  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) encoding? Checked that. didnt change anything. The only other thing it can be is your font/language. Being that it works fine for you in IE, it doesn't sound like a system preference.
  2. I heard he has Joey Cora acting as his interpreter and speaking for him, too...despite the fact that Mannywood speaks and understands English. The Mannywood Show has begun.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) a guy who couldnt get the callup from the nationals? Im sorry, pass He had a 1.86 ERA over 9 innings. I don't care how old he is...if he can keep that up I'd take him.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) I need a little tech support. I went to BleacherReport.com and Digg.com and had some crazy font issues. I used both Chrome and FireFox (on a windows computer) and had the same problem. however, in IE8 it's completely fine. Below is an image of what the page looked like. Any ideas of what is wrong? Check your encoding.
  5. I don't care what anybody says about this...
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) Paul Allen Files Patent Lawsuits Against Entire Web … Except Microsoft An interesting, if not far fetched, theory was presented by Adam Curry: Allen is bring this lawsuit HOPING that he gets defeated as an attempt to put a major dent in the credibility and existence of software patents. If this is true,
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) I have no idea what you're talking about. Is this via mail? MMS? I think he's talking about MMS, maybe Verizon loaded some sort of "special" software on his phone, because whatever it is, it doesn't sound normal. Not that I know, since I don't own an Android anyway, but still...sounds odd. Oh, and Kotsay has been impeached, you're mission was successful.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) My classes will be using an on-line classroom environment for some projects. One of the components is a forum. I have the laptops out and they are learning to start posts and reply to posts. Finally something I am teaching something I know about. Some kid named Miguel is already the class champ. Have you introduced them to the "How to handle the troll/y2hh type" portion of the class yet?
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) Well that's annoying. Well, it can be. I'm a power user to an extent most here couldn't begin to understand, however, I've never had or felt the need to access my iOS devices file system...just, no real need. For a desktop computer, it's necessary, for a portable device, it's really not, so long as my the files I do use can be opened with the app they're related too, etc.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) That link was helpful, didn't see that one before - thanks! I don't think file sharing works quite the same way as you'd normally expect with Apple products. There are apps out there that let you move files around, etc, but without jailbreaking, you never have direct access to the iOS devices file system.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) I took a "promotion" that awarded me a 17% pay increase and 5% bonus increase and I still made nearly $20K less than I did when I was hourly. The sad thing is that I'm not working that much less now and also get a lovely 2-week stretch of uncompensated oncall every couple of months. Climbing the ole ladder....gotta love it. Sounds like IT work.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) Alright, so, here is a question for some of you tech folks, and further, for Apple-ites. I work in tech, but big machine tech, and I'm not necessarily up on the latest PC/laptop/portable computer capabilities... I'd love to have an iPad or similar device - one which is highly portable, travels well, has full laptop-like functionality, etc. But, there are a few potential issues. One, the iPad doesn't have a ton of memory space - and I have like 60 GB of data (mostly pictures, iTunes and rasterized maps), and that number goes up all the time. Two, I live my financial life in Quicken, and I am not sure you can even run Quicken on Apple products at all, let alone an iPad. Three, I'd like to also have a real keyboard and dual monitor setup at a desk as well. So I was thinking, my ultimate setup would be to have a dual monitor setup on a desk, but also an iPad or similar device, that acted like a remote device. The main computer could store everything, use Quicken and some mapping programs, etc. But I would still want to take the iPad with me, and have it at least have some of the files on the PC stored on it as well, in addition to all the usual programs. As a final addition, I'd like it if my wife's iPad or similar could also hook up with the base computer, and do the same sorts of things. Is there a reasonably cheap way to make that work? I mean, obviously I'd need the iPad or two, and the monitors and keyboard. But does Apple make a standing computer that can act in the way I describe, that could be the base station? Could they all communicate wirelessly as well? They cannot synch wirelessly for general items such as iTunes synching -- yet anyway, this functionality will come. Some iPhone/iPad apps CAN synch wirelessly, however, but it depends on the app and if the makers of that app implemented it. For example, my password encrypter (1password), synchronizes wirelessly to my Mac. iPAD's don't have unlimited storage space (no portable devices do), so you have to pick and choose what you want to bring with you on the portables, for example, you take a few gigs of your music, not ALL of your music, pictures, etc. Quicken for Mac : http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance...al-software.jsp Quicken for iPhone/iPad : http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance...application.jsp These devices work with Windows or OSX (Mac's), so it doesn't matter what your base station is, Windows or otherwise, iPods/iPhones/iPad's can synch to them via iTunes just like anything else. Apple computers can use any monitor/monitors you have, so you don't "have" to buy Apple branded monitors, they will work with your Dell or HP monitors, too. Not sure what questions I missed.

  14. Guys that do this weird me out...always have. Any guy I've ever met/seen that does this, everyone I know can't help but look at their eyebrows whenever they talk to them...because it looks odd/displaced/wrong. It looks like reality distorted and something odd happened to their face...you know exactly what it is, mind you, but you pretend to not notice, despite staring at them and thinking OMFG.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) I was the same way in college, but now out of undergrad, you realize how great of a time it was. Never again will you be free of responsibilities and so carefree. You aren't kidding.
  16. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) It's your fault. What'd I do?!
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Hey now. I'm not the douche that many portray me as. You can tell nobody likes any of us.
