QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) I think you are right about the Republican candidates. They are lousy choices. That's why I think the calm, boring Bush will ultimately prevail. He'll lose to Hillary, but not as badly as Trump would. Trump is going to ultimately scare people and will lose in an historic landslide proportions if he gets the nomination. If he somehow outlasts Bush, which he won't, I just hope his opponent is somebody besides Hillary. It sets a bad precedent "letting" somebody take her turn as President. You seem to be so sure about Hillary beating everybody, and odds are against her even winning her own primary at this point. And Trump isn't going to lose by "landslides" if he indeed gets into the general election. He's going to get a LOT of votes from a LOT of people, why you think otherwise is beyond me. You're just guessing/hoping, and none of your thoughts are grounded in logic.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) He was talking about the "JV" debate before the first Fox debate. Why would he be referring to a JV debate when he mentioned the blood comment, which came from the first Fox debate, which had even higher ratings than CNN's?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Bush is far from a sure thing right now...as much as the GOP establisment would prefer it. The two main things to come out of the last debate were "blood coming out of her whatever/wherever" and Carly Fiorina got a huge bump in a debate watched by almost nobody. Fallon's skit will have zero effect on the race, other than exemplifying how desperate her camp is to move on from e-mail servers and attempt to humanize her for about the one-hundredth time since the surprise New Hampshire primary win in the wake of Obama's Iowa caucus shocker almost eight years ago. Today I learned that 23 million viewers = almost nobody. That debate drew monster ratings. It was the largest audience in CNN's history.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Trump is a sideshow clown. He can't beat Hillary. Celebrities will love it if he's the candidate vs. Hillary. Fallon will probably put Trump on a zillion times to make sure he gets the nomination. The timing of Hillary's appearance could not have been a coincidence. Maybe if you keep repeating this you'll start to actually believe it.

T-Mobile is good in certain cities, and bad in others...T-Mobile has no Band 12 spectrum in Chicago, so their signal indoors will be almost non-existant, since band12 is what penetrates walls. Where T-Mobile is ALWAYS bad is outside of major areas...if you travel, or drive places, or tend to go to remote locations, T-Mobile isn't for you. AT&T & Verizon have the biggest networks, and Verizon edges even AT&T in coverage. Go up to door county with AT&T, for example...almost no signal, and if you do get any, it's Edge...while my Verizon phone continues working perfectly. If I could get off of Verizon and use T-Mobile, I would, but until they expand that network and gain a lot of band12 spectrum around the country, it's never going to happen.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) My iPhone 6 is so much smoother than my S3 was. That being said, 9 months in, it's far less smooth than it was. I fear that it will reach S3 territory soon. iOS9 will fix it. I've been beta testing iOS9 for a few months now, and just installed the golden master a few days ago...it's fast, and finally fixed 3rd party keyboard issues, as well as speeding up everything on newer and older devices. Oh, and iOS 9 battery life is the best I've ever seen from Apple...it's insanely efficient.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) I can't wait to go back to the iphone with 6s. The HTC One experience was miserable. All of the cool things were of such marginal use and wore out after the first two months. The combo of sprint + htc one probably made things worse, but the things phones should be able to do pretty easily were hard for my phone (had 2 of them after one broke). SO yeah, i'm now the old person who just wants the things he knows and can trust. That's how I am these days. Growing up, I was a Commodore 64/Amiga kid and a hacker at heart, which eventually gave way to earning a living on computers and moving to PC's. It wasn't until I was older and no longer had time to take computers apart, hack them, tinker with them, install incredibly unstable beta software on them (before virtual machines existed) that I moved over to Apple... I still tinker from time to time, but unlike in my younger years, it quickly grows tiring and I just wipe it and go back to stock...I don't even bother jailbreaking these days, I just don't care anymore...I just want my devices to do a few basic things and do them well.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) The iPhone 6s, to me, is definitely not worth the upgrade. They barely changed anything. Force touch is a really great addition, but other than that, it's a run of the mill spec bump. Then again, that's what most smartphones are these days, and what the S series always is.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) Next time I hear someone use the phrase "political correctness" that isn't coming from a white person complaining about how they're not allowed to say something negative about a particular group will be the first. This is not what political correctness is whatsoever. But leave it to you to turn a rather simple term into a racist one.