  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 07:03 AM) The dumbest thing on the internet these days is people saying one cause is more important than the other. "I can't believe people are mourning a lion but don't care about the men killed in Chattanooga!" You're allowed to care about more than one cause and anyone who says something like the above is bigger idiot than anyone. Depends on how you choose to look at it. For the most part, nobody that said something like this implied you cannot care are multiple things at once, they're merely pointing out that most of the people jumping on that bandwagon didn't actually care...and based on my Facebook feed, I'd agree. When a person actually cares about something, they don't only do so while it's the popular thing to do, but modern social media has created an entire population of people that "care" about things for minutes at a time, and only while it gets them a little attention. The opportunistically offended are always the loudest, and the quickest to move on to the next subject they don't actually care about.
  2. At this point in American politics, I seriously hope Trump wins, he's exactly what this country deserves. Hillary/Jeb is just more of the same, so nothing will change and we will slowly sink deeper and deeper, the rich will continue getting richer, the poor poorer. At least with Trump it'll be like jumping off a cliff.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) They claim it costs way more to execute someone than it does to imprison them for life. Hopefully he just gets a life sentence and an another inmate pulls a Chris Scarver on him. The only way this can be true is due to bureaucracy, otherwise it simply makes no sense. You can buy a 10 gauge shotgun for a few hundred dollars, and a single shell from that would do the trick, and then some. In the world I run, I'd make it much more than that, though. I don't like the idea of letting them off easily, but I also don't like the idea of letting them live. I'd have that 10 gauge hooked up to a machine/computer and have both a video/audio countdown letting the prisoner know exactly when it was going to fire, only when it hits 0, nothing would happen. Then the countdown would reset/repeat and the same thing would happen over and over again until randomly generated time expires and it actually fired. I'd make scum like this live their last moments over and over again until it finally happened on a random number other than 0. I lack sympathy for those like this...I don't care about them, I don't care if they suffer, I just don't care. He ruined countless lives, for nothing.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Fixed, come on! I'm not a fan of GoT...I much prefer the White Frost from the Witcher.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Crime is actually down in New York year-over-year. I'm not really trying to argue whether or not De Blasio's policies are good or bad, but he still absolutely supports "broken windows," his police commissioner is clear about it and he gets criticized from the left for it. That's skews what I consider more important crimes...violent crime and murder are both up in New York, while overall crime is down. I don't care about a lot of what our government considers "crime", but I sure as hell care about the serious stuff like murder and violence.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Wait what? Someone thought our sun was going to die in TWENTY years? LOL. The White Frost is coming...
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) They are edit: and what do cknolls and that writer want to see happen? Continue overcrowding our jails with vermin the mentally ill? Given that this behavior hasn't been decriminalized yet, how is it any sort of indictment on "liberal policies"? Did no mentally ill homeless people urinate on the street or bump into people for the 20 years before De Blasio became mayor? I think deblasio is as much of a jackass as rham, they both suck, they're both terrible leaders, and both of them are making everything in their cities worse than it already is. They say one thing and do another...so I really don't buy that these policies are actually in place...they may say they are, but they're not, which is why crime is rising. It's like the years of endless Chicago gun violence...they repeatedly blame the fact that people can buy guns elsewhere...which is right...so WHY f***ING BOTHER WITH YOUR POWERLESS GUN LAWS in the first place? They pretend their gun violence policies work in Chicago, but they clearly don't. People getting caught with illegal guns are right back on the street in Chicago...but according the Rham, they're doing all they can. The only thing that prevents gun violence in Chicago is cold weather...which is why they're really quick to point out how well their new programs are working during the months of december-february, but then go silent as soon as it gets warm again.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) My house is 1883 and it flows fine. I am thinking maybe the router is behind copper pipes or something. Your house was most likely remodeled since its that old, you probably have drywall.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) I swear, you'd think my house was coated with lead-paint. My Chromecast about 40 feet away from the router can't get a signal. Looks like I am going to have to hook up our booster again and take slower speeds to get full coverage in the house. Ugh. I hate to bottleneck this thing, but it seems I have no choice. My next investment may be in a Powerline Adapter for my PS4. They run about $40 on Amazon. Do you live in an older house? Some of those older houses were built with mesh net walls that were plastered, these interfere with wireless signals. The only thing I can think of is his house is full of metal/pipes/mesh netting and it's interfering with his signal. Either that, of he's using a router that just isn't very powerful.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) The best part about this article, which is pretty dumb even by NY post standards, is that de blasio actually supports broken windows policing. Apparently he's not or they would still be doing it.