  18. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) So I feel like a real retard asking this question, but here we go. Going to buy an IPhone very soon for the 1st time, probably the IPhone4 assuming they have it in stock. I basically don't want to get locked into a long - term contract etc. especially if I'm changing countries in the next 12 months, which is still a big possibility. I would assume my best option is to buy it from Apple directly, and then get a month by month micro sim from a provider over here? If I did this (having the phone unlocked from my original purchase), I'd then be able after say 6 months if I moved to the US to take my sim out of the IPhone without screwing it up and get a brand new micro sim deal from say T-Mobile or AT&T? EDIT: That's unless someone can sell me on getting a Samsung Galaxy on the Android platform instead. Most of these phones cost upwards of 700$ if you buy them without contracts, and many of them cannot be purchased from most retail stores without contracts, either. With contracts, the providers subsidize your price by paying for some of the phone on your behalf, such as an iPhone costing 199 or 299 depending on the storage space, these same phones retail without contracts for around 699$. The same applies to Android smart phones without contracts. The most popular models of phones tend to be sold with contrats only...because they know you want it that badly, they figure they can force you into a deal. :/ I doubt you can get an iPhone 4 this way (without a 2 year contract) in a usual manner, you'd probably have to ebay a no contract i4, which like I said, will cost a lot for this very reason. Also, you have to be careful when purchasing a lot of US branded phones, while the iPhone will work in most overseas markets, many other phones sold in the US will not, you have to check first. Since AT&T uses the GSM network, and most foreign countries also use GSM, you can sim swap and have a working phone abroad, many other phones, such as Verizon phones, cannot work overseas as they do not use compatible infrastructures. And this are not stupid questions, either, as this is all very confusing. As for selling you on one platform vs another, there is no real way to do that unless it's done out of fanboi ignorance. I personally use iOS, however, that does not mean iOS is what would be best for you. Same goes for Android, while that works better for many, that does not apply to everyone, either. I would have to know you, your tastes, etc, in order to make a real suggestion, otherwise blindly recommending something is ignorant. Since the iPhone tends to be more locked down (unless you jailbreak it), it's often easier to use for people looking for a modern smart phone with a lot of 3rd party support (in terms of both 3rd party hardware and apps), as it's uniform design assure the same end user interaction across devices. I.E., if you've used one iPhone, you've used them all. Android can be different in terms of look/feel on different hardware, etc., and while this makes Android no worse (some would argue the massive amount of choice is even better), it does add a minor level of complexity that some people do not care for.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Have a great one fellas!! From you of all people!
  20. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Studies have shown that more data is actually used on Verizon than on AT&T despite the iPhone. Who knows though. By the way, you should ask about AT&T in your area. In smaller cities, AT&T is pretty good. Here, we have no problem. 3G will cut out in the farms, but I don't drop calls. I know a lot of people with AT&T and no one complains. Chicago and NYC are another story... That study is "per user data", not overall data. On average, Verizon Android users use more data than the average iPhone owner, however, there are millions upon millions of iPhone users, all on one network, where as Android users are spread out across multiple carriers, including AT&T's. I live in Chicago, and almost never have dropped call issues with AT&T, only in the office building I work in, other than that it's fine.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Some of the places I read suggested the problem could actually be related to Verizon's network, either it being excessively hit by a new type of phone or that the phone was struggling to interface with that network. I hate AT&T as much as anyone and that's why i don't have an iPhone yet, but there is some logic to the argument that the reason AT&T's network is below everyone else's in quality is that they have iPhones on it. (Edit: one way to test this of course would be to put an iPhone on another network and let holdouts like me finally have the chance to buy and use them). It'd take more than one or two iPhone's on Verizon's network to make a difference. A few million would be a more "real world" test. In either case, AT&T's network *should* be able to handle the number of iPhones/other phones on it, otherwise AT&T should STOP selling new contracts, because it's obvious they can't support them. And I have to tell you, as an iPhone4 owner/user, the things you've read are FAR overblown hype. My phone works fine, and I've never had dropped call issues aside from in the office I work in, but my AT&T blackberry has the same issues up here on the 18th floor. Aside from that, my data speeds are great, the phone reception is great, too. It's very dependent on where you live, use it, etc...but that applies to all mobiles. As for the Droid 2 reception issues, no matter how far reaching they may end up being, my point was that Moto/Verizon should have done more to assure there were no issues before releasing the phone, the fact that their forums are filling up with complaints show there is an issue. That said, it's just embarrassing in light of the I4 issue they went out of their way to make fun of, they should have been more careful.
  22. The Motorola Droid 43 -- err, 2 -- made it's debut late last week and is apparently plagued by worse reception problems than any phone in history. You'd think that in light of the recent iPhone4 controversy, that Motorola/Verizon went out of their way to make fun of, that they would have went out of their way to make sure something like this wouldn't happen...
  23. I think overall KW has done an outstanding job trading away prospects that never amounted to much over time for some decent return (and in one case, exceptional return in 05).
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) The scene in Saving Private Ryan where the American soldier is slowly stabbed to death by the German who was calmly telling him it would be OK in German. To add to this, it was a Jewish American soldier, which kind of heightens the effectiveness of the scene.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Just picked up the radiotime app for my android phone since it has The Score 670. What are the odds that it won't have the Sox games streamed? I don't think they can because MLB sells such a streaming service and it would probably violate contractual agreements over online decimation of the broadcast. I have a similar app for my iPhone that I use to listen to 670 the score when I'm out of town, etc...but I've never tried it during a Sox broadcast.
