QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 07:33 AM) Winning Ugly is back! Also: What did the Sox do in 1917? Won.

If it's not Ozzie and KW's fault, it's Anderson versus Erstad and Pods, and once again that becomes Ozzie's fault. If it's none of the above, it's Walkers fault. If it's not Walkers fault, it'll be Razor Shines fault. Blah blah blah... If you move Iguchi down in the order, and he cannot hit, it's Iguchi's fault, it's not Walker, it's not Ozzie, it's not KW. If you can hit #2, you should be able to hit #7, #8 and #9, too...these are major league ballplayers, not t-ballers. No excuses should be necessary. The CONSTANT whining on this board is getting really old. If it's not one thing it's another thing. You know what I just realized...this board (almost the ENTIRE thing) is represented by Randy Quaid in Major League 2. You're not happy unless your b****ing about how much this team sucks, and if the team happens to do well, you'll just say, "it won't matter...they're just gonna blow it in the playoffs anyway." The characters name in ML2 was Jonny. All of you b****ing in this thread = Jonny.

Opening Day: White Sox vs. Indians, 4/2/07 (L)

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) He was just missing his spots during at bats and they were tagging it. He even threw some nice pitches as well, but they got to his mistakes, and there were alot of them. im sure he can get back to form. It's one game, put it in your pocket and move on...that simple. Not the end of the world...Count will be fine...just had bad location today and a few of those hits they got were WAY reaching...5000 feet outside pokes...rediclous...he pitched bad, but also had a lot of bad luck there. -

Anderson would have K'd on that... Just wanted to make sure that gets out there, too. -

Some of this just looks lucky...they were flailing the bat way outside and poking lucky hits...sometimes that happens. Calling the season because of it though?! Some of you are sad. -

Opening day! Go Sox! I'm excited like a little kid...baseball is back! Now if we could only get this weather under control...back into the 30's later this week?! WTF. -
QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...s&fext=.jsp I hate to say I predicted it, but I DID! ;-) I predicted more than half of their staff would run into similar issues. They've never pitched that much in their collective lives. Welcome to our 2006 world, boys.

Most players are working on things they aren't quite good at in spring training, which is why you can sometimes see skewed stats, such as these. I hope this is the case, and they weren't actually trying to pitch all out, which I doubt. I watched a few games where fastball after fastball was thrown, or change after change after change was thrown, showing me they were practicing certain pitches over and over, moreso than trying to confuse or mess with the batters timing. We shall soon find out.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) OK, then look at the REGULAR SEASON stats I just posted for last year for those two. Once Logan shook off the enormous jump from A- to MLB, he did very well. Sisco on the other hand was downright awful. So again, what reason is there to think Sisco is ready and Logan isn't? Because Sisco is like 6'10" and can kick Ozzie's ass, while Logan can't?!
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:38 AM) They did exactly that last year, and he kicked butt - 3.37 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 57:12 K:BB... and then put up a ZERO ERA and a 0.73 WHIP in 9 ST appearances. Compare that to Sisco's miserable season in 2006 AND miserable ST this year, and tell me again how Logan is the one not ready yet. ...and spring training statistics mean a whole lot of nothing. And the Cubs fans I know, none of them are EVER optimistic...they know the seasons over before it begins, but none of them stop having fun, either. It could be worse. It could be winter again.
-
Sometimes it's fun to read the things you people post. Baseball is back. Summer is coming. Oh, and the sky ISN'T falling. You sound like a bunch of Cubs fans I know. And yes, I said it. Too bad you won't enjoy the season...but hell, that simply means more open seats for me...because I'll be enjoying every second of it.

