  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) These cops are way too trigger happy. Nobody will ever convince me they can't use better judgment and taze people in some of these situations rather than shoot them. Glad this hyper cop got his ass fired and hope more cops get kicked to the curb for over zealousness. greg775 Translator: Generalization, grumble, mumble, more generalizations, rabble rabble. Grrrrr. I'm angry.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/mckinney-police-offi...-190534788.html Bishkin said Casebolt had worked one suicide and one attempted suicide in the hour prior to being dispatched to the pool party that reportedly involved teens fighting. “The nature of these two suicide calls took an emotional toll on Eric Casebolt,” Bishkin said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference. Now I know from the rhetoric flying around here on these situations that most law enforcement personnel are going to say that's part of the job, you know it going in and to use it as an excuse after the fact is convenient...if anything, I would think dealing with that kind of a (suicide) situation would make more MORE likely not to want to use deadly force and work out things by talking more amicably, but that's just me. Highlighted. Different people react differently under different pressures and different situations.

    The Wire

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 12:15 AM) I re-watching The Wire and wanted to see if there are any other people on here who are familar with the show. In my opinion is one of the greatest television shows off all time, in every aspect from the performances to the cinematography and especially the writing, (Showrunner David Simon wrote every epsiode). I love how each season dives into a different aspect of the 21st century American city (especially the inner cities) whether it's the war on drugs in post 9/11 America, the school system, the political machine or the media. I'm about to finish up season 1 today, and its even better on subsequent viewings. If you’re unfamiliar with The Wire, you need to check it out. "The King Stay The King." It's a great show -- on and off. The last season stretched reality a bit and had a rushed ending, but it was -- overall -- a really amazing police drama. Whenever McNulty checked out and made infrequent appearances throughout the show, I felt the show went from an amazing show to a boring, clumsy, plodding nightmare where I was simply wading through garbage until McNulty got interested again, and the second it happened, bam, the show was good again. Best characters in that show were Stringer, McNulty and Omar.
  4. I live in Chicago, this movie isn't polarizing anything...nobody cares except those that want some free publicity for or against the film.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Sushi is dangerous to pregnant women just because its dangerous to all humans. If you go to a nice place and get your usual items there isnt any danger. Her OB/Gyn probably cautions her against all undercooked foods, aka all food, because its possible there is bacteria in it. Your wife and unborn child is MUCH more likely to get sick eating Chicken than raw fish served at your sushi bar. Not only that but "sushi" also includes cooked and vegetarian dishes as well. I believe it's also the mercury content, but that said, while my wife was pregnant, her doctor told her it's fine to eat sushi in moderation, just as it was fine to have a glass of wine in moderation. The myth is that you can't have these things at all during pregnancy. It's simply untrue. This is more about medical professionals becoming afraid of their own shadows, than it is about facts. As you said, it's always dangerous to eat raw or undercooked food, not only while pregnant. The risks remain the same.
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:01 PM) It absolutely is for a lot of people, whether it's technically used correctly or not, the vast, VAST majority of people just call them viruses, and the "Macs don't get viruses" mantra is pretty well known in pop culture. Because people are spreading misinformation doesn't make it true. I correct them when I hear this, and you should, too. The vast majority of people believe a lot of nonsense. Don't be a lemming.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Unfortunately, it is for a lot of people. I know I've heard a lot of people say Macs don't get viruses. Here is a fair write up on Mac's and viruses (and the myth they cannot get viruses): http://www.thesafemac.com/there-are-no-mac-viruses/
  8. I didn't mean to type malware there, I meant to type spyware and already corrected it.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Those dumb people are obviously meaning to say that their devices are impervious to security threats, that they are free from worry about any malicious intrusions. Virus is just a catch-all word. We've all heard those people preach before. No, "virus" is NOT a catch all word when it comes to computers. It's a specific word used to describe a specific type of malicious computer program. The catchall term you are looking for is malware.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) http://www.computerworld.com/article/25974...