Oh, breaking news, I was just promoted to Charlotte AAA on soxtalk! QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) You aren't kidding.
-
You aren't kidding. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Jon seems to be all over the place today so far.

Seriously...I hear Hawk talk about how huge his KZone is all the time, but...that's not working this year...perhaps people in the AL figured that out and you have his huge numbers drop of this season...he swings at anything remotely near the plate, high low in or out, doesn't matter... His numbers would rise a bit if he'd be more patient... QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Why would anybody throw a pitch anywhere near the strike zone to Juan Uribe?
-
Bottom line is running a promotion like this is sad...and a slap in the face to true Sox fans. The Sun Times should be ashamed, it's doing nothing but feeding the Tribune Cub Hype machine with this.
-
No, Greg Maddux. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) Jenks???
-
Also a good way to look at it, but last night Jenks was the right choice...moving from a soft tossing lefty to a hard throwing righty would have blown the Twins away, we almost let them back into that game trying to go around Jenks. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) I think Ozzie is trying to bring him along and keep his head in the game. Jenks' physical talents are immense, but his head hasn't always been screwed on right. Ozzie is doing the right thing in picking a choosing the spots and last night with the pressure of really needing the win, wasn't it.

That's Chicago popular opinion for ya...give away much coveted seats to some yuppies who won't appreciate them. Makes me want to cry, just a little... QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) This is weak. There are plenty of Sox fans who can't afford to get to a game or a suite who could use these tickets. To give them to a Cub fan is assanine.

I agree, I think Jenks is underused... QUOTE(joshe800 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) Is it just me, or does anyone else miss seeing Bobby Jenks in games? I know certain situations call for lefties, etc. But I really think that Jenks is a superstar closer in the making and i'd like to see us use him and make fools of opposing hitters. Especially in a situation like last night where we could have saved Hermanson and his back and locked down a 6-1 victory. Maybe it's just me, but everytime Jenks comes in, I get excited to see him mow down opposing hitters and watch them head back to the dugout shaking their heads.

Totally... ...lame. QUOTE(shakes @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) I'm not a fan of this promotion. I would rather they went to Sox fans. Cubs fans, tell us in 500 words or fewer why you want to attend a Sox game, and we'll pick two winners. Each will get a pair of tickets to sit in the Sun-Times' luxury suite for the Sept. 7 game against the Royals. http://www.suntimes.com/includes/sports/cs...econtest21.html

And speaking of what you said, there is so much of that out there, the very VERY bad coaching and improper fundamentals.

Never met many catchers who could bunt. I was a 2B (given my small size, 5'7" 147 pounds), and ultra fast. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) No. What helped me was a very quick release which made up for less than spectacular arm strength. I also had a great coach for 4 seasons playing traveling ball who knew the mental side and the nuances of the game better than anybody. Being ready and knowing in your mind what you will do before the situation presented itself was key. I remember tryouts for a different traveling team and the coaches wanted to see our throws to second. I was up on my toes, instead of back low, so I could be ready for the throw to second. Another kid yelled, hey, he's cheating, he's almost standing. One of the other coaches came over and told me to get low. I looked at him and said, this is how a catcher is suppose to be ready when a runner is on first or second. The guy had no clue. I almost walked off that team a few times that season. The worse was when he asked me to switch hit lefty with a guy on third. I was confused but went along with it. On the next pitch he had the runner try and steal home. Of course the kid was out by 20 feet. I paused and then went down the third base line and screamed Idiot. You want the batter to conceal the runner. I'm the best bunter on the team, at least suicide steal in that situation, and if you really want to try and steal home, look up delayed steal in the dictionary. I sat the next two games
-
Touche back at ya. Of course, this isn't at the major league level, but the second I get on base, I can tell whether it will be easy to steal on a pitcher or not. What was your pop time to 2nd, ever get it measured? QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) You would have stolen on the pitcher

How many wins will the White Sox have this season
Y2HH replied to spiderman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
95 should be attainable, easily...if we revert back to original form. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:54 AM) White Sox are now 76-47, Cleveland now has to go 25-10 and Minnesota 28-8 to reach 95 wins, the total wins I see the White Sox getting. -
And by the by...whether you bounced the ball to 2nd on the warmup toss or not, I would have stolen on yer ass. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) touche
-
Yes, but this is different...this is affecting my own play. When people get superstitous over the things they do affecting someone elses play, that's a Cub tradition. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) See, I guess there is a little Cub fan in all of us
-
As much fun as it is to drink beer with Matt Smith, I'd rather drink with Jr. Griffey.
-
I'm guilty of this, too...when running off the field, I will NOT step on the foul line, and if I strike out, I will not use the same bat the next at bat even if struck out looking. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) When I was catching, if the last out was a strike out, I would always toss the ball to the other side of the mound from the opposing team's dugout. After warmups, I would always one hop the ball into second, daring the other team to try and run on me.
-
Things like this are for Cub fans. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) I just realized the team's slump cold be traced to the broom smiley? Perhaps we need to put that one away for a while? Baseball always seemed to be the one sport where superstitions are rampant. Don't mention a no-no, don't step on the foul line, rally caps, etc. Any other baseball superstitions y'all like?

Oh thank God we are getting Pods back...

Flashback to early 05', when we were first coming back together for another season... Soxfest was great...and the feeling there set the tone for the season... Little known to us, at the time, that this season would be memorable...and it's not even over yet. I remember making this quick little graphic early on, commerating AJ's attitude, and the fact you didn't give him one of those fake "let's paint a white sox uniform on this player" uniforms... Going into this season, I thought we could contend with the AL Central...but I didn't expect this...even with our recent slump, this team has already exceeded my expectations of the year...and hopefully it doesn't end anytime soon. Here is another flashback from earlier this year, when I found The Cheat somewhere beneath a mango tree:
-
I don't think there is much of an alternative, honestly, but hell, does it matter who starts?! I don't think any of our minor league pitchers could do much worse than Bmac has done in the majors...what's his ERA up top, like 8?! Arnie Munoz and Felix Diaz can put up numbers like that, too. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 05:27 AM) So, who else would you prefer to see start that game?
-
If Bmac is using his changeup and throwing it for strikes, he's dangerous...if not, he's too predictable with his fastball, which loses it's effectiveness. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 05:15 AM) Somebody has to start that game, and Brandon is our best option. From what I've been hearing about the way he's been pitching lately, I'll gladly take my chances with BMac over any other option we have.
-
The Indians starters are way inconsistant. Their bullpen is what holds this team together, they simply aren't ready quite yet, but they are well on their way to some upcoming dominating seasons...which, won't matter as long as we spend some of the money -- as Reinsdorf said, if we show up, he will spend money. Well...we have.
-
Bmac vs Texas?! Is it just me, or does that sound like extra batting practice for the Texas mashers?! If I were Ozzie, I'd start Bmac under one single condition, show me you can throw your change for strikes like in spring training, and you can start...otherwise he will get shelled, especially by the Rangers.

You blamed our losing streak on a website banner? Wow...did I accidently stumble onto a Cubs board?!
