All of you stop your crying. The point of going to games is to have a good time. Personally, I do not like the wave, nor do I partake in them...however, if the other fans are having a good time, that's a good thing...they will go home and spread the word how lively and fun the park is, and bring more friends the next time...which = more money for our team. So...in saying that,

No, I do not believe it is even close to true that we are only 1 game above 500 against +500 teams. Matter of fact, it's a total lie, and yes, many teams we've played WERE +500 until they played us, multiple times. These stats are meaningless anyway, fact is, they are ALL major league teams. The Yankees are in first place again...note this is the same team that was swept by the Royals. So...so much for that. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Yeah, I heard most of the commentary too. I tuned in at the point he was apparently trying to refute a Sox fan's charge he has an east coast bias. To paraphrase him, he said The Angels have had lots of coverage too, so he said perhaps it could be called "both coasts" bias but that was reasonable since the "group" from the midwest (i.e. the central) hasn't really done anything in recent times. Then he threw out a stat that really is worth looking at. He said that against .500-plus teams, the sox were only something like 29-28, which is reason to be skeptical of their playoff chances. This point is worth discussion for various reasons: (1) is it even true, (2) are some of the losing teams under .500 because the Sox beat them (3) are the Yanks & Angels records against winning teams any better. Discuss... SFF

Iguchi didn't even know Shingo until this year...they played in the same league, but didn't know each other...so of course it won't affect him. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) iguchi doesnt look effected by the shingo thing cuz he sure was smiling at the end of the game.

You aren't kidding...Frank hasn't looked very good as of late...but give him time, it's Frank Thomas...his swing will return. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) :puke Frank's swing lately.

El Duque is better than I've ever seen him in Sox uniform...he's even hitting 90-91 with his fastball from time to time...I've never seen him over 88 this year...

I listened to that show...the guy came off as an arrogant, ignorant, uninformed fan-boy, WORSE than Marrioti...which I didn't know was possible until today. He made a total ass of himself multiple times and showed a total lack of baseball knowledge when it came to "lineups". A lot of teams have fantastic lineups...the Rangers come to mind, the O's...the White Sox of years past...and a lot of good it does these teams when they run into real pitching. Total moron. Ignore him, he will go away...it's why he's a substitute and not a real radio personality.

I agree. I was a huge backer of Shingo, but those days are over...the MLB has caught up with him and he's noting more than batting practice now. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) I'm not saying that he is an upgrade over Shingo, but how do you know he isn't? We've only seen him twice. This move makes sense if only for the fact that we'll have more chances to see what Jenks can do. We know what Shingo can do...and it ain't workin.

I don't dislike Paulie at all...I love having him here, however there are times he says things that just make me go : ?! Maybe it's just me, but when your current SS is struggling, you don't go and say "Royce Clayton is the best SS I've ever played with", even if it IS true...it was the last thing Uribe needed to hear from his so called team "leader". Leaders are supposed to elevate guys on their team who are struggling, even if only mentally...and comments like that did not help! Same goes for his comments on Maggs...yes, Konerko may feel Maggs was the best hes ever played with...but what does Dye think about that?! Wow...am I chopped liver here?! It goes without saying, but if I'm at work and my boss says to me, wow...the guy who was here before you was just soooooooooooooo much better than you, how the F!@# does that make me feel?! Wake up...these comments may seem innocent because he's telling the truth, but they aren't confidence inspiring to his current team. That is not what leaders do. Ever. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) After thinking about it, this whole damn thread is stupid. There is nothing wrong with what Konerko said, and if you think there is then you're just looking for something to complain about because you dislike Paul. Ridiculous. I'm out of here.
-
You don't have too, I'll rip Paul. I'm sick of hearing him dog this team in very subtle ways. This is the best team he's ever been on...he should be saying that, not "Maggs/Royce, et al are the best he's ever played with"...obviously they aren't, idiot...or we wouldn't have lost to the Twins every year. This is coming off to me as nothing other than him setting up "outs" in case he hits the FA market...he's just trying to get friends on different teams that can talk him up to management...and that's ALL this sounds like to me. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:02 AM) Where am I ripping Paul...?
-
You do realize there are times to tell the truth and times to just shut your mouth, right? If your boss is an asshole, and someone asks what you think of your boss (who writes up company newsletters), are you going to say, "I think my boss is an asshole", because you always tell the truth?! Konerko has said some very questionable things, whether he believes them or not, this season. This team is playing as a TEAM...Konerko boarderlines on f***ing that up everytime he speaks. Examples: Royce Clayton is the best I've played with. Translation, Uribe sucks. (At least Uribe may think that after hearing such garbage) Maggs is the greatest player I've ever planed with. Translation, hell...I don't even know, idiot Paul, your on the best team you EVER been on, without Maggs...so don't go short-selling the guys your playing with now...how about that, truth telling f***er?! I can go on and on...bottom line is, just because you tell the truth doesn't make it good "leadership" decision. And I thought Valentine was always the best player in the locker room...I guarantee Paul (I change my mind on whos the best every week) Konerko has said that before. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) If by biggest mouth you means he tells the truth whenever he is asked, I guess you could say he has a big mouth. He doesn't care. Neither do his teammates or we would have heard something about it by now. And, obviously, it doesn't affect anybody's play on the team. Just worries a bunch of fans on the message boards.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
Y2HH replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rowand needs to fix his swing a little...his power numbers are WAY down, and I think it has something to do with his new 75% swing, he never seems to follow through and uses the old 1983 "official" White Sox one handed swing. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) Rowand is here and will be here in the future. He fits our team perfectly. One that specializes on defense and speed. He is a tremendous CF with terrific range and he sacrifices himself on whatever situation calls him to. He was on a slow start the first half but even with that he is htting .286, 36 RBI, and 5 HR. He has also added 12 SB. In the last five games he is 10-for-21 (.476). I expect a solid second half from rowand. -
I'm beginning to agree. Konerko has said some very contradictary stuff this year...he seems to be the only member of this team that isn't on the same page as everyone else. And no, I'm not going to go back and cite the many times this year he's said things that would make the entire team shake their head and wonder why. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) I thought Royce was the best player he's ever played with...? I wish Paul would get a toothache and his mouth would swell shut.