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) All this does is allow the people who profit from racism on both sides to continue doing so, because people like this create more racism then they solve. It's just my opinion, but people that feel "white guilt", are probably guilty of something. I grew up around REAL racism, not this half-assed sugar coated bulls*** half of you seem to think is racism. Fortunately, despite being surrounded by racism in Bridgeport, I was wise enough/smart enough to realize that making absurd generalizations about people because of their skin color wouldn't make me 1) smarter than them, 2) better than them or 3) get a job over them when I entered the real world. There is real racism in this world, and the more people water it down with this sort of bulls*** the longer it will take to get rid of it. You don't "cure" racism by guilt tripping other races, all that does is create MORE animosity. If a person of [insert ANY color] was to tell me I'm only where I am because I'm white, you're damn right I'd get offended. I grew up around losers...and VERY few of us escaped becoming a loser. I could have been just like the rest of them, kicking back at "house parties" in Bridgeport/Cville and become exactly like them. Today, MOST of them are 1) dead, 2) incarcerated, 3) on welfare, 4) addicted to hard drugs...and if I had chosen to stay around them, I'd be exactly like them. I knew when to cut ties and get the f*** out...and that's why I am where I am today, not because I'm white.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) If you pause and recognize such things...a valid question is the one Alpha just asked, what next? You can look at that at both a personal level and a societal one. The simple one at a societal level I can keep using is the drug punishment one. African Americans and Whites in surveys say they use marijuana at similar rates, yet African Americans are arrested at rates 3-4 times as much as white people for the exact same crime. That's why I highlighted the case above - because white people are able to get away with a crime that black people are regularly jailed for. Recognizing personal behavior, whether in business or life, is another one. I had a friend/colleague who received negative comments from his employer because his teeth were too bad - he grew up in Kenya and had never had braces. I'm sure the employer never felt he was being "racist" at the time, he was just providing advice from the experience he has about people with bad teeth, but that's exactly what it was and my colleague recognized it immediately. Comment because a person hadn't bothered to think about different backgrounds and his own privilege turned that into a hostile work environment. How do you think that person would act if another person with those teeth came into that office for an interview? Clearly would count it as a negative regardless of actual qualifications. Do we ask what other judgments we make based on personal appearances? Or based on the sound of people's names? (that's a classic experiment in resumes btw, giving people similarly qualified resumes except with names common to different ethnic groups). That's because he wasn't being racist, he was pointing out that he had bad teeth. This is what I mean by people seeing "racism" where it simply doesn't exist. Jesus, talk about a f***ing stretch.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) You have to do a cross country test (1800 miles+), and NOT to an AT&T destination. It'll still be insanely fast, but it'll show you what you're actually getting vs what AT&T is giving themselves.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Yep. I'm not even on that chart with 105 Mbps I had this speed via Comcast and actually dropped it down to 50 to save some money...there is just nothing I do that uses 105, let alone 50. Maybe in the future, but until it becomes necessary I'm not paying for it unless it comes with some bulls*** package they sell me.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) DGAF about anon. These acronyms have to stop, at this point there are just too many, and they're getting more and more ridiculous and long. And yes, I know what it means.
  16. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 6, 2015 -> 11:43 PM) So the internet in our house kind of sucks. We also have to use a booster because the router is in the corner of the basement. Apparently out router is rated at G300. Not even N-technology. So I decided to throw money at the situation. I just bought a TP-Link AC1750 Archer C7 router, and then 3 16dBi antennas to replace the stock antennas. Anyone have any thoughts, worries, experiences with what I'm doing? It seems the main problem in our house is range. I've read that using a booster can cut your speed in half, so I'm hoping that those high powered antennas will help. My only worry is that I THINK the 3 external antennas on the router are on the 5 Ghz band, which can't even be used on a lot of devices in our house. The 2.4 Ghz band antennas are internal. HOWEVER, the antennas I bought are rated for 2.4 Ghz, so I'm wondering if the 5 Ghz signal from my router is connected to the antenna, thus swapping antennas would change the band, or does the 5 Ghz signal come from inside the device and changing the antenna won't change the frequency? I'm guessing it's the later, but the 3 antennas were only $12 anyway, so I'll just keep them anyway for future devices I have that can actually utilize the 5 Ghz band. There are a few things you can do to improve signal quality in your home. 1) Placement of the router itself. If at all possible, a central location where all rooms are of equal distance from the router is optimal. Keep the router away from metal (if you know a wall is full of water pipes, move it away from that wall a bit.) 2) Name both the 5ghz and 2ghz SSID's the exact same name. IE: Don't name one Chiliheads 2ghz, and the other Chiliheads 5ghz. Devices that can connect to the faster 5ghz band will do so, but if that signal is unable to penetrate the walls or degrades, it will drop down to the 2ghz band of the same name, automatically. 3) For the 2ghz band, the channel you broadcast the signal is important, as some of the frequencies are saturated. For 2ghz broadcast, channels 1, 6 and 11 are the only channels that don't overlap, so they're usually optimal, however, I'd avoid channel 6 since it's the default and most people use it...so go with 1 or 11. 4) For the 5ghz band keep in mind with the higher frequency, while faster, it does not penetrate walls well. Depending on your building, you will have to experiment to find the proper (most unused channel) in your area.