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) If you want a movie that is an absolute waste of two hours, check out snowpiercer. I can't even explain how bad it was. This movie was so unbelievably hyped...it has a HUGE Internet "nerd" following, and it was flat out stupid. It's an old story that's been told over and over in FAR better ways.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 02:38 AM) Wouldn't female surgeons give the advice that while there's going to be more and more Baby Boomers in need of medical care, the Obamacare government takeover will make it impossible to make as good a living as a surgeon compared to 10 or 20 years ago? If Obamacare the ACA had done anything to curb the rising costs of care, perhaps...but it didn't. Edit: I hate referring to it as Obamacare...it was a derogatory nickname given to it by butt hurt neocons.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) And something tells me that there are plenty of people who have had gay friends and still constantly think it's ok to call them f*gs or have black friends and then talk about how terrible black people are when they're not around. Hence why "I have women friends!!!!" works just as well as "I have black friends!!!" or "I have gay friends!!!!" as a defense for mocking those groups. That's a bit different than what Greg is doing.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Golly, the "I have women friends how could I possibly be obnoxious to women" response. I'm sure I've never heard any version of that. Uh oh, the perfect people PC police are on patrol... Not to defend Greg here, but he's right. Is it possible to dislike some women without being accused of weak ass counter arguments like this one. If I hate one gay guy, it doesn't mean I hate all gays... If I hate one black guy, it doesn't make me a racist... I think you get the point.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) Good question. I have no proof of my statements. That's really going to suck if we die and that's that. I happen to believe we will live on. Why else would that one passage be in the Bible .... John 14:2. Why would somebody just make this up and put it in the good book? The passage is ... ""Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.…" So we will be in heaven and we will remember stuff from earth, folks. For the same reason George R.R. Martin killed Ned Stark...because he wanted too.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Do they really say things like this all the time? Really? WHen there's a tragedy, the people I know who believe in God say things like, "Anything you need ... let me know." "I'll pray for you." Stuff like that. As far as what you said, yes I do believe anybody who dies "is in a better place." Of course they are. But I wouldn't say that during a tragedy. As far as "God has a plan" well again, that's not proper to say during a tragedy. God may have a plan but we also have free will in this life. I stand by my point that God is with his people. Jesus died on the cross, which was painful physically and emotionally. Life wasn't easy for him, either. We just do the best we can with what we've got. If this was actually true, everybody that truly believed would want to die. They don't, because it's a bunch of bulls***. If God has a plan, then no, you don't have free will, since you're following his plan. This is a have your cake and eat it too argument.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Yes they absolutely do. I've heard/read it as well. I'm not sure those two things can both be true. If there's some creator that knows each and every choice we are going to make in our lives before we are even born, isn't free will just an illusion? If we make some choice that this creator couldn't or didn't forsee and plan for, then he's not as omnipotent as we thought. Yes, if there is a plan, then there is no free will, otherwise there is no real plan. It's all a bunch of nonsense.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) It's not a comfortable subject for discussion among Christians, but don't forget that along with the belief of a good supernatural being, there is also belief in a bad supernatural being. As humans we are incapable of being perfect and as such, that gives the bad supernatural being some level of control over the world. Another thing that gets neglected is the belief that no matter how good you think some experiences in life are, it is incomparable to the experience of the afterlife. I realize that isn't going to change your opinion much, but just pointing out that the belief system does have an explanation for the bad things that happen in the world. Yes, an evil being that the good supernatural being created.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) This thread has been hyping Mr Robot for a while now. Welcome to the party I usually don't start recommending shows until they're on for a while...far too many shows have a few good episodes and turn to trash. I don't read many of these sorts of threads, because most of you have incredibly terrible taste in tv/music/movies, as highlighted by a 7 page big brother thread. And yes, before you ask, my taste is impeccable.