Which pitchers get the final two bullpen spots?
Y2HH replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I say Aardsma and Logan, too, both are pure releif pitchers. Sisco could someday be a starter if stretched out properly and his location is fixed...so I'd also let him get more seasoning in the minors. Haegar needs to be a starter -- and get real work in as a starter in AAA, not in the pen in the majors. -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) Did you guys really expect better? I think we're right where we should be. Sorry, but no ones jumping out of their chair at the rotation anymore after what they did last season. Pretty much. Then again, these rankings mean as much as...well, they mean absolutly nothing. Need to play some games, first...before anyone can be ranked anywhere. One injury here, one break out star there...and the entire landscape can change. Over the years I've come to the conclusion that most of these experts are nothing more than other people with opinions...often wrong, dumb or otherwise, and it doesn't matter...because they're treated like weathermen -- wrong or right doesn't matter, they still get paid...and we still read what they have to say.
-
I used to love, and I mean absolutly love wresting. That was originally during the 80's, as a young lad, and then my love for wrestling was resurrected in the late 90's with the advent of the nWo and the Rock/Austin era of the WWF. In comparison, wrestling flat out sucks now, at least IMO. The wrestlers barely believe the crap they are saying, it's hardly funny other than a chuckle here and there moment from time to time and the skits just arent what they used to be. The Rock's weekly skits toward the end of the 90's/early 00's made me LAUGH. Look at the skits the nWo used to do on the 4 Horsemen...those made me cry laughing. The crap they try to do now is kinda like...wow...did they really just do that? One of the few people who can still make me laugh is McMahon himself, and he's not even a roster wrestler. They simply have no great ideas to run with in comparison to just 5 or 10 years ago. The writing team the WWE and TNA uses aren't very good...or what they need to do is what Bischoff did to originally kick the war into high gear and travel around and get some ideas for the "next big thing", and I'm not talking Brock Lesnar here. As it stands, I'd take late 90's/early 00's over what we currently have...it'd actually make me care again.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) it's ridiculous to trade Brian. He's still the same 5-tool player that drafted, IMO, and I think he has a long career ahead of him with the Sox. It just didn't get started the way everyone, especially Brian, would have liked. I heard Boarchard was a 5 tool player too. Turns out he was just a tool x 5.
-
Would you make this trade with the Phillies ?
Y2HH replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also a no. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) Actually, Ken Williams traded three centerfielders to make way for Brian- Jeremy Reed, Chris Young, and Aaron Rowand. And as for comparing Anderson's situation to that of Crede and Garland, and even Ventura, you just cannot. When those players were coming up we had not won a world series. We did not have a so-called "window" in which to repeat. There is some pressure (despite what Kenny will admit, and what trades he has made) to win this year as three key players may be walking in Iguchi, Dye, and Mark. Simply because Brian may have to take a step down on the totem pole for the time being does not mean that Kenny and Ozzie no longer envision him as our starting CF of the future. It may simply mean that they don't believe this team can afford to suffer from his growing pains in such a critical year for the franchise. That being said, if the right player or deal came along, I think most of us would agree that Kenny would not hesitate to move Brian today. I disagree however, with those that claim that Brian being left off the 25-man roster would seal his fate as gone. Well said. I think this topic has been gone over enough now...so let's wait and see what happens. I think all sides of the BA discussion/argument have been made, made again, and then re-made for good measure. Will he or won't he? We'll know soon enough.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) You don't like it because they serve beer in cans? That's the best way to enjoy a beer before a Sox game. Especially if it comes in a king can! Coming from a person named CanOfCorn, you are merely being biased in favor of cans. Oh, I did not know that...I've been calling it Puffers for so long it's not easy to call it something else. Puff...er, Mitchells is on my preferred list because I can walk home from there in a mere 2 minutes time. Ok, ok...3 minutes. We should all have a SoxTalk gathering there someday...then the Brian Anderson lovers can pummel me for hating him while blindly loving Pods.
-
Jimbo's is "kinda sorta" expensive. I personally prefer Puffers, as it's just around the block from my house...and I know one of the bartenders at Jimbo's, if she still works there, that is. I think it's that I don't like that they serve cans of beer. :/ But at least when I go and shes there, I hardly pay much.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) WIN SHARES: Last year Erstad had 0, the two previous years 15 and 15. Podsednik had 9 last year, 12 and 15 the previous years. Last year Brian Anderson was 5. All from The Hardball Times. Glad someone finally posted that... I don't care what Anderson's OPS, AVG, HR, SB, or whatever the hell other stats you can give me are in comparison to Erstad, there is something MORE to this story than any of you are willing to admit. By now, it should be crystal CLEAR that BA has fallen out of favor with this *entire* organization. Perhaps through something he said or did behind the scenes, his attitude in general, but whatever it was/is, the only thing that's going to get him past it is to play as if he actually was the next Andruw Jones. I stand by the Herb Brooks quote, "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm lookin' for the right ones." Pretty obvious that this organization doesn't think BA is the right player, even if he is the best we've got.

Sox v Mariners, at TEP, 3:05pm, 3/22/07
Y2HH replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2007 Season in Review
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) I think he's probably the better option too, although I can't say he's really grown on me. His defense is very good but I still don't know about that swing of his. And the tattoos are a turn-off. His personality kind of rubs me the wrong way...when he first burst onto the scene, some of the things I heard him say in the media were rediculous -- I felt he'd make a better pro-wrester than a baseball player -- especially considering he accomplished a truckload of nothing at the time.