-admits-it.html Anything is possible, but with UNIX, it's more unlikely. The reason Windows got viruses was because pretty much every user had escalated root privileges over the system, not to mention Windows was designed to be very easy in that you could auto-run code of certain types. This made it easy for malicious programs to run themselves AND perform any tasks they wanted. With OSX, Linux, ChromeOS, etc., even as an "admin", you need to escalate privileges to root for certain tasks. The word virus, when it comes to computers is misused quite often. A virus isn't spyware, it's not a trojan, etc...if it requires user intervention, it's not a virus. A virus is code that can run itself, WITHOUT asking the user for permission to do so.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) APPLES DONT GET VIRUSES - 90% of people I know that own one. ...and that's NOT a virus.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Ah, I thought you were joking and also making an observation No, I think you have a good idea there but it sounds like kind of a pain in comparison to your wife's method.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) New exploit leaves most Macs vulnerable to permanent backdooring I haven't extensively researched this but it looks like it requires local escalated privlidged access/root...and if a person has local root access, I'd say they can do quite a bit more damage than this. Note their little update at the end of the article: Headline updated to remove the word "remote" since the hack involves use of a local exploit.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) This past weekend we made bacon wrapped jalepeno poppers on the grill, they were delicious. Although next time I think I am gonna do the poppers a different way, My wife cut them in half and put the cheese inside and wrapped them. I think I am gonna cut the top off the jalepeno and then wrap it. Scientifically, doing it the way you are trying to do it is stupid.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) thats because you gave her food poisoning once. This is actually a common misconception of correlation not equaling causation. People will often blame the last thing they ate they didn't really care for, OR that looked dubious when they come down with food poisoning. In reality, depending on the specific kind of food poisoning you have (if you even know what bug it is), it could be anything you ate from 1 hour to 7 DAYS ago, and if you include Hepatitis A in that, it could be anything you ate in the last 28 days. Odds are, whatever a person thinks gave them food poisoning, it probably didn't.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) I swear to god. Tonight as usual I grilled 11 perfect BBQ chicken thighs and my wife gets the twelve one that has a pink tint on the bone for the one she picked. Therefore I don't know how to grill chicken very well. Lol I can't win. That was likely pigment leakage from the marrow, and completely safe. Usually, the only time you need to worry about "pink" when it comes to poultry is when it's NOT next to bone. So show her science to defeat her unsubstantiated claim you don't know how to grill chicken! The Science: The USDA explains that even fully cooked poultry can sometimes show a pinkish tinge in the meat and juices. Pigment in the bone marrow can color the surrounding tissue and make the bones themselves look very dark. Hemoglobin in the muscles can likewise react with air during cooking to give the meat a pinkish color even after cooking.
  18. In a nutshell, this was me last year: ...annnnnnnnnnnd, this is me now:
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) Beckham making contact against Chapman....never saw that coming. Kudos to Robertson for keeping it at a tie. We need to fix the catching situation. THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. This.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2015 -> 08:17 AM) To be fair..."man arrested by Baltimore PD doesn't have nice things to say about Baltimore PD"...not exactly unsurprising right?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) I didn't want this to turn into an "I hate this team" thread. I just wanted to break whatever the other thread did! Sigh. I don't think anyone "hates" the team...I know I don't. It's just disappointed to an extreme degree. I mean, HOW can this team be THIS bad? There is just no way this should be happening with all those additions/subtractions made in the off season. They look WORSE than they were last year...and that's just insanity.
  22. I tried to turn over a new leaf and be positive about this team...but they really don't want me to be positive. This is the most disappointed I've been in the Sox ... ever. I thought coming into this season we'd compete, not necessarily win the division, but compete. This isn't even that. I'm at a loss for words.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 07:23 PM) pls reread the article. and get off the point of salary. the point and counter point is, the house is screwed up with a couple bad cops, for the most part, 98% are cleaned and do their job. they go unrecognized and unappreciated. yeah those PO deserved a raise, something like after 10 yrs of services. but the other point is clean the mess that those idiots that gives the law enforcement people, they got a bad name by association. it is plain and simple. with that, i am thru. until something new comes out. peace The way you worded you last post about salary made it sound like you were saying cops are already overpaid, I mean, after all they all drive around in Mercedes...I was, again, pointing out that's not the case.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) out of all that, i only see a couple of things that i have a problem. the biggest is, so and this goes to an earlier discussion of salary for the cops. A superintendent is akin to a CEO. Most of the cops don't make near what a superintendent makes...so the comparison just isn't there.
