  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) False. Apple is perfect. Needs to be green.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Lets just say it wouldn't be considered a web gem. That depends on who you ask. I asked Hawk if it was a web gem, and he said it was the best play ever and I cried because I still haven't seen it.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) How about: "The original intent of the generous pension plans teachers everywhere get was to reward them later for pay sacrifices now. Since public sector jobs now outpace private sector jobs in pay, both actual and realized when benefits are factored in, why can we not eliminate the pension entirely and have the employees on social security, 401k's etc like the rest of the people who pay their salaries?" The fact that public sector jobs outpace private sector jobs in pay is just...I cannot summon the words for how stupid/bad/ridiculous this is. I have to go now, because just thinking about this makes me want to stab kittens.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) There are well documented complaints from iPad users who get terrible or no wi-fi signals even though other devices are able to get the signal. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36223698/ns/te...ch_and_gadgets/ Yea, I know about those. I'm sure that'll be fixed soon. There are some WiFi settings that are messing them up, but for the most part they work if you don't configure your WiFi all goofy, or not at all so you're SSID is the same as your neighbors, and their neighbors (I've seen this).
  5. QUOTE (SteveB23 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Teahen showed cojones last night! Peavy, Pierre and Alexei (at bat) on the other hand...(Alexei did make a play at SS that saved the game!) I wish I could see the play that Alexei made, I can't find it.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) If Cuba started drilling for oil off the coast of Miami and the U.S. continued a moratorium on drilling there, you'd be ok with that and wouldn't complain? If it's on US soil or water, I probably wouldn't be ok with it. If it's their own property, then it's their own business. There is a lot of stuff going on in the world in other countries I disagree with -- but it's not my job to leverage my moral beliefs or my countries laws on them, either. I think the US will emerge as a technological force when it comes to alternative energy in the future, despite it looking like the opposite. I'm sure plenty of money is being spent here on these things, we just don't know about them yet.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) But you'll at least be able to use a non-Apple router to get a wi-fi signal. You can do that now with any/all Apple devices. I'm not sure I get the intended point here.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) ?? don't see how you can say Jones was MORE valuable - his hits came while there was still game left to be played. Teahen's HR and then his triple tied the game then put us ahead. Just doesn't get more valuable than that. I don't see how you can say Jones was LESS valuable. Without Jones hits, Teahen's hit's were useless. But let's not think about it that way.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) The sad thing is...that's the classic American attitude, and guess what it means is going to happen? Canada's going to make a fortune developing that energy source. Because they're already pumping money into doing so. Yea, because that's exactly what's going to happen. I know. I know. Everyone's going to surpass the US in everything, but all I'm going to do is b**** about it on the Internets and make boastful claims of what I'll never actually do!#$! IF all of these things are true, and you truly believe in them, it'd be wise to invest in all those foreign companies and probably try to gain foreign citizenship while getting the hell off the sinking ship that is the US! That would be logical, anyway. However, instead of doing that [you] will use the "classic American attitude" of soap boxing about how much better everything is elsewhere and how much better they are at doing it -- but you won't actually leave here to these supposed "greener pastures". You'll just blog about how much superior Canada is. I've seen this so much as of late it's sickening. And THAT is the most classic of classic American attitudes I've seen in my lifetime.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) Article Mark Teahen's 3-5 game last night yielded a WPA (win percentage added) of .765, which is insane considering an entire team only needs a WPA of .500 to win a game (this just means the rest of our team sucked a lot though, most likely the pitching part). To quote Jack Moore, "Teahen came up huge in big spots for Chicago. To do so once can make you a hero. To do so three times in the same game? That’s simply amazing." Looks like this game meant a lot more than some of us thought for Teahen. So did Jones.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) The only feature? The open source thing is what drew me in. Open source means nothing. Linux has been open source for decades. So what. It's not made a dent and never will. Most open source only gets so good before it closes itself off so the person sinking their time into it can make a living. For the most part, in almost every respect, the open source movement has failed...and it continues to fail, because it collapses in upon itself. Every single open source movement starts the same, and then it splinters off into 500 directions, all taking up a combined 1% market share, but all competing with each other/undermining each other for a piece of that 1%. Until the next big thing comes along -- RedHat comes to mind...that'll make real strides! Oh, wait, never mind, Ubuntu all the way! This is just another case of open source that will fail. As much as you want it to succeed, it won't. But don't believe me...buy one, and in a year, throw it out and buy an iPad v2 or a competing Microsoft device.