell wouldn't be doing anything on that computer involving personal information, credit cards, or banks.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) My two cents 1. Star Wars Trilogy - all three movies would be in my top 10, just easier to leave them as a package deal. 2. War of the Worlds - The original, not the steaming pile of feces with Cruise 3. Blazing Saddles 4. Hoosiers 5. Office Space 6. Clerks 7. Back to the Future 8. The Untouchables 9. The Godfather (1 and 2 are a package deal in my mind, and 3 doesn't exist) 10. White Men Can't Jump - Don't judge. I love the opening scene of the movie I honestly didn't think the Tom Cruise led War of the Worlds was all that bad -- as a matter of fact, I think it was pretty damn good.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) So now that oil prices are plunging even more than anticipated, this puts Saudi Arabia in an awkward position. The prices fell too fast, so other OPEC countries haven't dropped out as fully as they wanted. They are starting to implement budgetary changes that their populace won't like, in order to plug the gap. If they cut down supply now, it may not be enough to drive the prices back up in a big way anymore, so they'd just be throwing away money. If they keep up this path, they'll run out of cash quicker than planned. Not a great place for them to be. After years of oil market rigging and price manipulation, they're getting what they deserve. They can all go f*** themselves.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) I'd have a hard time even listing them, so I'll do a slightly modified list... really good movies that get better the more often you watch them (not in order, just what pops into my head)... Jaws The Hunt for Red October The first 95% of The Abyss (I'm still bitter he had a fantastic film and stabbed it in the back with the super-goofy ending scenes) Sneakers Memento The Game The original Indiana Jones movie Inside Man The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Again, that's just off the top of my head, and specifically movies that I appreciate more and more over time, which I think is a hallmark of a very good film. But I'm also sure that other titles are slipping my mind that are even better. Sneakers is a great one, highly underrated.
  5. Now, for a few of my personal choices -- in no particular order. Tombstone Back to the Future Shawshank Redemption Goodfellas Rocky Inception Stand by Me The Color of Money The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly Pulp Fiction There are so many others, but I've not time to think of them at the moment.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) Not to be a dick, but I think The Dark Knight Rises is a bad Batman movie and easily the worst one in the new trilogy. That's not being a dick, it's telling the truth. Rises is a terrible movie, and the more you watch it the more you realize it.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:58 AM) Stock market poised for a 430 point loss at the opening bell due to China.... It'll recover a bit from that -- but it's still exciting. This should open a few buy in opportunities now that the suckers are running scared.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) OK, financial advice question: I have $8k with which I can pay down some debt. These are the two options I'm considering. 1) Eliminate my nearly $8k in credit card debt. Balance is currently under a 5% balance transfer period that will go up to 19% in a year. Even, if I don't use the $8k for this, I can still probably get 60-80% of the balance paid down by the time the rate goes up in a year. 2) Pay down $8k of my $25k loan against my retirement account. The interest rate is only 2%, but that extra $8k in my retirement account could earn (or lose) significant amounts based on what the markets do. Or I could split the $8k between the two in some way. Any thoughts? In this instance, I'd recommend using the Dave Ramsey debt snowball. As someone else already stated, the loan against your 25K retirement account is dangerous because if you lose that job it becomes due immediately...so let's pretend you won't lose your job. 1) Put 1,000 of that money aside for an emergency. Let's pretend you pay off that 8K, and tomorrow your alternator dies...now you get to borrow money again to fix your car because you just spent all of it. That 1,000 is NOT to be touched for anything outside an emergency such as a medical bill, or a car repair, etc...no, wanting to eat at the Capital Grill is not an emergency. 2) Put 7,000 to the smallest debt, which in your case is the credit card. Then, after you pay off the remainder of that credit card balance in the coming months, roll any money you would have paid against the credit card into the 401k loan. This is the "snowball", so if you were paying $200 to the credit card and $200 to the 401k loan, AFTER the credit card is gone, the snowball rolls down the hill a little and gets bigger -- now you're paying 400$ against the 401k loan. Get it? 3) While his get out of debt advice is solid, do NOT take any investment advice from Dave Ramsey.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) So shiny....and empty. Not sure I trust this...it's a trap!
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:56 AM) You could at least have some nice promotional tie-ins with the Jurassic Park series with Crazy Carl. Carl no believe in dinosaur.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) Couldn't she be a Kenobi? Ole Ben coulda been a real horndog back in the day, we just didn't see it on film. Only if she's related to a son/daughter/cousin of Ol' Ben, otherwise she'd be in her 50's.