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 01:56 AM) No offense, but some people think two members of the same sex having sex is immoral as well. The moral thing shouldn't matter. I'm in favor of gay marriage and polygamy. Why not? The tax thing is weak argument IMO. If a guy wants to have 4 wives, why not if the wives agree? If a woman wants 6 husbands, why not if the dudes agree? It's clear you didn't understand my post.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) I never thought of it, but that is also an interesting topic. Why shouldn't polygamy be legal? It's a fair question. I think it probably should be legal. If consenting males and females are OK with that arrangement, why should the government dictate against it? Because marriages are rewarded by the tax code as an incentive for building a stable family as to raise children who will grow up in an environment that makes them productive which fosters the idea they will do the same. Whether that actually happens is another question. Not to mention this countries aversion to sex unless in commercials and movies, and the high ground morals everyone in positions of power pretend to have, which of course explains our disproportionately high divorce rate... I think I covered everything but I'm on my phone right now.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) I'm fine with some of that, too. Why do you want to continue to honor racist slave owning traitors to the county May as well burn the f***ing constitution in that case.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) I read somewhere this morning that you can still but nazi stuff on amazon but not anything with a confederate flag. Not a surprise. Gotta jump on that bandwagon while you can. It was eBay, and true. Also of note, there ARE legit collectors of WW2 and Civil War memorabilia, from the allies and enemies/the north and the south that can no longer use these services for what was legitimate business. Just more collateral damage due to obvious overstep.
  21. ...and now Google has followed suit. Baby thrown out with the bath water.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) It's more of eliminating the negative symbol of past oppression than it is eliminating Southern history. It may have started that way but it turned a darker corner today when Apple banned video games of the civil war era that contain confederate flags. This was the kind of overreaction I feared would come of this mob mentality that's obviously in full effect. As I've stated in previous posts, removing them from state buildings was one thing (even though I'd prefer removing the politicians that have kept them there route), but we've now ventured into the absurd. They're now treading into dangerous territory, despite the fact it's their store to do with as they please.
  23. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) That's easier said than done when the Voting Rights Act was gutted by SCOTUS. While that's true, it just happened a few years ago...and there have been MANY national, state and local elections prior to that occurring. If the citizens really wanted those flags removed (as most suddenly claim), they'd have removed those idiots from office that kept them there all these years, yet they continued to elect them and will continue to elect them both before and after the voting rights act.
  24. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) People are really taking issue with a tragic event being the catalyst for positive change? The flag is offensive to a large number of Americans. It represents oppression, terrorism and treason. The removal of that symbol is an acknowledgment and a positive step forward in race relations. That's not really what's happening. People are taking issue with the fact it's become a distraction and moved into absurd "overly politically correct" territory. Now we have companies like Apple (amongst others) removing all apps from the app store that contain a confederate flag. This moves the "confederate flag removal" subject into the area of the absurd, and takes it from a serious subject to a trivial one. What if I made a civil war game? How is that not relevant to the subject matter? What if I wrote a book about the confederacy, should we ban it because the book cover is a confederate flag? I don't think anyone here has an issue with removing that flag/symbol from actual state buildings/flag designs. I just have some issues with how it's being done, and in reaction to why. If you really want it removed from official buildings, stop electing racists that 1) vote to put it there, and 2) vote to keep it there, and the flag situation would quickly resolve itself. As it stands now, even if it's removed, it's nothing more than an empty victory since the people that actually want it there are still in elected positions of power. It's an out of sight/out of mind thing, despite the fact that the root of the issue remains in place. I'm just tired of the frivolous distractions. Every heinous act is followed by instant outrage and overreaction to a new icon/symbol/flag. In a country steeped in troubled history, you will never run out of offensive "flags" to remove, be it from sports team names/logos, to the names of streets, lakes, or otherwise. To me, it all just rings hallow, but I'm not saying you or anyone else here has to feel the same.
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) Greg, I say this sincerely as possible. For someone who has lived in a college town for as long as you have, you are drastically out of touch with my generation. He may not be speaking about your generation. Also, I really dislike lumping people into a "generation". You may not be exactly like the rest of your generation. Not everyone from the Millennial generation feels that winning doesn't matter, but a lot of the younger ones DO feel this way and it's not something I witnessed growing up in Gen X. These same people also tend to be overly politically correct, because they're afraid to offend anyone, even if it's just in a joking manner (Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld spoke about this, and I agree with them). All that said, like all previous generations before them, they're trying to do things their way, and they're going to be fine in the end...and while I truly feel that way, that doesn't mean I can't speak up when one of them annoys me.