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) The great lakes are spectacular locations for wind farms. Ho hum.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Oh and it has an integrated webcam. This is a feature missing from the iPad I think it should have had from the onset. But it's the only feature that this thing sports that the ipad truly needs without sacrificing usability/battery.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) 1080p on a screen of that size is so utterly pointless it's hilarious. It's a technical impossibility. It's another manufacturer foregoing battery life for every feature under the sun, including features that can't even work within the technical limits of the device (such as 1080p). The only way that device has any sort of battery life (ipad has 10+ hours of actual use), is if it's not being used for ANYTHING, and every feature they packed in it is disabled to conserve power. This is what it will do: 20 hours of battery life if you do nothing with it! 1 hour of battery life if you try to watch a movie in 1080p. IE. useless. More features for devices like this does not always = good. Sometimes you have to fore go things so the device is f***ing usable for a reasonable amount of time.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) at this point it kinda seems like starting up a fast food restaurant to directly compete nationally with McDonalds and Subway. I just don't see anyone with the brand loyalty/recognition that can compete. Exactly. This device won't fail because it sucks, it'll fail because nobody will care about buying from an unknown, with unknown support, unknown methods to fix it if it breaks (and it will), and a whole lot of other reasons. I stand by my claim. This device fails, despite being able to do everything an ipad can't do.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) An open sourced tablet with a bigger screen, Android based, has two usb ports, is flash compatible, and full 1080P HD playback will fail miserably? Yes. How much would you like to bet on it? Also, you aren't playing back 1080P on that, the screen isn't big enough to play 1080P. It may try to "output" 1080p, and even that'll fail...it takes a LOT of processor to do that, and if that device tried, it'd be dry on power in 5 minutes. Once more, another device that does everything that will end up doing nothing.
  17. Ok, I read up on this device now...upon release, it'll be dead on arrival. Like the ipad, no great shakes to me...but unlike the ipad, it doesn't have Apple backing it, nor the "must have" cool factor that somehow goes along with it. I think the ipad is a total fail, too. It's missing a few key things before I'd be interested.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:43 AM) No one cares to develop for an open sourced device that isn't even out yet? Let me use your time machine this weekend. Oh, I didn't even realize it was android based...but meh, I'd still be willing to put my money where my mouth is. That device will fail, miserably. Back to this being an iPad thread now.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) The German WePad already sounds better to me than the iPad. They always do -- until you get them and there are 4 apps total, and nothing new coming out because nobody cares about developing for it. This will come down to Apple vs Google, nobody else is stepping in with the necessary support/user base/developer base to make a table worth a damn, including this one.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) That would be cool. I would buy this. This is already available on every iPhone/Android device...it's a simple 3rd party app. I use it all the time. It's called RedLaser on the iPhone -- I think it was like 99cents, well worth it. There are other similar apps, I'm sure...and some may even be free.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) his slider was flat, his fastball was 89-90 with awful location and didnt get the movement he normally does....there might not be something wrong with him going forward, but there certainly was something wrong with him last night....hopefully it was a one start thing, but the thing that was so disappointing was that his stuff was bad Wasn't just last night, that's 2 starts in a row now. That's why I'm interested in this and will be watching his next 2-3 starts.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Because I am not going to pay for an iphone, use an apple product, AND pay a monthly data charge for it. Then get an Android, or a Pre. There are many other choices that do the same things in all-in-one devices that are very affordable. Carrying around an MP3 player that does nothing but play MP3's, while having to carry around a separate phone, and a separate computer is just...so 1995. Maybe you should get yourself a walkman like Bartman and sport that ... cuz then you wouldn't have to pay for an overpriced MP3 player.
  23. I'm not sure you should consider this "Peavy bashing", so much as a call for concern. I'm concerned about Peavy and his sudden loss in velocity, to pretend I'm not won't help matters. I'll watch his next few starts, but soon the "It's only April" chants become, "It's only May". I recall some of us being concerned about Jenk's velocity a few years ago -- and were told by everyone, including Jenks, "It's only April..." Now it's April 3 years later and his velocity still hasn't returned.
  24. Andruw Jones ++ Teabag ++ Jenks -- Peavy -- I hope nothings wrong with Peavy