If Ozzie did use him a lot, we'd call for Ozzie's head. Shinjo just doesn't have "IT" this season...and even if he's pitching exactly the same, the league has caught up with him. It's evident by the fact that when he's hit, he's hit HARD...I've never seen a pitching give up so many homers. A change of leagues would do Shinjo a world of wonder, but again, that's probably just another one year fix until the NL realizes that you just have to sit back and wait for that one pitch to hammer. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) A Shingo deal makes sense sadly. Ozzie refuses to use the guy for long periods of time, and he is essentially a waste of a roster spot right now. We might as well get something for him. I am holding out hope for somekind of a deal to get Alex Cintron, but I doubt that will happen.

I loved Shingo in 2004...but I think, unfortunatly, the MLB has caught up with his deception of very slow pitches... :/

We'll see how good Cotts really is when he has to pitch to Big Pappi this weekend. In all seriousness though, sometimes people lose patience with players not living up to their potential...and you cannot blame them, that's part of being a fan. There is nothing worse than having to live through years of a player not living up to their potential, while having to shell out big bucks because of said potential. Ahem...Joe Borchard. Biggest. Waste. Of. Money. EVER. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) A couple of days ago I went back and found all of the Neal Cotts sucks threads and those were a great laugh. It is funny how many people want to hate a guy after such a short amount of time. Even funnier than that are the players like Cotts and Garland who guys gave up on and wanted traded are carrying this team in 2005. When you look at some of the other players in their same positions right now, you know you just have to be patient with guys like Bajenaru and McCarthy and give them a REAL chance to learn the major leagues and contribute.
-
Why would you think that?! It's common knowledge around here, the Cheat loves Joe Borchard! QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) I expected that to be an article on Joe Borchard..

If the Tigers somehow sign Konerko, they'll end up getting into a bidding war with themselves and Konerko will end up with a 57 year deal @ 12.572M per year + incentives. The Tigers are well on the way to becoming the Mets of the AL, probably the stupidest upper management that has no idea how to spend money or when to spend it. As much as I like Konerko, he's not the answer at 1B for the future, he obviously has a hole in his zone, he seems to chase the outside slider no matter how far off the plate it is. Yes, he hits a lot of home runs...but he's not worth 8M+ per season.

Speed has nothing to do with reading a ball off a bat. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) I'm glad that Rowand, like the rest of us, figured out that Pods is an awful fielder. I guess it shows they know a lot about each other. I don't blame Pods for losing the ball in the lights, it happens. The guy just does stuff like this all the time. I can't understand how a guy with his speed can just be so bad out there. Anyway, great play by Aaron.