  12. They can bring back Carl Everett...he can probably play OF as good as what we have. /s

    QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Tarantino has a new Magnus Opus. Just saw H8tful in 70mm, it was amazing. Going to disagree. Pulp Fiction remains his Magnum Opus...and Hateful Eight is awesome -- if you like overly drawn out boring movies with sprinkles of bloody action in-between.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) should we go back and exclude hall of famers from prior to the steroid era that were using greenies and coke and amphetamines like it was going out of style? Sooooooooooo not the same as PED's.
  15. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) As much as I didn't like the prequels, until Lucasfilm/Disney says otherwise, the prequels are absolutely 100% canon. Anything mentioned in them as having had happened is canon. Disney already addressed this, quite clearly. On April 25, 2014, Lucasfilm and Disney removed all Expanded Universe works from the canon. They announced that the existing six films and The Clone Wars television series are the "immovable objects" of Star Wars storytelling.
  16. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) Saw it again - definitely not Craig's voice, and he & JJ have denied it. FWIW. They denied it before it came out. It's him, he's since admitted it. Try Google next time. https://www.google.com/search?q=daniel+crai...19&ie=UTF-8 Not to even mention he's (un)credited on IMDB.com as being in the movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2488496/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_2
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) She also controlled a storm trooper's James Bond's mind. That ST was Daniel Craig.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Counting from Nixon, eight years....Carter, then 12 of Reagan/Bush. 20/24 Then after G. W. Bush, 28/40. Dominance! You aren't very good at math. Nixon/Ford - 8 years Carter - 4 years Reagan - 8 years Bush - 4 years Clinton - 8 years Bush - 8 years Obama - 8 years That's 20 total years of Democrats And 28 years of Republicans
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Nobody has a chance. Say what you want about the Democrats, they know how to dominate Presidential elections. Hillary is a lock. Bernie is playing nice so he can be the VEEP. He'd actually be pretty perfect. People have heard of him and he's kind of boring. He'd fit in perfectly in that role of standing up for Hilly. I tell you, Obama is pretty likeable and he couldn't work with Congress. Good luck to Hillary. Those Repubs aren't going to want to help her out AT ALL. You mean aside from the Reagon, Bush, and Bush Jr years...seems like its'a pretty even split as to who wins the white house to me.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) There is not much you can do now then. Personally I would stay true to the stock funds now, but not aggressively. Guessing at your age, I would say something like 70/30 stock to bond ratio. If you play the safe Boglehead method, whatever your age is, is the % of bonds you invest in. Personally, I do this now, and I'm 40. I just recently started this split. 60% S&P500 Index 20% Foreign Index 20% Bond Index But, up until I was 40, I did a simple 80% S&P500 Index 20% Foreign Index. I'll do no rebalancing, I'll just let the 60/20/20 grow from this point forward and slowly tweak it as time goes on, as I near retirement I'll begin rebalancing portions of the equities into bonds, before ultimately cash. The biggest thing I stress to people is fees, fees, fees. AVOID THEM. They don't sound like a lot, but compounded over the amount of years you invest, the difference between a 0.10% basis and a 1% basis is a LOT more than the 0.9% it appears as.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Really dumb markets question: Why do super-low oil prices drag down all of the markets? Very annoying that I can't get cheap gas and 401k growth at the same time. They really shouldn't. It's out of date thinking that pegs oil prices to the sign of economic strength. It's nothing more than short term market manipulation. It's exactly like "analysts" making up "supply chain issues" to tank Apples stock every quarter leading up to earnings (which is when these same people buy the cheaper stock), only for Apple to demolish earnings and remind everyone that NOBODY understands their complex supply chain. The stock then rockets short term, until everyone forgets, they sell, and those same analysts tank Apples stock again by making up the same false rumors. I think these people should be investigated. The thought that if people aren't spending their money at the pump that they'll simply save it is stupid...if I only spend 20$ on gas, it means I have 20$ to spend elsewhere, it does NOT mean that I'm not ever going to spend that saved 20$.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 11:45 AM) i thought my post was also a pretty obvious joke I did not get that, I thought you were serious.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) i am considering banning, despite your good work in the tech thread Banning for what? That's a pretty obvious joke.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) Why can't NL players hit in the AL? Not sure I understand the logic behind this theory. Adam Dunn Adam LaRoche It's not a theory...it's fact. Or maybe it's just players named Adam.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) Ha. I think I am a bit too young for those. I remember hiding in the hallway for tornado drills or under my desk for earthquake drills but no WW3 drills. The WW3 drills were the best. It was the only time in your life that you believed a wooden desk would prevent a nuke from killing you. As an adult, I realize that was the exact intent of the drill...to make the kids feel safe. It worked. I remember a time wondering if the world was going to be over the following day...be glad you've never had to feel that.