-
While this may just be because I'm in the industry and it's about time a movie/show came around that wasn't an insult, the USA show Mr. Robot with Christian Slater is amazing. I highly recommend it...and if you ever had a question as to what computer "hacking/cracking" actually looks like, you'll see it here. Of course, the show is much more than just that, as it's also filled with drugs, sex and action.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Presidential campaigns already devolving into twitter fights That's because this sort of thing works...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) Whoever says that has an incorrect stance on the matter. Nobody ever says that. God is the rock that helps people through those tragedies. He's going nowhere except to be a steadfast rock for people. Someone has told you a death of a kid is God's plan? When? Where? The religious say things like this all the time. "God works in mysterious ways." "God has a plan." "They're in a better place." There are many more examples of this nonsense, but those are the easiest ones to remember off the top of my head. ----- Here is my problem with "god". You forget one thing when claiming god is the rock that helps people through these tragedies...he's also the cause of them. IF this all powerful being exists, it means he/she/it is CHOOSING to allow the suffering of those called "his children". People all over the world, throughout time, from wars to genocide, from mass famine to murder, from disease to despair...children too young to have lived dying of cancer or starvation, and suffering throughout the short time they were here... I could go on... But if *this* god exists, he's a f***ing asshole. Anyone that has ever seen one of these children, whose entire life is that of suffering and death, knowing they're not going to live long enough to feel the euphoria of a first kiss, a first date, or enjoying that perfect glass of wine, or anything else we love about our lives...well, that alone should tell you what your god actually thinks of you. ----- And don't feel sorry for me that I "feel this way", either...because I'll simply remind you that Jesus felt this way, too. Using a variation of his words, "God has forsaken me..."

Jared Fogle/Subway scandal...presumption of guilt?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Jimmy John's is quality too. Their chips are excellent. I find Jimmy John's boring...there is really nothing unique about their sandwiches at all. You can go to ANY grocery store and make a Jimmy John's sub. Potbelly, Snarf's, places like that...you can't just replicate their food at home without really trying. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) the "lower end" fast-food restaurants have all been declining for several years now as people look to allegedly healthier, fresher and a little more expensive options e.g. Chipotle. The exception IIRC is Taco Bell thanks to their all-in attitude towards the most bizarre 'food' products ever produced like turning Doritos into taco shells. I think people are putting more into this than there is...McDonalds is declining because of a number of factors, but the biggest factor (which nobody talks about) is there is no where left for them to grow. And Wall Street hates it when companies like Apple/McDonalds cease "growing"...but it's hard to grow when you're already everywhere. Also, while "declining" could be an accurate term, it's also a bit of a misnomer if you look at the actual numbers. McDonalds just made 1.2 billion dollars in profit last quarter, after making "just" 900 million profit the quarter before that. Let's keep in mind this is a company that made 4.75 BILLION in profit last year ... again, Billion with a B, so it's not like they're in trouble like these analysts want you to believe. Chipotle is kind of in the middle of a boom period, but that'll wear thin as time marches on, as it always does. Remember a few years ago when Krispee Kreme entered that same boom period, and for a span of about 8 years they were going to put Dunkin' Donuts out of business while they were trading at insane prices on wall street? We all know how that worked out. Chiplote is a decent restaurant and an even better business, but it's not nearly as scalable as McDonalds because of how they choose to source their food...the more they expand, the more people will find corners are being cut. They'll have to expand their "farming" business to compensate with increased deliveries to more and more locations...and when things get really big...they often get out of control...as they will with Chipotle. They're a Wall Street darling because it's easy to grow right now. An unconfirmed number puts them at 1800 locations -- while McDonalds has almost 40,000. They're in the same industry, but they're still an apples to oranges comparison. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) So let me get this straight, you live a faithful and selfless life so that when you die you can be rewarded? Isn't that also selfish? I've found that most of the time, the most religious amongst us are also the most intolerant. More often than not, they pick and choose the pieces of their religion they happen to agree with and completely ignore the rest of the rules all the while calling themselves devoted.
